I am sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find the answer anywhere. I am using GoVoice for my visual voicemail, and a few days ago my live tile notifications sopped working. I read that WP7 has a 15 Limit Push Notification. Is there a way to fix that or increase the limit?
what 15 apps are you using that use push notifications?

That's the thing. I have a lot of apps, but not a lot of them are push notifications. How can I check which apps use push notifications?
They usually say they need access to that before you install them. Do you ever read that stuff?

I do read all that, but most of them say they need permission for the GPS location, but nothing about PUSH notifications.
I wish there was a place to show all apps that have PUSH notifications.

...and the status of that push, e.g. when the tile was last updated etc. That would be very useful and could reside in the Settings app.
I looked over all my apps and there are only 4 apps that are using PUSH notification. When I go to GoVoice and re-enable the notification it complains that the 15 PUSH notification limit has been reached.

I've not seen that myself but I can tell you a hard reset can cure live tile update issues quite nicely. Beware you'll lose your saved games though.

Send to WP7 had that issue a couple months back. It was an issue with the program versus the OS and the developer was able to fix it.

Some of these developers have never maintained a server like what is needed for Push Notifications. Take a look at Beezz for example, the notifications are iffy simply because the server isn't consistent. As time goes on, and revenue increases you'll see these servers become more consistent. I've seen a variety of apps with push abilities announce server downtimes to enhance their push services.
I figured it was the GoVoice app that was the issue, so I uninstalled it, re-stared the phone, and installed it again. Now it seems to be working.
I don't understand why it would complain about the 15 Push Notification limit.
Maybe GoVoice registered itself too many times? I have no idea how that works, but I would guess it's something like that... I don't even know of 15 quality apps with Push Notifications... all the amazing apps still haven't implemented it
I hope Microsoft will unlimit all the limits it has for developers to code good, working, useful apps.

Hi
A few months ago I was using BB Storm 2 and was alerted when ever someone posted on my Facebook or commented on something I had commented on
Does this do that too or is that just a BB thing
Thanks
Sounds like you're on about push alerts. Depending on who you believe v1.5.0 on the Desire was meant to include these but I've never had them so I'd say no it currently doesn't include them
You can set up you account to send you an email when those events happen but the app will only alert to messages, friend requests & event invites
So if its not included could I not just install the app

Yes, you can and there is a new version out today. But some people seem to get the notifications and some don't.
As an aside, the FB app is already on the Desire - just update it to v1.5.1 (todays update) via the Market
Not had any push notifications so far so doubt it's working...seems the BB/iPhone version are better than the Android one
I get push notifications for new messages, friend requests and event invites, but I had to set the app to never poll, rather than every 30 minutes etc. That should give you push notifications. But it's still quite limited, you don't get anything when someone comments on a photo etc.

The only notifications I get every from facebook are when I get messages or friend requests. But most seem to be quite delayed at times, between when they're actually sent and when I get my notification on my phone.
Only downside to android is the lack of a good well working facebook app.

Facebook need to pull their finger out their arse and actually make a decent app. Fair enough, it's harder to make an Android app than an iPhone app since there are loads of different models.... but still.
As for push notifications, they're suppose to work if you have 2.2+ but they don't.
theres a few 3rd party facebook apps that have push notifications
So the subject says it all. I'm new to WP7 (not new to tech by any means)... Maybe I missed something obvious but I can't find it.
I had two notifications. But- my phone told me of neither of them by itself. I had to open the app to see them.
We're talking they were a good 45 minutes old, too.

The FB app does not support live tiles and push notifications and neither does the people hub, so yeah u need to open the FB app to check out updates.
You can turn on email notifications in your FB Account. Than you will get an email for New Messages or something Else.

I note on the Facebook for Windows Phone Facebook page, they've promised a new version with "features that [we've] been asking for".
It seems it has gotten delayed, probably owing to the recent messages bug, but maybe - just maybe - this may support notifications through the OS or a live tile?
The notifications issue, along with support for FB chat, seems to be the biggest request on there, so we might be in luck.

