[Q]HTC Desire OpenDesire Memory Issue[Q] - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There XDA,
I'm not really into Gingerbread, I know it's new and everything, but it's not for me, however I really really like and enjoy using Froyo 2.2.
So the other day I downloaded OpenDesire (the Latest Build) and I noticed something very worrying, despite the fact nothing had been installed my phone was only showing 108MB of Internal Memory remaining.
After installing all of the GApps, this was reduced to around 68MB which seems quite a lot of Memory to be took up by such small applications? Then after insalling everything I normally use, and then moving everything possible except Facebook to the SDCard, I get about 11MB of space remaining, i've tried clearing caches and everything, I even installed a different ROM.
I installed DeFrost the latest edition, and the problem is exactly the same, even starting off with 108 however DeFrost also tells you the total space and that says 148, so after installing why don't I have this much?
Would appreciate any help, thanks.

I don't know, I have always wondered this. It might be the same thing as actual storage where when you buy say a hard drive, it might say 500GB but you only get like 487GB or what ever it is. That is down to the conversion between binary and decimal but that is another story. If you have tried wiping and stuff then I can only say I don't know. You could shift supported apps to your SD card or use A2SD script or something.

Apps2sd problem

I have had the latest MoDaCo rom running on my T-Mobile G2 touch a day after I recieved it and have to say that it out performs the stock rom by far. I have noticed a problem in the last 2 days or so which prompted me to do a clean install today but unfortunately did not resolve the problem.
I originally installed the MoDaCo rom using the guide over at the unlockr which was very simple and effective. I also decided that I would try and use apps2sd to help remove installed packages off my phone and store them on my 8GB SD. I had partitioned my sd card as the guide here suggests, I followed the code correctly by basically using copy and paste function in cmd so as to not make any mistakes and made note to update the ext2 to ext3 only as I read that the ext4 has issues with this particular rom.
I presumed everything was fine until today I noticed that when I install an app from the market store it seems to still be storing all the applications on the phone memory, I noticed the phone memory was reducing on every installation wheras the sdcard memory is untouched. Another thing I noticed is that in the sd card setting the sd card total space is being read as 7078MB wheras the partition was for a size of 7437MB. I have also accessed the data/apps folder on my phone through adb shell commands and low and behold all my apps are stored on there. There is also no folder on the sd card so there must be a problem.
I would be greatful if anyone could guide me as to any known issues with apps2sd on this particular rom or whether they can see where I might have done something incorrectly.
Many Thanks
With Aps2SD as I understand it, some parts of the programmes are still stored on the devices - system files etc. so The phone memory will change gradually.
Also, the browser and market caches still grow on the device, and need deleting via Application manager to keep the device memory as free as possible. (With Browser, clear cache, but not data as this clears your cookies and bookmarks )
Also, the apps from aps 2 SD are of course stored on the Ext3 partition. It doesn't get read at all as the SD Card in the device, as the device only sees FAT32 as SDCard space, so new apps loaded don't make a dint in the SD Memory seen on the device, or even in your PC, as this does the same thing, it doesn't see the Ext3 partition.
In My case, prior to installing MCR rom, I had around 50 apps on my device and my phone memory was reading around 70MB
After a wipe and installing MCR2.0 before loading any APPS - I was at around 155MB
After reinstalling ALL my 50 apps plus a fair few more - so around 60 apps(including some bulky apps like CoPilot - which I know stores around 8mb of its total of 15mb on the device itself to run smoothly and Docs To Go) I'm at around 120MB
So my advice is - Check your Browser and market caches. If your device has 50 or 60 apps on taking up around 30mb, then the bulk of those apps are being stored on your Ext 3 partition and its likely all running as it should.
If you have 50 or 60 apps and they are taking up closer to 80/90mb of your device storage, then aps2 SD might not have worked. - check on the thread for ROM that you have installed for advice on how to solve it.
Hope that helps
Dayz xx

[Q] Problem with Rom Manager (Rom Download Error)

