I have been getting very slow LTE speeds compared to other users here. 1.5 miles from my desk is the tower. I bought the phone friday after it launched and it still has slow data.
Is it just me or are those screenshots super grainy and blown up?
Either way, you only have 1 bar of signal, man. What you expect?
I took them 5 minutes ago on half brightness. Do you thing the screen is messed up? I normally get 1-3 bars. Here is another pic.

Brightness has nothing to do with the screenshot quality >.> they still look horrible for some reason. Anyway...
But yeah, something is wrong there assuming that you truly have a 3bar 4G signal (but given your first 2 only showed 1 bar, you seem to have signal issues). 185ms latency is really high too.
Under about phone, what's your signal in dBm? Do you have this issue in other areas or just at work?
Yea, I had 4G on, no wifi or 3G. I hope my screen isn't bad :/

Again, your screen quality has absolutely nothing to do with your screenshot quality. Its just being converted poorly when you upload them...
Do you have anyone else near you with any Verizon 4g lte phone?
Best way would be to compare between two phones to see if the problem is
1. Your area data speed
2. Your phone

My brother has a Charge, but I won't be able to see him until tomorrow evening. The tower is at my grocery store and the most I can pull there is 12-13 down and 6-7 up.

That's not bad at all. You have no idea how many people are on the network (or specifically at that tower).
Like I asked before, what's your actual signal, in dBm? that's what matters when troubleshooting this.

Here are my dBm
OP you are okay for a couple reasons. First you are a good distance from the tower, but still get really good speeds, more than capable of anything you can run. Second as said before you don't know how many people are also attached to that tower, in Pittsburgh I get 5 or 6 MB down but when I go home from work (about 30 minutes outside of Pittsburgh) I live in a small town that only has 4G because of a nearby Verizon store and I get 15+ down.

Or what the server your testing on is doing. I've seen LTE go as slow as 7 down, 2 up and as high was last night when I pulled nearly 30 down and 22 up... all from my couch.

Err...that's still not very good. At home I get anywhere from 15-30Mbps on 2-3 bars of service (around 85-75dBm)...and that's in Cleveland, with people all around using it. Outside of the city I easily break 30+Mbps (my parents live 20 minutes outside of the city and at their house I get around 30Mbps all the time).
Maybe there's something wrong with the tower or they haven't upgraded it in a long time, but being close to a tower should net you at least 15-20Mbps, if not higher. Anything lower than that I'd say there's probably a problem...considering I've seen those speeds while surrounded by people (at sporting events, and the like) all using connections.
I live about 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix. The tower here is one of the first in my area because they put it up for testing late February.
How do you guys know where the location of the towers are?

The tower is behind a plaza with some restaurants there. Well there was a jackin the box and i went in because i saw two verizon trucks there. Talked to them for about 45sec and they said they were installong a tower behing the grocery store. I asked if it was a 4G tower and they said yes.
Ok can it get any slower?

I have a permanent home in Austin, Texas and have had 4G there for about 6 or so months. Today I'm at school about 30 miles south of Austin in a city that has never had LTE. About 20 minutes ago I noticed the little 4G symbol at 1 bar and about 5 minutes ago it jumped to full bars and I had a signal of -70dbm. I assume they are just testing but does anyone know how long the process is to implement LTE to an area after testing.

No idea but check the speeds. Let us know how fast it is without anybody else on it

Well I wasn't able to catch it when I had a signal of -70dbm. It's back to 1 bar -109dbm but I'm getting 6-8Mbps down and 1-2Mbps up with ping times around 90-110. Not that impressive but not bad for low signal.

Usually no more than a couple weeks (If that).
I live in Salem OR and my 4G symbol came on the other day. Its definitely not official launch market yet but my bars have been fluctuating from 2-4 bars sometimes the symbol goes away an comes back I'm sure in a few weeks it will be official and much more stable.
Same here. Its starting to creep through my town, very spotty. Though I keep watching it get better and better, so I know this year will be awesome when fully implemented across all of Long Island.
I live in Lancaster Pennsylvania, and I just got a 4G signal yesterday as well. Not sure if they're testing or what, but I'm getting between -80 and -70 dBm signal, which is 3 or 4 (full) bars. I'm getting roughly 20 mbps down and 10 mbps up right now in my quick testing. All I can say, is I hope it doesn't go away.

I'm in Lancaster too! Thanks for the heads up! I just switched on my 4G radio (was keeping it off to save battery), and i've got a signal of 85dBm (3-4 bars) inside my house. Speedtest shows 6down/5up
Running 4.0.4 with included radios.
I'm going to assume you are all using the CDMA version. Since nobody even mentions anymore.