Your point being?
Live tiles, or rather "at a glance" was the big selling point for WP7. Sure, you get "at a glance" information galore for the people pinned to start but not being notified about messages on FB is weak - should definitely have been in the app from day one. Not to mention they still need to sort out the scrolling issues.

need I remind you that fb push notifications didn't come till last august on android? Let's be real, android's FB before last summer was a piece of crap compared to the apple platform..and even then there were some bugs till fall of last year...and android's been around since 08...and it still doesn't go without bugs...with toasting or push notifications
I mean i admit the facebook xap is paltry and has a lot of issues in coding which should be corrected but I say give it time
I can't believe that the Microsoft-coded stuff (even Facebook app) wouldn't have Live Tiles or push support. That one surprises me more than anything on WP.
However- I never recall my iPhone not supporting Push and doing it well.
Android was certainly sketchy, even after running 2.3.
Right now my best "solution" seems to be as suggested and setting up email notifications.

My point is that this is not a mature OS and I think (hope lol) MS will add that feature in the future. There's a lot of things that could have been added from day one, but MS wanted to focus on the most important features and making sure they work perfectly before implementing them.

Android supports PUSH well. All of Google's services are pushed, and let's get real... Google didn't add C2DM (their PUSH service) until Android 2.2.
Facebook Chat is pushed on Android, and it's as fast as ever. I know because my Vibrant is going off everytime I'm having a Facebook Chat conversation in Widnows Live Messenger/Facebook.com . I also get all of my Facebook Notifications (Posts/Replies/Messages) really fast.
Flory on WP7 has fast Push/Toast/Live Tile notifications, but the application takes so long to load and/or resume that it's virtually useless. Since the first day I've installed it, I've never gotten it to load my contact list for GTalk or Facebook again... So I uninstalled...
I have my Facebook Background Sync interval (Both in the App, and in TouchWiz/SocialHub) set to 12 hours so I know it's not polling, BTW...
Right now my best "solution" seems to be as suggested and setting up email notifications.

The biggest issue I have is that it's clunky, waste data and battery life (downloading emails uses way more battery power than getting a Push Notification) and is simply impractical for people with busy Social Networks. Do you REALLY want 30+ Facebook emails a day? 1 Hour or more less battery life (these smartphones are already working overtime trying to provide decent battery life)? People with low data plans won't want to do that, either...
Also, on other platforms you get to set different Notification Ringtones for Different Applications, which let you know whether or not you need to even bother looking at the phone when something comes in.
Microsoft needs to implement this.
For me, personally, the Push Notifications isn't that big of an issue (Toast), but a Live Ticker on People Tile would be good.
The biggest issue is that People Hub is a gimmick. It's nothing but a glorified RSS feed for social networks. It doesn't support Facebook Messaging or any of that, only posting and replying... That's why if you are a Facebook user you still need the Facebook application installed on your phone. People Hub barely passes for an alternative, if it does at all... It is too functionally thin to be truly useful and the fact that it doesn't update its information in the background makes it not really worth using over the Facebook application which does much more and has a better user experience.
WP7 has really good voice recognition (at least for English) and Bing is good now, so there's hardly a need to open the People Hub when you can just "Call PersonX Mobile/Work/etc." and the phone gets it done faster than you could if you went through the contact list (if it is of factorable length/size). Hell, the other day I just said "Call Pizza Hut" and it got the city right and everything. One less number in my contact list

Google didn't implement C2DM on Android until FroYo.
Facebook Getting Push on Android in August means they were very fast in implementing it after Google added C2DM, which destroys your argument/excuse/justification.
When you cut through the spin, Facebook was fast as hell at getting Push Notifications to Android, and Launched Facebook chat in that client as well.
I simply don't think they wanted to implement their own Push Solution, with 500+ million users... It't just too much. Better to use a native solution and and allow Android/iOS/WP7/BB users get their stuff pushed through Google/Apple/MS/RIM instead...

