[Q] Camera app problem - Defy General

My friend got the phone work perfectly before but after few apps installed, the camera got a problem which is there are few line cut cross the foto, the photo would be like the file attached.
After wipe all, the problem stills there.
The firmware is original and never rooted, is there any experience this problem?
Cheers!

Hi
Clear data, or factory data reset?
G.

I know of a least two other people with the similar lines on they defy camera, bu they only had a single vertical line, I thing it was a problem with a faulty camera sensor
See link below.

yea, i think it is the same problem with linked one, but don't really understand why there is no problem with video taking, and some photo took before the problem comes also got those line on the photo. (There are no problem as all with those photo before.) It seems like the camera encode unit got some problems. (From raw to jpeg?)

As I'm trying to find the original firmware to re-build the system but I can't find it (The Hong Kong (east-asia?) firmware). Even if I found, should I need to root it first?

[Q] Camera doesn't work after installing energy rom?

Hi, I'm a new user, I tried to post on the energy rom thread but am not allowed to.
Also, googled the issue a bit and as far as I searched didn't find similar issues.
I recently bought a htc touch pro2 and flashed it with energy rom. after flashing it, the camera doesn't start (click camera and nothing happens). also i notice when accessing settings, the camera and video tabs don't display (click multimedia > pictures and videos > menu > tools > options)
I am guessing it's some setting that should be changed, but i can't figure out how to do it.
Can you help me?
thanks.

Are you sure it worked on the stock rom? You might try flashing back to stock, and then reflashing the custom rom. Might be a bad flash. Random things happens sometimes.

It worked. I took some pictures.
In the meantime I flashed again and still doesn't work.
Another thing I noticed is sometimes the windows key/button/pictogram stops working, as in, I click it and nothing happens, but the phone works fine
I also flashed it (again) with a stock rom - seems to be the same I had before having started this whole mess. With the stock rom, there's no camera application at all.
I'm definitely doing something wrong but not sure what.

If the stock rom does not have a camera app, then how did you take pictures?
Which version of the TP2 do you have?
I am wondering if you got a flaky phone.

You have an excellent point. What the original rom and the most recently flashed rom have in common is a lot of at&t icons, so I assumed they're the same.
I don't know how to identify the version of the TP2. I bought a T7373, according to the invoice. Active Sync says I have a T7377.
Somehow I believe this whole mess is my fault, rather than the phone being flaky.
It all started because the old touch diamond 2 has the start button in the bottom left corner whereas this one had the start button in the top left corner. I wanted my button back in its place, so i started digging for a windows 6.5.3 rom...
Sounds like you should read this thread.

I did. Before flashing the phone for the first time.
I googled the IMEI as well. According to the IMEI no, it's a HTC Vogue (?).
Anyway, I believe I cleared the version issue, it's HTC Rhodium 100 = T7373.
I think I cleared The missing camera issue as well, meaning that with or without icon, all roms include camera.exe.
Are there any third party apps that check connectivity to the camera (or other camera.exe implementations)?
Thanks,

The Rhod100s are the bastard phones that don't work right half the time with any custom software. They are known for that.
Unfortunately you are on your own with that one. I had the Rhod400. Good luck.
I solved the problem.
Basically, these phones come in two flavors: with one cam and with two cams. The majority has 2 cams and the majority of roms are for 2 cams.
I suspected this might be the issue when I noticed in a comparison chart that T7373 has either one cam or two, also wrote a tiny app to return the exception code and message and the exception returned was "Unknown error" which I then googled and got either bad firmware or bad hardware.
In the meantime my son broke the display of the phone, so I had to fix it, and I also bought a spare stripe for the front phone, the one with the second cam, since it was quite cheap, and I had to fix the phone anyway.
Surprise. Now everything works fine.
So, the moral is, Rhodium is a very nice phone, with a good firmware, just that you need to flash the right firmware for the right model.
I'm interested in any information on how the camera is initialized, maybe I find time tomake changes to one of the versions for the less-lucky people who only have one cam.

no back camera, or it is inverted

My HTC camera is only showing the "selfie" camera
all other apps besides snapchat only show the front camera
On snapchat i can flip to the rear camera but it is all inverted.
So far i've rebooted, cleaned all apps running, force stopped all apps.
Cleaned camera and snapchat data/cache
Reset G-Sensor from HTC settings
Any ideas how to fix this, it literally only appeared today?
I've also rebooted into safe mode and tested the camera app and it makes no difference.
More info:
Only the top camera on the rear is working on snapchat
Bump! anyone know?
Did you ever end up fixing this?

