disable vibrate on reboot? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know of a way to disable the vibrate that takes place during startup,x power off or reboot? Its probally right in my face and im just overlooking how to disable it.
also just noticed even when mine is on silent i still get the vibrate on said functions.

either im getting no replies cause of my ignorance or others sit and scratch heads as well.

I think that's the one vibration you can't get rid of...this might be able to happen with a custom recovery, so post this q in the development section and see what you get.

thanks for answering. As for posting this in the dev section, lol...no way, itll get moved back here to Q&A so fast it wont get 1 reply because its not a rom or mod. Unfortunatly ill have to wait till someone does know and happens to stumble upon my thread before it gets pushed to page 2 cause then its a lost cause. thanks for atleast replying though...l8ter, veritas

Not sure this is something you can change, and if you can it won't be easy. A custom Boot animation won't effect it because the vibrate comes before the animation anyways. Not sure man, sorry.

Yea I don't think it's possible to change the vib setting. Maybe it's the phones way of letting you know it's turned on as a fail safe, I mean incase the screen breaks etc.

911! need help something wrong

k i read about an app called spare parts on here so i figured hey i'll try it out. i did saw what extra setting were there and decided i wasn't gonna use it didn't even change any settings.
after opening the app and then pressing home something wierd happened i saw a white screen with HTC in green in the center for about 3-5 seconds my backround with a loading pop-up and nothing else for about another 3-5 seconds. this is happening every time i press the home button or exit out of an app. it's getting infuriating, i'm also getting wicked bad lagg in sense and lot's of hang up's and force closes. also wicked bad battery life. i don't know what to do to fix it.
i have the OTA and rooted last night with unrevoked method, this morning is when i tried the app around 10 or 11 not sure last couple days is a blur.

get used to it if you intend to use sense, the screen you speak of is sort of like the htc sense/rosie intro. If you dont like it you can go vanilla and use another launcher, like adw froyo, launcherpro, or even the extra launcher thats included....
Sounds like you enabled aggressive handling of apps. Can you get in there to turn it off?

Or just do a factory reset.
also, you are experiencing some isolated problems which leads me to beleive the issue is software related rather than hardware.I have experienced NOT ONE of the issues you speak of. Make sure you update prl. I can vouch for that one. My data was 90% broken till i did. Also try and wipe data, that would prolly fix everything as well.....FYI, i cannot gurantee the problem lies with your hardware OR software. Thats just my diagnosis. Good luck
Thats what it was the agressive handling of processes thanks alot guys feel like a fool.....

Heh...I did that once on my hero. I know the feeling.
some versions of spare parts come with a launcher. the problem is that when you press the home button now, it's trying to goof with /system, which is forcing the reboot. even though you may be rooted, you don't have rw privileges in /system while messing with android.
you may be able to get away with accessing /system and erasing your goofy installed spare parts app. you'll have to do that through adb shell, and the custom recovery. do a search for 'remove apps', you should find it easily enough. i think the thread was moved from dev to general, or q and a.
anything that will call a write to /system (i.e. a rooted app that needs access to it to work right) has the potential to cause the phone to reboot. when i installed adfree, it had the same effect. trying to install hosts (which write to /system/etc) caused a reboot. i had to install hosts through recovery with a push after remount.
hope that helps
Hmm I installed autokiller and it appears to work doesn't mess with anything that is
I really dunno a way of testing that its actually working though if you where looking for a way to manage memory
I was using a task killer but read up on stuff and turned it off just keeping it in case I need it for something that wont close and the phone is running great and battery life keeps getting better and better.

autokiller
People you need to be careful with autokillers!
Make sure that you are not closing down sense items.
Put anything that says htc or sense on ignore.
If not you are shutting down parts of sense. Then sense has to reboot. Witch is why you see the white screen with the htc logo in the middle.

[Q] Answer phone

every other time my phone rings I cant answer it. The accept button just wont move?? is it just me or have anyone else had this error I have a dezire z
Do you have set CPU set to 245MHz @ screen off?
no i dont, why?
Well that could be one cause, maybe it's a bad app causing your phone to temporarily freeze? Can you slide it the other way and ignore the call?
Did you try flashing a different kernel?

why do you suggest this? how do you know hes using kernels? im just trying to see what your connection to the solution is -its quite a specific answer to a problem that hasnt really been examined. what rom is he on, etc before you can start talking about kernels -- so can you clarify?
accept button - do you mean the slider? if you have cmod - just activate settings to disable lock menu/trackball/ whatever --also you could try the no-lock unless you have security issues.
if no cmod -- theres apps to reduce the lockage -- that may help you get your phone calls but still doesnt fix the problem? you could try enomther's and his awesome extra ssettings app has all those options
Thanks for your help, well it is my wifes phone and it is fresh from the store, just a bunch of apps installed.
I will try some things and see if i can figure it out. And yes it is the slide button, can that be switched for a push button, Is it theme based or in the dialer?? hope you understand what i say.

