First and foremost I'm a total noob too all this andriod rooting and flashing roms stuff so feel free to point and laugh at my stupidity lol.....Now thats out the way down to noob questions lol.
I attempted to flash myn's warm twopointtwo rls 2 last nite and failed doing it this is what I did so maybe somone here can shed some light on what I did wrong please.
1. I used unrevoked 3.21 on a mac to get the root. I achieved root & superuser icon.
2. Then I rebooted in recovery using clockwork mod (couldn't figure out how to flash RA mod which I read is better)
3. wiped factory reset, davlik and cache.
4. went into sd card tried to flash the rom and it would not doing anything.
5. Reboot and still be in htc stock.
Please help!! and yes I"m a noob lol
it looks like your steps are correct but what exactly happened when you selected the rom? that is the step it looks like there may be a problem.
make sure youa re selecting install rom from SD and not flash update.zip from sd.
otherwise once you select insall file from sd you should jsut have to scroll to the rom and hit the power button once to install it. shoudl be obvious that it is installing. once its done reboot and you should be good to go.
one last thought if you downloaded the rom on your mac i have heard that it can cause an issue. something about mac recompressing the zipfile as it downloads and not flashing. you may see if you can downlaod it directly to your phone or on a windows pc if you ahve one and try flashing that file.
I tried the install from sd card then chose the myn's rom and it didn't take just went back to main clockwork mod screen no installing...I have a dual boot mac at home with windows xp on it so I"ll try downloading it from there...I'll report back when I try again...Thank you for the reply
so I finally got around to trying to figure it out and it was a noob move I did of course...I didn't clear the sd ext that was my mistake...I am using Ra recovery now finally figured how to flash that also lol...Love andriod phones so far now on to custom roms!!! Thanks for all your help.
great glad to hear you got everything working!
Heres my situation...Im currently running MIUI 1.3.4 ROM. I finally decided to try out another rom so I choose Warm Two Point Two RLS 5. So I downloaded that as well as radio/wimax update zip that was said on thread to flash w/ rom.Heres EXACTLY wat I did: (1st) Did a Nandoid backup (2nd)did a full wipe...data/factory reset...cache...then dalvik (3rd) flashed Warm 2pt2 ROM (4th) in same recovery session wiped cache...then dalvik and flashed radio/wimax update(was told to wait for for radios to flash..would see little green arrow/phone icon which I did (5th) then I rebooted. So my problem is after doing all that it rebooted back to my MIUI rom and NO new rom was installed! Dont get what I did wrong! I hav not had problems flashing different kernels on the MIUI rom but struck out on starting with fresh install to change roms. So can anybody give me advice on this matter?
are you using clockwork? try RA.
Try it again. Or maybe try flashing the radios first, then the rom.
Flash calkulin's format all, then flash the radios, then myn's rom, then reboot. Nothing else, and do it all within one recovery session.
The format all will wipe all the things you did, plus system and one other. It's usually just a good idea to do whenever you switch actual rom's.

yes I used unrevoked 3 to root my phone so im runnin clockwork. So if I wanted to change recovery...how wud I go about doin that?
It was said on the install instructions in the thread I got the warm's two point two rom from to flash rom first then radio/wimax update. Does it really matter or will I mess up my phone if I do it the other way?

try clockwork again, except in your step (2) when you get to wipe dalvik hit yes, let it load, then hit restore boot at top....let it load, then when it returns to main, hit chose zip and flash...
..or in clockwork scroll down to alternate recovery...hit it should change to RA. MAY need to be the paid version i forget.
you could also do the other suggestions.
Edit...as for the updates it won't matter if the radios and ROM are up to date.
Well thts wat I mean as far as I kno Im not a sense rom if im runnin MIUI which is a AOSP rom. Thats why Im askin if flashing the radio/wimax update before the the Warm's rom wud do anything to my phone? I already hav the Calkulin's format all zip on my sd card so I will try tht but before I do I just need to kno if its ok to flash update before rom.
You are fine to flash the radio/wimax before flashing the rom.
Well I finally got the warms rom to flash. It ended up being a corrupted zip file on my sd card. So I deleted it and downloaded it again on my sd card then flashed...so everything is workin now....YEH!!!! Thanks everyone for the advice...much appreciated!
Glad you got it working...and that's the end of that chapter.
I have been wanting to root and try a custom rom but I was scared of brick. Anyway I finally rooted with Unrevoked 3.3 which installed Clockwork recovery also and after that I installed rom manager. When I went to do a backup of current rom it said I need to install Clockwork recovery first but its there already. I know there is guides everywhere but thats the problem not sure which to use to learn what to do before I try flashing new rom. What about kernel I really don't understand where to go from here. I am rooted and Clockwork recovery flashed but don't know where to go from here. I am not a idiot just a little guidance please! I really want learn process of installing new and restoring old roms with my Evo. How do I know what other updates need to done before using a certain rom like kernel and radio? Thanks Alot To Anyone That Can Help A Fellow Android Lover!
You try reflashing clockwork recovery?

