I put a new sd card in my phone. I had everything backed up on my titanium backup. I also had backups for my ROM which was Redemptive Rom 2.2. . I flashed a new Rom. Well I screwed up and had a brain fart. Well I tried to partition my sd card, well when I did I lost everything I had. My market does not work either!! It won't let me download anything!! I can't find anything that I had on my sd card at now!!
Can someone please tell me what I can do?
1. Well if you SD card has nothing on it, then it's gone, unless you've made a backup and have it saved to your computer (good to do in case this happens). You could remove the SD card and hook it up to your computer through a USB card reader or if your computer has a reader built in, and see if things show up there.
2. What ROM did you flash?
3. The Market is tied to your Google account, so any purchased apps you have you'll be able to download again, they'll say Purchased under My Apps in the Market. You'll just need to redownload everything. Try clearing the Market cache, run fix permissions in ROM Manager, and reboot.
The things you had on the SD are gone, and unrecoverable.
Recommend d/l and install Virtuous from ROM Manager, set if up fully, then back it up so you have a 'stock' rom to fall back on.
Copy this Virtuous backup from your SD to your PC.
Then d/l and set up the ROM you'd like to run. Back it up as well.
Going forward, - back up SD card contents to PC every couple weeks - no help for what you had, but a tremendous lesson for the future. Tough learning, but a valuable and best practice for modding devices.

Did you try downloading a ROM from your PC and transfering it to your SD card using an sd reader? If your phone was still able to boot into recovery you could've flashed a fresh new ROM and your problem should have been solved.

I have so much junk on my SD card from deleted apps, ROM downloads, original root zips. I want to format the card to get rid of the junk. I realize that it will wipe out some current data. I can reinstall that on a selected basis. What would be the proper way... Format? Re-Download and flash ROM.
Im running CM6 RC1 with Nightlys
Thanks in advance
I would just back up the data that you know you'd want (maybe pictures, or folders of certain apps) then just format the SD card. I'm not sure if there's "mission-critical" stuff in there nowadays, since Froyo lets you use the SD card a lot more (to store apps among other things), that would be up to you I think.
But you shouldn't have to flash the ROM again. I'm waiting until 32GB micro SD cards are cheaper then I'm just going to change my 8 with that.

I thought this would be a great idea the first time i looked at my sd card and realized it was halfway full after 1 day with my evo, so i backed up my photos and videos and music formatted it and installed a rooted rom, the only problem is, that flashing a rom full (rooted or unrooted, I tried both) none of the folders on the sd card get recreated, which causes a problem when taking your fist few pics, and it then lumps all photos and videos into the same folder, kinda creates a messier sdcard than I had originally anticipated, wished i had imaged the card first so i could put everything back where it belonged, even if it was just a blank folder, but thats just my 2 cents
hi all,
as i was testing my new desire using the 4gb card it came with, i did all the rooting with that card in, am now running on defrost 3.1 and all my mods are done.
I tried to partition my other 8gb card using the rom manager on another phone as my phone wont run without the sd card in, then once that was done, i cloned the cards ie copied the data on my mac, then copied it off to the new card.
started the phone with the new card but most features of defrost are not available and alot of the apps are missing.
now when you go to the application manager, it shows you where stuff is installed but it says they are on the phone, presume this is cos a2sd is more of a tricking the phone than a physical change of location for the installed apps
anyway, so my question is, can you change the sd card without re installing the rom?
thank you in advance
anyone????

sorry mate didnt see this till now. in short no.
your phone should work without an sd in it, format the 8gb card use rom manager to partition or use AmonRa fake flash to partition (i prefer this way) and start over again. i know its a pain but its the safest way to do it.
i personally wiped everything on sd and phone so there was no partition and nothing on the phone, then i flashed my rom (dont do any mods yet) then either using amonra or rom manager, partition the phone may take a while to boot up but just LEAVE IT. then do everything again ie mods and apps. long i know but like i said its the safest way also you cant **** anything up.
hope this helps
I'm currently on CM7 which I flashed over Nightly #38. I'm liking it, but I get some reboots and stuff, so I want to do a fresh flash after wipe.
However, I'd also really like to format my SD card to clear any bad sections on it and hopefully prevent it from getting corrupt (just as a housecleaning item). I figure I also might as well update to the latest clockwork recovery at the same time.
Could someone put down some instructions on how to do these things safely, or post a link? I'm not sure if formatting the SD card will screw with Clockwork recovery, or what order I should do things in, how to do them, etc. REALLY don't want to brick my phone in trying to do the right things!

