Ive switched from a rooted eris to my wifes old incredible. I really miss root but the usb Port on the incredible is trashed. Any way to one click root without having the phone connected to a comp?

I'm 99% sure the only was is to use unrevoked.com which needs a computer.

There's a few one click root apps that claim they work on all droids. Give one a try.
Try visionary
Then use rom.manager to flash a recovery and use unrevoked forever to get s off

UnrEVOked requires USB still does it not?
How are you charging? Do you alternate two batteries in a charger then switch them?
There's some videos on youtube and also a site that sells parts for the incredible (sorry, can't find it today), like display & digitizer, that clearly show removing all parts (major assemblies) from the dinc. I think it might be possible to kludge a new usb port from wherever the traces met the old one.
Were pins broken off, or gum shoved in or worse? Just curious. I'd be trying to rip it apart to fix it
I'll look for the site that had the parts and let you know if you're interested. Found it once, so must be able to find it again. Displays were cheaper than I'd have thought.
Thanks for the help, yeah i just alternate batteries. Got an extended battery so im not switching out every five minutes. Ill take a look for replacement parts, but if you find a link that would be great. Basically the pins just got mashed in

Unrevoked forever is just a flash zip once you get a.custom.recovery
So there needs to be a way to transfer the zip to the SD, other than that it should work
I have no idea tho, but it seems plausible
Sent from my Incredible using XDA Premium App
So if i could figure out how to get a custom recovery, i could just copy the unrevoked zip file to my sd card by taking it out of my phone and plugging into my comp

Cool. OEM HTC Verizon Droid Incredible Charging Port seems like the thing to get when it's back in stock. I think any of the microUSB on-board sockets could be hacked to fit but if they've got this one here, seems like a go.
Thanks -
This may be a stupid question, but do you think these are "snap in"parts or do i need to bust out the soldering iron?

It's for the EVO but I'm sure it's all similar enough. I can't really imagine that the USB port isn't soldered but I've not taken mine apart. You could contact that guy that put up the youtube video and ask him for details.
It sounds fairly doable given a fine point soldering iron and some time. He makes it sound like the combination of poor battery life , multiple usages all the time of the USB port will eventually cause it to separate from the main-board, so maybe this thing is actually reusable. I don't know how or where it separates.

Hey, well i've had my evo for awhile now, up until about a month ago, it would connect to the computer with no problem. Now when i plug it up it just charges, the usb icon doesn't pop up in the corner. In the settings connect to pc, Ask me is check and default is disk drive, and i've tryed charge only as well. I have no clue why it stopped connecting to the computer and just charges. Any suggestions or thoughts?

WiFi file explorer won't fix your problem but will let you transfer files back and forth over WiFi. My Ian port has been messed up for awhile this has been my fix.
Swyped from my Orange Peeled Synergist EVO
I have been experiencing this very issue for almost a month now. Hard, reset, reinstalled drivers, done it all but to no avail. (wife's Evo connects with ease; Win7 sp1)
Been thinking that the usb por is broken - but I can still charge. I can adb and transfer over wi-fi. Only thing wish I could do wirelessly was qpst.
Anyway, I am happy just as long as I can charge the evo. If that changes, then I will get a repair done for $40.
Hope this really isn't the case.
Most likely is a busted usb port, same thing happened to one of the evo's I worked with. Charging fine but will not get discovered by any computers(tried multiple computers with multiple usb cables), but when pushing the cable into the port all my force windows recognized the phone but gave an error for "unknown device", had to actually get another usb port and repair it myself (better than paying $100), drivers definitely not the case here
Thanks everyone! Just gonna go pay 100$ for a new one. I was really wanting to root so if I can't without it being hooked to a computer might as well get a new one.

Why would you pay $100?
If you pay the $8 take it to the Sprint store and they'll look at it.
The $100 is for physical/water damage or lost/stolen phone.
Reboot your phone and go to running services and make sure calendar sync is still running. I don't know why but if you stop that from running it won't connect to your P.C.
I have something running called calendar, but can't find calendar sync? Same thing or?