No I just cheked to see if I could boot to recovery with vol/power buttons and seems fine Clockwork Recovery is there. So I should just let Rom Manager try to install Clockwork Recovery again? What would be my steps to installing new rom after I get rom manager to backup current rom? Thanks Alot!
Well first backup your rom and wimax keys and then go to the xda android development section and download a rom, clear cache /dalvik/ and I think its system restore something like that..I don't use cwr

First of all, if you're certain that your recovery is installed, then you need to decide what rom and what type of rom you want to install? For instance, do you want a Sense based rom (the HTC overlay that your EVO came with) or an AOSP rom (Pure Android like on the Nexus)? For a sense based rom, I suggest Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS-5. You can see photos of it as well as download it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471 and for an AOSP rom, I suggest Salvage-Mod 1.2.1. It can be downloaded from here: http://www.salvage-mod.com/node/4. Make sure you download the Google Applications from the same page. Whichever you decide to flash or any others, put them on your SD card. Now shutdown your device. Simultaneously press the DOWN volume button and the power button until your device starts. There will be a short pause and then a few lines of text will scroll across the screen. Afterwards, you will see a set of options. One of the options will be "recovery". By the way, look at the top of the screen and make sure it displays "S-OFF". If it displays "S-ON", you are not rooted. Anyway, select recovery. Your phone will vibrate and display a white EVO screen and then boot into recovery. Your recovery should be ClockworkMod. Go into the backup menu and select nandroid backup to make a backup of your current setup. You can always restore your device to the way it was if you don't like your new roms, mods, themes and kernels. After you've made your backup, go to the wipe menu and wipe everything except the SD card. After that, go to the flash zip menu and flash the rom you want to try. After it's finished, it should prompt you to reboot. Do so and be patient. You will appear to hang at a couple of places. Be patient. Let it finish. Be patient. Do not pull the battery. Be patient. After some time, you will see your rom's splash screen and then your new homescreen. If it is a sense based rom, go to menu-settings-system updates and select update profile after you've signed in with your Google credentials. Enjoy your new rom.

Root of card is preferred but anywhere is fine since you will have to point rom manager to it. Alot of roms come with kernels so I wouldn't sweat it. No need to rename. A good starting rom are any kingsroms insane fast and all features usually work most are still froyo but look much different than ur stock rom

Wouldn't say I'm a noob but I'm moderately knowledgeable in the flash process, I use amon RA (much better in my opinion) but was never good at giving instruction or directions lol

I, too, use amon RA and love it. As for not giving good instructions, don't worry about it. There have been numerous times when I've given summarized instructions because I either assumed the OP knew what I was talking about or I was rushing because I had something else to do. The important thing to remember is that you helped. Period!...

One last thing how do I install the google apps after rom flash? I think I am going to try Salavge-Mod 1.2.1. Last question for awhile I swear! THANKS AGAIN!
Just d/l the latest version, put it on your sd card, reboot to recovery and flash it, then when you reboot to system, you'll get the prompt to go to the market and d/l each app.

You can either flash it immediately after flashing Salvage-Mod or boot into Salvage-Mod first and then press and hold the power button until the menu appear
Select reboot and then select recovery. Once you're back into recovery, wipe cache & dalvik cache and then flash the Google applications (gapps). Afterwards, reboot.

