[Q] what rom to use? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What ROM should I use, I have no idea what any of them do.
My software is:
android version: 2.2
baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
kernel version: 2.6.32.15-gd96fc0 [email protected] #1
build number: 2.14.207.2 CL259355 release-keys
software number: 2.14.207.2
browser version: webkit 3.1

there are basically couple types of ROMs, generally
1. HD / Z ROM (porting Desire HD or Z)
2. Gingerbread ROM ( port from Android 2.3.2)
3. AOSP ROM
4. CM ROM
Here is the index thread for custom rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
browse through each other and read comments on it, and decide which is the most comfortable to use. Remember you can change ROM as many times as you like until you land on the final decision

Before you do anything download this RUU to go back to stock if you ever need to:

[Q] gingerbread or not to gingerbread. ?

I am in need of advise from users whether the gingerbread
Roms are stable enough for every day use
I am currently on droidzones starburst so go on
What have you got and what's good what's missing
what wouldn't you recommend
Stable versions are usually working, nightlies may have issues (CM7 So far have nightlies)
I am using GB a few months.
And what's missing and what's not - go and read a bit in each ROM's thread.
Then decide yourself
I see no reason to keep Froyo.
I am switching from time to time between InsertCoin stable (current 1.1.0) and Oxygen (current 2.2.1)
Check out the G1 Android Development and try the different stable ROMs.

Gingerbread it. Cyanongenmod is full of options, Oxygen is stable and fast and then there's all the sense ROMs. I would suggest trying one of those two.
PHONE: HTC Desire GSM, S-OFF
ROM: Redux2 Snapshot 18082011
RADIO: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
KERNEL: thalamus 2.6.35.14_r1
I suggest to try:
Sense: InsertCoin 1.1.1
AOSP : Oxygen 2.2.1
give leedroid a try as well ( good battery life )
Cyanogenmod 7.1 is fast and stable give it a go

The NCR in the kernel details stands for 'No Call Recording'. If the patch was there, it would say '2WCR'. ARHD always includes the NCR kernel by default. Download the 2WCR kernel from here and flash it in recovery. No need to wipe cache/dalvik-cache after flashing. Download the latest 12.2 version with call record and ARHD 6.4 which was recently released. First flash ARHD 6.4 and then flash the 12.2 2WCR kernel. CallRecorder will work fine then. You can also download the v11.1 2WCR kernel and flash it if you want to stay on 6.3.3, but you'll need v12.2 if you want to flash the ARHD 6.4 update. The correct kernel for each ROM version is always the same number as the default kernel, the only change being NCR -> 2WCR.

Am I using GB or JB?

Hey I'm gonna try to see if I can flash a kernel, not sure if I am unlocked bootloader yet but inputting the service nubmer doesn't work so I'm going to try to flash
But I'm not sure if I'm using JB or a GB skinned like JB.
It says Android version: 2.3.7
Kernel : 2.6.32.9
ROM Version: Gin2Jellybean v2.4.0
Build Number 4.0.2.A.0.
you are using gb
jb android version is 4.1+ but gb is 2.3.+
Thanks, thought so. So I've been on the right ROM for gaming all this time :good:
