[Q] Change Application List Background ? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As we know application list's background is a black screen .
I was browsing around the android developement and saw a ROM which provides different background from the black one.
I mean that - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971333
On the screenshots we can see that background in application list is like the wallpaper on the phone.
Thats exactly what I want .
So is there any app , which can provide this . Because I haven't rooted / flashed with any roms my stock DHD , and I don't want to
Thanks alot

You will need to edit settings.apk or maybe the framework ...

G mail appearance question

Hi guys. I was wondering if someone could answer this for me . The appearance of my Gmail app inbox has gone dark grey background with white txt and new mail comes in with a black background with white txt.
This is quite annoying as i don't remember changing any settings and i am finding it a bit off putting.
I can't for the life of me find how to change it back to the white background.
Can anybody point it out to me pls??

a dark-themed gmail app? I'd kill to have that...
Dunno how it happened. It was white till yesterday. I have the latest version installed but the icon is even slightly different to my friends ones. I've got a closed envelope with 'M 'Im the middle whereas my friends have a 'M ' popping up out of the envelope. Strange. . . .

are you sure it's the real gmail app? check the about section.
could you attach the apk?
Have you played with any THEMES for your phone? Usually, some themes are coming with few themed applications ...
The themed applications are getting installed at once with the phone theme, w/o any warning or info.
If you did install a phone theme, look inside the zip file (the theme itself) under system/app ... if you see a gmail.apk there, then you just found out how you've ended with a black gmail app.
P.S.: I'm also interested in getting your themed gmail. apk file

I've tried a few different themes the last few days to honest . Have them all on my sd card. Just checked and the only one with a Gmail.apk is gingermix. Maybe this is where it came from .
I've changed since though and wiped cache and dalvik first??
If you guys explain how i can attach the Gmail.apk then no prob. Can i do it on my SGS?

I've ran some tests based on your input and YES, the gingermix theme is the culprit here ...
Please find attached the gingermix themed gmail apk and also the stock gmail. Both packages are installable via CWM.
I personally like more the gingermix themed one ... thanks for bringing this issue up
Its funny actually. Now that I've copped it i see bits of various themes all over my phone. . Lol.
I have generation x blue theme installed right now but also see these :
Gmail.apk from gingermix v4
Dialer, phone.apk and message icon from jumba 2.5
He he he he

@ro_explorer. . Thanks for that.
A little off topic but if i was to revert back to stock theme can i flash a notification bar from one theme and a separate battery, icon set from another??

I've uploaded again the zips with the gmail.apk only .. it was something wrong with the update scripts earlier (I've edited the scripts with wordpad so it got screwed up).
If you like to play with the themes, you will have to use a deodexed rom in the forst place, then you can play with various png files inside the framework-res.apk file under /system/framework dorectory (this is quite dangerous if you're not really sure what you are doing IMO).
Personally I'm using the Generation X V2.0B with some elements from generationX V1.14 (wifi icons to be more exact), some personal touch-ups in the buttons for the AOSP unlock screen and puzzle unlock, modified taskbar ... and some various themed applications that are going really well with this theme
If anyone is interested I can share it. I'm not taking credit for anything .. these are just things found here, on this very forum
I would like that alright. Is that the standard looking wifi icon as opposed to the battle axe looking one in v2?
Im using gen x v2 hard blue but finding some txt hard to read Im the menus.

I've just turned off my computer. I'll upload the files tomorrow morning.
The wifi icon is the one used in v1.14 (the axe looking one).

Cool thanks. What's the difference between the two wifi icons in v 1.14 and v 2.0?

Cool. That looks great man. Much prefer that wifi icon to the newer one. I was gonna have a go off customising a theme for myself this weekend but I might hold off and enjoy yours now for a while. ;-)
Thanks
PS...I'm actually starting to like the themed gmail app!!

Quick Question on App List CM7

Hello,
I recently rooted my Wildfire and flashed the CM7.03 ROM (the Gingerbread 2.3.3 one).
The background of the App List is transparrent, is there anyway to make it black or is this a feature of Gingerbread 2.3.3?
Also, does anyone know of any nice (LDPI) themes for CM7 that suit the Wildfire?
Thanks!
Chris
EDIT: Sorry guys, I solved it by using Launcher Pro instead.
Regarding themes you can also use mdpi ones. Actually they will be made supporting ldpi and mdpi as well AFAIK.
but when applying a theme you may get a warning like "theme is missing asserts . apply anyway or not". You can select apply anyway here. You won't see any huge differences on doing that.

The solution for your App Drawer issue is to Press Menu Key > ADW Settings > Drawer Settings > Background Colour. Select Black (##000000), and make Alpha Zero. (Just stating, even though you solved it)
As for themes, there are many that suit the Wildfire. MDPI Themes look equally, and, some HDPI Themes work fine as well,. A complete list can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056292
Personal favorites for me at the moment include:
- XperiaArc (Buttons are broken though, sadly)
- NTSense
- Wizmod
- Honeycomb (haxzamatic)
- Steel Blue
EDIT: Ninja'ed. Oh well

[Q] what is framework-res.apk ?

if i replace framework-res.apk (from another rom); is it chages performance or tweaks?? i hope just changes appearance..
That's the framework of the phone, it includes the appearance, the animation, and everything related to that..
Example: if your framework has the background of the phone set to black, apps like titaniumbackup will have black background.. If you change it to white, background in apps like titanium will change to white..
Changing it incorrectly can cause loop of reboots and your phone will never start till you flash a new ROM..
Changing it correctly can help in performance but you need a high developing knowledge to know how to edit the codes and stuff.. ..
I hope what I said somehow helped you to take an idea .. I don't recommend playing with that apk if you don't have the enough knowledge for it..

Question about Status Bar Icons

I have been searching and haven't been able to find what Im trying to achieve . On my M8 I like running the Sense 6 software but usually theme my phone to look similar to stock android . Usually using nova with stock app icons , Google Keyboard etc etc . The only part I am unable to find a theme for in particular is the status bar icons . I like the stock signal bars and vertical battery of AOSP but havent been able to find a theme for these items in particular . Im running 4.4.4 dev edition software and my photo shop skills arent top shelf material . Can someone point me in the direction for a theme or even give me a hand on just the pngs themselves ? I can throw together a zip file and do that part myself . Any help would be appreciated .
I'm not 100% but I think xposed has a mod that puts those original aosp icons back
Yeah I found a thread regarding that mod , but saw some folks having issues with it . Some had issues with settings and various parts of their phone not working right .
