Hello
Im sorry if this has been asked before, but i just installed Froyo OTA and cant seem to move any application to the SD Card? Not even maps
Is there anything i need to do?
Thanks
There is this innovative way to search for answers before creating ANOTHER thread.
Even google can help. Shock horror.. Just to make it simple for you
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/311380/froyo-vs-a2sd-vs-a2sd/
Oh well mr. all knowing, i allready tried that!
But i cant even move apps to the SD card that should be 2.2 A2SD compatible! for instance Google Sky Maps:
New: 1.5.2: Move app to sdcard (Android 2.2 users)
When i go to manage apps and find the app - The option "Move to sdcard" is greyed out.
Then how do you know it isn't already on the card ?
Because it would then say "Move to phone" ??????
Not very helpful, I know, but I'm getting the "move to SD card" option on certain apps since the OTA update.
Just installed Google Sky Map (had to remove to clear space before the upgrade!) and it's automagtically installed on the SD card.
Where do you find that "Move to SD card" button? I dont see it.
Got it
Settings -> application -> manage
Menu > Settiings > Apps and then tap the respective app
This has been cited elsewhere as well. It is of general importance here, nevertheless:

Thanks alot, this looks interresting
Now I am wondering ... Where does FroYo store those apps in the sd-card?
Anyone know in which folder? Only if we can see it when attached as USB disk.
Just to know, so we will be careful to NOT delete that folder
hi everyone
finally thinking about rooting i have a htc desire 2.2 but internal memory is becoming a problem
but i need to know the benefits?
will i able to remove some stock apps?so that internal memory is freeed up?
will apps2d able to move all apps to sd card?
what else will i able to do?
can i install a stock froyo rom without sense for my desire?im sure that would free up some space?
Yes, yes, yes and yes If you want all of the above, you can get it by rooting.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
thanks alot
how much memory free do you have on your desire?
does apps2sd move the entire application to sdcard or just the data?
This should not be in the Development forum, should've gone in Q&A
I have 100 mbs left after installing about 20 apps and a couple of games. Apps2sd will still use a bit of internal memory, but most of it goes to the sd.
EDIT: This is with ~30mb taken up from adobe flash and air on internal.

so it wont work even if i root my stock rom?i'l have to load a rom?
one thing im wondering
how come you guys are getting 140mb +- free with apps installed?
where did the space come from?
If you root your stock ROM then yes you can then use adb to remove system apps. The issue is they're not part of the internal storage but on a seperate system partition. This means removing them won't add space to downloaded apps
If you want to install hundreds of pointless, needless apps** then you're going to need a custom ROM which uses A2SD+ - LeeDroid is one example but I personally prefer either an MCR ROM from MoDaCo or the Desire HD port (RCMixHD). Both also extremely good ROMs
** This is my personal opinion, I don't use my Desire as a replacement for every other device I own so have no need to use excessive ammounts of apps

Tks
I don't have alot of apps
Maybe 20
Problem is copilot, flash, air, google maps etc
They take up alot of space, I'm not trying all apps
S-OFF then remove using root explorer
I have 69MB free with the following updates/apps installed:
1. Facebook (Update)
2. Twitter
3. Angry Birds (on SD Card)
4. Adobe Flash (Update)
5. Google Maps (Update)
6. Gmail (Update)
7. eBay

9. Street View (Update)
10. App Manager
11. Dolphin HD Browser (on SD Card)
12. YouTube (Update)
13. EStrongs File Explorer (on SD Card)
So, for me, I don't NEED to root. I still do to try a new ROM if it's something that appeals but I love Sense - stock Android is so fugly
Hi,
If you're using Android (Froyo) you can I believe move, some, of the apps an data to the SD card using your existing ROM.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications.
Look at the downloaded apps and highlight one, it may or may not give you the option to move to SD card. The ability to move to SD is dependent on the Application developer in question. Hence, this doesn't work for all applications and data.
There are also some Market Apps that can scan the list for you, I tried "App 2 SD" by Sam Lu which seemed to work for me.
Regards.