I understand, it's physically damaged so they won't replace it without you paying the deductible.
You can always get an external charger and extra battery and just switch out instead of charging. If you need to transfer something you can use a card reader or an app to do it over wifi. There are a couple of things that you can't do, like root, but otherwise the phone would be usable.
It depends if you think the $100 deductible is worth it.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
@matty-its all good
@plain-I had thought about that...so for the EVO there is absolutely no way of rooting it unless u connect it through usb (i remember using a couple of 1 click apps for my cdma hero)
Sent from my BAD @$$ EVO using XDA app.
you can purchase the needed USB port hardware online at placed like digikey, mouser, and newark.
depending on how good your soldering skills are, that port can be replaced if you do not wish to pay the 100 deductible.
Imho I would just make the chain and save you the hassle of damaging the phone even more if you try to solder it yourself unless your good and you know what your doing.. Just my two cents hope it helps

I have had my evo for about 6 months. About a month ago I noticed none of my computers were able to recognize my phone any longer. I decided to just use FTP for transferring files. the other day however, my wall charger stopped working. I now have to wiggle it around until its in just the right spot to charge. My phone is rooted with custom rom etc. What should I do about this? Take it to sprint or mail it to HTC?
This is not damage from anything I have done, so I really don't want to pay $100
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Either place you'll get a refurb.
Good thing about htc is that youll get your housing back, just a new board. You can either throw a stockish rom on there or unroot it. Its a matter of opinion on which should be done.

Will both charge me 100$ most likely? A friend told me HTC might not charge me.
I can just flash a stock rom without having to unroot? I also have a custom bootsplash.

Same problem, seems to happen to quite a few people. I don't feel like wasting my time sending it in, and just use a wall battery charger, along with 2 Anker 1700 batteries, so I always have one charged at all times, its easy to switch the new when when needed. I like it much better than having to have the phone connected to a charger, I never worry about that now. Two Anker 1700, and two stock OEM batteries, and Ankers seem to get quite a few more hours of life, amazing boost for such a cheap price for two batteries and a external battery wall charger.
What would be the easiest way to unroot in your opinion? I don't remember the method I used to get root.
That's a great idea about the batteries and external charger. I will definitely keep that as an option. Thanks.

Your unroot method depends on the method you used to root. If you go to the bootloader and it says revolutionary at the top and you have hboot 6.16 then you s-offed with revolutionary. If you have s-off with hboot 2.16 or lower you used unrevoked

It looks like I used unrevoked as my hboot is lower than 2.16. Should I follow this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151733
Or is their a more up to date method?
I had the same issue. I went with the spare battery and wall charger route myself. seemed easier than unrooting and using insurance. being this way for 6 months now, and its really not an inconvenience. just gotta change the battery once a day.

Yeah just download and flash the s on tool zip in recovery and download the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sd card and then boot into the bootloader and let it update that PC36IMG.zip
Reboot and then power off and back on while holding volume down and check to make sure your s on. That should be it.

I agree just getting a replacement phone is the way to go, but I need to make sure I did not lose anything on the internal storage of my wifes broken phone. I have all photos backed up to dropbox, but I just need to make sure. Also, the used phone I replaced her broken phone with has a little bit of a beaten up trim around the screen but screen is fine.
When I connect with USB I do not see any drives and Kies says that the phone needs to have USB debugging enabled, which I could have sworn I did on her phone. I had her phone running on Calks 3.0 GB ROM and it was rooted so pretty sure I did it but who knows.
Any tutorials on how to access the internal storage in my situation? If I could do that then no need to replace screen.
Thanks
I may take up that offer to replace for $100, not a bad option at all.

So a few days ago my 2 month old s3 stopped charging, but only with Samsung chargers. I have tried 3 different ones so far. It seems to charge just fine with any other charger, htc, Motorola, ect. I used an air gun and cleaned out the charging port, but to no avail. I am stock except rooted. Haven't really installed anything recently. My question, do I bother sending it in for repair, or should I live with it? I don't want to have to unroot and backup everything to send it in if its only going to do it again in a few months. Might be the USB port.... in which case you should ask for a replacement phone.
Don't bother with all the drama. It's an easy fix. Go on ebay, find an s3 charging port and replace it yourself. You just remove the battery, unscrew the back panel, and then port just snaps on and off. Take it off and snap the new one in place.
And I'd make a nandroid and then flash a custom rom.. See if it's software related.. If not, that means it's hardware.. But if you really want, talk to sprint, they have to give you a new one if manufacturer defect like that.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Sounds pretty easy to fix. Not sure if I want to void the warranty yet though.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
You wouldn't be voiding the warranty I don't think. Not to mention there's no way for them to know. Where the port is located, doesn't have any warranty seals or anything. I don't think any of the phone does besides maybe along the antenna. Check out some YouTube videos and you'll see how simple it is. No saudering drama. Just simple clip on and off kinda like a button

I have a similar problem: I have the same model phone, and I found that I can only charge using a data cord, not a generic charging cord. I can't imagine the reason, but I have found that unless a charger utilizes a true data cord, charging won't happen.
