I have created a collection of Star Wars notification bars for anyone to use.
Instructions
rename the selected light saber file to "statusbar_background.9.png"
You must have the Android SDK Components installed.
1. Go to Settings > Applications > Development and check the USB Debugging box
2. Connect your SGS via USB to your computer. Do not mount in Mass Storage Mode!
3. Copy a Command Prompt Window (for Windows 7 go to Start > Search > Type CMD and right click - copy it) in the android-sdk-windows\tools folder so you don't have to type all those "cd" commands and open it. Else type cd android-sdk-windows (or whatever the folder is named) and cd tools to get there
4. Type adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
5. In the \tools folder you'll find the framework-res.apk file extracted from SGS's system. Create a backup first!!! Right click on it, select Open (or Open With) and point to WinRar or an similar archiving program
6. When opened, browse in the archive for the \res\drawable-hdpi folder
7. Drag and drop the files from the .zip attached here in the \drawable-hdpi folder and close the archive
8. Go back to the CMD window and type adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
9. Reboot

SHELL...
I have finally figured out how to open or make Cramfs images using Cygwin. And it is much more easier to use then my previous thread on How to Theme JF1.51 CRB43-US using Ubuntu. If you don't believe me, take a crack at it. Themers get on your grind. Your going to laugh when you see how easy it is to do. I would have not continued to explore Cygwin option for Cramfs if it wasn't for Binary100 100 and the others that had problems with the Ubuntu way, like bboy_201. I didn't forget about you...
I hope that all of you guy/gals that were having trouble with the Ubuntu way, suceed with this method.
Complete Setup in 7 steps
1)Download and install Cygwin.
2)When you reach the select package menu open Devel.
3)Scroll down to the Cramfs and select 1.1-1 26k.
4)Click next to finish the setup.
5)Right click on the Cygwin icon on your desktop and click on Open file location.
6)Open the home folder. You will see your name there. Make a shortcut of your name and place it on your desktop.
**Everytime you open Cygwin, this will be your default folder**. This is why we placed it on our desktop.
7)Open the shortcut folder and hide the .bash_profile, .bashrc,and .inputrc folders(right click-->properties-->click Hidden). This is so that you have a clean folder to work with. You can rename this folder to help you identify it later.
Your setup is completed!!!
Now what???
Download the Theme template !!!
You MUST use the ORIGINAL files from the framework and app's folders of CRB43-US to prevent problems/foreclosers!!!
To easily open an image, you:
Place the framework.cramfs from the template in your shortcut folder.
Run Cygwin Shell and simply type:
Code:
cramfsck -x framework framework.cramfs
Now look in your shortcut folder, you will see a folder called "open" with all the framework folder files inside.
Now you can edit the framework-res.apk, Xml's, jar,etc...
Making your custom image is just as simple, when your finished modifying ,type:
Code:
mkcramfs framework framework.cramfs
Your new custom cramfs image is in the shortcut folder ready to be placed in the Update.zip
RichieDaze you are the man, now working on Windows Server 2003!
Great tutorial now I can port my theme for more users thanks!
What a wonderful tool you have discovered! Finally I can edit the ROM I want to use.
I prefer to use the "Tmobile" stuff just in case problems arise. Have been using ADP.
Thanks again for the super info and tut!

there in the framework-res.apk and easy to replace, if you find some emoticons you like i can replace them for you
can u tell the method in PLAIN ENGLISH please?
Same as the guy above..oh and if it's not too much to ask, can you pls give us a step by step guide on how to do this.
1. Extract your framework-res.apk. you will find it in /system/framework/.
2. download and install 7zip, on your pc.. its a free program.
3. on your pc, right click on your extracted framework-res.apk, find the 7zip contex menu, and click on open archive (DONT EXTRACT IT)
4. A box will open, now navigate to the \res\drawable-hdpi-v4\ folder, inside there you will find the emoticons, they have names like "emo_im_cool.png" and "emo_im_crying.png". find some suitable replacement emoticons, and rename them to the match the file names in the folder.
5. just drag and drop your new emoticons in the folder, and replace the existing ones.
6. close 7zip. now download the update.zip template i've attached at the bottom, unzip it and copy your modified framework to the framework folder inside the zip, go back to the root of the zip and zip it back up.
7. copy the update.zip to the root of your sd card and flash it from recovery
I found an easier solution, will post it IF succesful
But what if you just want to replace the text instead of the image?
I'm using the gingerbread keyboard and it has this smiley button, but how can i change them?
I created a guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11094721#post11094721

SO FIRST OF ALL, I DID NOT CREATE THIS APP , AM JUST SHOWING YOU HOW TO DO IT ,SO ALL CREDITS GOES TO STEPHEN (STERICSON) !!
As far as we know that, there various Methods for themeing your Phone but some of them take big expenditure, But not any more with this app. This is the most simplest way to theme your phone !
PLEASE MAKE A CWM BACKUP TO REVERT BACK IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES !!
Requirements:
A Rooted Phone with ICS
Latest Busybox (Just search for busybox installer in the market and install it!)
So lets get started
1) Download the app from this link http://www.mediafire.com/?esf9h3aevkjpjw5
Dont download it from the market because of some ICS compability Issues
2) Install it on your phone and open it. Click on start checks and then permit the SU permission.
3) That all with the phone, Now lets get to the Computer.
4) Go to http://droidpirate.com/category/metamorph-2/
for Icons and symbols
5) Download any icon, in my case ill be downloading a USB skin(just got bored with the orange guy)
6) Connect your phone to your PC, and open the mass storage
7) Now in the mass storage you will find a folder called AndroidThemes(if not create one,but make sure its written like AndroidThemes)
8) Now copy your downloaded zip file to the AndroidThemes folder
9) Disconnect your phone and open Metamorph
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

known issues:
V2 - some times, when you search for file type you'll get "find" error. for example, if you are looking for ".apk" some times in the list you'll get an error, so you need to search for another file type, for example ".jar" and then search again for ".apk". (i'm working on a fix )