Last week I was traveling from Portland to Lebanon. As soon as I got away from Wilsonville, no 4g, which was typical since 4g came to Portland.
I then planned to move to Lebanon (though not the case, going to Salem now...). I called Verizon to ask if they could 'hint' to me the possibility of 4g in Lebanon and he said they can't give out (or know, yeah right) that information. A week later, I now get 4g all the way from Portland to Lebanon, although Lebanon is really weak, but when i does connect to 4g, I speedtest at 4-8Mbps.
I didn't notice any breaks in the signal all the way down I-5, so seems his story was accurate in thinking the I-5 would likely see it soon in Oregon since it appeared they were working the main HWY from North Washington down. On my trip, I hit the speed test a few times noticing anywhere from 34Mbps down to 4Mbps on Average on I-5. In Tigard I was getting the Max LTE speed of 43Mbps consistently. Up speed in all those test and in Tigard ranged from 4-18Mbps. Nice!
Anyhow, so I bugged Verizon 1 week ago and now it's down to Lebanon (maybe further, haven't traveled beyond on I-5 yet), so you should "Thank Me" for bugging them to get it down this far!!!!
I'M JUST KIDDING guys. But, it's great to see Verizon making excellent progress. Also, what I was told was that all the major cities were now basically covered. The next phase is all the major HWY's, such as Interstates, etc. Looks factual to me based on what is happening. My Unlimited 4g hotspot just gained more value! WooHoo!
Happy 4g'ing.

I've had 4G in my area and a few others cities around me that are miles apart since at least December and still no official launch announcement for these areas. Maybe they have just been grouped into Baltimore even though I'm about 30 miles from there?
So I narrowed it down to being on the 3rd floor of the Business building at my school. When ever I'm in my CIS class I have 1 bar 4G but when I go to the bottom floor or outside even, I'm back to 3G. Kinda weird and I hope that's not how it is when they officially implement it in this area.
Hello my fellow Note 2 users,
I know LTE hasn't come to NYC yet, so I went on the Web today looking for a location that had LTE in NYC, and found a overlay map (on singlar?) over google of 4G LTE signals available in NYC. It gave a location, so I took the 1.5 hour trip to it to see if it was true. And it WAS!
I went to the corner of 45th Street of Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave) and waited for a few mins. After a while my phone found the LTE signal and connected to it. It was the first time since I got this phone a week ago that it connected to a 4G signal and I was mega excited.
I did a few speed tests and here are the results in the pics I'm uploading.
Honestly, when they flip the switch on this network city wide, you guys are gonna LOVE it. Blazing fast, in the middle of the afternoon might I add!

@ Bojackr1 Yeah bro, head back out there and stand there for a while. It might take a min. or two, but it should connect. If it doesn't, go to Settings->more settings ->mobile networks ->network mode. And make sure your preferred network mode is: LTE/CDMA
If not, you might want to switch out to a diff one, reboot, and then go back in, switch it back to LTE/CDMA and then reboot. Hopefully by now it should connect. Post up screen shots if you do go and run some tests please.
@Bxreppa Holy crap dude. What are you doing on a station in the Bronx at 5:40AM? Your a brave man for whipping or your SGN2 on a likely empty station. Lol

According the to Sprint Rep. that activated my phone (so take it with a grain of salt), these are LTE test towers. The one on the Bronx has (supposedly) been up for a while, and others might show up in NYC before they throw the switch.

I live in the DC area where LTE has not officially launched (though it has been announced as a market that will have it in the coming months). I've found that if I switch the phone to "CDMA only," wait for the 3G icon to disappear, then switch it back to "CDMA/LTE," if there is a Sprint LTE signal available, the OG will pick it up and use it. Without toggling, the OG stays on 3G. I am hoping that this toggling is only necessary because Sprint has not officially flipped the switch in my area. I have yet to use the phone in a market that officially has LTE, but will be sure to check if the OG automatically picks up 4G without toggling the next time I am in an official LTE market such as Baltimore.

For those of you doing all this driving, make sure to pick up the Sensorly app, and map your trips. It shows other people where good 4g signal is. For instance, there are a few pockets here and there around DC, but nothing in other areas. They seem to very actively be building out the network. I know I get LTE all the time in College Park.

Around Del Amo Mall in Torrance. Driving up Prarie Ave to the the 405. Signal strength fluctuated all the time. I got a signal but Speed Test app couldn't find a server so couldn't run it.
I am currently using the S III on Verizon and I am looking to switch to T-Mo soon to save money, as I would save about $60/month. I am wondering if anyone is in the Boston area (I'm in the suburbs) that can comment on the kind of reception they get. Sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I figured it was as good as any.
What town do you live in? I get great service in the Boston Area around 5-7 mbps at home and inside the city I get around 10-20 mbps.

If I was you I would wait around until Tmobile's LTE launches and see what kind of reception people have with that and then get the GS4.
I can't switch till August. It worries me, as I have seen people with T-Mobile s3's at my HS holding them up to windows to get signal and my VZW s3 has like 4 bars of LTE. :/

their map is pretty accurate...I live in Auburn, near the "edge" of Edge and 4G. In home a bit spotty on Cellular, but TMobile has the wifi calling and that is great when you are near wifi.
But most places closer in are fully covered in 4G, and really LTE vs HSPA...who cares!...Both are plenty fast for most things...
