[Q] How did I screw up my Market? - Defy General

I cannot download anything from Market, either new or updates - just stays on 'Starting Download'. No problem with connection or browsing Market. On stock 2.51 ROM. I removed the following apps (but don't see how they would affect the Market)
AmazonMP3
GoogleTalkService
GoogleTalkStorage
ESMusica
HipHopOfficial
RevolverTV
TrueCountry
HelpCentre

Weather2.1
QuickOffice2.0MOTO

Are you downloading using wifi , new owners are told to do the initial market setup first download using 3G, and then wifi download should work ok, also make sure your using @gmail.com and not @googlemail.com for your email address.
Also i have heard that clearing the market cache in the built in android task manger can help if the above does not work.

Removing the ones I highlighted was your mistake. Never remove core Google apps.

@ccav2000
Thanks. Found and reinstalled the 2 apk's and all back to normal.
I had backed up with Titanium, but for some reason it only (seemed) backed up the data not the app. I can't work out how to back up the apk.

Hi, I also did the same mistake and now I cannot download or update anything on the market, could you tell me where to download the 2 apk's?

Everytime I start a download it says 'downloading' for a few seconds and then says 'download paused' and remains there.
This issue is on wifi only, and happened out of the blue yesterday. On my 3g data connection the apps download just fine.
I tried a lot of methods like clearing cache and all but nothing worked.
What can I do?

1. Goto Settings -> Application -> Managed application
Set filter: All (default is Downloaded)
Select Download Manager and Clear data
2.Disable (uncheck) Settings -> Data manager -> Data saver
3. Logout and login Google Talk

I did all that but it still didn't work

Maybe ur settings are set where it disconnects wifi when the light go off... try changing battery profile to performance... in the battery manager...
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

wow setting the battery to performance mode worked! thanks a lot!
strange though, my battery had always been on battery saver mode and apps used to download, i wonder what happened
the apps did not download even when the wifi was still connected, it said 'download paused' after a few seconds itself

Market downloads paused again on wifi since yesterday! What is happening?!

Apps on SD card gone from downloads list.

Ive just noticed that any app that i transfer to SD using the stock un-modified un rooted Desire no longer appear in my markets downloads list? So i dont see if theres any updates, itens like barcode scanner, pingchat, rockplayer, papertoss & movies (flixster) are all installed via the market, but since i transfered them to my SD card they dont appear on my downloads list in the market?
Is this standard for everyone? If i search for the app in the market it appears and also has installed in the status but is not on my downloads, so when theres an update its not there.
On that note also i have ticked the auto update box for every app but none have ever updated, theres been a few apps with updates in the downloads section of my market that are ticked to auto update but they just stay there with the orange update status?
Any help?
Thanks.

I had the same problem. I managed to fix it; here is what I did.
I cleared the cache and data for market app and restarted it.
Searched in market for each app that I had installed and tick the auto-update box again. Gave the phone a reboot and when I checked after a while the apps were back in downloads.

Market not working and phone is rooted

Hi,
Originally, I rooted my phone to gain access to the Android market. The market opened and says loading then it would return back to the menu.
so, I downloaded market access and marker enabler and both of them do not open the market.
Just as a note, the country im in is a "forbidden country"--so Google says. I can't even open code.Google.com.
Is there some sort of modified version of the Android market app that I could use to access the market?
Clear market cache, reboot into cwm recovery and clear the dalvik cache. Reboot, market enabler, save settings, settings list, long press on a provider, fake provider now. Then Try market again. When finished with market, restore settings from market enabler. Good luck.

because my net is too slow right now, since im using the carriers internet, i cant download the flash cwm image thingy.
so to delete the cache, i went to the terminal
su
cd data/dalvik-cache
rm *
rebooted and followed instructions, but still, its not working
You cleared the Market cache as well?
Settings, applications, manage app, all, market, force stop, clear cache.
Clear dalvik again and reboot.
Try market enabler same as before.
Note: If you fake your carrier, I don't think you can use the phone data connection, because market enabler changes the APN ? Maybe you will need to use WiFi until you restore the settings. I think also that if you restart the phone, settings will be restored back to your own carrier.

