Is the text in the browser really bad or is it just me. If I'm not zoomed in it is unreadable. I know the resolution isn't as great as the iPhone 4 but it's worse than my old 3GS. Weird. It's the same complaint I had with the Captivate. WP7 is much better than Android however. Really digging it. Not sure it can replace my iPhone but I like the OS overall.
I've got the device with the smallest screen (Quantum - 3.5") and I never really notice that. Although I zoom in to certain levels no matter what site it is. I have to wonder if maybe you're browsing as a "Desktop", and not zooming in?
Text just does not compare to my iPhone 4 no matter what. Still love the UI.
What phone do you have?
Samsung Focus. Just not a fan of AMOLED screens. IPS for the win.
Pretty sure it's due to the pentile matrix AMOLED display that Samsung uses. Renders text fuzzier
http://jonchoo.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-omnia-7-pentile-amoled-display.html
I agree there's a noticeable difference between the iP4 and a samsung focus with regards to text that is zoomed out
Well I have a Focus and iPhone too. Even when I zoom pretty far out with the Focus I can see things perfectly legible. Maybe you've been spoiled by the Retina Display or maybe it's your device. It could even be the font that IE8 uses which is a little harder to read then it should be when small. I suggest maybe using double tap on a block of text to automatically format. Hope this helped.
The point is on my iPhone 4 I can read the text without zooming in. Pages on the focus look like my old Windows Mobile phone before zooming in....like garbage. I think IE is part of the problem. Text in the rest of the OS does not look so bad.

Name a site you're talking about, I wanna see what you mean...
This thread for example. Zoom all the way out so the entire page is displayed in portrait orientation. Half the text is unrecognizable. Especially small text. I have no issue zooming in to read. It just looks crappy coming from my iPhone 4. Still enjoying the device and can't wait for the updates. Till then I'll use part time when I'm bored.
Just checked it out. I see what you mean with the smaller text. But the posts and names are pretty easily visible, at least to me. But I see what you mean, if you're used to being able to see it all, going to this where you can't would be looked on as a step down.
Just hard to get used to. Can't wait to see the OS mature.

sAMOLED is actually worse than Super LCD screens for text (PenTile, etc.). sAMOLED+ is supposed to be better.
iPhones have great text rendering because the screen is good and the pixel density is extremely high.
Don't have any text issues at all on the HD7.
Also, perhaps iOS renders text bigger when the page is zoomed out all the way, because the screen is too small for it to be more legible on completely zoomed out pages even with a much higher pixel density. Everything is smaller on an iPhone screen when you're zoomed out to full page view.
I do notice some text gets "bolded" in IE at some sites when you are zoomed out fully, but I cannot even fathom reading an iOS screen with a page fully zoomed out. It's just too small.
The only way I can see that happening, is if iOS' Safari Browser actually enlarges the text to a readable size when the page is fully zoomed out.
Sorry, I just think you're sensationalizing it a bit...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC40NjgpLkk
Sensationalizing it? Not sure what that video has to do with anything. I have both phones in hand and the same page zoomed all the way out on an iPhone 4 has very clear clean text. The Samsung Focus is a bunch of garbled graphics. I zoom both in and the Samsung Focus is readable just fine. I don't read the text in the iPhone 4 zoomed out either but can tell what it is very clearly. No enlarging of text going on either.
BTW my iOS screen zoomed all the way out on my iPad works great. Can't imagine you not being able to fathom that.

Guys,
Anyone noticed that the quality of the photos on the internet is really poor and badly pixelated? especially when you zoom in
Also when you import photos from the computer and view them, they too are really bad quality?
My iphone seems to not have this issue at all
is there a work around or solution? i seem to remember this issue with the HTC HD and some otehr devices too, but thats was a long while ago
the camera is 5mpix but its only 72dpi. hence grainy and pixelated. They need to be scaled down to look decent enough
terrible! whats the darn point of that?
i have to say iphone is the most solid phone out there at the moment! they launch 1 phone and get it almost flawless and here we are years and years of development with HTC and they still cant get it right.
only reason i bought this was i was bored of the iphone, but i have to say i may end up going back.

It's not a DSLR, it's pretty standard to have to shrink down digital images so that they look better.
all networks compress the **** out of pictures onthe internet to save bandwidth. They have to do this because of all the iphones out there which apple insist must not get compressed data.
that's why we all hate iphones
not sure i get it exactly,
are you asking about the photos that have been taken by the Desire camera and shown on the net?
or by any picture on the net and you are viewing them using the browser/gallery of the desire?
i just went on facebook websie and all pictures look fine for me ?
I know exactly what the OP means. I have the same problem- when photos are zoomed in on in webpages, even on Wifi, they are grainy on all websites, and as someone mentioned there is no such problem on the iPhone( I still definitely prefer my Desire, though).