Hey Guys,
Sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm having an issue with Rom Manager. Doesn't seem to matter what I click on to try to download, I keep getting 'Rom Download Error'.
Is this a known issue and if so what is the usual fix?
Thanks so much. Great work, as always.
have you tried clearing the download cache?
Yes.
I actually found the problem after nothing would work anywhere. Couldn't get anything from Rom Manager or the Market. Turns out my SD card was maxed due to all the backups I had made (had no idea they were upwards of 300MB a piece!). Weird though, because I thought anything downloaded from Rom Manager or the Market went to the internal phone storage by default. There's still plenty of space there.
Anyhow, I just erased a couple of unneeded backups and freed up over half a gig on the SD card and all is well again. Guess I'll upgrade to a 16GB card when the cashflow permits. Or maybe I'll ask for it for my birthday, heh (less than a week away).

I'm having this same problem and I have a 32 GB sd card. What's the point of paying for the full version if it doesn't work.

is something failing?

I've got an issue i'm hoping you guys can help me with.
I've got a stock froyo 2.2 rooted device.
just recently i've been having issues with my apps.
I back up my SD often so i formatted it and reloaded the data.
This helped until the first reboot then i started having issues again.
The device would show internal apps only, sometimes taking up to ten minutes to load the storage apps.
In the market i cannot download/install apps, even the ones on internal
(sometimes taking several minutes to install)
I've attempted to unmount the SD card but it hangs.
t it hangs when i try to use apps2sd, using my phone as a disk drive, checking disk usuage on both internal and storage, etc.
But i have full access when i use file managers and also when i take the card out of my phone and plug it into my computer. I see everything and everything works.
i have also noticed that it reports the internal memory wrong, sometimes it'll be 50mb's sometimes 130 mb's. All within hours of not doing anything.
i made a nand backup so i'm doing that now, maybe i forgot to clear cache or something last time?
any ideas would surely help, in all honesty it sounds like my internal drive is failing and i hope thats not the case.
thank you

[Q] Low on space?

Hi there,
Phone storage at approx 36MB, all apps possible moved to SD card, available memory seems to fluctuate, seems as if something is eating it. Uninstalled many apps that were not possible to move to SD but problem returns. I remember having well over 100MB free space after flashing the phone with the UK generic rom, did not install much since, nothing that would explain this anyway. Ideas?
Thanks in advance
Edit: Found the problem, Sony's Data Monitor was the culprit, cleared over 70MB of data from there. Funny, was not even working properly...
good for you. my phone got bricked due to the same problem.
my phone suddenly said low on space even thought data monitor and etc2 was off. no other apps were installed. flashed several f/w's with wipe and still low on space. in the end my phone now would not boot at all.
only fastboot, flash mode and boots into se logo :\
try to link2sd

[Q] Serious Need of Assistance!

Hi people.
Ok, yesterday I flashed the Rom cm11s-oppo-find7a-v4 and everything seemed ok... I was just giving this ROM a quick test to see what it was like etc and was not planning on sticking with it and wanted to go back to Colour OS for the time being. So tonight I reverted back to OS 1.2 but noticed a couple of issues with regards to how much space was taken up on the internal storage (almost 5gb of the 9 available with no music/video etc on there) so couldn't understand what was taking up all the space. During the time of noticing this problem, I spotted the Gummy Rom was available so downloaded this and transferred it to the phone and tried to flash this. Here I encountered another issue of the phone not even seeing this file on the internal storage. Here is where I made my biggest (of many) mistakes. I then decided to do a complete wipe of everything so I could start fresh as I was starting to get a little panicked at the lack of progress. So to summarize:
I have a phone with no operating system
It has no external SD card installed
It appears to have formatted the internal storage as ext4fs (is this correct?)
It has TWRP running
Is there anything I can do to solve this? I would be eternally thankful to anyone who can help me.
Regards,
Lee.
Connect the phone to PC and use ADB to push a ROM install package to the phones internal memory. Then, flash the ROM from TWRP.