Hello, the game might refer to your internal sd card, not external sd card
step by step
Games and applications can be installed on your internal SD (your phone memory) or your external SD. apps are installed on your internal SD by default. for moving an application from internal SD to external SD here is your steps:
settings -> applications -> manage appications -> (select your app) -> Move to SD card (button)
one of the other reasons that got this massage might be that your internal SD is full, but how it happens? when you download an application and install it, the application source will stay on your phone. it is because when you used a paid application, and for any reason deleted the application, next time you want it, you won't have to pay again. but if you download many programs and install them (or install and then delete them) source file of app will stay on your internal SD and it will get some space. browse a little in file manager app and you will find some of sources you don't want to.
be careful if you rooted your phone, maybe you delete an application that is necessary for your phone. only delete apps you know.

This is nonsense. Information about your paid apps is stored in the cloud, on Google servers. You can even change your phone for a new one and you will be still able to download your paid apps stored under your account.

ninmanr telling the same stuff as you..
Let me make this clearer... Every apps leave what we call caches.
So there's four type data stored in your phone when it's installed:
APK at /data/app
data folder at sdcard (if created by app)
SQL DB entry
Cache and Configurations
Your best bet when uninstalling a program is clearibg the cache first, clear data, then uninstall.
But I believe you can do more when rooted. CMIIW
Ok, just got this phone, and i'm feeling very pleased with everything but this..
How is it possible to have 32GB sd space on this thing and and not to be able install apps on it?
I managed to save apps on the card and load it to marketplace, but when i install it installs on the phone root.
I e-mailed HTC and they said that only a 3rd party app can fix this.
Can anyone help?
I think there is no solution for this. I have the same problem, I want to install navigon europe, but it will not fit into the 8S...
(The maps are about 2.4 GB).

your are right there is no solution curently. Windows phone 8 does not allow instaling apps on SD card, but maybe over time the developers will make custom ROM which will allow that like on HTC HD2

I am hoping for at least a solution from navigon, to install the app normaly and put the maps on the SD card.
Lets hope they will fix this.
Let`s just hope developers will do something about this. In a month or two, there will be many 8S all over the world and many users will report this problem. Or maybe Microsoft will come with some updates that will allow us to install apps on the SD card.
5 stars for the first developer to do this!

The third request is actually already fulfilled. So don't waste your votes on it.
You can close the apps by double pressing the back button.
I have found a sort of solution for this is that you download the apps manually from the pc and then transfer to you sd card using your pc to drag and drop the apps to the root of the sd card
You can now install what you want from the sd card not over wifi
This is a better method to manage the internal memory problem as this way does not clutter the phones memory cache with download clutter. I have over 730mb left with all my apps installed and afew games
Thanks

How do you make the phone see the "drag n drop" app you just put onto the SD card?
In addition to the very mi-nute 4GB storage not able to storage off-line maps, I've encountered another issue arising from the barely enough 4GB.
It's when I watch Youtube videos, halfway through, the "Make More Space" menu pops-out all of a sudden.
I am guessing it is because the videos are cached onto the 4GB storage, which I have only 200MB left after OS / apps installations!

I would try to move movies pictures music to ext sd card not phone memory as for downloading you use the pc to download all tour apps from the store then manually drag them onto your sd card root directory then restart you phone all your apps should show under sd storage in the os don't use your phone to download as this uses internal memory. You can get by until Microsoft decides to fix the problem with memory issues its just a bad design in their sdk build like android which had teething problems in the beginning which were fixed in
Later os updates
I would not use any satnav on this phone until they fix the memory issues maybe the developers need to look into this with microsoft we will have to wait to see

2. I can't move apps to sdcard. Okay for some phones with a huge storage, this is not a big deal. But for us with a 4GB storage and just got 1GB free? Then what's the usage of sdcard anyway??

