[Q] ViperRom 4.0.4 RTST Proxy, HTTPPD Proxy question - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to access the 3G proxy settings to disable the block on iheartradio and other streaming apps and the ##3282# code no longer seems to work to access the streaming media proxy settings...
Is there any way to access this settings on this rom? I had it set on the previous versions...
i would post in the development section, but i lurk more than ask...not enough posts to put it in the right spot.

Viper has removed TONS of the background apps (in running service) to increase battery. I think the problem with ##3283# is the Dialer App. It's a different app pre-installed on Viper. It's still sexy, though.

Thanks!
Love the Viper style, but man, thats annoying. I can stream these all from WunderRadio, but it just isn't quite as clean/stable as iHeart.
Oh, well..on to the back up plan, which is more of a Plan A-1 as opposed to B.

Opera mobile not working over wifi

I have T-mobile TP2 with 6.5 stock rom. I just add data plan to my phone recently. I notice that my opera mobile will not work any more if connect via wifi but it works with 3g connection. Skyfire, skype and all other programs work with both wifi and 3g connection.
I have opera mobile 9.7 and just install opera mobile 10. Both of them cannot load any page with wifi connection. I also uncheck everything under proxy setting in config menu.
Any suggestions to fix this problem?
Thank you
I have the same problem. If I find out something, I will post it here.
Make that three of us
Please post if you find anything.
Thanks
Yes, Please. Just discovered this today. IE isn't working either. Yes, I disabled the proxy. Other internet apps working fine, just not my browsers.
Use Skyfire It's Better Than PIE & Opera IMO!!!
One can only assume if none of the other browsers are working that skyfire would't work either haha
Worth a shot. Also.. I dont know if you've tried but back up all your info (contacts and whatever else) and do a hard reset. Then test and see if that fixes it.. I would say with 100% certainty that it will.
Then just load back on all your ap's.
Drastic but beats sitting around waiting for someone to happen stumble across the thread that has a fix.
Going to hard reset in the morning. Got some other broke stuff from trying out too many cabs, so might as well. Been getting a lot of error reports the past 2 days, too. Will report back.
Well Skyfire & PIE Work Perfectly Over Wifi For Me Opera On The Other Hand Works When It Wants 2 Over Wifi
OK, I hard reset and this is still not working. No Opera or PIE over Wifi. Any clues? I really don't want to install another browser if I don't have to. Alos, can't find the cab to make Opera exit on X instead of running in the background.

Man Trust Me Just Use Skyfire You'll Never Turn Back To Another Browser Ever Again!!!
I had Skyfire on my Incite and didn't like it. Why do I need to login to an account to use a browser? The stuff that came on the phone that is taking up space on the ROM should be able to work with both Wifi and MediaNet. No reason for it not to.
Have you guys tried using any other builds of Opera 9.7? There are a lot of different builds available here on XDA. Just search up "Opera Thread" and you'll end up with a thread containing links to download most, if not all, releases of Opera 9.5, 9.7, and 10.
If it were just an Opera problem, I might try that. But it is a problem with PIE, as well. That leads me to believe it is a Tilt 2 issue.

I have done the changes, tested IE, Opera, Google, Bing on AT&T 3G network (H with the .cab) and wi-fi, and everything works great! My speeds have jumped over 1.5mpbs consistently with the outlined changes, and all internet data apps are extremely responsive now. Youtube downloads load in less than 10 seconds, and no jumpiness. MobileTV is the same now, before, kept buffering or got distorted every 15-20 seconds.
Credit goes to Vendetta in AT&T forum:
Here's what I learned while getting the HTC YouTube application included in the OEM AT&T ROM to work perfectly.
The value in the registry needs to be modified:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\YouTube
ProxyName = wireless.cingular.com:80 (default value) needs to be replaced with [BLANK].
This value is intermittently restored, so it is nececssary to change a few others to prevent that.
The value at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SUN\JVM\PRELOADAPP
proxy = wireless.cingular.com:80 (default value) needs to be replaced with [BLANK].
The value at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4 C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{436EF144-B4FB-4863-A041-8F905A62C572}
Proxy = wireless.cingular.com:80 (default value) needs to be replaced with [BLANK].
The value at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Apps\Esmertec Java\Properties
com.sun.midp.io.http.proxy = wireless.cingular.com:80 (default value) needs to be replaced with [BLANK].
Changing these three values will prevent the YouTube proxy from being restored. However, this will prevent the Opera Browser from connecting when the phone is connected via Wi-Fi. In order to fix this, the value at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Defaults
ByPassProxyForNonGPRS = 1 (default value) needs to be changed to 0

I Had a similar problem. my opera mobile wouldn't work unless I opened internet explorer first. I saw this in another thread and it worked for me. Maybe it'll work for you too. (had to delete the link since I am still a "new" account)

AT&T MEdia Net Issues

I was having issues with my MEdia Net on AT&T. Every so often I would get the message that "The remote party has ended this connection" and when I would try to edit the MEdia Net settings to make sure they were good I would see "The connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified."
It turns out that settings \\HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\MEdia Net\ReadOnly to 0 allows editing of the connection and then removing the username and password that are specified for the MEdia Net connection makes the connection more stable.
I wanted to put the solution I found in one concise place as I had to dig around quite a bit to find this answer.
In case you want to add back in the username and password for some reason they are [email protected] and CINGULAR1. See http://208.74.204.154/t5/forums/for...age-id/53168/print-single-message/true/page/1 for more information.
I have also included a CAB that will turn off the read only setting for MEdia Net in case you won't want to have to mess with the registry. I hope this helps someone.
UPDATE: I also found that my settings kept setting to ims.cingular randomly for an unknown reason, which of course breaks my connection. I could reset my phone to get it back to wap.cingular, but that is a pain. I therefore deleted all the other connections on my phone using the Connections applet in Settings. Under the Advanced tab you can choose Select Networks, then Edit every network in the list except for MEdia Net and delete it from the General tab. Then just make sure that both the Internet and Private Network settings are set to MEdia Net and you should be good.
UPDATE 2: The problem of my settings reverting back to ims.cingular continues to happen randomly. I searched my registry for any instances of ims.cingular and found one at HCLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS\APN which I changed to wap.cingular and updated the CAB file below to make that change as well.
UPDATE 3: The problem continued. When seems to have fixed it for good was to delete the MEdia Net settings and then to add the settings to My ISP. The only thing that needs to be set is an access point name of wap.cingular. There is no username and password. That change has worked for over a week for me now. You'll still need the cab below to unlock MEdia Net so you can delete it.
UPDATE 4: The problem still came back. The latest thing I tried was to change the name of the connection to Cingular instead of the standard MEdia Net. That seems to have worked for a few weeks now. I also made the same change to my wife's phone and that seems to be better as well. The attached CAB will make the connection editable and then you can rename it on your own.
THANKYOU!
You saved my butt on this one. I was helping an end user of ours on a HTC Tilt 2. The AT&T Tech's insisted that troubleshooting this problem was going through and clearing out the cookies, cache, and history inside the Opera Browser.
What a total crock of .... I kept explaining to her that it's the DATA CONNECTION not THE FRIGGIN INTERNET BROWSER.
Anyways, simply running the attached cab to allow me to edit the media net settings let me correct the ims.cingular setting which solved the entire problem right away.
After clearing those 3 settings in Opera both techs insisted that to fix it I had to do a hard reset. I was furious. I knew they were taking the easy way out of it and I wasn't about to tell this guy that is billed out at over $300 an hour that AT&T was too lazy to properly fix the problem so we just had to reset the entire phone and all your stuff is lost.

4G Tethering over WiFi Speed Issues?

