[Q] Is there a HOWTO for building kernel from source? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What it says on the tin. I'm wondering if there are instructions anywhere for compiling a 2.3 CM7 kernel in an Ubuntu environment. I've tried to follow some instructions I've googled without avail so I'm asking if anyone knows of an updated guide that includes which tools I'll need to grab as well.

[Request] Stock N2E Kernel

Hi, could someone upload the stock N2E kernel? I would like to tinker around with building my own kernel but I cannot figure out how to extract it from a running N2E.
P.S. I've already tried /proc/config.gz and /boot/config-...blah blah and have had no luck.
The source code is available here :
NOOK 1.0 OSS Release
NOOK 1.0.1 OSS Release
One of my frustrations with rooting my nook is I do not ahve a clean rom in case I need to return it to B&N. Is there anyway I could use source code to load a clean rom and undo the rooting?

[Q] Compiling Kernel

I'm trying to compile a kernel for my Epic 4G. I can compile it then package it per the read-me in Samsung's tar file but, once i flash it with Odin i reboot the phone. Then the Samsung logo appears, then goes away and does it again. seems like it cant find the root FS. I'm using EXT4 and i compiled the drivers in. I have experience compiling Linux kernels. But this has me stumped. Any help would be appreciated. Also any tutorials would be helpful. Just trying to learn.

What source are you using? What rom (froyo/gingerbread)? Don't bump your own thread. Maybe visit the irc? irc.irondust.net

I'm using the froyo EC05 source. I want to use GB but the GPS still does not work too well.
Froyo is dead, and I never got a chance to use it.

Building CM10 question

Hello all,
I'm trying to build CM10 on my Ubuntu 12.04 machine. I've built CM7 before, but this is my first attempt at a post-gingerbread build.
I've mainly been following the instructions for CM9 from the CM wiki, but I was curious about the proprietaries. Google just posted updated ones for the toro, but I couldn't tell if I need to do anything different (from the instructions) to get them.

Flashable kernel zips

I've been looking around and can't seem to find any. I wanted to try to use Hashcode's kernel with the SGT7 ROM but I don't see any way that would be possible.
You need a custom recovery first. I'd advise you to read the FAQ sticky listed in this forum, it should help get you started. And whenever you're ready to download that rom, the links to the zips are in the development thread associated with the ROM you'd want to flash.
I think they already have one. Fortunately the SGT7 rom uses hashcode's kernel. Unfortunately, you are talking about the 3.4.y, that is highly experimental and Hash only wants the more experienced people to mess with it, so as of now there is no flashable kernel for 3.4.y. If you are talking about the current 3.0 kernel then im also afraid you are out of luck on that too. There isnt one.

[Q] How to compile a 4.4 rom

I'd like to learn to compile a kitkat rom but I didn't find any guides or tips (i have no previous knowledge on how to build a rom) so I wonder if there's any guide for that.
Thanks
If you're trying to build CM from official source, CM's wiki has quite the resource for that, teaches you step by step from setting up your Linux environment to making the final bacon. I haven't built other ROMs yet, but steps should be similar.

Actually I plan on building something closer to stock android with very few custom features but I don't know how to do that yet. I'll try to build CM to get the gist of it,
