Hi all. This isnt new but for those of you that havent found it yet this is the Xoom Honeycomb boot animation feel free to download. But I need assistance, after installing it when the animation ends and it is about to loop there is a quick flash to white screen and then it continues. Not too big of a deal but was wondering if anyone could help me, Im kind of a perfectionist but have no idea how to fix it myself. Thanks
Heres a vid of what it looks like
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSWnKu5hr7g&feature=player_embedded
and I will attach the bootanimation.zip
For those that dont know. All you have to do is take the .zip, rename it to bootanimation.zip and copy it to the /system/media folder. Backup your old boot file if you want.
Edit: Found a ported version for the droid x that looks pretty good going to attach that. I also attached two landscape bootanimations. One has the Honeycomb Bee at the beginning and the other doesnt. Just thought you guys might want to see it.
I looked at the frames, theres nothing that shows a white flash there but once it played on the phone, i see the flash. also for our vision phones, we need it to be 480x800. the zip files are all 512x256 and its all stretched
Looks sexy

Looks very blurry..... can someone provide me with a higher resolution version?
Thanks everyone. Ill scour the internet and try and find a better resolution
Edit: I found a landscape version of it that looks a little better I will add it to the first post in case anyone wants

Can anyone create a zip that we can flash through clockwork? I'm unsure of what to do with this zip and the placement of files? I believe its something like placing it in the data/local but again I'm not sure
Yup, that's where it can go..

Installed this and its freakin BEAUTIFUL on G2. It could be better though, but I feel I'm nitpicking at that point with the black colors looking smudgy

Your right. Just put it in the data/local folder and your done.
(use root explorer or some other file explorer, that lets you navigate the android files)
Reboot to see the animation.
does the phone have to be rooted?? not sure exactly how to install..
I took out some of the solid black screens and it seems to flow better without the long breaks.

Do you have it in portrait?
Oh yeah thanks for your hard work
Cool!
Hey, i tried to convert it to portrait, but my zip won't play the animation on start. Is there something special to do with the png's?
I uploaded the edited images only - would you be so kind and make it working??
Thanks!
Edit: Ok. Got it working. I compressed the zip instead of not compressing it...

The only thing I "created" was the bootanimation. I found the original burning apple video online and just made it so it could work as a bootanimation.
I guess I only should get 50% credit for this. But thanks.
(The juggling droid bootanimation is the only one I fully created from beginning to end)

Hey guys... I'm kinda new to the Cyanogen scene but I'm realizing how incredibly awesome it is! I successfully flashed my mytouch with the current CynMOD. I would love to get the burning apple on my start screen. One question, when you download the file, place it on the sdcard... I get a little lost from there. Do I place it in the CMupdater Data folder? Do I start from the quick reboot screen and extract from there? Little help.
Thanks

You can use a file manager from Market (like "Linda File Manager" or "ASTRO File Manager") to navigate to "sdcard" folder and copy the bootanimation.zip to "data/local".
Or you can install DroidExplorer on your PC to copy the file directly to "data/local" via your PC.
If you are using CM5 I recommend putting it in system/media.
The original bootanimation is in there, so remove it and put the new one in there.
If you put it in data/local it will work but then you have an extra zip file just taking up space.
Nice!
Love it man, thanks! Now I get a visual to match my feelings for the "fruit"; especially considering the Draconian measures jobs takes with his products. Shame... Thanks again!
Made a little modification to the portrait one.

Ok... first of all, this boot animation is freakin sweet!!!
But, I have an issue.
I have tried this animation in both media and local on my G1. My boot time went from 45 seconds to over 6 minutes!! Regardless of where the zip file is.
How in the world do I fix this??? Temporarily going back to stock boot animation.
Thanks for your speedy replies.

I had an idea for a boot animation. You know how when you go to a movie and it starts out with the countdown in old black and white, but then the film seems to melt away revealing a modernized version of the countdown with all sorts of special effects? it is similar to this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzTdxiixjrk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
But starts at 10 and the film melts around 7 or 6 and also seems to slow down. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Also there are some sweet sound effects.

I don't know how to edit with the app, but this is what I meant:

thatd be sweet....i have no idea how to make boot animations but would easily use something like this if someone made it!
Yeah, with the sound effects as well, but instead of it saying dolby digital at the end, it could say HTC G2 or Desire Z.
That would be sick!
I vote for this, that would be so, excuse my French, Fu**ing awesome.
Ill give it a try when I get some time if no one beats me to it. Would be nice if it faded to android instead of dolby at the end. See what I can do, no promises, ive only done a few boot animations.

Umm from what I remember a boot animation is easy to make but a video needs to be made first then the boot animation
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I just plan on using mplayer in the terminal to turn the video into 100+ png files and extract the audio to mp3. Then I will crop the images to 480x800. I also plan on removing the dolbly frames at the end. I would like to incorporate an android at the end? I want to keep the sound with it. I have the audio boot animation right now, I will see how it works out. I will posy my results. Might take me about a week between work, school, and my wife and kids its hard to find spare time.
I have the animation built, I am trying to reduce the size of the png files. There are 180 files and it runs too slow at the moment. I will keep trying. I'm not very good with large batch operations, learning as I go.
+1 for this. I really like!
Try setting the framerate lower than standard video which is usually 30fps lower it to about 1/2 and see how it runs.. then export it. Open all the files in photoshop and batch process them using "save for web" as png to get the file size down

So, how is it about this nice idea ?
I am having a hell of a time trying to get these png files to a size that will properly boot. My end zip is always around 71 mb. Anyone care to enlighten me on a easy way to batch modify 150 png files to a smaller size. I'm running linux mint and using grub, ffmpeg, and mplayer to try this. Maybe there is an easier way?
I would have done it on Photoshop with a batch but on linux...
Brian, it would be so sick if u got this working! I'm sorry, i can't help with anything cuz everything i read in your last few posts and others just blew my mind away! Lol! Noob here! Good luck, and a donation will definitely come your way if it works out!

no but they have gifs in the thread I linked in the OP. They are said to work with Desire and Evo series phones, and for function on non HTC phones all thats needed is some filename switching (from the little that i read)
This would be really awesome if someone could get these ported over.
Doesn't seem too hard. I will take a crack at it in a bit.
tried it with this beta theme i flashed but it didn't work. Not sure why. Maybe the drawable xlms need to be modified?
Looks really cool, gl to anyone who tries to get this done Would be awesome for sure.
Its just a copy and paste with probably some renaming of the images..... doesn't seem hard to incorporate at all.... I could do it but I don't know how to make a flashable zip but I could just move it to a aosp theme

I tried it. I didn't bother checking every single file name to see if they match but they all look familiar to me. you can google how to create flashable zip. I just used a theme and replaced all the icons but like i stated, it didnt work. I have swapped out icons many times before so I am sure the file names had variation.
Well did any icons copy over to the theme and flash right? That's what I do is just tweak the icons in the Res folders of the framework apks in themes and roms..... it must be conflicting names like you said.... ill take a look at it here soon and see what it is.... ^_^
I am failing at making a bootanimation.zip and I am not sure why. Anyone experienced want to take a look at my file and give me a hint as to why this doesn't work? It gets rid of the default Android, but just displays a black screen until the homescreen shows up.
Did I stump everybody? I figured I was just missing something silly like the picture files need to be in 7.5 bit format or something.

You must save the zip as an uncompressed zip file. Compression level should be set to storage mode.

That I am doing. Though I have noticed that sometimes "store" in WinRar compresses by just a few bytes. I made one that was completely not compressed (byte match for stored size versus on drive size). Still not working, so I've ruled that out as being the issue.
I'm attaching a version created by the tool in the link above. It still doesn't work. I have no clue why... still looking for hints.

That looks like it'd be a cool animation. I'll mess with it later when I get home. But at first glance comparing it to other animations I have that work, they are either greyscale or RGB jpgs @ 72dpi. Yours are indexed pngs @ 300dpi. That link says png should be ok, but it says to use RGB. Maybe you could try that next.
Here you go. I converted the images to 72dpi RGB jpgs. I'll still probably try again leaving them as 72dpi RGB pngs, but these animations work now.
I included your original 30fps version, but also slowed it down a bit. I think the 12fps looks good, but unless you have just wiped your dalvik cache, you might not have enough time to see very many blinks. The 21fps version isn't bad, but I think it's still a bit too fast. Tweak the speed to your preference.
These are not flashable, btw, so just copy over with root explorer or whatever.
Has to be renamed sanim.zip to work in GB.

I can't wait till i figure out how to completely customize roms to exactly what i want! i'm learning a little more day by day. this thread has helped me a little and will now be my reference if i run into this problem once i finally make my own boot ani. GIMP is typically the only image program I use, hasn't failed me yet.
**UPDATE** I have found the original files. Be advised, these originals are NOT flashable. You will need to make your own flashable zips or push/copy the files and change the permissions manually. New Link: https://www.sendspace.com/file/3j9fji
I present a Matrix style digital rain boot specifically made for the HTC ONE. This took the better part of 3 months to finish as I do this in my spare time. Also, it's apparently extremely difficult to find a good quality Matrix font online. So I made one from scratch and including it in the attachments for ****s and gigs (It's not a fully polished/finished font, just forewarning you). There is an mp3 attached as a zip for anyone interested in matching audio.
UPDATE 12/19/13: Another user (wmg316) was kind enough to make a version which features the word "rooted" as some people have requested. Here is a link to his post with the download, enjoy!
It's like, a link within a link...
The download for the boot animation is now a flashable zip you can install through recovery. The original link is still available for those that like to do things the old/manual way. The audio has also been optimized and tweaked, it should now play perfectly in sync with the animation. As another user requested, I have added a version with the caption, "Quietly Brilliant" to the end for those that like the stock quote. It is available for download under the "Matrix Green" section. I Also added two more audio files, one slightly louder and one slightly quieter.
DISCLAIMER:
Any questions, ask. Anyone interested in using it for their rom/project/different device, that is perfectly ok, you have permission too. All I ask is that you give credit where credit is due and hopefully link back to this post for others.

New Link to download all: https://www.sendspace.com/file/3j9fji
If your sound does not work after flash, most likely you will need to add a small snippet of code to an xml file. It's easy, just follow the directions below.
Adding audio:
On your phone use a file manager to browse to the folder: /system/customize/CID
Open the xml file contained in the directory with a text editor. Once opened, scroll down till you come across some text regarding bootanimations. The text will look something similar or exactly like ex:
Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFBOOTANIMTION.zip" />
All you need to do is add a line of text and save, ex:
Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFBOOTANIMATION.zip" [COLOR="Red"]audio="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFAUDIOFILE.mp3" />[/COLOR]

I am not familiar with that specific rom. If you can, look in the folder /system/customize/CID and open the xml file in a text editor and look for a line of text about boot animations. If there is a line that reads something to the fact of:
Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFANIMTION.zip" />
If you find that and there is not mention of the word "audio" after it, simply add the line yourself, ie:
Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFANIMTION.zip" [COLOR="Blue"]audio="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFAUDIOFILE.mp3" [/COLOR]/>
Save the file and reboot to test. Beyond that, I am not informed enough on that rom to know if there is any reason why it would not play sound.
