No matter what I change in the CM settings menu it won't show any of the different styles or show music player widget controls. Help?
No sliders or rotary screens? Try wiping / reflashing, redownload the ROM while you're at it. Should clear it right up.

You can't really do that, it'd restore system data as well. Use titanium backup or mybackup root from the market to back up your apps, and then restore when you reflash.

I'll have to check this one out, I wasn't a huge fan of Titanium's interface personally.
I actually had a bad experience with that app I linked. It backs up apps fine, but when I restored them after flashing something, half the apps just force closed. I had to restore the APK's without the data and re set everything up, pissed me off. It may not happen to you, just be warned.

I'm looking for the best possible solution to backup my apps and apps settings (Handcent Gmail, etc) so when I flash a new rom I'm able to open up the app thats already configured relativity head ache free.
Is this something apps 2 sd would do?
MYBACKUPPRO, TITANIUM BACKUP, ASTRO FILE MANAGER, etc etc - Just search the market for "backup" and google the diff apps to see the features of each.

dunno about mybackup pro but titanium backup donate has gotten me out of some stupid situations before. It does the apps / data / system data all seperate and lets you restore each or all at once...going to and from CM6 and keeping two roms updated to play around with has never been easier.
Titanium backup. Back up app+data.
If you are going to a new rom and not the same rom it is best to install the apps fresh and not install the apps using Titanium back up. The apps that are saved are saved with the first roms settings and sometimes just the littelest diffrence could cause all sorts of issues leading to FC's or something else.

Didn't know Ti had this issue but MyBackup Pro doesn't. I've flashed different roms to test (always gone back to Fresh because it's just my preferred) and MBPro has always restored apps+data with no issues. The newest version finally doesn't list SU, which always gave me errors back then until I figured not to restore it. Anyways, Ti and MBPro are both great options.
I came over from windows mobile and am some what of an android noob. After you flash a ROM is there anyway to restore apps so they dont lose data, I dont want to start over on amgry birds.

Using Clockwork Recovery (check development forums), and depending on the flashing instructions, I usually:
save the rom to Sdcard/
boot into clockwork
backup and restore > backup (makes a full backup)
Wipe Data, (clear cache if they tell you to),
apply zip (rom) from SD
then back to Backup and Restore > advanced > select your backup > restore Data only.
Then reboot, and you should be good to go with your saved Angry Birds game
Mybackup pro worked like a charm.

Mybackup works well but you on't want to backup and restore data if you frequently switch roms/kernels. So if it's just the apk you are trying to save then astro more than gets the job done.

Lol, that's what I get for not paying attention to the op.
Titanium Backup Pro will restore your backup with one click. It has saved countless hours from switching ROMS all the time. It is well worth it to get the paid app because you can let it start restoring and walk away. The free app requires you to click "Yes" to restore each app, one at a time.
I also use the back up and restore feature of LauncherPro so I don't have to keep redoing my home screen setups.
Once you have these two apps in play you don't have to be shy about trying as many different ROMs as possible.

I have my apps/icons on different pages and a certain way and my widgets a certain way. Is there a way when I Wipe all user data and when I restore all my apps with TB that all my apps and widgets are where they were before I wiped? Is there an app that Restores where they were?

The best option is MyBackUp. It costs a few bucks you can get a free trial to try out. It saves apps, app data and there's an option to restore home screens.
A nice alternative is Titanium BackUp which does essentially the same thing but requires some know-how. It is completely free (no trial version) though.

I forgot to ask does it back up my home screen when I check backup apps?
If you know how to make a nandroid backup from the recovery screen just restore data from the advanced restore option in recovery. All the apps settings and data look exactly the same.

I still use titanium just for extra security and if I run into a rom that doesn't allow me to restore data properly. But the option does work on most.

So I can back up all my apps with data with TB and do a android backup via recovery just for extra security..so when I restore via back up in recovery all my apps and data and my home screens where they were go back right? So I kind of have to pick Tb or recovery backup right? Hopefully this made sense.

If you want all those setting and placement of apparently to be the same use the advanced restore. But TB is a great tool and I would advise using it regardless of the recovery screen trick. BTW I'm a girl, LOL. Hope this helped.

As a side note, some launchers (specifically ADW Ex) allows you to back up settings and desktop screens so you can restore them. However, it does not allow you to back up widgets. Another alternative is takes pictures of your screens using the screenshot app of similar product. Good luck!

Yes. You can use titanium backup to backup your launcher, or you can use ROM manager to backup your current ROM.