yea, i did all that, ... , and im guessing the same thing, ... , but i dont have any wifi connections at this time. if i find one, and it works, i'll post it here, hopefully

[Q] Unable to install Apps from market

I am unable to install apps from the market. I can access the market and select the apps but all I get is starting downloads which doesn't change even if I leave for hours. I have WI-FI enabled and can access the web with no problems. Here is what I have tried already.
Clear Data in Downloader,
Clear Data and Cache in market
Factory reset
Flashed to CyanogenMod 7
and I still cannot download any apps.
If you have s-off you could try deleting the market.apk file and then reinstalling from a non market source? If you search xda I'm sure I remember several threads about this.
I had this problem a few times. Have you recently changed your Gmail (If you use Gmail) address from @googlemail to @gmail? This is what caused the problem for me and many others...

I never did work out what was causing the problem. I installed CyanogenMod 7 and all is work again.
Yea, sometimes just a reflash fixes the problem. I also found that, sometimes, the download would just finish but never actually install - almost as if the .apk downloaded but the Market Process just never actioned the new .apk to open, so it just sat in /cache until the next reboot, doing nothing.
log in to google talk...i think that should solve the issue.

[Q] Download stuck in notification dropdown

I was downloading a word document (.docx) from Gmail and the download has become stuck in my notification dropdown. The download has completed - progress bar is complete and the document can be viewed in downloads.
To resolve this I have attempted to clear the notification, delete the document from my phone, restart the phone, restart the phone including a battery pull, clearing the market cache (suggested from another site), and looking through the files on the phone on my computer in an attempt to find some type of temp notification bar file that I could just delete to no avail.
Does anyone know of a way to remove a notification manually from this phone? I really can't think of anything else to do.
Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.
Anyone?
Also, I'm running stock 4.0.2.
Have you tried deleting the entry from the Downloads App?
Yeah, thats what i meant by deleting it from the phone. Thanks.
Have you tried clearing the data from the download manager and/or downloads? Apps>filter:all download manager/downloads and clear data. See if that works.

Thats what I was looking for. Thanks!
I think it works the same way as a pending download that wont go away. I normally just clear the cache in the settings than exit out the app and it clears on my notification bar.

My download notification of a gmail attachment is stuck. It neither downloads, not i am able to remove it. Not sure what the above technique meant. I went to applications -> gmail -> clear data and clear cache but the notification is still there. i use stock download manager and there is no option to clear cache of stock download manager.

Didnt get you.
Go to download manager in app drawer, select the document that stucks at downloading, press the trash icon, profit.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?

I am using Galaxy S2 by the way. There is this stock app called "Downloads" if thats what you mean by the download manager. There is no file shown here. So I cant trash it.

About Notification bar: is this a bug?

Hi guys, since I downloaded several wallpapers via chrome yesterday, I noticed that no matter how many times I cleared the "download complete" notifications, they would still appear again. Even just after I rebooted the device; and moreover, I also cleared the data of "download" and "chrome", they still appears anyhow!
Anyone has any idea what the problem is? Thanks in advanced.

I may just find the solution: I should clear the data of "download manager", not the "download". It seems ok now.

or you could just clear notifications and it will clear that
I had this same problem twice, but thought it was bug of ROM and installed another one :silly:
i had the same problem on 4.2. force stop and clear data of download manager in all apps did the job until i dloaded more files. turns out it was because i frooze download manager from starting up in system tuner app. i allowed it to start and problem was fixed.
however, touching the dloaded file from the notification bar does nothing. going into the download app and selecting the file leads me to ":/downloads/all_downloads does not exist" error. you actually have to go into root explorer or your file manager to open the file.
i do not like 4.2, at all. it's buggy as hell. i about to restore my 4.1.2 rom.
