Issue with partitioned sd cards - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone can help me. After going through several sd cards, thinking the phone was frying them from being overclocked, I've come to realize it's something with partitioning the card.
I was having a problem with not seeing the pictures I take when mounted to the laptop. After a fresh boot or whatever, the first set of pictures were fine. Then something would happen. After disconnecting and taking more pictures, when I would connect to the laptop this time, no pictures. I would disconnect and let the phone load the SD and I would check the gallery. The pictures were there just fine. I would connect back to the laptop and nothing.
After extensive testing, I found that if I just simply rebooted the phone, the second set of pictures would be show up. WTF.
This is the strangest thing I've ever come across. I don't like it when I can't figure things out for myself, lol. Please, if anyone can help, post your thoughts and/or solutions.
Thanks in advance

SD Card keeps becoming unavailable

Has anyone else come across the problem where the micro SD card seems to just stop being available to the phone? I'd say maybe once or so a day, anything that reads data from the SD card, such as the music app, stop working. If I try and play a song, it just hangs and does nothing.
I tried a search and somebody in the G1 forum had a similar problem but it didn't really contain any conclusions on what it is likely to be.
Anyone else had this issue? What is it most likely to be, the phone or card?
Thanks.
yeah I've had this occasionally with the camerea and seperately the 3d gallery software I installed.. have no idea why
Yea I've had that a couple of times actually. Just have to turn it off and on again and its ok, but its annoying.
Yeah, rebooting does sort it out, but it's starting to happen every day now, sometimes a couple times a day. If it's just a dodgy card or whatever I'd rather get T-Mobile to sort it sooner rather than later.
hmm a dodgy card.. included with the phone, that sucks
Backup your SD Card data and then try formatting it to see if that helps.
Cheers, will give that a go tomorrow. I might ring up T-Mob tomorrow anyway just to make them aware of the issue I'm having.
If I format it, will I be able to copy all the contents back on to it?

Yes, back it up to hard drive on your PC, then after you have formatted your SD card, copy back the contents from the hard drive to your Removable disk (SD card).
I've had this a few times Took the card out, reinserted and restarted the phone. Seemed to fix it, but it is annoying.
Sorry I can't remember when and how I know this.
But backup the card on your PC
Then format it in/with the phone and this should solve the problem I believe
I had killed one of my 16 GB card in Nexus one.
I found a problem that if i use Win 7 or Vista i must remove the device by using safely remove the USB device. Since now am doing this way i never had any problem.
Word of warning you could simply kill a card if you just remove a device.
My first thought was it has something to do with the USB connection. If you safely remove device in Windows - the phone 'prepares' the SD card.
I was having the same issue. I connected to the PC and mounted the SD card. I performed a disk check on the card and it found some errors which it then repaired. I then unmounted the card
I haven't had any issues since.
I formatted my card yesterday and haven't had any problems so far. thanks for the advice.
I ended up replacing the card. All of the previous advice didn't work for me or if it did it didn't last. I reckon there was a bit of a dodgy batch supplied by SanDisk.
~Since replacing I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever, it used to happen at least every 48hours. Very annoying when you try to take a photo and it tells you there's nowhere to save it.
I've been having problems too when taking pictures, which is really annoying!
And i'm not sure whether this is a related problem or not, but it could be...when trying to receive a file over bluetooth it sometimes says it doesn't have permission to receive the file or something along those lines, could this be the SD card playing up?
I'm on T Mobile, would they replace the SD card?
Not sure if it is the same reason, but I had all kinds of problems including the one you've described.
I'm on Orange, they told me that my SD card wasn't covered by Orange Care (the orange phone insurance). I said I didn't have Orange Care anyway and that surely it comes under the 12 months manufacturers warranty. They said pop it into the shop which is a bit of a drive and would cost me more than the value of a new card to get there.
At the time I wasn't certain it was the card as I didn't have a 2nd to try it with. Given my problem was very intermittent I decided the bother of going into the shop - it wasn't worth it for a £5 card. Now that I've bought a new one that works perfectly, I'm going to head into the shop with the old one next time I'm passing. The problem is I don't really need it replacing now! You could always lie and tell them you've tried your friends card at home for a couple of days and it worked perfectly?! No harm in trying.

Mhh - maybe I've had luck, but I use my over 1 year old 8gb cl6 card from magic/mt3g and never use that win function while unpluging anything (not while data transfer). So maybe depends on quality or manufacturer?
Sent from my HTC Desire
2-3 weeks since I've formatted my card and now I'm carefully unpluging my phone only when it's charging it hasn't happened ever since

I hate to say it, but it will happen again. Have card reader or other phone prepared, just in case your sd card stops working totally

[Q] Question - Photos not showing up when connected to PC

My problem might be a little odd, but im not really sure whats going on with it.
Basically when i take a photo, it shows up on my phone in the gallery and file mangers, but when connected to my PC with a USB, the photos dont show up.
I can get the images to appear on Windows after rebooting my phone, but i was wondering if there was another way to solve it.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks
i have exactly the same problem on my desire gsm with cm7 latest stable. if i take some photos they commonly show up on my sdcard. if i unplug it again to do some new photos, plug it back in and browse the sdcard the new taken pictures wont show up... does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
i think i read a thread on here the other day about this could be that ur sd card is cooked. search the forums its here somewhere sorry cant remember where. maybe try a different card
my card does this but it also isnt recognized in my pc anymore when it always was so im thinking its frazzled,

Exclamation Mark in Triangle for Pictures

Device: HTC Desire HD
Carrier: Telus
SD Card: 32GB
I have taken a lot of pictures, after a very short time frame this happens to them, they cannot be opened. I have also tried using the SD card in the computer.
I have reloaded the Android OS. Battery pull to restart and some other basic things.
Reformatted the card using my PC many times also
As you can see one picture still works but the rest do not. If I am missing any other relevant information please let me know. It's become a big hassle, and yes I have tried researching this many times before posting my own topic.
Thank you,
Ben
Have you tried another card? Might be a bad card and is not able to read/write to certain sectors.
I'll snap some random pictures tonight and check on them tomorrow with my only other card, a little 1GB lol, thanks, I was going to try this but was hoping it might of been a fix since its a 32GB and obv would like to use it.
Thanks again

[Q] Lost pictures and stuff when moved to SD Card

So the other day I moved some pictures and other stuff to my SD card to make some room on my phone. Well I lost all of the pics. I made a folder and the folder is there but nothing is in it. I assume I will never get the pictures back but why is this? I had a ton of pictures, some I don't care about the others I do.
Any way to hopefully get them back? I didn't delete them, simply moved them. At least that is what I thought. What can I do to not let this happen again?
Have you tried viewing the SD Card on the PC ? Also for next time, there are several options. You can backup your pictures to Cloud storage, or simply copy them to your Laptop / Desktop. Some work via WiFi so you do not even have to hook up to USB.

If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

SD Card not being recognised

Hi all,
Euro LG H815 running V10b.
I have two good SD cards here - one is FAT32 and has a ton of media on it and one is FAT with just a text file on it to test with. Both show on a PC and both mount fine on a Galaxy S3 and operate well, however neither are showing on my G4. I literally have the SD details greyed out within the storage settings on the phone's menu. No amount of inserting/removing/reinserting and rebooting appears to have any effect.
I'm away on holiday at the moment so not much I can do, but before I try a hard reset and consider sending it back to LG when I return home, is there anything glaringly obvious I'm missing or anything I can try?
I have no apps disabled, not rooted and running all stock.
Thanks.
Has the phone ever recognized an SD card, or is this something that has changed? The cards are facing in the correct direction, are fully inserted, etc?
Hi mate - thanks for the reply.
Yeah, when I first got the phone a few weeks ago I gave the SD card a whirl and was pleased to see it presented well in the settings and all the media played with no issues. I tried it just that once and until today, haven't tried since.
I'm placing it in pins down with the branding/lettering facing up. I have just had the port under a light and magnifying ring and as expected, all pins are fine.
Completed a hard reset, still no SD card.
I have not seen that, sorry. I don't have any suggestions except to contact LG. Hopefully someone else will have some insight. Good luck.
Thanks. I think it's going to be a return.
