now I know the loose hinge problem has been beaten senseless, but I'm asking this: who's screen has a slight wiggle? or a wobble? Looks like it is slightly loose on the metal hinges. Like the screen inself does not sit flush against the base of the phone and has a small, gap? I just wanted to make sure I'm not the only one...and maybe I'm jjust venting. Haha!

Mine do -- I aint worried about it.
Only have had mine for a bit over a month but hasn't happened to me yet.

Mine has a little bit of wobble with or without a case on the phone. It's only annoying when I'm tapping on the display.
I don't know if that's truly normal or not. Even if the hinges get loose from everyday use, I don't think the screen itself would act like that. So that's why I actually exchanged a G2 for that same "defect." My current one, of about one and a half months now, does not have the wobbly screen. I simply could not stand touching the screen and having the screen move with my fingers.

My first phone didn't do that, but I got a brand new in box replacement that does. Also, my wife's phone doesn't do it.
My newer one also has a slight creek sound sometimes when it rocks in portrait.
No biggy though. Like a computer with a noisy chair, I deal with it.

I think the shakiness of the screen is from dropping the phone, slightly or not slightly. even from a slight drop I think it would make the screen a little shaky just because its so thin.

My phone has never been dropped and it has this "problem". It also creaks a little when opening probably from dust build-up

Had mine for a few months now. The loose hinge is a VERY minor inconvenience, but the loose screen hasn't happened to me yet.
Weird, no loose hinge or screen here.....no creaks either. Dropped it twice on carpet though......
I dropped my phone from about 4ft high and it landed on concrete. Amazingly the phone is fine including the hinge.
And yes my hinge is loose but I knew about the issue before I purchased the phone. I really like the phone otherwise so I just deal with it.
Phone works like a charm.. preordered and have had it since 4 days it was released in stores.. shipped early. Whoot whoot.. dropped it from my pocket in the theater to the floor.. other than that never been dropped on anything hard. No hinge issue I would complain about.

My hinge is loose also, but the rocking seems to come from the loose hinge. Least, thats where it seems to be on my handset.
Need to get around to replacing the spring.......
Mine had a bit of a wobble too. I cut up a screen protector and put it in the corner underneath the screen (the part that is over the keyboard when the phone is closed) and it hasn't wobbled since.

Could you possibly take a photo of how you did that?
I don't know what the hell happened to my phone, but it now makes this wobbling/clicking sound when I press the display on the left side. It's very annoying when I do anything with the screen. Not sure what to do to fix it, besides giving your fix a try.
Any other suggestions on how to get rid of the wobbling display?
I know this is kind of late, but I know ive got the same pproblem as you. Just like others. Its the wobbling of the screen that drives me nuTs. The screen protecter would be a great idea but I would like further instruction on how to do so?

Sorry guys, completely forgot about this thread. I'll have some photos up in a bit.
Until then, I'll try to explain it better.
If you look at your phone's back, then open up the keyboard about half way you'll see a rubber strip. I just cut pieces of a screen protector roughly that size, then stacked them on the rubber strip until it didn't wobble as much. I shouldn't say it's 100% wobble free, but it is extremely close.

Also, i asked my SRSS, and he confirmed that since it's a new SKU, the 60 day rule applies...and then proceeded to inform me that so long as we got the return box sealed on Sunday, auditors won't be able to see it on Monday lol.

are you asking where to get a screen, or how to replace the screen?
As far as where, you'll have to do some searching around. Sprint techs like us have the luxury of harvesting screens off returned phones (normally used for repairs)...but epic screens are generally so far and few between i doubt you'd find a tech willing to sell one to you.
If you're asking how, that's easy. Unscrew the six screws underneath the battery cover. Then using a really thin piece of plastic or even your fingernails, begin to pry the area where the bezel meets the glass down both sides and the top (the bezel-back-frame almost fits like a cap on the screen). Then just lift the bezel-frame from the screen in an out then down motion (basically, the top separates first, then you'll have to go down and out to get the bottom part off; you don't want to pry the bottom part straight out so as not to damage the charging port). During this, you'll likely see your headset jack move with the frame, that's ok because it moves pretty freely inside.
Once inside, you'll see two flat Phillips head screws, unscrew those. You won't need to unscrew the third tiny one in the upper right hand corner. There are several cables (3 or 4) that are plugged into ports, just unplug them, nothing fancy. Just make sure you look closely so you don't miss one. Then, the motherboard (which is roughly shaped like an "L" ) just lifts up. Reverse directions to put in a new screen. Easy squeezy lemon Japanesey.

also, the tech at my store is planning on getting the white E4GT, removing the gray, and painting it (he hasnt decided on red or blue). depending on how that goes, i may be doing the same. a nice candy apple red with some metal flake in place of the gray would be gorgeous IMO. i think the gray looks like cheap, crappy plastic

