Heya guys,
New on these forums but not new to flashing roms.
I followed the guides and flashed the Android Revolution HD ROM 2.1.
Everything went well and I just pressed reboot.
Now it has been like 10 minutes and im still stuck on the white background HTC (green letters) bootscreen. Is this always taking that long after flashing or should I try to remove and reinsert the battery?
Thanks in advance!
I think I read that some people may take 10+ minutes on the first boot, but usually it only takes me around 3-5 minutes.
But you sure it's not a bootloop?
Is your clockwork updated to 3.0.0.6? Take the battery out and try again.
I assume you flashed only the rom and no themes and also did a full wipe? If so adb logcat will help a lot in diagnosing your error.

Yes it was updated to 3.0.0.6.
I tried removing the battery, same thing so I flashed another rom.
Now works like a charm.

Yeah did a full wipe. I flashed the full rom package from ''Android Revolution HD 2.1'' so I don't know it had a theme or not. Afterwards I did another full wipe and flashed CoreDroid HD 3.1. This one works like a charm. It's super fast and it's also good looking!
Thanks for the help
Kernal
Donno if this topic is still relevent or not, but if you don't flash a kernal specific to the rom (sense) It won't boot.

Well Roms come with the kernels so that usually isn't the problem, and when you do use kernels that aren't intended you'd quickly be able to troubleshoot and the effects i imagine could differ. When I've use wrong kernals i've been able to boot but things just wouldn't work. i.e. on hardware buttons working, extreme sluggishness etc.

i have flashed redemptive rom on my phone, and i tried to flash many other roms over it a day after and they keep going into boot loop (i think because it just stays at the "htc incredible" screen). is their some trick to getting a new rom flashed over the stock rom? did i miss something on all the tutorials and XDA wikis? im stumped! any advice?
i have searched for the past day for the answer (kinda why i almost bricked my girlfriends captivate because it was doing the exact same thing) thats why i came here. this is my last resort
Did you do a full wipe between flashes? You really shouldn't have to do anything special. Ill help you get through it. Oh is your inc an amoled or slcd screen. If its slcd you need an slcd enabled kernel. Do you have adb installed? If so are thaere any errors.
It can take up to 15min for a first boot. Adb will show you if every thng is going smoothly
If it doesn't boot after flashing a rom through recovery it is most likely the rom not flashing right for some reason, most likely an improperly finished download. Try downloading it again. Happened to me before on ruby rom.

i have an slcd screen and im running kings kernel #5 on my stock install. maby i need to flash the kernel again before first boot just in case the new rom changes the kernel
i have adb on my computer but i dont know how to do anything but the classic "adb shell" to remove bloat-ware and "adb Push" from working on my girls captivate
whats weird is it has done it on both my incredible and her captivate, but then again, ive done the flashing on both.
do i need to restore to stock before i install another after market rom?
You most definatly will need to flash the kernel again. Every full rom flash will flash the kernel that comes with the rom.
No you will not need to return to stock. Just flash away just remember your kernel. Most roms for the inc have amoled as the default screen type in the rom kernel.

Hi,
I recently purchased the HTC Wildfire S from Virgin Mobile and would like to root it. After reading some great tutorials put out by you guys, I'm fairly confident I can successfully root my device. How ever I have a few concerns:
1. Is my device the HTC marvel, marvelc, or marvelct?
2. Are there custom ROMs for my device?
3. Can I remove the bloatware/re-partition the internal memory without a new ROM?
Thanks ahead of time to those that help, and sorry for taking up your time with n00bie questions
EDIT: Also do I need to do anything to my bootloader just to root? My understanding is that its only necessary for changing ROMs.
Marvelc or a510c, there are custom roms and modified roms and roms that are being built like cm7 for the marvelc, check out the development forum and see whats crackin
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Thanks I will take a look over there. When I started looking I saw a lot of people saying there are only ROMs for the marvel
No theres ssrom, simonstock rom that rom is sweet! Check it out
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Can I get links to these? I think I found the SSROM already but glanced over it. I will revisit that one. As of now SS may be the only ROM I have found for the marvelc.
Thanks again guys
Just wait a little bit, some are being built

I have the HTC Wildfire S from VM, rooted, CWM 5.0.2.6, S-off, and when i try to install any custom rom, it will install fine then ill boot it up and it will be at different points during the bootup process animation screen where it will freeze and restart over and over. Sometimes it will get to the lockscreen and freeze there. The only rom that hasnt done that so far is the CM7 alpha. I have tried to install: .sense, jmz, and team marvelUS rom for the marvelc, and still not able to do anything. Has anyone encountered this problem and fixed it, anyone can give me anything extra to try? i have wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache/dalvik, and battery stats, also tried not wiping any of those. The custom stock rom still works fine if i install it.

Did u make a partition before trying jmz and teammarvelusc? I haven't tried .sense yet but I know that at least on jmz u need at least a 512mb partition or u may encounter some problems. Also, what hboot do u have? U could also try formatting /boot to see if that helps. Could also be too high of a CPU oc. Cm7 alpha is set at 600mhz, jmz and teamusc have their kernels oc'd to 806 by default if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for your quick reply! I did try the partition of 512mb and just in case a swap of something too haha. My hboot version is 1.06. And on the processor speed that makes sense. Is there a way to change that in the rom before I load it or do I have to luckily catch my phone before it freezes?
There may be a flashable stock kernel out there for marvelc, if anyone would know it would be Simon or insink. There should be one around this forum somewhere I would think.
You could also try m1ndh4xr8's kernel, its oc by default but I've had good luck with it.

Well problem with jmz is that it keeps my phone on a reboot loop. And rom manager I tried but it never worked for me on any of my phones for installing roms haha but I did download the rom and installed on cwm.