1 - Download ROM to SD Card.
2 - Copy the contents of your SD card to your computer, so you have a backup!! Very important!!
3 - Update to the latest CWM recovery.
4 - You can have your phone format your SD card, or if your computer has a SD card reader you can format it from your computer. I've done both, with no ill effects.
5 - After the format, boot up the phone and copy the SD card backup that you copied to your computer back to your SD card. Reboot into recovery, and flash the ROM you want to install.
Good luck!
EDIT: The one issue I did run into was when I formatted my new SD card with my computer. I copied my files over from my computer to my SD card, put the SD card into the phone, then booted it. The phone deleted (maybe reformatted...?) the contents of the SD card, and that is why making a back up is so important! I was able to just copy the files back over, and that issue was a one-and-done issue.
Thank you, but I should have been a little clearer in my OP...
I'd really like to just start from scratch with my SD card, i.e. clean it off and start from new. I will be sure to back up the current files that are on there, but there's a lot of crap I don't need and rather than sort through it all, I figure I'll just format and then add stuff back on that I find I need. How do I do that safely? Are things that MUST be present at all times for Clockwork to function, or whatever?
Also, why would I add the ROM on before formatting - won't the formatting just erase the file?
I probably was confusing here: I thought adding the ROM to the SD before formatting, you could then copy everything over off the SD card. You can certainly just d/l the ROM to your computer and copy it over that way too.
CWM needs the clockworkmod folder, which is where things live including any ROM backups you may have.
Depending on the apps you have installed, they may have created a folder. If you don't have those apps but have those folders, you can delete them if they don't contain anything you need. There are folders there that Android will create upon first boot with a freshly formatted SD card.
EDIT: I adjusted my prior post with *hopefully* steps that aren't confusing.
i have been having major issues with my evo. where to start, really...
i have virus rom 2.2 rooted, apps2sd, etc...
i've been having issues with my evo being recognized by my computer when plugged into the usb port. i never used to have issues and this is a seemingly random thing that has started to happen.
i wanted to load some music onto my sd card and popped it out of my evo to plug it into my computer. unfortunately, my power button has been sticking on the evo and for whatever reason i put the battery back in after taking out my sd card. the phone reset, then couldn't recognize any of my apps that had been stored on the sd card. i put the card back into my phone and reset again but it refuses to believe any of the apps are available. i've lost access to market, appbrain, etc., and cannot re-download. when i log into my google account to redownload appbrain it will not let me because the website says i still have it installed.
i hope i explained this well enough. i've never had any problem like this before. my phone has essentially become useless because i cannot access any programs on it. any suggestions how to recover? unfortunately my last nandroid backup was in december. i've used titanium and lookout to backup since, but both are now missing. if there's any way i can recover my data (pictures, web history, text history, call history, address book, etc...) and then do a wipe and repartition my sd card/get market back, i'm willing to do it, i just have no idea how. any help is appreciated.
bump in case anyone can help, thanks
So hold on...you can't access you SD card on your EVO but you can when you stick it into the computer...because if that's the case and you can see the files on your computer still, I would back up everything on you SD card and then format your card from the computer...I had this very problem a couple months ago...and I recommend to put apps that you want to access easily (browser, market, voice, mail, etc...) on your phone memory...that way you can still use them if it ever happens again...that's just my 2 cents...
But anyways I recommend formatting your card and reloading the files onto it...fixed it for me

the apps that were on my SD card are the only things that have gone missing from it. it is as though they never existed... i don't even know how the marketplace ever got saved onto my sd card, but it's gone.
The apps are on the SD ext.when you took out the SD and the phone rebooted, you apps weren't there......follow the post above you should he good.or you can pit the card in wipe everything and reflash the Rom.....

Im sorry, i know this topic has come up a thousand timed but i still have found no solid answer. I am on Wicked rom right now. I went into recovery to flash the new rom but team recovery wont show the zip files on my sd card. After trying some other things and different sd cards in many different sizes and classes,( formated in every ay by phone and computer) now i have noticed nothing including root explorer wont see zip files. sometimes it will show pictures or music but not usually. usually the phone wont even see the card at all. I have heard everything from reformat to the springs that hold the card are worn and need to be bent back to class 10 (which is what I used since i got it) wont work with the s3 to 64 gigs wont work.I should also mention that TWRP wont let me so anything at all. It wont back up rom weather its on internal or external and usually it wont even let me go to external when i try to change it. I don't have enough room on the phone to back up with titanium and TWRP wont t me do a back up either, I am basically stuck on he rom in on with no sd card capabilities. My phone is starting to act up and I really need a new rom ( not that I dont love the Wicked rom) and also get rid of the bugs i'm starting to get. I know this sounds confusing and Im not sure how well I did explaining it but I could really use some help. I have no problem if it would be easier to explain in person if you think you know whats going on or how to fix it you can IM me and I will give you my phone number so we can talk in person. I would really appreciate any help and I will be sure to hit "thanks"

HMMM try another sd card if you can. I had a similar issue and thought that my phone screwed up but it wasnt my phone it was my sd card. if you dont have another sd card try the one that wont work in the computer and see if your computer reads it.

I have tried a 2 gig 4, 8, 26, 32, and 64, brand new ones, ones I have used to phone to try to reformat, also tried windows 7 to reformat and also Ubuntu partition editor. it seems no matter what I do it just wont see an sd card. every great once and a while it will let me see the pics and music but that it, no Titanium, no recoveries, and especially no zip files with roms. it wont even let me create a nandroid and the ones I have it wont let me get to, I feel like im stuck on this rom with no external mem.
OK seems like you may need a warranty exchange if you have insurance. OK On this phone I noticed that new cwm recovery do nandroid backups on the internal memory. So if you can still mount that to the PC. Put your SD card with an attachment to your PC. Move the backup you made from clockworkmod folder to the clockworkmod in internal memory. If you don't have that folder on internal memory. Moved it all. Newest cwm u can restore a back from internal memory. And there you have it. But if it still can't seem to read the SD card. You may need to have another phone or repair that one.

I use TWRP but with them too you can use either the internal or external. The problem is when I try to put a backup on either on it fails every time. Im gonna to have to just use my warranty and get a new one t looks like. Whats going to happen when they see the phone is rooted, Maybe I should just say I lost it because I would still like to keep the phone in case one day I get really bored and tear it apart (im an electronics tech) and see if I can fix it. IDK, if anyone has any advise I appreciate it. And thanks Gypsy
Thats a lot of money for a lost fee. It would be a lot better if you can brick it. They wouldn't know lol I had done warranty exchanged before with a htc phone with s-off and they never said a thing
