SD Card Problem in download folder - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
for a few days, i have a problem with the download folder on my sdcard.
if i access the 'download' folder with a file-manager (like ASTRO or any other..),
i get a notification, that there is an error (i guess an access-error) with the sd-card. (and the filemanager shuts down after a few seconds)
In the 'download' folder there are some strange files, which i can not access, delete, rename etc..
some have the size of 0 k, some have a few MBs and some have a size of almost 500-600 MB.
i don't know where they come from and what they really do. also the filenames are pretty weird. (the names contain 'at'-sign ...).
if this error occurs and i open the camera, there is also a notification, that i cannot take any pictures due to an sdcard-error.
does anyone know what these files are? or what to do?
kind regards
Markus

If you hava a card-reader I would take the card out and delete the files with a PC.

A Card reader is not available. But if I connect my DHD via usb and access as a hard drive,I can see the files, but cannot access them. No read / write access.
What I haven't done yet, to copy all the files from my sdcard to my pc, format the sdcard from my pc and copy all the data back. (of course only the data which are accessable). Hopefully it will not harm my desire hd.

If you use Linux you definitely can mount the SD-card and do what you want with the files there (you may have to become root) but it is acutally quite easy.
I just dit it on my DHD.
If you don't have Linux installed, just download an Ubuntu Live-CD, boot from it, plug in your DHD via usb, select "drive mode" (or whatever it is called) on the DHD, go to the directory where the card is now mounted, solve your DHD problem and you don't even leave a trace on you harddrive.

[Q] How to acces phone instead of SD card storage?

Hi guys.
I wonder how I can access the phone storage space through windows explorer, I only seem to be able to get access to the SD card when I plug the usb in?
(running CM7)
I don't think its possible. To access phone storage space use ADB. If you are familiar with linux commands, use ADB and enter ADB shell. From here you can play by all linux rules and by obtaining su, you can pretty much do anything
why don't you try dropbox?
I remember there is kind of root explorer for windows. I can't locate it now but you may do a search for it.

I think you can through ADB,
adb shell
su
cd sdcard
ls
now you can see your files in your SDcard...
if I have misunderstanded youe meaning????
I'm a chinese vegetablebird....and my english is very.....
maybe he wants to have the access to the phone memory through usb?
He can now view and edit files on his sdcard.
I can put mp3's on my sd card, I don't know how to store them on my phone

If your phone is rooted you can copy files from the memory card to the phone's memory with a file explorer which has root privileges (Root Explorer, Yaffs Explorer, etc.). But I think it doesn't make any sense, because if you want to listen to those mp3 songs, your music player doesn't have direct access to phone's memory.
I prefer ADB shell or Terminal Emulator just because it's funner that way but the obviously easier route is to use a file explorer with root privelages. I like to feel like a geek and do it the hard way
I just don't get what the point is of having 1.5gb of storage space on the phone if you can't acces it?
Try droidexplorer , search for it ..
The point of 1.5GB phone storage is for you to install apps from the martket or other side loading apps. Accessing to SDcard for other media contents is more likely logical indeed.
But if you want to put mp3 into your phone internal storage, then this is another not so logic as you can have it in your SDcard with still the phone apps can access it rather easily.
However... if you have a short mp3 ringtones and want them to be in the phone internal storage. This one is considered making sense. Well you can do it by using root explorer to copy/move your mp3 ringtones to your phone internal storage.
Steps required:
1) rooted defy
2) root explorer installed and working properly
3) have your ringtones ready in your SDcard.
4) launch root explorer and make sure you're under read/write full access
5) copy/move your ringtones to system/media/... ringtones, notifications, alarms (depending which of your choice) and give them access right as per the default tones settings.
6) You need to delete internal sound .db in data/data/com.android.provider.media/databases.
7) exit and restart your phone. This restart required for the phone to recreate the database you deleted to the latest updated one according to the intenal storage contents.
8) Check your phone ringtones in settings for the existance of your newly installed ringtones..
Note: And of course you can still access your phone internal storage thru your root explorer app. It's more like it practical than for you to find a PC and get adb shell to gain access to your phone internal storage.

Can you offer any additional info? Have to used Root Explorer or a similar app to confirm without a doubt the files are gone and not just in a different place? And I am slightly confused when you say "move to sd card" because internal storage and SDcard on this phone are the same thing since there is no EXT..
I copyed files as usualy from computer to the nexus
After the copy (I copied the new google apps zip) this zip is ont the storage, but all other 12Go of data in the card are disapeared
I try to find it with windows, root explorer, es file explorer, I tryed android undelet tools and windows undelet tools... noone can see the MTP memory of the nexus .......
And I disabled the upload to picasa..