If its a stock DESIRE Z and not a G2 then I think it's safe to assume its got sense on it and not AOSP. Did you try hard resetting it? (power down and pulling the battery for at least 30 sec) other than that id check for any OTA updates in the settings menu. OR if you're willing/know how, you can root it and run CM or virtuous. Both ROMs are excellent. If you do that and the problem persists, it could very well be a faulty unit. You have a lot of options!
I found I had problems answering calls when I had a specific make of screen protector on the phone. As soon as I took that off and went back to a previous one I'd used then it was fine again ! It's a long shot, but I thought I'd throw it in there.
Problem solved, An update did the trick, thanks for helping out my friends,
same problem , cannot answer with swipe keys
I have the same problem, which update did you use

need some help with scripting

i'm a real idiot when it comes to creating a code... i can read and understand code, but not make it.
what i want is to change /sys/class/leds/jogball-backlight/brightness file...
this file controls the trackball light... i want it to be flashing (smoothly) constatly, even when asleep to know that my phone is alive...
so, default briightness value is 0 (as in OFF)... flashing smoothly is 7. so i just changed the file from 0 to 7... the trackball became flashing... so far so good.
i locked the phone and let it go to sleep... the trackball suddenly stopped.
i checked the file again, and it got replaced from 7 back to 0.
so what i want is a script that periodically sets the value to 7 to keep the trackball flashing.
any help?

This sounds like a bad idea that is going to ruin your trackball led and drain the hell out of your battery. Why would your phone ever not be "alive"? What is the point of this?

the point of this is because i use beta/test mods and ROMs, i sometimes see the phone "dead" as in i should boot it again and remove the beta mod to fix it... so i should at least know that the phone is alive only with looking at it

going in via adb shell seems like a less destructive way to know if your phone is "alive", since if you can't get in via adb, then the trackball led indicator is rather pointless even if it keeps looping.

[Q[ What causes SSODs in JB ROMS?

Question, does anybody know what exactly causes the SSODs in the JB ROMS? Just curious. I've had them happen in the MOST UNWANTED times. Like, I'll be recording a video. Then suddenly the phone will freeze, then either reboot or shut off. I would then have to take the battery out and put it back in. To turn the phone back on.

Well, not necessarily. First thing is find out what is causing them. Second, will be what can be done with said cause to fix it, without breaking anything. Though, once the cause is revealed, im sure it wont take to long to fix the issue.
note to the op don't remove the battery, you can damage your phone.. just hold the power button, it will restart..

Yea I think the two of you are saying the same thing.. Its basically recognize issue and these smart developers for android will squash the bug. The thing that gets me is the question. Like in typing it do you really think that as long as the bug has been out that if someone knew what to do it would not of been done? Also if you check the changelogs you see countless kernel fixes that shows they are trying everything. What needed to be done in this case is trying to understand the changelogs and commits so you better educate yourself on Android
The biggest annoyance for anyone wanting to mess with less-than-stable ROMs is that you really can't tell what's going to cause it. As with any other software/OS/whatever it is completely dependant on what you have done to the phone. The minute you begin adding apps or configuring your phone to anything other than the exact way it comes, you are causing your own unique set of test criteria.
Obviously there are gray areas in all of this, and customizations can often even assist in the understanding of what causes failures, but the bottom line is that it's up to you just as much as it is up to the stability of the ROM.

"How to get into Safe Mode to troubleshoot problems

So I have always used a site called (HOW TO GEEK.COM) http://www.howtogeek.com/ for any issues I have with my pc the people there are really smart and patcient with people like me who only have moderate skills and need guidence. I gert emails from them every day. They have been diving more and more into android. So I was reading today and I saw that just like your pc android has a safe mode that boots up only the stock software disabling all third party stuff. So if you are experiencing crashes or unusual battery drain or other problems you can start by booting to safe mode and seeing if the problem is still there. I am sure that this is nothing new to devs and others that have had android for a long time but I know I have been on this site for like two years and I have never seen it mentioned so I just wanted to let others know.
So to get into safe mode for 4.1 and later you go to the shut off menu and long press the power off and you will be asked if you want to boot into safe mode just say yes and done. The phone will reboot and at the bottom left corner will say safe mode. On older versions of Android, long-press the power button and then tap Power Off to turn off your device. Turn on the phone or tablet by long-pressing the power button again. Release the power button and, when you see a logo appear during boot-up, hold down both the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons. Continue holding the two buttons until the device boots up with a Safe mode indicator at the bottom-left corner of its screen. Thats it really easy. Its kinda like easter eggs. I mean if there is that then I am sure that there are other neat little things that we dont know about. I also read that starting in 4.2 they are hiding the developer options I for get just how to get it but it was something like going into about phone then pressing android version or build number 8 times or something like that. It was on the same site but I dont feel like searching right now but I am sure there are other things. Does anyone else know of any? I would like to know if you do post them here.
peace
Safe mode's been around on Android since the early days; just about every android phone has safe mode on it, but not always the same way to get into it.
You might help more people if you renamed this thread (or at least added to it), something like "How to get into Safe Mode to troubleshoot problems).
Thanks for sharing.
cool this could help someone one day, nice post. You actually contributed something to this forum, which is a lot more than most of these "post your homescreen" or "when we get updatez fro tmobilez" threads are!
thanks

How do I go about renaming the thread do I just ask a mod? You are right it how to get into safe mode would be a better title. Has anyone tried this on our phone yet because when I tried I do t know if it is because we have a different menu or b3cause I am on stock but the first method did not work but the one for older versions did. So maybe aosp is different than some of the others. And yea I dont want to annoy people and be part of the problem. Im sure I have posted some bullcrap too but I learned when I got negative or no responces. I see your point I come here to learn between here and the otber site I mentioned is how I learn all my computer skills. I have never taken a class and I have built my own computers. I am still a long way away from doing anything on android thou. So yea I just wanted to help is all.
Peace