I see, maybe its just from the browser, .. have you tried Opera Mini 5?
and could you give us an example page with grainy pictures ?
I have this problem as well. In fact it's not just photos but ALL images. Even going to the Google home page and zooming in is awful. My old Dream has much better image quality.
I used to notice this on my g1 but not on my desire.
I know what causes it. the data is compressed for improved speed but when you compress images (excluding progressive gifs) the quality is effected.
this will only happen via data, not WiFi. interestingly it will also happen on your pc if using usb tether.
as I say, I don't get this on my desire but I am on a special unlimited data package with no fair use policy so maybe they stopped the hardcore compression on my account.

I wonder if this is an isolated incident...
If this was a widespread problem, surely more people would have raised this concern...
I've never had this grainy-image problem ever on any of my HTC devices (ie, Touch Dual, Diamond, Touch Pro2, and Desire). (well, maybe on the Touch Dual but that's because it has a QVGA display).
In fact, when displaying the same image on my iPod Touch, the iPod Touch looks more grainy than my Desire (either zoomed in or out). I attribute this to the difference in screen resolution.
Using the default browser (using -30dBm WiFi) I've certainly noticed the same with online pictures and videos - extremely low quality and heavily pixelated (actually, I would more appropriately call it a large paintbrush smudge) - this aggravates steeply when zoomed in. The media gallery is only a little better but the overall clarity, color reproduction and quality is very poor (compared to PC monitors). In the multimedia (aggregate) department this phone doesn't come anywhere near close to the last 3 N series Nokias I've owned; far inferior to my 3.5 year old N95 too. It was a tradeoff I knew of before taking this on though. It doesn't get any better using mobile networks, for which, I'm also on an unlimited (FUP) data plan [T-mobile].

Hmm... some of the low res pics seem perfectly fine on mine. Like this one: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4e/Wasp_ocelli.JPG

I`ve found that the default browser & dolphin browser heavily compress the jpeg images that are downloaded to increase speed of download. Opera Mini on the other hand keeps the original size.
For example a photo on the bbc site is only 2.8k on the default browser compared to 22k on opera.
I`ve also noticed it on graphics that have gradients, instead of a smooth gradient in the browser you may only see 4 or 5 bands of colour, this is down again to the heavy compression. Opera again does a better job and looks nearer a desktop quality.
Only problem is Opera isnt as easy to navigate around as the default browser, so I dont tend to use it that often.
Just done another test, it seems the quality of images is set to low on the first load of the webpage. If you hit refresh the images will be much better quality.
Shame theres no setting to disable this ie quality over speed for browsing.
It's only me, or Netflix looks like crap on WP7? I just got the phone yesterday and one of the things that push me to get the phone was the ability to have Netflix... but after several movies,, I saw that the quality is very bad, it's like is not using the full Color scale. The movies look like is using a 16M color pallete... is that the way its looks? I tried over wifi and 3g and it was the same
I've noticed the first couple of minutes are pixelated, but then it smooths out and runs fine. I haven't noticed any color problems with it. What device are you using it on?

Yeah, this is my experience as well. Something to keep in mind is that the Samsung AMOLED phones (Omnia 7 and Focus) have some color banding, so if whatever you're watching has a lot of gradients, then it may look worse than it would on other devices. In my experience with my Focus, I haven't had too many problems with the colors looking bad.
I use the Surround and have been satisfied 100%. Occasionally it gets pixelated due to bandwidth but never any color issues.
I havent been color problems in Netflix. Looks good on the screen resolution.

I have the Samsung Focus.
I'm not talking about been pixelated, resolution wise it's looks good,, the issue is with the coloring . is like netflix is using a less than a 16bit color pallete,, take you computer screen for example, go to the properties and change your color to 16bit or less and you'll see what I'm taking about... is the gradients

I guessing its a super amoled problem then as others haven't had this.
I found this article,, it confirms what I was trying to explain... and I though I was getting a better display going with samsung instead of HTC..., but I think part of the issue is due to WP7 , I used to have a Galaxy S and never notice the color banding issue.

Let me assure you that the Galaxy S also has horrible color banding. Well, the ones I've used do as well. All AMOLED screens do, to some extent. Gradients end up looking reeeaaally bad, which is why I'm sticking with LCD until the technology improves.
Sorry bud, it's not Netflix's fault. Blame Samsung. Hopefully it can be fixed with a software update.

