although you can torrent legal things too, we don't even have a file extracter yet so this is kind of far ahead.

There two torrent controller apps, but nothing where you download a torret on your phone.

Thank you... guess we will have to wait a while then... you are right, no zip/rar apps yet... lol

Sharing files via torrents

We have all had to sit and wait for ungodly download speeds for some of these roms and other things. Sometimes the download links are broken. And no one likes dealing with those download sites like mega upload.
Why don't we, as a community, run torrents for all of these things?
I almost always have a computer running torrents, and I have a seedbox at work. I would be more than happy to run torrents for the different files we have around here - Roms, kernels, themes, other patches, etc.
I searched around and couldn't find anything about using torrents as a community, but I think it would be a good addition. Are there any drawbacks that I'm just not aware of?

Thanks, greenboy.
I'll get some of the roms up on torrents tonight, and maybe we can get this going!

Sign me up, I'll offer to seed indefinitely, laptop runs 24/7, normally run an upload limit of 500kb/s on uTorrent in background.

I seeded a couple in the past in the Thunderbolt forum and only like 2 people even used them. I would ask the devs first that way they can link your torrent file in their threads.
That is probably a good idea. Those files will be paused until I get permission from the devs.
please do not host/mirror any of those files without the DEV consent
and even if you do get the DEV consent, the DEV him/herself should seed their own files only, using any of the publicly available torrent sites

Let me first say i am NOT trying to ruffle any feathers, just an honest question.
Why would it matter who ends up seeding them if given developer consent?
it's just the way how things are run in XDA, DEVs wants to have control over their own files, in case of crap happens
we do however allow recognize DEV's little helper if he/she publicly announces one

I suppose this could be the problem with torrents, once it's seeded by one and spread it always has potential to be seeding by anyone. Suppose 'Jon' links 'Tom' the torrent, Tom isnt too familiar so Jon installs the ROM for him but Tom never stops seeding. It's out of anyones control at that point.
Regardless, I understand you're point.

If it's originally hosted by the dev then just seeded by others this isn't a concern, the only concern would be hosted by nonames.

Exactly. If the dev originally seeds it, malware is not a concern.

I don´t see any link to warez. He is just asking why its not on market so where is the reason for a ban?

it's not on the market for our device, cause TT is too stupid to put it for our device!!!
I can say, tomtom is a really crappy app on android, you get in your gallary all that pictures from tomtom... cars, maps, etc... the app itself is really slow, lags, crashes, and have a very ugly design...
Only tomtom maps, are really good, but anyway, try copilot, and you will see how a good app must be... its far far far better...
Cheers

Its a paid for app any attempt at getting such free is Warez and that was the impression given by search the web .Instead of go to TT site pay for it and download it .
As its not a blatant Warez post in this case i have not reported .
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, then pay for it. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained. This is a site of developers, i.e. the sort of people who create such software. When you cheat a software developer, you cheat us as a community