Facebook integration was, according to MS, a very important feature. Since the FB app is a MS commissioned app you would expect them to have taken full advantage of their, so called, killer features.
My point here isn't so much that it's a missing feature but rather that it's a missing feature which has all the necessary building blocks available for use - and they decided not to utilize them.
Maybe I'm wrong but I swear that WeatherBug Live Tile is updating itself. I'm going to consciously not open it and see if it updates again this morning. If this is true: why can't other apps do this?
As far as the people hub, I don't use it much. Alot of it is as I've already said... None of the apps cache data. That sucks. These apps should be able to poll and cache in the background, but they don't. The People Hub is one such app. I might as well use the Facebook app.
I can see the People Hub having some use but as you said, it seems more like a replacement to Facebook... And unless it has the full functionality of the Facebook app, why use it?
I also agree with your statements on Flory. It never loads my contact list. Maybe I'm not patient enough- but it doesn't even matter... If it takes more than 15 seconds to load it, it's useless.
I must say one thing I miss from Custom ROMs... Headphone amp. I listen to a podcast that, when I'm driving 75mph- you can't freaking hear it with the volume on the radio and phone all the way up. On a Custom ROM I had a headphone amp that I was able to crank it up and hear it with plenty of extra volume. I sorely miss this.
A question... How do I voice dial/search? I realize if I go into the search- I can hit the mic button and do it from there. However from the main screen, holding search does nothing. ????????????
Also... On large contact lists, how do I scroll to say, the M's? I cannot figure this out at all. On Android/iPhone you have a alphabet on the right and you slide your finger down it to the letter you want.

I have the problem, that the vibration notification is very short. When I have it in my pocket I don't realize that a mail is coming. The gmail app has a much longer vibration notification. Is this possible to change?
Thanks!!!
Do you think it's possible to mod the stock Samsung email.apk to use a client certificate (personal certificate in .pfx or .p12 -format)?

I tried a few keyboards and found this problem. I saw on one of the vendors forums that he was looking into this. He found that Samsung used something non standard which caused the issue. I recall a beta from the vendor showing progress as the dictionary worked, but things like auto full stop still didn't. 1 include bypassed exchange policy.
2 mod to allow multiple select and deletion upon search items.
Not sure if these are possible, as I haven't seen too many enhancement base off stock apps.

Hey guys,
So, you know that official Facebook app is supposed to have push notifications, right? Yeah? Well, it apparently does, they just never worked for me at all. Turns out, there's a fix, and it's quite the strange one - you have to sign into the Facebook app on a Blackberry. Once you've done that, you'll start getting push notifications for wall posts, comments, and event invites, with an entirely new notification icon. Weird, no?
Of course, it's not like I had a recent BB device just lying around.. Thankfully, the Blackberry emulator software works just fine for our purposes. I've written up a guide for the curious, with links to the emulator software and so forth.
Seems the fix was found in May over at AndroidCentral, but I'd certainly not seen it posted anywhere I frequent, and had to spend some time searching for a fix to stumble across the post - hence this topic.
Let me know if it works for you.
Really interesting, I'd like to try and see!

Cheers - Weird, isn't it? I'm planning to make a walkthrough video later on today, unfortunately my Galaxy S II's camera is the best I have, so I'll need to convince the girlfriend to let me tinker with her Nexus One to show how it's done.. We'll see if she lets me.
This trick worked for me.
I've always had that notification icon (little sign-post looking thing), and have never signed in on a Blackberry, so I guess mine have always worked for some reason.
Interesting, have you got anything else of note authorised on your Facebook account?

What do you mean by 'private messages'? Facebook chat/messenger? This works for wall posts, comments, and event invites, not messages - that's what the separate Facebook Messenger app is for.

Then I might have said something stupid, I'll keep you updated.
One observation tho, in your guide you say that it's possible, once you enable this, to deactivate the periodic check, since you get push notifications. I agreed and removed it. If push doesn't "push" private messages tho, I guess that I'll have to re-enable the periodic checks, since that checks private messages received too.
Would you be able to do this for us, if we give you our Facebook credentials? (big big sign of trust I know )

Private messages get pushed to me and have done so for the past 2 months, something must be up on your end. Make sure you've turned on notifications for messages in the FB app, if that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas mate
Could you send me your Database files in /data/data/com.facebook.katana/databases after cleaning them from any private information ( I'm particularly interested in the key_value database ).
I'm wondering if there's any way we can activate it without this long process, so I wanna compare settings from a push activated device and a not push activated one.
So why do you think this wasn't implemented in the app itself?
Is it because its buggy or a battery drainer?
Or is it because Apple and RIM pay royalties to Facebook to have the better features?
Thanks man ... working like a charm here.

