I've searched for a topic like mine but I can't find one for the Epic.
I'm trying to flash Nebula Rom 1.0.7 after using Odin to get DK28 modem, then I root and install CWM. I then drag the Nebula zip onto the sd then power down the phone. I boot into CWM and choose the option to pick zip folder to install from. It goes through the paces and I get the "Nebula Rom installed successfully"
I then choose Reboot System from CWM menu. The phone shuts off, starts back up and sticks on the Samsung screen. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I followed the directions to the T and I also tried flashing Frankenstein Froyo using CWM3.0 and the same thing happened.
Please someone can you help me out. I thought I had a grasp on these things but apparently I'm missing something. What am I doing wrong?

Hey guys hope someone can help me out here. I just updated my phone to the latest OTA Rooted ROM and everything was working fine. Then I used Rom Manager to download the latest Fresh 3.0.?? ROM. When it downloaded it asked if I wanted to backup ROM and wipe data. I checked both on. Then phone rebooted and it wont get past white HTC Evo4G screen. I did vol down and power and I go to Recovey and again it freezes on this screen. I cant access my sd card to put any recovery stuff on the phone. How do I get past this?? This sucks

I had the same issue this morning loading the new Fresh Rom. "Stuck at White HTC EVO" screen. Just do a battery pull to restart your phone and let it boot up normally. It should be able to load after that.
Thanks a lot fuzion. I could have sworn I tried that last night but I guess I didn't. So I guess no Fresh ROM ?? Anyway to get it on ?
You could try loading one of the PC36IMG zips on your sd using an adapter to go back to stock and start over
Well I got my phone back on and working with the 2.2 OTA rooted back the way it was. I go into ROM manager and I made sure to do the ClockworkMod Recovery install. When I turn on the phone with vol down + power I select Recovery it just freezes on the Evo 4g screen. Never takes me to the recovery menu like I used to have. Anyone have any idea why??
Let's do a checklist:
1. Full root including NAND unlock (i.e. NOT Unrevoked)?
2. Installed and re-installed latest ROM Manager, and then latest CWM?
3. Copied Fresh 3.1.0.1 to root of SD card?
4. Booted into recovery using either CWM option or power+volume up?
5. You don't have an old PC36IMG.zip on your SD card, do you?
6. If you can get into recovery, do all your flashing from there, and DON'T FORGET to do data, cache, and dalvik wipes.
7. If all else fails, maybe use CWM to flash Amon RA instead and try that way.
8. If all THAT fails, go back to toast's guides and re-root everything.
Other long shots: Install Titanium Backup and use that to install BusyBox. I have no idea if this would help, maybe it's totally unrelated. Also, you could use an app called Quick Boot to reboot into recovery, but if selecting the reboot option from CWM doesn't work, I don't know why QB would.
And one more thing: Don't be throwing the term "bricked" around when you're clearly not even close to bricked.
I am trying to root my EVO. I once had it rooted and unrooted it...i think...with unrEVOked. I wanted to root the phone and install a custom rom again but I cant seem to get it to root.
I have tried unrEVOked(and followed all the easy steps to root on a forum....more then once), and once I got the initial screen were it sais to plug the phone in and make sure it has USBdebugging on, I do just that and nothing happens. so....
I tried to use Simple Root .1. Once again, found a forum on how to root with this program and followed the steps...more then once...and still no luck. With Simple Root I watched a video and in the video the prompt screen said that it was pushing a file to the phone and then it is suppose to go to the HBOOT screen....which does not happen on my phone, it skips that step and tells me to go to step 2, but I haven't completed step 1 yet....
------So that problem might not be a problem. I guess I AM still rooted. HBOOT screen sais S-OFF, but i dont have unrevoked on the phone anymore. I was told in another thread that I am still rooted and i need to find a flash recovery because when i go into recovery from HBOOT sceen it gives me a !red triangle!
So i guess my question is how do I go about getting a flash recovery and what do I have to do to acutally use that recovery instead of the stock recovery??
Also i was thinking about using the ROM "EVO ZONE" Any thoughts on that ROM??
Thanks!
dizl.evo
Im guessing you have the latest OTA? If so, you cannot root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176695
This is what i have figured out already.....
I also was doing a little poking around and figured out that i did not have a PC36IMG.zip on my SDcard. I just put it on my card and started HBOOT and now it is asking me if i want to start an update....yes or no?
If that is the recovery zip, then yes let it update
We're comin from a pure power source.
ok, after i do that will i still need to flash recover? or will i be able to find the custom rom then??
And does anybody know anything about the EVO Zone rom?
durring the update it has 11 things that it tries to update....all of them seem to update fine with the exception of number 8 and 9. both are labeled "TP". The first one does nothing and the second one sais it is bypassed. I've tried twice and it keeps bypassing. Is that suppose to happen??
BUMP...Does anybody know if there is anything i can do??
Thanks..
You probably ran a PC36IMG of an RUU or something other than a recovery. You can download Amon Ra recovery from my dropbox here: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
It's named properly, just delete the other PC36IMG from your SD card and replace it with this one. Run it through the bootloader the same way that you ran the other one. When it finishes, decline the prompt to reboot and select recovery from the list. You should see the white splashscreen then boot into Amon Ra 2.3.
As for the rom, I'm not familiar with it. If I were you, I'd flash a popular rom that you know is reliable. If you use the default Sense launcher, be sure to flash a Sense rom.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
I'll try to break this down for you as easily as possible.
1) s-off allows you to flash a custom recovery for installing roms. It means signature off which is to say you can install roms that have not been signed by HTC. This ability is critical to flashing and you're on the right track if you have it.
2) Currently your phone has no custom recovery on it, that's the red triangle bit. In order to get one on there, search the development section for the Amon_Ra recovery and download the PC36IMG.zip. Copy the zip to the main part of your SD card, then reboot and hold the volume key after the screen goes black. Your bootloader (the screen that tells you s-off or on) will automatically read and try to install the file.
Hit volume up for yes, let it do its thing then volume up again to reboot.
3) Hold volume down while rebooting to get into recovery. From here, go to usb mode. Copy your sdcard contents to your hard drive. Then turn off usb mode, go to wipe, and wipe it all 3 times. Go back to usb mode.
4) copy the Rom you want to flash to the sdcard and turn off usb mode again. Go into flash from zip, find your Rom and tell it to flash. Once this is complete, reboot and enjoy the new Rom.
Hope this helps you out.

