[Q] Navigation on Oxygen 2.0 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright, since my post was deleted in the Oxygen Thread regarding Navigation Software, i'll ask this here: Are there any Navigation Packages that are currently working on Oxygen (or Gingerbread as a whole) ?
I looked everywhere and could not find a conclusive answer.
Post your personal experiences if you would.

As in the satnav app? That comes with Google Maps.

Igo, Ndrive
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

You have to pay for those though don't you?

Google is your friend. Search hard and be patient.
I'm on Gingervillian 0.8 and using iGo with Australia maps. No problems so far. Can't comment on other roms.

I currently do not have unlimited data coverage, therefore Google Maps Nav is out of the question.
I'll see if I can try the packages mentioned so far, but i'm still open to suggestions
@friedkimchi
I can't find iGo on the Android Market, seems only "business clients" have access to it, whatever that means.

What about Ndrive or Sygic?

you have to pay for navigon as well.
but they announced, that the support for 2.3 will come soon, see http://www.navigon.com/portal/int/uebernavigon/presse/artikel/110215_AndroidUpdate_MWC2011.html
so for now, we have to wait for navigon to release the update

i am using brutmod maps with oxygen 2.0 without any problems. via wifi you can download the map tiles for the app to cache before you travel.

thank you, guess I can switch to Gingerbread after all and update Navigon at a later date... even though I have to compromise and use my Dad's shoddy SatNav from Falk (never get yourself one of these).

[Q] Froyo Gps navigation (which one)

As many of us updated to the new froyo rom which gps navigation program are you using?
I was using copilot but it doesn't work on 2.2 anymore.
Which one do you guys suggest?
I guess you mean other than google's?
Infact the built in gps app doesn't even work for me :/ + it needs data connection

Sygic Mobile Maps 10 works on Froyo, and I suspect so does Ndrive.
Co-Pilot working perfect for me. Try clearing the cache and re-installing.
This is actually typical of CoPilot. On PC, their copy in Australia only worked on Windows XP reliably, years after vista/Windows 7 was released.
I'd never pay a cent to copilot again. However, your problems also may have something to do with it being a pre-release
Ndrive version 10 works out the box so to speak..
Update your CoPilot, the latest version works with Froyo.
Navigon 2.6.1 is also working with Froyo
BUMP
I'm using the fyodor froyo 0.7.2c Custom ROM to Tattoo and nDrive doesn't work. I try installing in SD and IM, neither works, anyone know why?
Igo/motonav works just fine.

just make sure you have the newest version
you can download it from copilot website
After testing many programs in the last 3 or 4 years, I am certain that iGo kicks it.
The iGo variation that is workin fine on the gs is iGo Motonav
You can see it in action here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM2gm5DAOjM
Just skip the intro about the external gps receiver
I also made a video with the gs running Navigon but I forgot to adjust the zoom settings on it..and other things
Both videos actually are on this thread:

just ff to the navigation part
Sygic Mobile maps 10 is very complete too

[Q] Best Gps

What GPS oes evryone use? The google navigtions seems ok but I know there's gotta be something better... I tried the Aura but didn't like that I had to download differnt map paks for each state. Plus it didn't seem like there was a way to set it as default gps app... for instance if I googled an address and long clicked on it I never got an option to use Aura. I did like the diferent voices though. ( hate google voice) What GPS do you guys like?
* I'm just sayin......
I don't think there is anything out there better than Google Navigation. Not even the standalone GPS units LOL.

I have to agree. The looks and function of Google Navigation are excellent. Far and away, better than my standalone Garmin Nuvi. If not for the fact that a data connection is required for Google Nav, I would probably not be using the Garmin at all anymore.
If you want an app that has maps loaded on the SD card, CoPilot is said to be pretty good by some folks on these forums. And reasonably priced, as well (at $5). But I have not personally tried it.
Ye the google navigtion is great and I know its kinda petty but I just hate the voice.. (I know I could turn the volume down but I thiink they should include a way to change it)

Just get a new voice. I have the UK Victoria voice and it's a LOT better.
I believe the GPS will work now with or without data. It was a new feature with the latest release along with the traffic rerouting.
Also, you may want to check Navigon. I use them as my standalone gps and they only focus on mobile gps now. I have heard good things about their mobile apps but as for their standalone gps, I swore by it until google came on board with their latest one.
Copilot is pretty good. Been using it for a couple mths already nice ui extremely smooth, what's best is that everything is on the sd so u can use it without using data to co.stantly render maps

have you try wise pilot, IMHO this is the best. But you have to buy it. for the first 5 days its free.

i don't think so
For offline nav, i've tried igo and sygic. Igo was ok, a bit slow and buggy. Sygic has been great so far: maps by tomtom with free updates, nav still works with screen locked for those of us on motorbikes, free trial available in the market, and it's not restricted to the US. That last one was the big one for me.

Navigation app on Galaxy S II?

