Honeycomb MDPI framework - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Themes and Apps

Fisha may be the only other person interested in this (at the moment) but I came across this link when I was trying to find ways to avoid working: http://www.simply-android.com/discussion/963/app-framework-res.apk-from-honeycomb-ported-to-mpdi-/p1
I took a quick glance at it and didn't see anything noteworthy, but maybe someone else wants to do something with it. If nothing else, the thought of getting some MDPI themes out for the newly rooted Xoom could make things easier for us Archos fellows.

Thanks for the link, will take a look too - was looking for something else to mis-spend my time on.....

searchfunction ftw
*bump*
Rly would like to have a honeycombed framework-res for my 101.
Anyone knows a metamorph working for us or begun on creating a framework-res?

[Theme] xda-developers.com Group Theme Idea.. Please READ!

I know theres a theme suggestion thread sticked up on the forums, but I think this should posted here so it could get noticed more and get more feed back from everyone, because personally I dont think that thread get much attention base on the fact that I posted up my "Got Wood?" theme 2 days ago and it already has just as much views as the request thread. If not, then move it, its understood.
Ok, here is my "xda-dev" theme idea. (Nabzilla1990, this is no way of me trying to step over your theme, as seen as you already have a "community hero mix".
The whole purpose of this project/theme is to expand the selection of themes, but most importantly is to have fun with this project. Id like to see how a theme would come out looking if all theme developers joined together and created one theme from scratch. The way it would start is like this: (and this is just an example)
Let's say I started off, and I designed the application launcher tab. Once I'm done designing that, I'd post it up here on xda and someone else would call "next" and design lets say a wallpaper. Then once the wallpaper is done, the theme gets updated and posted again, and then someone else would call "next" and design the notification bar or whatever they want to do next. We'd keep doing this until we get a decent looking theme and we're all happy with it and then release itto the public.
I personally think this can turn out to be a great project/theme if everyone contributes. If anyone has any more ideas, suggestions on how we can improve the whole process of this project ,feel free to post up your reply.
i think this would actually be a great idea and a fun project, but who ever starts it should do the wallpaper so it can be easier to design everything else around it.
let me know what i can do and i will happily help out with this. if nothing else i am good for progress circles and bars colors
As long as every element works together it should be great. Especially if lets say someone could touch up pieces that someone else designed, and the community would then decide wether they like the changes.
Just some suggestions.
Im down! Count me in
Let me know if you guys need help with .xml edits.
im down to help too!
I'm not the best at making these things from scratch, but I think a great place to start with be to ask manup is he can make an XDA wallpaper similar to his xROM; and have one in white and one black (maybe even a bronze). That'll give users and devs options.
Maybe I can find some icons later on in the project or something.

creating a theme

maybe this is out of my league...
but is it pretty much as easy as extracting the images, changing there colours (maybe using photoshop??) and then re packaging and updating my hero?
if its not too much harder could someone point me towards a guide, or if im smack on, lead me to the apk i have to extract? theres no "sense" apk and i did not find any images in the rosie apk!
i would really appreciate this, thanks in advance
im jus using winrar to extract the apk's, so far i have found alot of the images but i havnt come across any that id like to change
edit #2
ok so i was looking through and have started to figure out how they sorted all there files... but i was wondering if there was like universal png's somewhere? cuz it seems like every apk has its own black bar at the top (for the pull down tray)
maybe this is in the wrong forum?
try looking in the themes thread, i am sure I saw a guide to creating themes somewhere...
take a look at the Dream/Magic/Sapphire boards there are several threads about this

should help

[Q] Can someone port this?

Hi.
I hope it is the right place to post this.
I was hoping someone could port this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574139
For the Desire or make a theme copying the style. Mostly opendesire or Defrost.
I really like the Buuf style as I use it in ubuntu and ADW launcher. But I lack the skills and the knowledge to make a theme or port it.
(I don't know which image files does what...)
Thanks in advance. And I hope you can help me.
-Simon
No one. no
Well if someone could atleast point to a tutorial on what which picture file does what I guess I will see if I can do it myself. (And maybe a little on how it works. I have ubuntu.)
Hi
Unfortunatley you aren't going to get much advise on this here, I too like a theme but it is not for my phone it's for T-Mobile Pulse.
I too wanted my theme ported as I do not have the skills, I'm fine with photoshop but its knowing which images and xml code need changing. Also photoshop PSD template would be great.
But I guess there are no tutorial or anyone willing to create one. I'm doing my own research but haven't yet found anything useful. i'll let you know if I get anywhere.
Good Luck mate but I think we are on our own with this one
Thanks for answering. And think you are right about the "on our own" part. I guess I'll have to find a tutorial on which files to edit and then make my own theme. If you find anything. Could you please give me a PM?
Sent from something using the internet.
Just thought I'd let you know that I managed to port the theme I wanted, not too bad but is not perfect stills some issues.
Shame there are no PSD templates. please see thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7730046#post7730046
The problem is that theme is ugly and childlike no offence but it is.
This puts people off porting themes as there will be only one or two people that will actually like it and use it. What rom are you currently using? I may have a go at porting it tomorrow when i have some spare time. Not sure how much of it i would be able to do. I'm new to all this stuff too!
Lol.
I know It's childish. But so am I
I am shifting between defrost 2.9a, opendesire 3.3.0 and cyanogenmod rc2.
So if you have time, you can deside.

