[Q]Froyo Keyboard on Gingerbread[Q] - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am not too keen on the Gingerbread Keyboard on Oxygen, and I was wondering is it possible to put the Froyo 2.2 keyboard onto Gingerbread, I don't mean the HTC IME, but the keyboard found on ROM's such as OpenDesire. All help is greatly appreciated.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

I may not have the best idea on this, but have you tried ripping the keyboard from the ROM of your choice and pushing it into your current ROM instead?

I'm not dumb, I'm just a noob... How do you rip and push? If I was ripping - It would be from OpenDesire ROM.

Well, download the OpenDesire rom, extract it, then grab the keyboard files from it, then use adb to push that file into your current ROM - that should do the trick.
I'm not too clear on the technicalities on ADB pushing (I haven't do it a lot, and even when I did, I *may* have messed things up), but you should be able to find some guides.

Old School Software Tweaks

Hi,
I have a TP2 on telus with the stock 6.1 ROM and TF3D 2.1.38. My home computer is an old mac, so I can't do the flashing thing.
I've been using mobile shell for ages to custimize things, but I am getting "Sense" envy and would like to see if there are any cool ways to customize TF3D without a custom rom.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
n
Not sure if you tried but you might be able to get an offical update from either ur provider or even the htc site itself
Well, you can flash your device via the SD-card method. You can even install Hard-SPL this way

Ok from what I have read you can flash the phone from SD but not hardspl.
Am I wrong? Any links would help.
Thanks again.

If you manage to get the latest official ROM with Sense 2.5 installed, download Cookies Home Tab and Cookies Home Tab Editor. It's glorious and I can't live without it. It has a few different clock styles, three different lock screens, you can tweak Call History, Calendar view, move around the different objects (links, clock++) and much more. <3
Yeah I know... I've been watching all of the new sense 2.5 stuff come out and I have been cursing telus for not updating the damn ROM to 6.5!
I'll keep looking for a way to hardspl my phone. Worse comes to worse I will have to use a friends computer to do it.
Hardspl cannot be flashed true SDcard. It needs a computer and a internet connection.

[Q] Search For Easy way to Root HTC Desire with 2.2 Froyo (newest)

Hey guys,
i'm sorry i think you heard this like a thousand times but i'm really new in buisness and would like to root my htc desire (slcd)
i have the new froyo 2.2 firmware installed (with the new htc update) and i would like to root my phone.
I saw some projects on the internet like "universal root" or "unrevoked3" but universal root doesnt work for my desire and unrevoked3 is down.
So i wanted to ask if somebody could describe me the easiest way to root my phone without destroying it.
Im sorry i have to ask this but i never used an android before, i first had a htc touch diamond and then an iphone 2g so im only good at flashing windows mobile 6.5 oder jailbreaking
and another question is, can i keep the original rom from htc or do i have do flash one?
if i have to i would like the opendesire rom
i hope for a good respone and thanks
Wait for unrEVOked 3.2 to be properly released and then you can do it straight away
Why do you want/need to root though?
first i would like to install apps on my sd card because i hate the small memory size... had an iphone before so...
second i would like to connect a bluetooth keyboard, but this is not very import because ive installed swype now (maybe i try to connect wii remote, too)
and then i would like to be able to jailbreak a ps3
are there other nice features for rooted phones?

Jailbreaking a PS3 isn't an easy talk, as it requires some recovery magic. App2SD (you get it, right?) is there in pretty much most of the roms, so that shouldn't be a problem. And I hardly wonder if Android supports bluetooth HID at all
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i think jailbreaking a ps3 is no problem as long as you have the right firmware
i saw my friend doing it with the TI 84+ Calculator that we use for school
and bluetooth HID is normally supported by android. Just HTC sense UI roms and some samsung phones had problems with it so there is no problem as long as you have it not installed on your phone.
You cant stop sense and try then you have to flash another rom to be able to connect for example to a wii remote
cant post url's because im a newbie so the youtube video name is:

I asked this guy and he said he did not program anything he just uses the open desire rom
sooo... today i used unrevoked 3 to root my phone
then i wiped it and copied the custom rom's and the open desire rom's zipfolder to my SD (also wiped before doing that)
and i went into recovery mode and flashed opendesire rom to my phone
at first i thought it was broken because the android boot screen was in an endless loop at the startup, but after taking out battery and turning it on again everything worked fine.
Now i have a normal android rom without sense and i will try to get a wiimote and a bluetooth keyboard to work but we'll see
i have to say that i love my new rom, much more space and not this stupid friendstream etc. just the apps i need.
and i found another way to get every app 2 sd without rooting which is very easy when you follow the steps: threads name is
Moving ANY app to SD on FroYo (or how to Enable all grayed out 'Move to SD' buttons)'
Click to collapse
i tried this before rooting and i had no problems
the only thing you have to know is that when you connect you're phone in harddisk mode to your computer the apps that normally does not support saving to sd like swype, have to be reactivated: settings->keyborad etc -> swype activate -> and long hold on text space to switch to swype
i hope my experiences can help some people

[Q] Deleted sprint bloatware & now can't update phone... Please help

I deleted several sprint apps a few months ago when I temporarily rooted my EVO with z4 Root. I would now like to update the phone to 3.70. I have tried the OTA and the manual version but after extensive research, I realize that I can't update without these system apps (sprint tv, nascar, football, etc..)
Is there any way I can get these apps back on my phone?... or be able to update to 3.70 without them? I am not permanently rooted, still using z4 root.
Any advice at all, would be greatly appreciated...

Not sure about adding the bloat back but try flashing myns or mikfroyos roms. They r both based off of 3.7 base but without bloat and speed up. Mostly stock looking as well
Thanks for the reply.. I'm not sure I can use custom ROMs with a temporary root, is it possible? What I'm looking for in the new update is permanent SWYPE and the updated speed. This is my last attempt to try to fix the problem... If I don't find a solution, I will have to replace my EVO and pass this one on to my husband. This has been driving me crazy!

I don't know about the temp root but u can always try the full root.
You could permanently root, the ROMs mentioned before have the swype keyboard & are faster than stock.
Or you could download the apk files that you deleted. If you can't find them, you could pull them from a stock rooted ROM. Then, while temporarily rooted, move them to /system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r-- with Root Explorer or a free alternative. They'll be there when you reboot.

Thank you SO MUCH! That sounds perfect... I will try the apk files first, I'm curious to see if that will work. Thank you for the excellent detailed explanation, I actually understood everything and feel like it will be easy (I do have Root Explorer).
If that doesn't solve the problem then I will do a permanent root and use the above custom ROM. When I am finished, I will post my results.
Thanks again for all your help!

If adding the .apk's back doesn't work, and you don't want to root and run custom roms (which you definitely should ), you could always run an RUU. I believe you should be able to run the 3.70 RUU no problem, but if not, run the 3.30 RUU, and that will flash you to a completely stock, out of the box ROM. Then you should be able to run the OTA. To run the RUU, you just need to have HTC Sync installed on your computer, if you don't already. You plug your phone into computer via USB, and run the RUU from the computer. I believe you want to use the HTC Sync that came on your evo's SD card, if you still have it. I believe the most updated one on HTC's website causes issues with RUU. Anyways, good luck, and here's a link.

I would permanently root, you can always unroot later too. Use unrevoked 3.

You can get certain apps by sending a Text message to sprint.
Like, send a text to "7777" with the word "NASCAR" and it should send you a download. It may work for the rest of them too, not sure tho.
I would try a full root myself.. you won't be sorry.

Thank you VERY MUCH! I just can't express the relief I feel. I could not reinstall the sprint .apks. I spent 3 hours trying all different kinds of ways before I finally gave up and moved on to the RUU. If you had not suggested and explained this, I would still be totally stressed. This is my first time to ever post a problem on any forum, I usually just search and read. This was a great experience and everyone was so helpful!
I want to briefly post my steps just in case someone else has the same problem later.
Searched and downloaded Stock RUU 3.29 (this is what I was running prior to deleting apps) and HTC sync 2.0.4 (my understanding that this is the only sync that has the highest success rate with minimal errors)
Uninstalled the latest HTC sync from my computer and then installed the 2.0.4 version I just downloaded.
Made sure USB debugging was enabled on my phone, then connected to PC with USB cable.
Powered off the phone, then while holding the volume down button, I pressed the power button until the screen with the 3 android skateboarders appeared.
I then had the RUU file on my desktop (PC) ready to click. On the phone I scrolled with the volume button to fastboot, then pressed the power button to select. I then quickly double clicked the RUU file on my computer.
When the dialog box came up, I followed the instructions. At one point, it asked to update the rom version. I Selected update and continued until completion.
This worked perfect. My phone was wiped clean and back to the original stock ROM with all sprint bloatware. I then updated my phone to the latest update 3.70.
After this, I now feel comfortable doing a permanent root. That is my plan for tomorrow... I wont be deleting anymore bloatware, just freezing it.

