I just installed it and its flying for me. I'm not the biggest fan of WP7 Metro UI, but the animations are cool. Guess its something to make my Desire feel a little different when I get tired of sense ui widgets.
by the way, my desire is stock.
Works fine for me too, but is there a way to make the app drawer a grid instead of a list?

Yes i do... when i get a message i wanna read it not stare at an overly long animation to get there. It looks cool and seems nice and smooth but utterly annoying.

The lag is more of a transition from the home screen to the app. Lag is a bad term I think. The app moves smoothly. All the animations are just too slow and long by nature.

I would hazard a guess that fancy UI fanciness is how Microsoft distracts users while something loads up. I think it's effective for less tech-savvy people, but those who frequent these kinds of forums have no patience for UI fanciness when all we want is to "get to the freaking app already"
looks decent. will try it out for a while.

I know many don't like HTC's Sense. Personally I like it fine, with the huge exception that I can't use my phone in landscape half the time. I don't suppose it would be possible to enable landscape would there?

yeah the home screen for sure, but since contacts, calendar, music, etc... are all modified by sense then none of them can go landscape either.
This is the number 1 reason why I don't use sense/Rosie. Its utterly ridiculous that sense doesnt do landscape.

The sad part is all the images are there (in the framework) for Rosie to go into landscape, they just don't let it. I've seen a mod done that accomplishes this but it looked terrible and would have taken a lot of work to get all the elements to look right. Maybe they gave up and decided to focus on a more important project.. like Sprint Nascar.. or the Sprint Promotion app..
Rosie has such potential but is such a let-down. If they weren't going to go the extra mile and make Sense own everything else then they shouldn't have wasted their time on such a crippled UI.
Sense for Windows mobile does landscape. Why not the Android version HTC? Thats one of the reasons I use adw

I completely agree. Its like they got to a point that they were happy and just gave up. The fact that landscape wasn't a high prirority is either lazy or dumb or both. This is basic functionality. As soon as I found adw way back when, Rosie has never touched my phone.
Yeah it does seem pretty dumb. Well I wonder if when the G2 comes out with an actual keyboard it'll mean that we finally have a landscape Rosie...

I had a feeling that the Rom wasnt gonna work. Everyone who flashed had the same problems I did 2 weeks ago. So far ive gotten a clean install with no errors but not boot. Which means kernel swaps from miui ports won't work. you have to build one.
I am the only one I believe who is actually working on this port. I won't release anything that won't boot, I've made lots of ports with 4 different kernels and they all do the same, which is not booting.
Currently learning to build g2 kernel from source so I can get port goin. If u guys wanna follow me hit me up @brownboyrx.

Miui is a ROM built by a group of dedicated Chinese Android developers and was intended to be used in China to show off the Android platform. It was accidently discovered by a user over at the N1 forum some months ago and news of the discovery spreaded like wildfire overnight within the Android community. Since then Miui has been enjoyed and ported to a number of popular Android devices. Miui was ahead of it's time in terms of features, look and funtionality, it was repsonsible for the working of the radio on both the N1 and Desire running stock based vanilla ROM's. It has the best bits of Android and iphone and offers a very unique user experience, on a personal level the UI is intuiative yet beautiful. If you can get past the iphony look then am sure you'll enjoy this ROM if not then using a 3rd party launcher will get rid of most of the iphone look. The ROM is quick and stable and is updated every Friday at 3pm China time.
Check it out on their official website and be sure to use google translate as it's in Chinese;
http://www.miui.com/index.php
English forum;
http://miui-dev.com/
That was a great synopsis above.
The key points of MIUI:
It is Faster
Universal Themes
I still love Cyanogen too. My nexus runs MIUI and G2 Cyan. Good mix.

I started porting today and it boots up. But if I start any app and want to go back to homescreen I get a flickering screen. I have to disable the screen and enable it again. Then it doesn't show the unlock screen, just the statusbar (without clock) and the wallpaper. But if I touch the screen on the unlock position it vibrates. But it doesn't unlock. For unlocking I have to open and close the keyboard. After that the statusbar disapears and doesn't show up anymore until I restart.
http://pastebin.com/cnVFF9WF
Guess the main problem is because of this
Code:
I/WindowManager( 1520): Out of memory for surface! Looking for leaks...
But I don't know what I can do to prevent this.
Kernel is the latest one from CyanogenMod. Many other things work like bluetooth, radio, camera, torch, wlan...
With LPP it works alot better but there are still many bugs like the unlock screen not showing up...
Well thanks very much.

Being able to put the Handcent widget on the lock screen is worth the price of the app alone. I'm not a fan of the popup.

thats the only solution....?
Widget Locker.
You can get a *Pirated* version to do some testing...
At first I didn't like it much & didn't think it justified the cost, but it's great to have all your Go To Apps right on the Lock Screen along with the customization...
Once you purchase the App you get a lot more options & a much stabler build... Highly recommended.
I guess I haven't figured it out. Ijust purchased widget Locker, and it's pretty cool, but I can't get it to overwrite my actual lock screen setup.
Right now I slide the unlock slider, and that takes me to the phone's unlock slider, to then enter pswrd. Any way to go from widgetlocker straight to pw?

well so far i dont see any other app that allows u to do what widget locker does. Wish their was a trial version of this aswell but i took the leap and bought it and i was not disappointed at all. Its not that buggy at all on the g2 as long as u dont lock it and unlock really fast... than the screen flashes with the lock but thats the only problem i have so far. I havnt even modded my widget locker till i looked into this post! and WOW i love it even more now. i dont remeber how much i paid for the app but.. worth it def.!