Hi guys,
Been on the dark side for the last 8 months (iPhone 4) and thinking on getting the new Samsung Galaxy S II.
From the specs looks like a great device and really looking forward to its release. In the meantime I would like to know which navigation app will be compatible with Android 2.3? Do I have to use a custom ROM to use free apps?
Thanks for any replies.
For example you can use Sygnic Aura, it will work on SGS II
I am also waitinging for this phone
Free apps you can download from Android Market.
Thanks, will I need a custom ROM?
No you do not need custom.
It works on stock ROMs without any problems.
What about Google's own Navigator? I'm pretty sure it's free but I can't remember, it came already installed with Google Maps & Street View on my Galaxy Tab.
Is Google Navigation working offline?
I do not know what apps will be instaled by samsung in this phone.

BTW I saw the Google Maps navigation icon on movis from the testers.
This I found in another thread
what you need is ownhere google maps 5.3.1, this is a mod version which enabled world wide navigation just google it...
Android has free map apps that do work offline. I am not sure which ones and too lazy to look it up for ya.

here's a good one http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android
I use Google Maps' Navigator on the HTC Desire, in the car with an upgrade kit (mount & charger). I'd be interested in getting the same when I get the GS2 as it is a fantastic piece of software.
Tx for the sygic aura tip !
Looks pretty neat, map coverage is much better than Copilot, 3D feature and graphics look great and the prize is VERY reasonable ! Almost whole world for 100 bucks !
That will be my first app purchase once my SGSII has arrived
Well why don't you wait and try google navigation, it's free and it will download your route (as long as you have a data connection when you start your journey)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Google Maps/Navigation caches your route and most visited locations so it has semi-offline capabilities.
what about copilote or Ndrive?
I hope tomtom don't take to long. I know they are concerned about piracy. But i will pay when they do decide.

Navigon is great alright, however they have outdated Q3 2010 maps and does not seem they will update them any soon.
Copilot only £16.99 does this work ok? or can you get for free~?

Dear S,
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
Please be aware that at the moment copilot is not fully compatible with the ice cream sandwich OS, we are working to release an update very soon through the android market..
If you have any further questions, or feel that this incident has not been resolved to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to bring this to our attention.

Google doesn't have Navigation. It is avalible only for USA and few other countrys also it spend your data and this can be problem if you have limited data plan (100MB) like me. 100Mb is more than enought for me because in office&home and other places I use WiFi...

No "travlel via" or "avoid road" or "alternative route" options. It always tries to put me on M60 around junction 9 during rush hour. It's a no go zone at this time and there is no way to tell it to your google navigator.

Hi,
I just installed "NAVFREE".
I did not had a chance to proper test it just for a few miles. it is working but 'i did not liked the roots it took. just a bit of extra miles when rooting.
hope navigon will make a good version for SGN.
Navfree isn't great.. told me to take the 4th exit on a couple of roundabouts that only have 3 exits, and I needed the second :/

Try the free ones from MapQuest or Waze.
If you are following Sygic official tweeter, they said Sygic 4.0 will be released before the end of the year. It supports ICS.
In fact, you can go to their support forum to try the beta version.
I am using 3.0 version 11.2.2, it is a very good app. It has problem in the past with stability, but the latest version fixed it. Tested last weekend with 300 km driving, flawless.
Cant wait their ICS version!

Best GPS Navigation for Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
Does someone managed to make the iGO Navigation fit the screen of the GN?
If yes, can help me through? I just cant get to make it work properly.
Oh, and by the way, what GPS navigation do you use? GMaps is inferior compared with a dedicated GPS app like Sygic or other. Do you ppl agree?
Thanks!
I use sygic as its the best for android, used to use tom tom on my iPhone.

Only thing bad about Google Maps is that if you go off the preset route, you're stuck if you loose service.
You guys know about Google new off line map, that is coming.
http://androidcommunity.com/google-maps-offline-coming-soon-to-android-20120606/
I dont like GMaps because it give me the shortest route, wich sometimes are roads out of use and it isnt possible to select fastest route like in Sygic.
I used to have the same issue with Sygic, while I was in Bulgary and I found myself on a mountain farm, because the old route has to travel a mountain, road that was out of use for years ) so I set Sygic on the fastest route and there we go.
GMaps is fine, but It doesnt alarm you when you overcome the speed limit, it does have only english language and if you enter an area without signal, well that's the death of your assistant.
That's why I preffer a dedicated GPS application.
Did someone of you guys used iGO on GN?
If Google allows for offline turn by turn navigation and routing with their offline maps then I'll be happy, but being able to download maps and not be able to calculate a route without a data connection is just pointless.

Where did you hear this from? I had TomTom on my iPhone and it was the best Nav I've ever used!
However, currently without TomTom available for the GNex, I use the Navigation app that comes standard with the Nexus.

I just reroute often using Google nav since it easily shows the length and times of various routes. Traffic included which makes a huge difference.
I use both Sygic and Google Nav. I like Sygic because of its possibility to work offline and download any map I want.
When I was in Mexico, I used Sygic since I didnt have an active data connection and could easily download maps. I recently came across Route66 which is also a great free app and uses TomTom maps. The FollowUp feature is a bit of a gimmick but always impresses my fellow passengers when I mount it on the dash.Give it a shot if it is available in your country.

Google navigation caches so it continues to work, without a data connection, unless you leave the recommended route.
