[Q] New memory card wont install ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received a new 16gb Kingston Micro SD, copied all of my files across. When I boot into recovery and select the ROM I get a message saying can not open file (bad).
I have re downloaded and dropped on the SD card and I still get the same message.
I formatted it with rom manager before I used it.
Is it likely the SD card is faulty? If so is there a way of confirming this?
Thanks in advance.

Is the ROM availible from several sources? If so, have you tried re-downloading the rom from those sources? It might be that the .zip source filei tself is corrupt. Alternatively, try downloading it to a different location on your computer. This has actually helped me in similar cases.
You could also try extracting the .zip to your computer. If I remember correctly, the extracting will fail pretty quickly if the .zip package is corrupt.
If it's not the .zip file, you could always try to dump some music files on the SD card and try playing those, or maybe a video file. My guess is that if the SD card itself is faulty, you will get errors while trying to play music / video. Just a guess though, not tried this myself.

Thanks, I have download it a few times from a couple of different sources. The md5 also matches.
I'll try dropping some music on later.

Is the card mounting as read only, or is it not recognized at all?
it says unavailable in settings.but when i put it into the comp., i can see all the files.
edit:when i boot the phone, the preparing sd card message goes thru.but about 5 secs. later it umount and wont remount. tried it from recovery, and it mounts.boot up,and it umonts again........i was running myns.rls5.using a2sd,if that helps.
You probably have a corrupt file on the card. Put the card in a pc and copy all files to your hard drive. It will probably give you an error with one of the files and you can then see which file is corrupt. Delete the file off of your card and you should be good to go.

Try running files to check for a corrupt file on your PC.
If not, you can always format it and start over.

The WinAmp app tends to do this to cards as well, if you have it, or any other apps installed, make sure that they don't have some sort of automounting built into the app, as it jacks with the phone.

[Q] sd problem

I rooted my evo and its been working fine, but I now have a problemo..
The SD card is mounted because I can see everything through astro, I can connect it to the computer and browse the sd card and see pix and music
The music player says "No music found" and the gallery wont display my photos.
Any suggestions? I dont want to format the sd card if possible. More info by request.
Thanks
Also when I take pictures theyll stay for a while, I dont know exactly when they disapear, but maybe when the phone is rebooted. They do although get saved to the sd card in the proper 100MEDIA folder
Would you happen to be on the sense 2.1 ports? That happens to me when I'm on them.
what do you mean by the port? I am using 2.1 tho. its been working fine for about 4 months
Take SD card out..copy contents, format SD card, copy contents back, insert SD card back..your problem should be fixed..if not, get a better SD card.

If you don't want to format it, try unmounting & remounting the SD card. You can also try manually running the media scanner. There are multiple toggle widgets that do this - Widgetsoid is my personal preference, but there are others. The dev tools app on CM7 also has an option to run the media scanner.
I think this is a rom issue & not an sd card issue. Backup your current rom, then restore from a backup of a different rom or try a clean install of a new one. If you choose to do a fresh flash, I suggest going with the stock rooted rom. If you still have the problem, then copy all of the files to your computer, format the card, then copy what you need back to the SD.
If it works fine on a different rom, you know the problem is rom related. You can try a completely clean install of whatever rom you're running right now, but it may just be a bug pertaining to the rom.
What rom are you on at the moment? Just curious...
honestly I cant remember. how to I find out?

You don't remember what rom you're on? Really?
Umm, okay. Go to settings, then about phone down at the bottom. If you don't know which piece of info is the rom - you should recognize the name - just post everything in that menu.

You want to make sure that you don't have a ".nomedia" file in with your pictures or music. Certain apps can automatically create a .nomedia file and place it in with your music files or pictures, etc. When a .nomedia file is present, that folder won't get scanned for media of any kind, therefore your stuff wont show up. I'm not saying that's definitely your problem, by any means. However, simply suggesting that you check your folders, to make sure that the .nomedia file isn't there. I forget which apps can create that file, but I know it can happen.
i used unrevoked.. which one is the rom in software info?

It may be named Rom Version, Mod Version, build number... I've seen multiple different wordings for it. Mine says "Build Number", but I'm on MIUI. It isn't baseband, kernel, model version, or Android version. It won't be only numbers, and it isn't PC36100.
Let me ask you this... have you flashed any roms through recovery or Rom Manager? If not, you're on stock.
3.70.651.1 cl294884 release-keys is build number
I just tried to install fresh evo 3.5 rom and when it rebooted it stuck at the white "htc evo 4g" screen

found the .nomedia file. deleted it and pix and music are back. It was at the root of the sd card. Thanks

Glad to have helped. And I just gave you your first thanks (it was an accident, I meant to hit the quote button, lol). But either way, you got your first thanks! Take it easy.

[Q] Zip files not being transferred properly..

I am running AOKP on my d2att. I am trying to flash a new ROM, and every time I transfer them over from my computer, they get to about 75% and just closes. The file shows up there, but of course, it's not the full file.
I've tried a few things. So far I've tried these:
Trying it on a different computer
Other files seem to work, such as .mp3 files
Tried another nandroid backup
Tried downloading it from goomanager directly
Anyone ever had this issue and/or know how to fix it?

When I copy over from my Win8 PC the status only goes to about 60-80% and closes, however the file sizes match properly. If that's not the case a quick fix would be to download the file directly from your phone.

[Q] Can't copy MP4?

Ok so I am pulling my hair out over something... I can't seem to copy any mp4 files to my device, can't copy them to the on board storage or the MicroSD. I get an error (on my computer) that while it can play video files but it can't play mp4 files...
What did I miss?
MG
That message is just a warning. It should allow you to copy anyway.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using xda app-developers app
Agreed. It should just be a warning and you should be able to copy anyway. If you still can't, are you using a program to transfer? You can just hook up the usb and treat it like a regular flash drive and you won't get any of those errors. Or you could use Airdoid
Ok so no it wasn't a warning but rather a couple different things. I must have flashed the sd card fix and then loaded a rom update or something that overwritten it. I re-did that and also discovered I had my MicroSD formatted incorrectly which was preventing me from copying files greater than 4gb so I am just out of it...
Thanks though...

ExtSd fix not working

I have tried several extsd fix methods and so far I am still running into the same problem. I have a mp3 Downloader that stores the files in the system music folder. When I tryed using the stock file manager it says transfer failed. So I tried using ES file explore as I have for some time with the same result. I'm using a M919 OK3 4.4.4 rooted stock. I tried using NextApp SD fix and a few other SD fix apps with no luck. I even tried twrp manager to undo the fix and redo it. Still nothing... I am open to any suggestions since this has me baffled. This is the only phone I have ever had do this. I have a sgh-I337, galaxy centura, and a few other phones that I have rooted and either modified the stock or put a custom rom on and never have had this problem.
So far still no luck with patching SD card to allow file transfers. Not giving up yet though.
So just realized I never posted back on this after I figured out my issue the problem was not the phone the problem was the files. I had 2 .mp3 files that were stored as a totally different file type than what what is supported for trasferring once in changed them to .mp3 they moved over just fine...
Please close thread as this has been figured out please and thank you