No I couldn't find them from VM I found the stock rom on the forum I believe but don't remember where. I still got it do u need it? The rom has the stock kernel in it obviously lol

Ya i remember encountering that problem back when there wasn't really any support for marvelc. I attached the 2 kernels i have on my sdcard that i know for sure work completely with no errors. Copy them to your sdcard, then the first thing i would try is boot into cwm, wipe cache and dalvik cache. then flash the attached m2ndh4x8r kernel, as thats the one i currently use. See if that fixes your wifi problem. If it doesn't, then do the same for the attached jmz kernel. If neither of those are fixing the wifi issue, then u will need to install a different rom. When i first bought my phone and was on stock, the wifi didn't even work at all, till i rooted and went custom.

Hey,
As the title states, I was just curious on how to do this exactly. I couldn't find any threads based on Rom Cleaner other than the main one which I can't post in.
If I flash ARHD 9.7.2 using the method by C4Eva. Do I completely boot the phone up and set it up, then go back into recovery and install RC from the zip? Or do I just install ARHD then RC without booting and setting up ARHD?
Might sound normal to most people but I guess the basic order of it isn't too clear to me. Also, I can't link the video since I'm a newbie, it's in the ARHD initial post though.
it can be done both ways as i have done it both ways and never had any problems but its recommended to make a full boot before doing any thing like that
Thanks for the reply man! I appreciate it. I'll give it a run later on.
Full boot after installing a mod but rom cleaner removes loads of stuff so before boot i would of thought

Did the phone come with that ROM or did you flash it yourself? If you flashed it yourself, where did you get it?
I would say just full wipe (make sure you wipe system, data, and cache) and flash a new ROM, since you were planning to anyway. (Remember to back up your apps and settings with Titanium Backup or something similar if you want to save anything.) aospX in the Inspire 4G dev forums (which are compatible with Desire HDs) is a good stable ICS ROM. IceColdSandwich is a more customizable one from the DHD dev forums. If the new ROM still has problems then post again.
I had to get the mobo on my device changed for some reason and this new one had all of this already pre installed.
so i did a complete wipe using a script and after that installed blackout ics 4.0.4 with sense 3.6. it installed successfully and now The phone restarts after the boot is complete again and again, the same used to happen on the previous rom. I removed the simcard and it works just fine.

Which wipe script? This does matter; some scripts can reformat your partitions incorrectly.
EDIT: and just to clarify. This phone came to you with S-OFF and CM7.1. It had bootloops. You then flashed Blackout. Still bootloops. You then removed the SIM card. It now boots properly. Is that accurate?

What I would do is, try full wiping and flashing a stock ROM. Or you could try ARHD, which is close. If the issue is still present on stock, it could very well be a hardware issue.
Okay i can try that.. Quick question. after i do a full wipe how do i install a stock rom?

You can use SuperWipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040) or EXT4 wipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720) scripts.
I use ext4 wipe scripts to wipe my Ace.

What OP wrote applies to me as well. I am looking for something better than aerovan's CM9 (which has been my DD), and thought I would give Viper a try. Without fail, bootlooping (which I could have guessed since I did tacoroot and this seems to be an issue with sense based roms).
That said, I tried steps 1 through 4 and the bootlooping stopped in Viper - it goes through startup and just shuts down before leaving the boot screen. One strange thing that I noticed is that the ICS Firmware/radio with Viper (which I loaded in CWM), wouldn't load in 4ext. Maybe I'll give paranoid a go if I can't resolve this bootlooping issue in Viper! I hope OP has better luck.

I'm not as knowledgeable as Chilly, but a thought did occur to me. if the cm9 rom included a kernel on the flash and then you went to a sense based rom that didn't include a kernel that could cause a problem. I believe that I read that cm using a kernel that is asop based while sense roms use a different based kernel. You may check to see what kernel you have and then check for the recomended kernel for that rom and flash that kernel. don't forget to wipe.

All of the roms come with a kernel for our phone, but certainly, don't flash a sense kernel with aosp or vice versa after rom flash. Chilly is right. Flashing a newer radio should fix the problem and the radio is flashed with a PG32IMG.zip in the bootloader, not in the recovery.

Good call. When chilly said you don't flash kernels in recovery I hit my head. I flashed the radio, but now my challenge is getting back into recovery since I renamed the file and bootloader always finds it and wants to reboot or I load CM9 which stays on flash screen. I'll figure something out, maybe with adb. Thanks.
Power down, pop the sd out, boot to recovery, rename file, profit.

i made a stupid mistake of flashing radio in recovery, in fact the radio is for Samsung at&t and now my phone vibrates it doesnt show htc quietly brilliant, only vibrates and orange light with black screen untill i pull out the battery... i was able to return to stuck and it can only boot if its connected to power, it doesn't read sd card while android is booted and in recovery to, only in bootloader it reads sd... error in mounting if i try to... i flashed RUU.exe 2.3.3 and 2 other RUUs for my droid inc 2 but it keeps vibrating... please help me!!! thanks
I made the same mistake when i first gained s-off for my dinc2. the thing with the venom rom tho is if you ever want to go back to aosp ull need to gets chill's anti-venom zip and flash it through recovery because doing a normal wipe wont do the trick. also a helpful trick that worked for me with roms if i ever start getting boot loops i go into recovery from the bootloader menu and i wipe the dalvik cache under advanced and then wipe the chache under mounts and storage and it always works like a charm for me. but ive also learned that you have to be careful which kernel you flash with the rom of your choice because not only will it cause lags if you happen to get past the boot animation to the main screen but in some cases it can cause breaks in your framework like your wifi data etc. im not an expert tho those are just suggestions that im familiar with because theyve already happened to me before. hope this helps in any way.