Hey everyone, no matter what ROM I use, Twitter Push notifications won't work on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. Any ideas why? It's really, really frustrating.
Some background: I'm in the US, using the the GSM Galaxy Nexus, which I got from Negri Electronics. I am running it on T-Mobile USA, and it's currently on the Android Revolution ROM. I seem to be the only one getting this issue.
When I rooted, I followed the guide on theunlockr.com http://theunlockr.com/2011/12/14/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-nexus/ which was unlock bootloader, install superboot/root, install rom manager, install rom. I never installed any radio or anything. But, I don't think any of those are issues.
Any ideas?

With all do respect, you don't know what you're talking about. You don't understand push notifications, clearly. Read up on this, http://blog.twitter.com/2011/07/twitter-for-android-now-with-push.html Maybe you'll understand...
Hmm, I just checked again and I don't have, or at least cannot find that option

You clearly don't understand how it works... Anyone have a solution as to why push notifications don't work for me?

Actually, with all do respect, you dont understand...
The official twitter app does not have push notifications. It polls every "x" amount of minutes or hours you select for new data. It does not received push anything...

If you don't want to take my word for it, read the damn blog - http://blog.twitter.com/2011/07/twitter-for-android-now-with-push.html
or Google. https://www.google.com/search?sourc...s+twitter+for+android+have+push+notifications
Now go bask in idiocy. Follow the development and familiarize yourself with terms, otherwise you look just foolish.
Show us a screenshot then - where is the option for "Automatic Refresh?"- people are willing to help, but the belligerent attitude doesn't help.
As I've said, I've gone through the settings in the Android twitter app (v 3.0.0, for reference), and I don't see that option anywhere. Have you tried asking Twitter for support?
... and you really think I made another account to back myself up (yes, I checked your Twitter feed)? That made me chuckle.

You don't see a it in settings because it's enabled automatically. Jeez, it's people like you that make XDA unbearable... Educate yourself before you continue. I even provided you with links so you can understand.
Settings have changed with versions. You can turn it off manually, but you're probably too incompetent to understand...
Seems like someone else needs to educate themselves. Directly from your ever-so-educational link, it says:
Push notifications let you instantly receive Twitter updates – no matter what you’re doing on your phone. In your account settings, select “automatic refresh” and choose to receive updates for Direct Messages, @Mentions (from the people you follow or anyone), and Tweets.

I'm sorry, I thought you had some intelligence. Options change with new versions... With the new Twitter app, it's under Notifications, mentions, and if you turn mentions off that means push notifications are off, for mentions. Same goes for DMs. Get it, or is that too fast for you?
Good luck solving your problem with that attitude.
At any rate, Twitter would seem to be the best place to solve problems with the Twitter app, but good luck all the same.

Sorry bro, you were frustrating me. I'm on a shorter fuse than usual. Stressed out - apologies either way. Have a goodnight. I need sleep
I am failing to see why you are being so negative. How can you ask for help and when two separate people try to assist you have a hostile tone to your replies.
I have the new updated twitter app on my GN on VZW. There is NO option for automatic updates or push notifications. There is a time frame where you can pick poll intervals.
You don't have to act like a child in the forums to people only trying to help you!
Maybe push notifications just dont work...
Have to agree with the OP here. If someone mentioned/tweeted me I'd get an email and the Twitter notification at the same time (within seconds of the post). Now I only get the email. The app still recognises the mention under the @Connect tab but I don't get any push notifications whereas I used to on the older versions of the app. Either Twitter has changed something or it's not working

strangely it works on my gsII and my friends GSM & LTE GNexus :?
I just had a browse on Twitter's support resources - there is some indication that you may have to have a sync interval set up (nothing to do with push, I know) in order for push to work, but it was just a hint of a whisper of an idea, nothing definitive.