There is a rediculous bug in google photos, that do not allow you to delete pictures from sd card. The problem is that most people store their pictures on sd, and google photos uploads pictures from sd and not even check if it could delete from there.
Why this is happening? Because google have broken access to sd in Android 4.4. There is no official way how apps could ask for write access in android 4.4.
Google+ photos was discontinued, and offer user to install Google photos. However, google+ photos was system app (so no sd problems), but new downloaded google photo app is not system (so cannot write to sd).
But developers have found a bug in android 4.4 that still allow apps to write to sd. However, it may not work on some devices.
In android 5.0 there is official way how apps could write to sd (ask directory via Storage Access Framework).
I have experimented a lot and here I have suggestions how to solve this problem.
This is workaround methods table. This do not require app mod, but REQUIRE ROOT
(sorry, it is not possible to make html formatting)
Method Android KK Android LP Android MM Android N
1) SD fix (add media_rw to platform.xml) Yes Yes No Not tested
2) Make app system No (crashes) No (starts normal, but app itself says, that is installed incorectly) No (starts normal, but app itself says, that is installed incorectly) Also, clear cache, or it will lie, that it can move to trash. Not tested
3) Make app system (some old version), after that install new version as usual
Not tested No Yes (not clear how it works however, maybe after cache cleaning it will brake again)
Not tested
4) Xposed XinternalSD Not tested Not tested Yes Not tested
5) Xposed Marshmallow fix
Not tested Not tested No Not tested
6) Add <item name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" granted="true" flags="0" /> to /data/system/packages.xml
Not tested Not tested No Not tested
This is ideas of app modification, so that app do not require root
Method | Can be used by google | Can be used by community | Android KK | Android LP | Android MM | Android N
1) KK backdoor (where possible) + LP SAF | Yes | Do not know. Maybe microG? | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes
2) Google services backdoor | Yes | No, because microG will not be system app. | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes
3) Private directory in /data/data | Yes | Do not know. Maybe microG? | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes
I have seen how OG Youtube app works. Especially interesting noroot + microG way. Is it possible to make the same with google photos?
Conclusion.
There are applications, that uses my ideas and works without a problem. For example, FX file explorer uses KitKat workaround on 4.4 and saf on 5.0+. Also gp has all the same permissions as fx. It looks like google do not allow users to manage photos on their device intentionally. Do not know why, maybe to make people use internal storage for photos and move all to cloud, so make people dependent from their services. But why then even «sync» anything from sd?
Anyway, we should solve this. Is it possible to modify google photos like og youtube? This is needed because if we somehow modify apk, it will not be accepted by google services due to wrong signature. Xposed is not a way, because as you remember, we need noroot way. So, alternative google services possibly could help.
This is how GP behaves now:
User want to delete a picture
Is there direct write access to sd?
Yes — delete picture.
No — Say that gp have no write access to sd.
How it should behave?
User want to delete a picture
Is there direct write access to sd?
Yes — delete picture.
No — then
— Is it Android 5.0+?
— Yes — ask user to allow access via SAF and after that delete picture.
— No — (means we are on Android 4.4 or specially configured 4.3- as in 4.4) then:
— — Show message: «No access, use root or change android version» or «Set your system camera to save pictures in /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.photos/DCIM», or «Update google services, then gp will be allowed to delete pictures».
Will be glad to hear your thoughts.

Are you sure you are talking about photos, stored on External SD card?
If you store them in Internal Storage, then it is no problem to delete. But most people prefer to store pictures on sd.

yes. nexus 6 doesnt have external storage, but the other two devices do.
Ok, so nexus 6 is offtopic.
But about other two devices: Are you sure that
1) you set your camera to save pictures to microSD?
2) in google photo you are deleting that picture, stored on microSD (check if it exist on microSD)?
3) You did not made any custom configurations to your system (I mean editing platform.xml, using after-market ROM, using Xposed and so on)?
4) Pictures are not appeared there again after reboot?
If all this is "yes", than it is very strange. And even if it so, then probably manufacturer of your ROM already did sd fix. Can you check if sd fix is needed with NextApp SdFix app?