Rom Development / Modding How to get started?

Hey everybody,
I recently bought the galaxy nexus because I wanted to start getting into Rom Development.
I can programm Java and also programmed some simple apps..
But what I really wanted to do is to modify a Rom.
Can anybody tell me where to start? I read guides on how to compile from source and so on, but I don't know if that's what I need.
I want to add things like Notification bar quick settings to the rom.. Are there tutorials on how to develop these things?
Every help is appreciated, maybe you've got some great links for me, thanks!

start with decompiling apks (SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk for example) , if u've wrote android apps before (and u said u did), then it shouldn't be that hard to look into the .xml and .jar files. when u finish, compile the .apk back. if u've worked with Eclipse then u probably know the android structure.
Edit: Here is an example of a "ROM modification" - just posting it to give u an example..
Well first thing is first. You need to have the bare basics of Android thoroughly understood obviously. Often overlooked as a first step in this process, just learning about(different than knowing about)the Android Open Source Project first will give you a specific sense of direction, purpose, as well as an identity in the community..
So again- I don't just mean knowing about it- I mean knowing exactlyhow the whole project is structured. Read about all the different types of contributions you/anyone can make to the Android ecosystem. Are you an aesthetics kind of person who would excel at UI designs for apps or whatever; Are you a person who has a good eye for problem solving? Maybe you should be scouring source code, trying to fix little-noticed "bugs" that "bug" the hell out of you. Once you know what you want to do, make sure you find out exactly how much Google provides for you, and what your own roles/responsibilities would be in the whole scheme of things.) This should give you a good idea of where you might fit in (with your current skill-set)and hopefully, it gives you some inspiration about the direction you might want to take it in the future.
Once you do this and "find your calling", post back here, and I'm sure that others qualified in that field will be more than happy to share how they got started.
There is no substitute to just jumping in and trying things though. Everybody makes their own journey differently, so do what comes naturally, and you can't go wrong.

and maybe this as well?

Wow thank you every body for these great comments! I think I'll compile a Rom from source first and look through all the files..
Decompiling apks looks interesting too.
Thanks for the fast responses & links, you're awesome!
Okay so I've got another question..
One thing I always liked on some custom roms was the lockscreen flashlight..
If I would hold power for 3 seconds, the flashlight would turn on until I let go the power button.
I decompiled the framework-res.apk but didn't find anything there, just .xml files.
Where are the files where I can actually code / programm something for the lockscreen?
Try android.policy.jar
Usually the jar files contain the code, xml are for visual stuff.
But my question is, are u sure it is a lockscreen feature? (I mean the torch option) . Tbh this is the first time i hear of such a mod and i've been using android devices for over 2 yrs

IconSets

UPDATE - thanks to kwerdenker pointing me in the right direction I stumbled upon this post which is amazingly helpful for anyone else interested!
https://plus.google.com/u/0/+LutzLinke/posts/TNhQ4ypuurw
-------------------------------------------------
I'm trying to add a custom iconset I made to a paid theme of mine. As posted by a couple other people there are apparently some issues with this that no one can figure out. Well I am making this post to hopefully find people who are willing to help me squash this. As an independent themer with limited time this frustrates the piss out of me. I also have Go Locker themes that no one can every help me with my issues and it drives me crazy... anyway back to Zooper. This is my post from G+
having problems with my apk when I build it since I added my custom iconset. can anyone give me any insight on this?
currently it's in
assets/iconset/whatever/whatever/config.xml.jet with the font in there also whatever.ttf.jet
this is how it's exported in the apk templete from the app itself though and thats the only thing not working, is the iconset.
so to recap, the app install, loads, and works minus my icons from the custom iconset.
I'm lost.
I also tried removing all the .jet extensions like someone suggested and it didn't fix it...
the name of the iconset shows up and everything. just no preview image. it was like that when it was .jet too.
tried taking away all the .jet extensions everywhere too... no luck
trying to build using Android Studio if that matters
so far I tried taking out one of the folders so it was just
/assets/iconsets/whatever/config.xml & the font and that got letters to show up at least, just not from my font.
I also tried putting the zip file in there so it was
/assets/iconsets/whatever.zip
no luck either way... anyone else care to chime in or have any other ideas?

Font-based icon sets are broken in Zooper APKs. This has been a known problem for a long time and there have been some attempts to fix this issue but those were by users most of the time (here is one good example: https://plus.google.com/u/0/106201536507820539535/posts/dY1vras522H). The devs haven't responded to this for a while now. Might be they are working on it, might also be that theme APKs are not a priority anymore since the buyout through Themer. Hard to tell since the communication with the developers has stopped almost entirely.

Thank you so much for this information. It's sad to see one of the best customization apps on Android lose support like that but not surprising. So... are we able to create Themer themes? I can't imagine them being much different than their Zooper counterpart.