Awesome! I'm glad I was able to help, and that you got your issue resolved. It's always good when your first experience posting in a forum is a positive one, and XDA has a wealth of info and great people around here. Good luck on rooting, I'm sure you'll have no trouble. Then you'll really get to see what your Evo can do!

Well I'm glad you got it working, but deleting the bloatware clears up space, and if you delete it from titanium backup, you should have no problems, just make sure to make a backup before you flash your first rom. And like K2buckley said, there's always good people lurking around.
If anything do NOT delete the sprint Apps just freeze them using TB... Read that on a newbs guide

hey guys, i really really need some help here please. i finally decided to root my phone, that went fine, then i decided to look for a kernel so i could overclock my desire z, i downloaded kernel manager, and installed Flippy125's 1.9ghz froyo kernel (which i didnt know was broken because it didnt say so on kernel manager)...after that kernel was installed, i now cant connect to wifi, cant get a mobile network signal, and cant connect to the pc at all (usb disk drive, usb debugging, internet pass through) i cant get any sort of internet what so ever to try going to kernel manager and getting a new one can you help me out at all on how to reset it to a factory kernel or anything that can atleast get my phone working again? thanks guys
Did you create a backup in recovery before you upgraded the kernel? If so wipe and the restore. If not try to find a stock rom and flash back to stock. Youll lose all your apps however.

Don't flash that kernel. ROMs have their built-in kernels that are already fast (1500Mz when the phone was originally rated 800Mz is impressive). Try different ROMs out.