Do you have fast usb charge enabled? If so, try disabling that.
all files in /sdcard disappeared
The same thing just happened to me. I copied 386MB of music to /sdcard/Music and all appeared to be fine. I used Windows7 x64 Explorer over USB mounted as MTP.
I noticed that I could not copy some files back to Windows from Nexus. After messing around with that for a while I used ES File Explorer to check out /sdcard. Only a few folders were there, as if /sdcard were newly created. I could still see all of the lost folders in Windows Explorer.
Am I screwed?
TIA!
This is from a corrupt MediaStore DB. I ran into something similar when moving files to my phone over WiFi using File Explorer. Afterwards only a handful of folders showed up when connected via USB. Only way to fix it is to reset the DB. Settings > Apps > All > Media Storage > Clear data/cache. Reboot. It should completely rebuild the DB after the boot, and things should show up correctly again.

That did not get all my data back, I must have done something else while trying to fix it. The good news is that this fixed one of my next questions: How do I reset the Google Music album art? The suggestion above fixed that wonderfully.
Thanks!

[Q] Storage missing/partly hidden

Hello guys,
I have a bigger problem I hope you can help me with...
My internal storage is somehow messed up. This has effects on MTP and on some apps like the stock camera.
When accessing my internal storage by MTP from PC, only a few folders and files are visible. In contrast, if I list the content of "/mnt/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard0" they show all my files and folders as one would expect. Also, files visible on the PC are inside this path and even when i copy a file from the PC, it is placed here.
The more serious problem is, that some apps are not able to find their files and folders inside die storage anymore. As an example, the camera app asks me to insert a sd card before taking a picture and Winamp doesn't find my music anymore.
What i tried so far:
Copying files from and to storage with Dropsync, FolderSync and ES Explorer: works without problems
I checked the rights of the files with the terminal: nothing interesting there
I cleared my whole storage (thanks to Unlock procedure) and flashed a new Custom ROM
I drank a lot of coffee because it got late
Nothing worked.
Please help, Thanks!
So thats me again.
I finally found the correct allready existing post. In this thread user dlzinc describes that one has to fix the permissions for /data/media. Good to know that i was right with permissions, bad that i didn't go through with it in the first place.

[Q] How do i access files from Root Explorer on my Laptop?

Hey everyone @crpalmer tagged you in case you could help
I am running Jrummy's Root explorer on the phone searching for some pictures on Dropbox.
I FINALLY found them in the /Mnt/sdcard/Android/data/... but i can't figure out where to copy and paste these imgs to so that my computer can 'see' them.
When i plug the tablet into the computer all that comes up is Internal Storage with 9 GB available and inside that i have only bare files like Alarms Android etc. But NONE of the folders have any of the phones files.
Basically i can't see anything on my tablet through my computer.
I tried pasting the file on System/root but the computer still doesn't show it!
Regards
Silkmeister1
UPDATE: i managed to stick a TINY 1 mb sd i had laying around and that changes things to where my i could copy things to the sd card and the computer sees that, but now the issue is the .jpg won't open correctly as they are too large or corrupted
wondering if this is a permissions issue

[Q] Can someone explain to me how storage works? What is

I decided to upgrade to Lollipop after holding out for awhile.... before I did though, as I knew I was going to run an RUU so I wouldn't have any problems with the OTA, I copied everything in my "storage" (all folders) to my windows laptop desktop via USB.
After upgrading, I copied it all back, making sure not to over-write anything.
What is strange is when I copied all my folders to my laptop initially, I didn't see a Download folder... which I expected to see. But after looking through the folders I had copied, I saw a folder called storage, and in that folder another called emulated, and then another called "0". In that folder I finally saw my Download folder.
I didn't think much of this at the time, however, when I look at storage from Root Explorer, I note there is a new Download folder at the "root" level of storage, but the storage/emulated/0 path is still there as well.... and following it takes me to my old Download folder....
So...to get back my original folders and contents before I upgraded to Lollipop, I have to copy over every folder in this path up 3 levels. i.e., from /storage/emulated/0/storage/emulated to /storage/emulated.
What is going on? Why is there an "0" and a "legacy" if I go up one level from /storage/emulated/??? Why did my old Download folder end up where it did?
I had this exact same thing in my mind.
Why is there such a folder ?
My phone storage was almost full and I found out this folder is taking up whole space.
I cut the storage folder and pasted it into memory card
now all my downloads go to memory card (mmc:storage/emulated/0)
+1
I have also this folder that takes a lot of internal memory space.
I experiment one thing:
I have 1 game that takes 2Gb of data and I have moved it to sdcard memory (using Android-M feature : move app from internal to sdcard )
I saw in this directory (emulated/0/ ) the 2Gb of this game. ????? So, I tryed to copy/paste this data to sdcard, in order to free internal memory space. But I loose the game's configuration.
I was thinking that moving app from internal to scard, the data of the app also move, isn't it ?
I need help to understand that ...