Today, I finally tried a proxy server as part of my tethering testing and it seems to have finally unlocked the 4G tether speeds over WiFi. It's certainly not a perfect solution for all situations, but I thought I'd put something here in the general section where some Sense users would be more likely to run across it.
Could someone try this under Sense with 4G over WiFi and let me know if it improves your speeds? I went from being stuck at 0.4Mbps to getting the usual 4G speeds I normally see (anywhere from 2.2Mbps to 10Mbps)!
What you'll need to do is install filterproxy from the Android market (it's free). This will start a proxy server on your EVO. I believe the intended purpose of filterproxy is to block certain sites from your browser on your phone, but only if you browse using the proxy. filterproxy has a side effect allowing the phone to act as a proxy server for other devices that connect to it.
Once you've installed filterproxy, start tethering and connect your computer to the tether. Configure your browser's proxy settings to use your phone as a proxy. The method for changing your browser's proxy settings varies from browser to browser, but here are a few.
Internet Explorer 8:
Click on Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections tab -> LAN settings
Check the box for Use a proxy server and enter the appropriate settings
Firefox:
Tools -> Options -> Network tab -> Settings
Select Manual proxy configuration and enter the address and port in the HTTP Proxy section
Check the box for Use this proxy server for all protocols
Chrome:
Click on the Customize tool icon in the upper right of Chrome and select Options from the menu
Click Under the Hood on the left
Click Change proxy settings
Click LAN settings
Check the box for Use a proxy server and enter the appropriate settings
For the proxy address, you'll need to enter the IP address that your phone is using for its WiFi access point. In CM7 this should be 192.168.43.1. For Android Wireless Tether it can be changed, but by default it is 192.168.2.1 (I think). If you can't find it, open adb shell or terminal emulator and type 'netcfg'. At the bottom you should see something like this:
wl0.1 UP 192.168.43.1 255.255.255.0 0x00001043
The 192.168.43.1 is the address being used for the WiFi access point. The port for your proxy is the port that filterproxy is using. By default it is 8000, but you can change it within the filterproxy app.
NOTE: changing your proxy server settings may prevent your browser from connecting to the Internet whenever you're not tethering. You'll have to check or uncheck proxy boxes or try making different shortcuts like this.

hey very curious here about this...i get crap speeds when tethering my internet on 4G....like really crappy...i use wireless tether and easytether pro for wired share...i downloaded the app filter proxy...how do i work it ? i am completely confused as to how to set it up etc...if you could help me there i could help test this out...ty
edit: just to let u know ur awesome !!! i live in a 4G area but never got the speeds my phone did while tethering...using ur method i get watever 4G is putting out now...its awesome...anywhere from 3MB to 9MB down speeds...fantastic !!!!!
First off I just want to say, Dees_Troy, you are a freaking Champion! I've been looking around too long for this answer to my prayer! I tried it out your workaround and it worked immediately and it was way too easy! I'm using an Evo 4G and I'm on Fresh 3.5.0.1 (Sense Rom). My speeds were ~.5 MBPS. I just did a speed test (on my pc, not phone) and hit ~3MBPS and now I am streaming and surfing like a crazy person. Thank you so much for posting this workaround!
Tethering worked fine for me...Pretty cool but needs to be faster ha!
I'm running 2.2 on my Evo 4G and this is what i got after doing this:
Before the fix via Speedtest.net:
DL: 66.1
UL: 117.8
After the fix:
DL: 323.9
UL: 85.6
Wrong thread.
Thanked you though for your contribution.
Cool Stuff
Hey this is great to know, I don't have 4g service in my area yet but it did seem to increase my tethering speed regardless. Also learned a little something about proxy settings
any idea how to do this on a Mac? i can't get it to work.

Well first go into the safari browser options/tools, then look for lan settings to start with.
Mac Safari/Preferences/Advanced/Proxies/
Can you be very specific for the non-computer/smart phone experts please? There is mention in this post and the original linked post about changing settings...I am not sure how to do that. Is it in the phone settings, the filerproxy settings or on the computer settings?
Sorry to be a newb...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13653126&postcount=159 Slightly more detailed. Can elaborate more if needed.
Nice thread...makes much more sense to me. i have 1 question...item #3 states, "open up terminal emulator..." I have no idea what that means...sorry.
Also, I understand (in theory about the rooting and bricking dangers of rooting a phone, and I am not sure I should do that...due to my obvious lack of skill. It seems like this does not require rooting your phone, or does it?
Thanks for your help (and patience).

Yes and no....to use filterproxy you don't need to be rooted. But you need to be rooted to use terminal emulator [app with root] along with wireless tether [tether without paying the sprint 30$/mo]
If you paid the fee, then you could bypass step 3. Rooting isn't hard if you use unrevoked. I can walk you through it, the whole process takes about 5 minutes, and you can unroot if you ever had to take your phone in for servicing.
Thanks. My only concern is not understanding what I did to my phone and not being able to restore it if needed. You make is sound simple.
I guess what I need is the dummy's guide to how to get free wi-fi, with minimal risks. Is that possible?
Thanks again.