-steps into the fray-
Well I first off wana say, you were in good hands with dougjamal.
To flash gapps:
1. Download the latest gapps / the ones provided in the salvage mod thread
2. Boot into recovery.
3. After you have flashed the salvage mod rom, wipe your cache and dalvik cache, then flash the gapps zip.
I am fully rooted had VR KINGDOM BETA 1 did a nand backup tried to save some space on my phone using Calkulins (Firerat) custom recovery mtd and boot custom mtd follolwed all instructions went to reboot now phone hangs on splash screen. Tried to restore a previous backup of Mikfroyo 4.62 using same procedure it hangs on boot anim...I still have access to recovery amon ra 2.3 on phone but I am lost as to how to get my phone up and running again...was at work all day sick to stomach thinking I have f-d my phone up...PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME
What you can do is a clean wipe, then restore the backup, flash the rom over itself, or do a clean wipe, and then flash a new rom. Did you rename the backup?
Here are my thoughts, you probably wiped the ROM when you modified your partitions and you never flashed a new ROM so you have nothing to boot into. Another thought is maybe the nandroid you are restoring has partitions that are too big/small for your new partition sizes and they can't be restored and/or nandroids are not compatible once you modify the partition sizes. I would just try to flash a new ROM image and see if it boots.
Boot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache , and sdext. Then restore your backup of mikfroyo and reboot. Let it sit and be... patient

I would assume that since he's not getting an error when restoring, that he didn't improperly rename it.
OK GUYS first off HUGE THANKS for quick reply !!!! I have done complete wipes, flashed Kingdom backup...nothing... I even had the PC36IMG.zip of Sprint lovers Rom and tried that cuz it has saved my EVO before but when I tried the update it unzipped all but system update ...said "fail uz" on bootloader screen. Is there any way to get that calkulins off my phone. Oh and at one point when I booted into recovery from bootloader it said at bottom E:/ Can't open cache. Only Mik backup is named...Kingdom is named what amon ra put ( date time)...PLEASE HELP ABOUT TO CRY!!!!
Did you try to flash a new ROM via recovery?
When I tried to restore Mik backup it got as far as the boot anim then screen times out. Only Rom I have on my phone to flash is the VR KINGDOM BETA. I am using my gf EVO shift to post guys please be patient with me...just want my EVO back!!!!
Is it possible to download a Rom to gf phone and put on sdcard to flash to my phone or will I lose recovery without MY EVO sdcard...she is not rooted
When I flash a new Rom do I have to do all the steps for the calkulins recovery and boot custom mtd...I would like to just get rid of it. I have used calkulins method in the past with no probs...so why now and why can't I even use the PC36IMG.zip Sprint lovers !!!!! I figured if I still had access to recovery my phone is still savable...??? Is it???
You can flash from her card. Your recovery is not stored on your sd card
If you go to your amon, and choose the usb option, second choice I believe, it will mount your phone to your computer as disk drive and you can transfer a ROM from your computer.
Will download a Rom now and try...will let you know....BIG THANKS!!!

Yea its not hard, as some users have issues with clockwork. Just be sure to make a backup immediately as your can't restore CWM, and make a wimax backup.
Pretty comfortable with amon been using since Dec.'10 when I got EVO and root. Downloading Mik 4.62 now...wish me luck guys...will let you know.!!!
Ok good, you're welcome and good luck, post any problems... but remember, be patient... if it isn't bootlooping, it means is working! ( Assuming it gets to the bootanimation)

Hey all-
So I've flashed to CM7 3 times now and each time I get everything setup correctly, my apps restored etc. But as soon as I go to reboot I get stuck on the CM7 loading screen forever. The image is animated, but it will not finish.. it will go all night if I let it.
I have a feeling the issue is in the method im using to install. I'm coming from Fresh 3.5 using Amon Ra recovery. I cleared all user data, dalvik cache and then flashed the rom. I then flashed gapps and it boots into CM7 fine. The reboot is the problem. Am I missing a step? Should I be clearing/formating/deleting more before flashing the new ROM?
Thanks guys. This forum has been a huge resource for me in the last couple weeks. <3

Followup Question:
Can I restore a Clockwork Backup using Amon RA? Amon wants to check the nandroid folder for backups..and I don't have any nandroid backups (not sure how I didnt do one). can I move a existing clockwork backup from the clockwork folder to the nandroid folder on my SD's root and use that?
Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to flash to clockwork? Now when flashing to CM7 or Fresh I'm getting stuck on the loading screen.. Thanks
So, it looks like the issue is with gapps. When I flash CM7 it works great..once I reboot into recovery, flash gapps, I get the freezing error. I am using version:
gapps-hdpi-20101113-signed.zip
Is this what I should be using?
No there's a newer version you can use let me see if I can find it and get you a link...
Edit: I found the one on my SD card its not the newest but it should work