So I decided to Root my phone using E4GTauto-fx and it worked great, gave me clockwork and all was well. I decided to try and install a custom rom and when i try to install from Recovery everything seems fine but when it finishes it doesnt automatically reboot the phone for me, so I have to wait for the option to go "back" appears the choose to reboot the phone and then it bricks and gets stuck on the samsung boot screen. I have thankfully found a way to recover but it puts me back to factory and then I have to do the whole root process over again. My phone is currently on 2.3.4 and EG30.
Ive tried practically every custom rom listed and each time get the same result.
Any ideas?
Thanks
The way I do it and works great every time I go back to stock is to Odin a stock kernel packed with CW, then I have the root zip on my SD card that I flash right after. No problems flashing anything after.
Oh, you're supposed to reboot after, it doesn't do it for you.

Maybe your root process did not take. I would go back to stock like you do and try one of the root processes with Odin. At that point you would have a rooted rom but no clockwork. Then my next step would be to use Odin to put CWM on there. I know it sux to use Odin but if your other methods have failed I suggest giving this a shot. Then try and use clockwork to flash a rom...

Which ROM are you flashing. Some ROMs are doing more involved changes and it is suggest you run a wipe so your existing setup doesn't have remnants that conflict with the new ROM.
There is a zip that does this for you at the bottom of Calkulin's ROM. You usually only need to do this when switching between different custom ROMs.
Can you provide me with a link where to get one that flashes thru Odin? I did this method the first time around and i got a annoying triangle with a exclamtion point at the bottom of the screen.
Hello,
I am a little confused here...
I've rooted my phone with auto root method. Downloaded Calkulin's "format" file, and rom itself.
But when i'm trying to apply format file, looks like it freezes, there is only a triangle with exclamation point and android on the screen, and nothing going on.
I had pull the battery out and reboot the phone.
Can you please tell me what i am doing wrong?

There are several things.
First, if you just wanted to be a root user, then you are done with installing 'auto root' package.
But if you want to flash the new ROM, then there are many ways doing that.
The easiest way is using self extracting odin package. Based on your description, I think you are trying to flash Calk's rom. If you are using his zip file, then you have to start your phone with recovery mode. volumn up + pwr button together will bring you to the recovery mode. If the recover mode is stock recovery, then you have to install CWM recovery or Rogue's recovery.
Once you finish the CWM recovery, go to the recovery mode again. It will show different recovery screen and from there, run Calk's format all zip file.
Most important thing is, you need to nandroid backup your current rom and data through the CWM recovery. So, you could go back if something goes wrong.
One more thing is, you need to know what you are doing and right procedure to flash the Rom. There are lots of great information about this in this forum. So, before doing anything, read what you need carefully. That will save your time a lot.

Thank you for this. I thought that i am familiar with procedure, never had a problem with EVO
Can you point me to the right CWM recovery?
Looks like i got it, thank you kobridge!
I went through the normal procedure of installing a new ROM, I wiped w/factory reset, got hit with a "status 7" error. I looked it up and it's apparently a problem with conflicting recovery manager files. That makes sense because I have CWM recovery and it asked me to install TWRP. I guess you can't have both?
I followed a tutorial explaining how to edit the userscript file to bypass the error and it seemed like it was going to install at first but I still got hit with it. Now my computer doesn't recognize my s3 (d2spr) so I have to put the files on an external microSD. I tried to restore from CWM but it wouldn't let me. I'm pretty new to this stuff so I'm not sure how to proceed from here.
Your best option is Odin back to stock and start over again.
