Hey guys, is there any application out there that can mute the startup tone for the HTC Desire HD phone? Where the "quietly brilliant" startup, there is this startup tone that I want to mute it. Is there any ways I can do it?
I'm on stock.
Yes if you are rooted you can just delete /system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3
You can't do anything except mute the phone before turning it off if you don't root.

Do what? Delete the file? Root Explorer is best for that. You can also do it via adb but that's a bit harder to figure out.

As in, application to mute the sound when starting the phone.

No, the app would need root access.

I'm not rooted so unable to use the application to delete the sound. Reason being, my phone nowadays will auto reboot, and it happened in a meeting so I got really embarrassed by that.
I am not sure but i think when the phone is in Silent/vibration mode, the startup sound is not there.
Will check it myself.

I travel on the train a lot and hate having blaring phones going off, so have my phone almost constantly on "Vibration only" and have also set the "Media Volume" to zero in case of accidentally starting something up that blurts out sound, and after having to reboot occasionally when things have stopped responding (has only happened once or twice) I've found that the startup sound is silent too...
Not sure if it's the Media Volume or Ring Volume setting that causes this, whichever way it's good for me!
Odd, i dont have any startup sound on mine, it'll just vibrate once when the initial Pinky/red circle comes up.
I've not changed any settings, its always been like that

I don't know what rom you have but I have the generic one (I think) and when booting I get a HTC and "quietly brilliant" logo and a loud HTC chime... no pinky/red circle to be seen?

yep same here on T Mobile Better than my last device (Nokia N96) which had both a noisy Nokia logo then a T Mobile one.

Maybe they're referring to the audio quality of the built in speaker, which is frankly pathetic!
The pinky/red circle is the default boot image on the T-Mobile ROM.
As stated above, it has no boot sound and how I miss the silence!
I switched from that ROM to the HTC one early last week. On first boot (very late at night) the quietly brilliant animation appeared.... I.was relieved to have a successful flash.... then... OMG! the sound was so loud my cat jumped!
Hopefully when Paul at MoDaCo roots us we can overwrite it and have silence again
If you turn off the phone having silent mode enabled / turned the volume down, it should not play that sound (aloud) when booting.
Theres an app for that, but not yet in the market afaik.

Search the market for "Silent Boot".
I wrote an app that mutes your phone automatically on shutdown and restores previous settings after startup.
Works fine on my HTC.
mine still plays the loud sound even with headphones plugged in!

THANK YOU!
I just remember to put it under a pillow when I turn it on now
It has done it for a while with any ROM, the screen backlight will go on, and the button lights will go on but the screen picture doesn't show half the time when I unlock it. I can still touch the screen though and it works, but obviously I can't see what I'm doing! This is frustrating and could be terrible in an emergency... What should I do?
Also, when my headphones are in, and the phone detects it as a headset, it will spasm out by turning on voice search, and ringing people repeatedly until I unplug them, it also changes song too on any music app. Any way round this one too?
Thanks

Which rom are you using, custom or stock...We will need more details as it can be a setup issue...
Using LeeDroid, but its done the same with Android Revolution and I think MIUI too. I think it could be something to do with the CRT animation but I'm not 100% sure
Edit: I have turned off the animation and the problem is still there

it will do it on home screen or any screen as long as the screen is turned on and the phone shakes it will make that sound.. i just went through all the audio folders under system media and can't find that sound any where..

I'm having exactly the same problem, except I have an HTC Desire HD and it only started about a week ago. Have gone through all my files on my phone and can't find the sound anywhere, really starting to annoy me as well. Given the problem seems to be across manufacturers I am guessing it must be an app or something that has a bug. PM me if you want to compare what apps are on our phones and see if we can narrow down what might be causing it.

So, i got some good advise from one of the developers of the rom im using. his suggestion was to not install any of the samsung apps that come pre loaded on the phone. so i reflashed the rom i was using and chose not to install any of the samsung apps and guess what? it stopped. no more annoying sounds when im walking down the hall at work. but like you were suggesting it has to be app related but i couldn't for the life of me pinpoint which one it was. hopefully that will help you a little and give you some direction.
Anyone come up with a volume hack for headphones? On the g2 you could edit the mixerpaths file. Im rooted without twrp and tried that and got stuck in a nice bootloop and had to push the stock rom thru adb to get back up. Once i get twrp i can run thru some settings. Just wondering if anyone else is bummed out by this low volume.
I can say my phone don't need volume boost. Phone sounds great. Have to turn it down. Sounds way better than note 3
The speaker is fine. Although I wish it could go up by one or two when I'm listening through headphones.

I had a chance to play YouTube on G3 through speaker.
The speaker is nice if it's not louder than S3.

Partially hijacking this thread, but does anybody know if there's a hidden way to disable the safe volume warning every time I plug in my headset? This is the most annoying thing on this phone, especially if I do a quick travel to n from lunch and work, I have to keep pressing the volume button again n again. I know most likely it's baked into the ROM, but maybe someone knows something.
OP, you sure this is not the problem you're facing? At first I thought I had gone all the way on the volume, but I realized I had to press it again to boost the volume to the max.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
1. Download & extract the version for android 4.4, then install it
2. Open Viper4Android, choose quality, let it install the special driver and allow root. You may need to update busybox, it will prompt you if necessary.
3. Reboot
4. Open V4A, press the 3 dots at top right, change UI to "Moderate"
5. Swipe to "Headphone" tab, enable master power & playback gain control, scroll to bottom of page, change output gain to +0.8 or +1.6

I tried the V4A version and I must say it did make a bit of a difference in sound boost but one of the main things I use the headphones for at times is making phone calls. When I tried to make a call the volume of the call still sounded low. Is anyone else experiencing this? I have Sirius radio installed and you tube and sound on both definitely improved a bit. I wanted to try the other method by modifiying the path files but I heard some issues causing boot loops and it pretty much scared me away. I'm also still trying to figure out how to install TWRP on my LG G3 since I rooted it manually, I can't figure out how to get it on my device. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Finaly got TWRP on my device.
It's not a problem with the phones volume control but with your hearing ability.
I had hearing tests done last year at the clinic and they said I had very good sense of hearing... kind of a weird thing. Anyways, I can get it to about 75% volume and it's extremely loud. Any more than that is painful.

I can't find how to turn off the loud ringtone that happens whenever powering on or rebooting the phone. Just got the phone today from HTC USA unlocked, and updated it to 7.0. Usually you can shut off this sound. Love this phone so far. Thanks
My experience is you can usually disable the sound on custom roms either during the aroma installation or by removing the audio file / renaming it (which you can do with root access even on a stock rom).
Never known it to be an option on HTC phones though ... or one that is a problem for someone. How often do you turn your phone off and on?

Thanks, I don't power on the phone often but I'm worried I'll do it in some quiet place, like a classical concert. You're right, I should forget about it and just be careful. The phone is stock with no mods.

If you turn the Ringtone volume down, the boot up sound will be quieter, is one thing I've noticed. Possibly even silent if you just use vibrate.

Good idea.
There's an app on the Play store called Silent Boot. It does what it says just fine with Marshmallow. No clue if it still works on Nougat though...
Cool, I'll check it out.
Confirming that unfortunately Silent Boot doesn't work on the latest Android 7.0 update for HTC 10. Kinda want to return it... or go down the mod path. Halp.
Got Nougat OTA update, Silent Boot still does the trick after that.