The galaxy s phones that you've used have all been duds then because its definitely not a problem with amoled in general. The pentile "pixel" arrangement may make them look a little less sharp, but there is no color banding on android.
That definitely looks like a wp7 software issue as the article says.

lol you guys must be on crack i have a focus and i see no issues while watching netflix. the beginning is pixelated for the first 30 secs or so and then the image is perfect hd quality. theres no comparing the image quality on this phone to one of an lcd.

well, if it's only on the amoled displays, sounds like a samsung problem. Have you tried to exchange it and see if its better?
And how would you notice it on a galaxy s phone? Android doesn't have netflix.
Funny, because I'm typing this from an Android phone with an Amoled display and if I view an image - video or still - that has color gradients I get the same color banding as shown in that article.
Believe me, it's an AMOLED thing, and can be fixed if programs run in 24 bit. Most don't, though, which is why LCD displays are better in my view
wanted to chime in that netflix looks pretty awesome w/ 3g on my LG Quantum
Yeah,, I guess is not a Netflix issue,,, but using netflix was when I first notice the issue because netflix use 16bit... is a combination of WP7 and Amoled, WP7 could have reduce the banding issue by using dithering but they did not... When I had my Galaxy S running Android I never noticed that issue and I had the phone for 6 months... even my wife's iPhone3gs looks better on netflix..., I guess I will have to get used to it... since of all other WP7 phones on At&t the Focus has the better Camera.
I saw the article at Pocketnow...in the link below...that compared the photo quality of the camera and maximum zoom and the Focus, among the HTC Inspire 4G and iPhone 4, was said to be the best. My question: is it??
Since I have a WP7 device (HTC HD7), an Android phone (DesireHD ROM on HD2) and an iPhone 4, I decided to see for myself. I took all 3 pics of each category from the same spot and the Android and WP7 were left fully auto. The iPhone 4 needed to have the flash set to "On" because it wouldn't flash while set on "Auto" because the lighting conditions didn't really call for it. I also took an outside, or daylight, pic of each phone to compare under non-flash conditions.
From my view, the WP7 device took the best pics at the relative zoom. However, because the Android didn't zoom nearly as close as the other 2, it came out looking like the best pics. How it would compare at the same relative zoom as the others is anyone's guess.
The iPhone 4 has the highest zoom level, but the pics are washed out badly. The WP7 has the next highest zoom level and the pics, though lacking detail and clarity, are much better colored. Because the Android has such a low amount of zoom, I needed to crop the inside pic. But it is unaltered in any other way.
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/which-phone-has-the-best-digital-zoom-video
Woah that last picture from WP7 (the one outside) looks really cool/strange/weird! It's like it's made of pastels/crayons or something (look at the grass!). I didn't realize Android couldn't zoom that much (never owned an Android phone myself) either.
When I was comparing my Focus and iPhone 4 I did find that the zoom was better on the Focus. I also found the flash to be brighter on the Focus, but didn't take as good pictures in absolute darkness (it was just for a test) as the iPhone 4 which was kinda weird. Without zoom I think the pictures were on par with each other/the Focus being better. The only advantage I see is that the iPhone 4 has the built in HDR feature, while with the Focus I had to open an app and then apply the filter which took much longer to do.
Thank you for taking these pictures! Microsoft really did a good job with the cameras in the phones. Samsung has a lot of built in features for the camera application making it very versatile, I just wish it would remember your damn settings when you came back to it!
Bear in mind of course that none of these phones actually has a zoom. All it is doing is cropping the image and then blowing it up on the screen. It's called "Digital" zoom as opposed to the proper "Optical" zoom, and it is completely, utterly pointless.
You would be far better off taking a full size pic and then manually cropping it on your PC afterwards.
The only thing putting me off the note 2 is the smaller screen resolution. I can imagine apps like the samsung calendar must be less usable. Also I find 800 pixels is a dream resolution for viewing internet pages.
For those that switched from the note 1 how are you finding it?
Is the less dpi really that noticeable? I'm actually very excited about the new aspect ratio as I watch a lot of movies on my phone

Finally a thread like this
It's really annoying in some situations but then you launch a video and your stunned.
You browse, somehow less good, it's quite noticeable when you had Note 1 but then the screen is so much better in ALL other aspects.
Then you get no problems with app compatibility due to the more standard resolution. You see more webapps and games thought for 720p.
So wrapping up, I guess I'll get use to it and with all the other goodies on Note 2 it's worth the upgrade: amazing batterie life (doubled), screen colour and brightness, speed and great sound.
I'll keep the nostalgy of the original Note owner though :<

Isn't the one lesser column of icons also the result of less horizontal pixel? Yes I agree the screen is much better, but I don't suppose it's just for web viewing. There are the utilitarian point of view to this. I would imagine people who used to have certain amount of icons on a single page and then suddenl reduce would feel negatively. It's like taking a feature out. I am coming from an Epic 4G so I got no bone to pick on this just voicing another valid PoV that some people didn't see.
Sometimes I'll do something and my brain will go, 'that looks a bit odd', because I remembered how it was before.
But you'll get over it. The Note 2 is THAT much better.
- Frank
The OnePlus 3T has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
How do you find the sRGB-mode? I dont like it at all. The colours are not colourful any more in that mode. I find custom mode full warm the best though...