Try RUU, if your M8 version has one. Note that RUU will wipe the phone, so backup beforehand, accordingly.
No in the end I RMA'd the device.

Nope, I just assumed my replacement camera was faulty. I put in the original and it was right side up so it's all good. Not sure how a RUU would fix it. I had wiped data but it didn't work. I assumed it was physical and not software issue.
I was replacing all 3 because one was busted and I couldn't figure out which one. Found out it was the front one during disassembly so I got lucky there.

You replacing the camera is really important information to have posted. Its clearly a hardware problem in your case (less obvious in the case of the OP whose thread you posted in).
I just thought of the RUU, as it would return all partitions to "factory" condition. Something to try, in order to eliminate the possibility of a software issue.
Wiping data doesn't affect any other partitions (such as system). It just wipes your user data. So it doesn't exclude the possibility of a software issue.
But again, its clearly a HW issue in your case. But its hard to help folks, when they fail to provide critical information.

Camera Issue

Had to do a Zoom meeting and figured I would just use my tablet but found that neither camera was working. I rebooted, cleared cache, then finally did a factory reset to no avail.
The stock camera app doesn't give me anything on either camera.
I tried installing a 3rd party camera app and found that the front facing camera works, but I can't get the rear camera to do anything- it just stays black. Also, if I start with the front facing camera that is working, when I switch it to the rear camera, the app hangs with what was showing on the front facing camera.
Is there a chance that this is a software problem? Has anybody else had any issues like this? It is totally up to date, stock software. No root, no drops, cracks, nothing. Tablet could sell as brand new so I don't think it could be an issue from any sort of bending or impact.
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched all the normal forums and sites for camera issues but have found nothing. I also created a case with Samsung last week with absolutely no response.
Strange! Since you have never modified your device, first thing that comes to mind would be to clear data of camera app but since u already did a factory reset, try flashing stock firmware again. Could very well be a hardware problem, had a similar problem with my iphone. Take it to the samsung service centre if flashing doesn't work. Btw, has your camera worked well in the past? Gcb

Thank you. Yes, the camera worked perfectly fine before, just hardly ever used it.

Front Cam Not Working

For a few months ago, my M30's front camera doesn't work. Sometimes the rear camera works but when I switch to front, the app freezes and then I've got to close it. I tested front camera by dialling *#0*# but it says FAILED!!
Any solution anyone?

I checked just now, it works fine. I tried various angles. Everything works fine. As I asked, it may be due to some hardware trouble or something triggering it.

I read on Samsung Community that a user with the same camera error had to go to service center and had the motherboard changed. I believe it IS a hardware issue

Yup, does sound like hardware issue. Just FYI, Samsung current charges are exorbitant, and they in some countries FORMAT whole data even for smallest of things, irrespective of hardware or software issues (f***ing idiots). So, please beware of the 2 points.

Question My front camera button is missing

As the title suggests, recently my front camera button goes missing.. I have to delete app cache and restart the phone every single time for it work. After doing so it only works for a few hours and then reverts to the same issue. It also shows 'SHOULD_NOT_SHOW' under the video tab for the camera.. anyone else facing a similar issue? on the latest fw, on the global stock rom.
I have attached a picture.

Hey
I had the same problem with My RogP6. It was a little funny, because i was trying on my own to factory reset phone twice, and reinstall manually system by downloaded form the Internet earlier, and none of this solutions wasn't sucess.
Finally when i gave up, i sent My phone on the guarranty to Asus service and in the conclusion they wrote that they "Updated firmware and drivers". It made my laughing but unexpected the issue was really gone and camera works fine now.

What?! So I have to return the phone to a service centre? Man... Is there a way to update the drivers or something by ourselves? It's really getting out of hand here.