[GUIDE][ROOT][CWM] ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD

I came upon this device on Christmas (a gift from my girlfriend to her father) and wanted to root it and also install clockworkmod recovery, so I could mess with it a bit without bricking it. Since I found a lack of tailored guides for it, I decided to write this one, although I really did no actual development whatsoever. Normally I would be posting this on general, but given the spirit of this forum, I guess I'll just leave it here. Also, keep in mind I don't have the device anymore and am writing this from memory. If I missed anything or you have any doubts, please let me know (for example, I can't recall specifically the drivers I installed to make it work properly).
Please, please read the whole guide before trying anything, and if you are a novice user, just leave this be, I don't want you to turn your tablet into a paperweight because of my shoddy instructions written from memory and you probably don't need any of this anyway as there are no custom roms yet.
!!!DISCLAIMER!!!: As stated above, anything you do is at your own risk. I provided the procedures that worked for me on a Qilive 97r tablet, which is an Auchan branded ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD, so my step by step should work for all of you. There are probably easier ways to do this, and I hint at them in the guide, but beware I have not tried them and cannot vouch for them. In fact, I cannot and will not take any responsability if you brick your device following these instructions, correctly or otherwise. You do this at YOUR OWN RISK. You have been warned!
Rooting:
I followed this guide on Windows 7 x64 and it worked perfectly.
So thanks to dhigby for that. I would just like to make a couple of remarks:
When you get to step 7 (Installing Superuser by ChainDD), don't. Install SuperSU by Chainfire instead, Use it to update the superuser binary (I think a prompt shows up) and when asked, let it delete the "other" superuser applications, that is, the chinese one. Clean and easy, you don't need to follow any more steps.
Congratulations, you now have (english language) root!
Clockworkmod Recovery:
There is no specific recovery for this device. Fortunately, thanks to AndroTab.info, there's a generic version for 3188 devices that you'll see should work quite nicely, albeight with some caveats.
What works:
Nandroid backup to/from external SDCard (won't recognize internal)
Installing zip files should also work, although I didn't try it at the time, as the device wasn't mine and I can't since I don't have it anymore, but since it mounts system partitions perfectly well I wouldn't think there would be a problem. Try it at your own risk though.
Other things probably work, give it a try.
What doesn't work:
Internal SDCard access
Probably other things
Installation:
Now that you have a rooted tablet, installing clockworkmod recovery is easy-peasy. Go to developer options and enable USB Debugging, then make sure you have a working adb daemon (look it up) that recognizes your tablet.
NOTE: I'm not sure if I had to install any specific drivers for this to work, I think if so they were installed while rooting by the chinese app. Anyhow, here's the Rockchip drivers, you might want to try to install them if you can't get a connection: http://www.rockchip.nl/downloads/
Download the file RK30GENERIC_CWM.zip from here - that's the recovery.
Now extract flash_image and recovery.img from the downloaded file above to the folder where you have your adb and follow the following commands.
Push the files to /dev partition on the device:
Code:
adb push flash_image /dev/
adb push recovery.img /dev/
Then enter root shell, like so:
Code:
adb shell
su
Now flash recovery.img into recovery partition with flash_image:
Code:
chmod 755 /dev/flash_image
/dev/flash_image recovery /dev/recovery.img
Now power off your device. To enter recovery press volume down then the power button and keep them pressed until CWM boots. Voilá!
NOTE: The instructions above were adapted from here and all credit goes to AndroTab.info ; I posted these particular instructions because they are the ones I used and worked for me; there are other methods listed on that page which might or might not work, TRY THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Backing up your original recovery (for warranty, if anything goes wrong, etc.)
To obtain a backup image of your recovery \ restore it back afterwards, follow this guide here. All credit goes to Originalas.
Don't follow it to the letter though: first and foremost, you need a working linux installation. If you don't have one, I recommend Wubi.
Then:
Follow step 1;
Ignore step 2 (it's outdated);
Follow 3;
Follow 4 - but don't expect the screen to turn on, it won't, just hold the volume down button for 10 seconds or so after plugging it in, don't press the power button!
Ignore 5, 6 and 7
Follow 8, but don't use the last command to flash the CWM recovery onto the device. This is because since it is a generic version, it relies on the original recovery kernel. Flashing the image like stated in step 8 would probably overwrite the kernel and result in no recovery at all (I might be wrong about this).
Do follow the last command to restore your own backup if you ever need to.
I am unsure if recovery dumps obtained in this way are device specific; I don't see a reason why they should be, so I'll provide you with my own backup:
ORIGINAL RECOVERY
Flash through any method of your choice, but keep in mind I haven't tried this on other devices, so, as you know by now DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Closing remarks:
There you have it. Sorry for not holding your hand through every step, but this is meant for people who know a bit of what they're doing, making it faster than having to look up and figure out all these things and quirks on their own. If you have any doubts don't hesitate to ask, but keep in mind I don't have the device anymore and don't know much more than what I have written here. I do appreciate feedback and corrections, and will gladly change the guide giving you full credit - if it's really urgent just PM me, I might not check this thread often.
Cheers!

I wouldn't keep my hopes up on custom roms. The software is really bad and what it does with the hardware is terrible. It's like a bunch of chipmunks put the code together by randomly typing into a keyboard.
That said, the likelihood of a new kernel to fix that is next to nil. However, since the ROM is as far as I can tell pretty near stock, you can get a pretty good experience from the device by installing gravity box xposed module. I also recommend trickstermod and changing the governor to performance, as well as some kernel tweaking if you know what you are doing.
Also, very important, limit the amount of processes running in the background to 3 in dev settings or change the used memory limit to something like 1.2 gb. It has 2 gb of RAM, but, as I said, the ROM sucks, the system eats away a full gigabyte, and it doesn't effectively kill background apps, leaving you with a sluggish device if you multitask.
Anyway, those are just some ideas, if you have some more or would like to code for this device, feel free to share Also, as I always say, give it time. You never know who is gonna get they're hands on the device and do something amazing with it.

yes i saw that it's almost stock but crappy optimized...in the very first start of the tablet i had 1.8gb occupied by nothing and clean master always notifies me that 90% of the ram is busy...meh
maybe just a kernel will fix like you say but you know, android 4.4 will be a must (rockchip already released sdk for 3188). I am not a coder (totally zero) but i will try your suggestion...just a question about the performance governor, does it drain more battery?
i am trying to backup my rom but cwm is so buggy...first was impossible, now i'm stuck on backing up boot image
there is a twrp available for this tablet?
solved

Could we change your Omni stock ROM by mine?
I have tried ROM Archos 97b Platinum but touch screen is not working. The only possibiliti to work is by a USB Mouse.

If you are Portuguese, I would like to talk to you on Skype.
Can be?