Same, custom mode with full warm is my fav so far. Whites in other modes looks little blueish to me.
At first I thought S-RGB mode to be very bland in comparison with the default's vibrant colours. But after trying out the S-RGB for a day straight I don't want the default anymore xD
Everything seems much more realistic, accurate, not overly saturated, and even soothing/calmer with S-RGB. Default now gives off a wacky vibe, like I'm high or something
Edit: Tried custom full warm like the posts above, but I don't like it during the day. At night it is good, but still prefer the S-RGB for most of the day.
I really dislike the screen of the OP3T and I'm probably going to return mine because of it.
Unfortauntely I can't post an image comparison I made but you can probably see it for yourself: get some app with sharp edges in the UI and black on white text (Now for reddit, for example), you'll notice a bit of color fringing around the text, typically some green above and purple below the characters' lines. This makes text look somewhat out of focus and uncomfortable to read.
It really sucks compared to my Nexus 5's IPS screen, sure more vibrant colors but what use is that if it can't display text in a readable form?
Too bad, I really like the rest of the phone. Now I'll have to go back and look for another affordable dual sim high-spec phone.
(This is my second OP3T after I returned the first one believing this was a manufacturing defect, after some looking around it seems to be a result of the screen being a PenTile AMOLED display at a too low resolution for the size)
i now have a huawei p9 with 1080p ips lcd and 5,2". i like the uniformity and the "sharp edges" (no pentile matrix) of the display.
anyone in the same boat and did a "downgrade" to the OP3T amoled screen?
i`m a little bit afraid of uneven gray level (yellow on one side) and fuzzy fonts which are not so comfortable readable as on a lcd display.
l like the phone specs but worried about the low resolution screen - anyone have this and the s7 edge and can compare the screens ?
sRGB mode is really great in my opinion --> the calibration in this mode is great, so you can be sure, that everything on the web and in apps looks as the creator intended, as sRGB is for the time being the "standard" color profile.
I have no problem with the pentile matrix and 1080p resolution --> while I can notice a difference in sharpness compared to the OPO with its 1080p IPS display, the display of the OP3T is all around great. I would put the sharpness of the OP3T around the sharpness of the iPhone7 (non plus) with its 326ppi.
The sRGB mode on the OP3 is way better.. The OP3T sRGB mode is definitely pretty washed out with a lot more yellow tint..
I'm sure one plus can tweak that.. Nothing inherently wrong with the screen coz I think they're the same..

I'm calling BS on this one. Smells like a troll...
I just got OnePlus 3t for a week. The screen sharpness look okay to me, I have s6 and s7 edge to compare and I can't see any pixel in these phone except both samsungs look sharper. The only complaint here is that the screen panel doesn't look very black when see in daylight and not as vivid/warm, compare to my iPhone 6s. But custom setting to nearly full warm help a lot.
I use to be afraid of the pentile 1080p too, but now I can say it look very great.
I'm disappointed in the clarity of the screen, it looks quite pixelated and grainy to me. I can't understand why OP didn't go for a QHD in the 3T
I preffer 1920x1080 in my 3T, the screen has a lot of quality in my opinion, I don't want anymore.
I don't like the screen at all, it just isn't as sharp as other phones compared to today's standards its not great. Im quite let down by it.

Agreed, I'm used to using 2k screen phones and I'm perhaps being a bit OCD about it. The 3T screen isn't bad by any means, I can just see the difference from my old 2k phones which is annoying me. I'm also noticing the PWM on the screen and that's something I've not noticed in phones since I had my old Note 4.

Exactly, I totally agree with you
Such an amazing phone but the 1080 pentile is ugly, you're only getting an effective resolution of around 900p because of it. I feel the phone is spoiled a lot because of this.
sRGB mode is a must also on this panel.
Coming from a Moto X Pure, which has a 1440p display, I can definitely tell the difference, especially when I resize my desktop icons using Nova Launcher, with the display set to small on Nougat. This phone however is blazing fast compared to the Pure, so I'll be getting used to the display and set my icons to a somewhat smaller size (120% instead of 130%.)
I have no reason to root this thing either, except for a custom kernel with KCAL support and using Kernel Adiutor-Mod. None of the sRGB settings are good enough for me. I need Samsung-like bleeding color settings.
EDIT: Solved the blurry icons with Nova by disabling the "Normalize icon size" option.