Decided to start to start a new thread for people to discuss any build quality problems with the One X as I feel a little underwhelmed with mine. The power button doesn't seem to have any feedback click and only seems to register input if you press it hard, the screen surround has a bit of excess plastic sticking out on the top left side that I keep catching my finger on and the phone flexes and creaks when pressure is applied in certain areas (when held to my ear during a conversation creaks like an old bed!).
Is anyone else getting these problems? I might send it back as the creaking during phone calls is driving me nuts :/
good idea ill post this here too
just wondering anyone with the white version suffering from suspected hardware/build quality problems?

color? where is it made?
Mine is made in Taiwan. In the past the UK has normally got Taiwanese HTC phones and the rest of the EU having Chinese made ones. But as this is a new model, the initial batches may all be from Taiwan. I would expect Taiwanese made handsets to be slightly better in terms of quality.
I don't have any creaking or bits of unfinished plastic. Mine is white. I do see a couple of tiny imperfections in the white plastic. One is like a tiny grey dot. And the other is a tiny hole. But I am being very very fussy to notice this.
I do wonder how durable this polycarbonate surface is...if you rub at it to clean it, does it take the matt finish off making it shiny? (xperia S is AWFUL for this)
very good ,up you !!!

I've a grey one that I picked up from t-mobile store. I've put on a different thread the issue I have with screen ripples on the side when pressure is applied but its actually much worse as what has happened is that the phone screen pops in and out of the casing in the top right and left corners and noticeable can be pushed and clicked in. everywhere I aim it the screen gets covered with red stripes. Now I don't know much about camera's but this is not good
dl . dropbox . com/u/71154395/IMAG0017 . jpg (i'm new here so can't post a pic)
This does not appear on the front camera so i guess its hardware issue with the back camera?
What do you guys think? should I return the phone?
Not good to hear build issues
I wouldn't expect great build quality from HTC, it'sa never been high for the last few top of the line HTC phones I owned. That was the reason I went with Samsung phones and it was such a change for better, the parts are just put together so much better. It's not about parts quality, but build quality.
Now I'm back to HTC getting One X (replacing G Nexus) but I fear I will see those little things not done right again. Sometimes its creaking case, sometimes it's the screen that has not been put in perfectly in leaving more space between screen edge in one side than the other side, or that dust I used to get under the screen (happened with both phones).
I think the most annoying thing is all the reviews harped on about how the One X has premium build. Hoping I'll get a replacement that's better put together than this one!

Maybe they were all "sponsored".
Mine (White) has no squeaking/creaking issues. The glass seems to be solidly attached to the body.
I do have a problem with the finish of the polycarb body. On the left side of the body, right below the micro usb, there's a small spot in where you glide your finger you will feel some roughness. There's also a tiny tiny hair like specimen which seems to be glued on the body. Its not noticeable so im cool with it.
Yesterday morning I received my grey One X and was surprised to hear a rather big handful of people complaining about a rattle. So, I (as you do) picked up my phone and began violently shaking it.... I couldn't hear anything - until I turned off my TV - yes, it REALLY is that quiet. So after around 45 seconds of investigating I discovered that it is coming from the volume rocker. Slightly touching the rocker whilst shaking it stops the rattle – Remember though, you will require BOTH hearing aids to be turned up to 11.
It is NOT a problem or a fault. Yes perhaps they could have designed it with some more resistance which would stop the very slight rattle... BUT then EVERYONE would then be complaining that it takes too much force to increase or decrease the volume.
So, to conclude, Can EVERYONE please STOP complaining about it! Who is actually going to be shaking their phone to their ear on normal day to day use? Exactly, no 1)
It just shows that if you want to find an issue with a device, you will. And everybody blames the camera without thinking of the two only movable parts on the phone
And maybe you could change the thread title to "HTC One X Rattle: A non issue" or something?
Good to see a bit of comic relief from these forums. I have been through all this before with all the *****ing and moaning about a new device, but this phone seems completely bad with the number of multiple threads on the same issue, and people making a mountain out of a molehill with other issues.
Makes me think of issues of last couple of devices I've had: Proximity sensor, battery cover poorly designed, screen tint, creaking, dust under screen, battery life, low speaker volume, tiny gaps on phone housing, not to mention software issues....the list goes on and on.

exactly... have experienced some of the issues in some way with: Desire, Desire HD and Sensation
Maybe with your device it is...With most of our devices it's the focus "ring" of the camera. Witch happens with all devices and their different models.
You have to have a quiet room and hold it next to your ear. Not really a problem. I'd like to think that instead of a problem, we've found another feature!...