I installed Team Blaze's (Jared) newest ICS last night and was running Drew's prior to. I would say at this point they are almost the same... each one is making improvements... As for my experience... Jared's is solid and I haven't ran into anything broken. There are some things a little buggy (like TTS errors when opening Navigation, but TTS working just fine) but I haven't found anything broken. They are all working on making the camera better and it works on Jareds. These aren't final releases so I am good with what I have! Can't wait until these things get smoothed out as ICS is tight.
Jared The Great all the way baby.
ICS Question
I have been following these ROMS.
At least on the home screen they appear to be still pretty buggy.
I don't know if the MMS is working, the camera, all that stuff.
Just curious if someone can tell me what I need to expect after installing.
I am currently using Synergy non-god mode and hate it. It is SO LAGGY. It takes a good 15 seconds to get the icons to populate my home screen. I need a new rom and was wondering if these were worth switching too.
Thanks all.

He was asking about ICS not MIUI if I'm reading the first post correctly. MIUI fanboys are as bad as apple fanboys...
I'm running Deck's alpha 5 and it's really solid. Trebuchet is buggy but that's a known issue and the solution is to run Nova instead. It's definitely worth flashing an ICS ROM to get a feel for how they are.
james
I have run both Jared's and Drew's. Both solid build... both buggy as hell. They are still working on them. To be honest... the best one right now will probably be the one with the latest release.
Decks Alpha 5 for me with CoD tweaks. I haven't tried any of the other ones but this one is rock solid for me. There are quirks but any rom has those. Honestly I have better battery life on this then I ever have had before.

Gentlemen, best is predetermined to be biased upon your own preferences; there is no right answer here. Yes, ICS does have some nice features, like improved voice commands, better folder management, ect. And for MIUI yes it is a lil 'iphone' like in essence, but different from all the rest. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you change the launcher, you fix the 'no app drawer' issue, which some people tend not to like.

-lovely new camera app
Everything is just perfect. What do you guys think of 4.2?

I love it! It's really fast, smooth and stable. Not a single problem in now almost two days. I like new additions, I got used to them right away. But, I've mentioned this before, the new "recent apps" is bothering me. It's really, really bothering me. I like that I can use the recent apps button while in-app to close it, but it stops right there. It's buggy like hell and it makes me feel like I'm on a nightly ROM each time I close an app. And I preferred the transparent look from 4.1. I seriously hope they'll fix it soon. Argh.
But, nevertheless, I love 4.2 - it's amazing.

Well, everything is perfect expect 3 things.
1. lockscreen is a fail... o.o... after i slide to other widget page do something and come back to page where i can unlock my device i have to press a button to get the lockring? O.O also when i resize widgets i gets the lockring to another page and doesnt save the resize wtf really?
2. recent apps is cool, but its laggy. swiping apps is laggy, dont know why? hope we get the fix soon
3. power widgets at notifaction thing is not really widgets. example: if i press wifi toggle, it doesnt turn off or on wifi, it just takes you to wifi settings where you cant turn wifi on or off

of course they updated the kernel! look at the build date! and if nothing changed from the previous kernel, they could have used that one. they used a new one, and there are new changes. look at the 4.2 kernel source and you'll see
Not entirely they fubar'd the internal sdcard. Now everytime you flash a new ROM it will create a new partition in the /sdcard/ titled /0/ and you're f'd if you need a backup because thats in /sdcard/ while you're in /sdcard/0/0 :S

The more I look at it, the more I believe that is not 4.2's fault, but the recovery's fault. They need to be updated.

I think it's rom fault because of the introduction of profiles!

Doubt it. Especially since that feature isn't available for phones by default.

For myself I won't say never, but stock isn't a bad experience now ugly color is fixed, better signal for me, and quick settings aren't that bad like many people claim... ^_^ I'm happy with stock for the next time also the other features like the keyboard slide thing is nice, and let us not forget photo sphere ^^ all in Google did a big step forward, like they did with the first jelly bean version ^^

You seem to not understand. The WiFi just shows which WiFi you are connected to. Only actually toggles there are airplane mode, bluetooth and brightness.
And you also seem a bit confused to the lock screen as well. But I'll let you figure that out

Guys I see many of you have lags and bugs, i suggest to wipe everything before flashing, that's what I did and I have no lag or bugs in recent apps or elsewhere...and I'm usually very picky about lags and framerate drops...really 4.2 is as smooth or better than 4.1.2 here...gmail and recent apps are smoother than ever, facebook feed scrolling is finally totally smooth, and generally 4.2 feels fast and solid, I see some nice tweaked animations here and there...
That being said I expected much more from the google development team, sure WP8 lacks a solid ecosystem, but the os itself has some cool features that I'd like to see on android...like the all in one chat app, or the app-personalized lockscreen...our lockscreen widgets can't even compare to that...seems like android team is out of imagination and is just implementing small and not useful things here and there instead of pushing boundaries

So...basically you want them to push boundaries but manage to release a very stable and solid ROM, sometimes as soon as a few months after the last release (4.0>4.1>4.2 in less than a year)? I somehow have a feeling if they had revolutionized the OS but couldn't manage to smooth out a few bugs, you'd be on here hating them for not releasing a stable ROM. I think maybe you should start deving and realize the time and effort it takes to bring new features with true stability.

Don't you think it's slightly unfair to expect so much from a point release?

So after a couple of hours (20+ hours ) i have used stock 4.2 with root. No other modifications.
What I think:
-excellent speed, no lag or slowdowns
-excellent battery life with the new kernel
-the colors of the screen are much better!
-lovely new camera app
Everything is just perfect. What do you guys think of 4.2?
Post your opinion

I have noticed that my battery life has gone down, unplug the phone from charger, not using it, and withing 1-3 minutes, i am down to 99-98% battery