But what if I switch to another rom? The only option I have is to download that launcher and restore on that launcher? Makes sense if you can't, but just wondering.
I've been wondering the same thing myself...I've been testing out different roms all week since I got this thing...I've stopped trying to set up email, backgrounds, themes, or widgets. If there was a way to restore the home page layouts, that would be great.
I user go launcher ex. I set up my home pages the way I like it. Then I export the settings and import settings on new ROM. As far as individual settings for apps, use titanium backup.

I use SPB as my launcher of choice along with ti and does exactly that folders and all. infanct its so good that as long as i have root on any device and the same apps installed say on a tablet then when i install SPB on it from the market it already knows my layout. if im missing an app or two then they just dont show up. but alteast i dont have to rebuild my entire "desktop" all over again.

After you make a backup in CWM and flash the new rom, you can always try to advanced restore in CWM just the data partition. I have done this before but it doesnt work across builds with wayyy different frameworks or basebands. Goodluck.
Just use titanium backup... it will restore the launcher and all of its data! Its great... it works even if you delete the launcher or flash a different rom

This really depends. If you're using the stock launcher that came with the rom, You really don't want to restore system apps on titanium, it'll cause issues. If you're like a lot of users and use a third party launcher, it's easy, because all the data gets easily backup up with it. If, for example, you're using a touchwiz based rom, it's not really easy. An alternative would be to download the modded touchwiz 4.5 (on the boards somewhere, I forget where exactly), and install that on your next rom. This way, when you do the setup for it, it'll be on /data and can be easily backed up with titanium backup, and restored. (Your widgets will show an error and you'll have to re-add them, but that happens on almost all launchers when a restore is done.)
As for doing an advanced restore with cwm, it's really hit and miss. What you're doing is restore the entire /data partition from one rom to another. If the roms have the exact same base, and very minimal differences, this might work. Some changes between roms this method works flawlessly, others it causes issues. You won't know until you try. Just do a backup in cwm, and a backup with titanium backup (do user app backup only, don't do system.) This way you have both ends covered.
I always use my backup pro. It restores app + data if rooted, and other data like system settings, contacts, bookmarks etc..

To answer your question a little more directly and differently than others, the answer to your question is no.
There is no way to restore your home screens exactly how you had them before you flashed a ROM. You can restore your apps and settings via the methods offered by others, but it will not put shortcuts and widgets exactly where you had them on your home screens.
For the home screen import, you have to already have a ROM installed and a home screen set up. That is only for installing a different launcher.

Actually if you're using mybackup root or pro. You can... Backup> data> android home.
Well this is if you flash a rom that uses the same launcher (i think.. Haven't tried it with different launchers). Most roms are tw anyways. But this is probably your best bet.

This is what I do every time I flash a new rom works every time. Do the titanium thing to just as a back up.
Keep a copy backed up on your computer, in case you wipe you emmc " did that once" lol

Do titanium backup and restore only data no system and don't enter any Google email if you have more than 1 phone to have a same setup, then do the ROM backup when all apps restored. That backup will be universal (without Google ID) and you can restore to any phone (your wife, friend..) Once restore they just enter their own ID and all set.
Titanium restore needs to answer yes no install...for each app. Take about 30 min to restore.
CWM process faster but for same ROM.
changing ROM needs titanium backup and restore without Google ID.
Is there any app that can restore all apps+data where I don't need to re-download and re-organize my apps all over again? I came from iOS and iTunes pretty much restores my phone and all the apps exactly the way I had it if I were to switch to a new iOS device. I was hoping android could do the same. For example I have apps in folders but when I keep flashing roms and I try to restore my backups I never get all my apps restored and I even have to download lots of apps all over again. I have the paid Titanium Backup Pro, MyBackUp Pro, Rom ToolBox Pro and I've used TWRP.
All of those apps will do that. I have both titanium and rom toolbox. I prefer titanium. It's fast and let's me backup and restore sms/mms too

I use Titanium Pro to batch backup then restore APPS and APP Data. Works great with about 100 or so apps I have on my device.
Then only SYSTEM data I restore is call logs/messages.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I am saying that those apps that I have paid for I have also used and not a single one will do a mirror restore after I flash a rom. Even if I go back to stock rom and restore I still have to download old apps and almost always have to remake every page and folder. What I am asking is if there is an app or program like iTunes that can do a mirror restore where all the hard work doesn't have to be repeated every time I flash a new rom?

Some launchers (I use Nova) have a backup/restore for your layout so you don't have to keep redoing it. Is that what you mean? Placement of your widgets, folders, and apps and such?
I use titanium backup and it restores everything for me. After flashing, download titanium and run batch restore. Mine even sets up nova how I had it. Titanium works, I use it almost every day. I flash alot and only clean flash. I can have my phone all set up in like ten minutes.