I was being a tinnnny bit sarcastic
On my white One X it's not the volume rocker, nor the power button. It really is the camera.
Guys I know it probably seems annoying but I have had my SGS for a very long time and that had the flimsiest USB cover slider that had a mind of its own. It rattles a lot if it comes undone and believe me, it was a pain initially driving me mad at first but you get used to it. Honestly, I don't even begin to hear it now and I would bet its probably a lot louder lol. Be happy your phone works properly if that is your only issue Others are having a lot more trouble
On mine it is neither the buttons or lens bezel, and I doubt it is on anybody else's, either. My guess is it,s a focus element in the lens, or perhaps an orientation sensor.

Yeah, it'll be fine... Biggest worry is always the screen smashing.

Well screen perfectly handled it ^_^ physically internal build you say well sheilded from such things?
One more thing i noticed and unsure if i had it before.... The top of the screen got such like cut artifact like part of the picture cuts (like in bad frame sync games on pc) delay behind.... im on paranoid rom jb with custom kernel tripndtoid which i installed few hours ago....could it be the gpu drivere in this kernel?
There's a video on Youtube of a guy doing a drop test. He basically drops it from various heights onto concrete. Although the screen eventually cracks from a face down hit, it continues to work fine. I wouldn't be too worried
So no worries from drop .... Thanms
graphical artifacts (while sliding the top side of the screen was like cutting it self) its gone now after installined re-packed faux.

Good to know.... the press guy at HTC i think mentioned that they built ONE X to be "hard to break" phone... and used some special plastic which knows to avoid stress and internal damages... but hopefully this engineering also smart to avoid internal damages when it falls right on the face (screen) hehe... think so?
Whenever someone mentions possible damage to their one x, it makes me cringe! Hope its all good for you

Like others have said, if the screen is fine then internals should be fine too. The biggest risk of dropping the One X is breaking its' screen. That is why I use a thin TPU case, with a small lip around the bezel which prevents the screen touching any flat surfaces. It should protect the screen from small drops. And I also don’t have to worry much about placing it face down on a hard surface. Unless you are one of those people who absolutely hate having a case, I highly recommend using one.
The case I use looks pretty decent, better than most other TPU cases out there. The texture on it's back closely resembles the feel and look of the polycarbonate back. It also prevents the camera lens touching the table when rested on its' back. Here are couple of photos of it:

Ah, that sucks man!
Mine is still holding up fine. I'm considering buying like some sort of liquid glass and applying it over mine, since it's so small, perhaps filling it in and hiding it. I really can't see mine at all unless I'm looking so I'm trying to avoid making a drastic decision.
no case just like that and 177.56 to get a new one off Samsung.

I dropped mines yesterday, luckily I had my powerskin case on it! It just plopped and bounced like a plastic cup.
I'm just sayin!

Here is a link to a video. It doesn't really look all that difficult. Just need to be careful.
EDIT: I watched a vid last week where a guy replaced just the glass. Used a heat gun to remove it from the digitizer.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30227964&postcount=9
Dropped my phone for the first time and look what happened. Only from about two feet off the ground.

Hah I dropped my s3 for the first time yesterday also. Got home and switched from the car's bt to phone, and tried grabbing 4 bags when this slipped face first onto the concrete.
My thin elago case literally flew off, lucky for me I only slightly screwed up the screen protector and scuffed one of the corners. Going to invest in a big tpu case...

I feel bad for all of you who've broken your phone, but at the same time some of you are the same one's who give me crap about putting an otterbox defender on mine and ruining the looks. I've dropped mine twice now, once getting out of my truck (approx. 4 ft) and the other at waist level. Both times zero damage, my case is a little scuffed but that's it. It's worth it to me to "ruin" the looks and not break my phone, even with a warranty you still have to pay money and wait for the new one.
Lol, last week my dumbass somehow slapped my phone out of my hand while transitioning from sitting to standing. And this happened twice within 3 days lol. Luckily I had my powerskin on.

Yep, I hope Samsung doesn't do this again. The original and the S2 both had good screen protection from the bezel on the edge where it really counts.
The S3 isn't very forgiving when it's dropped in any way other than flat on its back. Mine feel from my bed down to the floor hitting a dumbbell making contact to the bezel, leaving a dime sized dent. However, it managed to survive a swim in the lake this past summer!
Mine fell two feet onto carpet, landed on its back, about a week ago and my heart stopped! A couple days ago it got flung off my bed and hit the corner of a plastic stool with its screen but was fine. That picture is going to make me even more paranoid. It looks like its JUST the front glass though. I'm starting to consider ordering a just-in-case replacement glass...

How is that case? Do you like it? Is it too big?