Sure thing. Shoot me a pm, so as we don't bloat this thread. I'd get you rooted and all set up with minimal risks and walk you through it.
when i open up terminal emulator and type in netcfg, it gives me a permission denied error. i've never used this program before, so it's probably something really simple but not sure. i have an evo, rooted, no custom roms. thanks

Try typing su before you type netcfg.... example: su netcfg
su means sudouser in linux language
type is su first, now it gives me SU: Permission Denied. like i said im not familar with this at all or linux, but when i type in the SU NETCFG it gives it in all caps. is that the problem? it wont let me type lower case. any other suggestions? Thanks for the help.
edit: my first line when i open up emulator is
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$
im uninstalling and reinstalling the proxy and emulator now just to try if that makes a difference. plus im a new member so need to wait 5 minutes between posts and edits so its a pain, lol.

[Q] Help setting up Tor/Orbot?

Hi guys --
I'm running CM7 on my Evo and wanted to install Tor/Orbot. As far as I could tell from Tor's website, since Cyanogen is iptables-compatible (or whatever it's called), I just had to set Orbot up for Proxy Transparency, which I did. Orbot got to 100%, looked like it was running fine...but no programs could access the internet -- not the Gmail app, any browser, etc. As soon as I disabled Orbot, everything went back to normal.
Can anyone advise on how to properly set this up? I'd really love to anonymize my data.
Thanks!
So no one does anything to anonymize their browsing on their phone, Tor or otherwise?
I use a proxy thru my server no apps I'm oldskool so I do it manually change my proxy list ever few days when I start running low on unused proxies
We are legion, for we are many
Ya, but u don't run through you're server when ur not at home, right? so u just risk it when ur browsing on ur phone out and about?
No I proxy to my server from my phone using my aosp build
We are legion, for we are many
ah. got it. thanks for the heads up. i don't have a server, but maybe I should just look into proxy alternatives beyond tor, maybe there are simpler ways.

[Q] EVO 4G Hotspot & Tethering problems Can I manually configure MASK & GATEWAY??

[Q] EVO 4G Hotspot & Tethering problems Can I manually configure MASK & GATEWAY??
I have been using a sprint EVO4G flashed to BOOST for over 3 years. I have been very pleased with all functionality and have never had problems with anything EXCEPT the darn micro USB ports always getting messed up and the battery life. NOT a newsflash!!
I am an ebay seller and have been in a location last month or so that required me to use my HOT SPOT for internet connectivity. After using the hot spot for some time, It stopped working. It would pass an IP address but the subnet mask is incorrect (255.255.0.0) and no gateway showing up. Could not figure out a way to manually set the correct mask and gateway.
So I switched over to tethering. Correct mask.....gateway. Rocking along......
Now the tethering is starting the same thing I get an IP address but the mask is 255.255.0.0 and no Gateway.
I have been looking for a hotspot app that will allow me to configure the mask and gateway it passes onto hotspot connections but google play store sucks when trying to sort and search for real specific things like this. So it is a slow task
System Information:
May not have anything to do with this but here it is
ANDROID----2.3.3
HTC Sense---2.1
SOFTWARE # ---4.24.651.1
PRI---1.90_003
PRL---61010
KERNEL
2.6.35.10-gc0a661b
[email protected] #1
BASEBAND---Synergy (RLS 1)
BROWSER---WebKit/533.1
I am also seeing some other issues that make me think I have just sort of worn this poor little ol' phone out!!!
Screen locks up and won't take input unless I turn screen of and swipe to unlock.
Latency on phone like memory full or like in windows when it takes so long to close due to network issues (hum....)
I don't use a lot of extra stuff. Could list but not sure its necessary.
Configured to store everything possible on SD card. Free internal 44MB
Screen cycling on some web pages (specifically forum pages)
Closing of browsers unexpectedly
Even reloading the system. Not rebooting, just reloading.
Errors when downloading from google play (I think it was 941???) but then turned into insufficient storage when there is room. Had to clear caches and data.
thanks in advance
