YouTube viewing problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm getting an error message while watching videos on the YouTube app (any version).
The error message appears around the middle or last half of the video.
It says something like : "a playing error occurred. Touch to try again." (Translated from french ).
I'm running CM 6.1.1 but got the same problem with CM 7.0 Rc1 or gingervillain gb port.
Is it a cache size issue ?
Thanks for your help.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

i sometimes get this error when watching videos (seems to be quite randomly, though), but they work after a refresh (or, at least, i can view past the error until i have to refresh again). but i think it has something to to with the data connection, since i've noticed resetting my wifi / 3G connection helps avoid this error for a while. might have something to do with the radio?

Thanks.
When I get this error message and refresh, the video starts at the beginning again! I never can see the end of the video.
I'm using radio 5.14.05.17
Do you think I should downgrade? Which one is the best radio?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

i really don't know very much about radios, since i've never had problems with the one i'm using (5.09.05.30), thus i haven't had the need to flash another. from what i've read, radios provide different experiences on different handsets in various places, so the only one who can tell which exacly is the best is you. i suggest you read through the thread of the rom you are using and find a couple radios of which people say good things from their own experience and try to see which performs better on your phone.
please take care when flashing a radio, because a bad flash can really brick your device. again, i don't know much about radios and flashing them, but a lot of people say the best (and safest) way to do it is through fastboot. maybe you should read around on how to do it, and make sure the file you download is not corrupted (do an md5 checksum if possible), suits your rom and device and there are people who say they've been successfully using it. good luck!

Hi there, i had the same problem. It was a kind embarrising cause all i have to do was search youtube on market and update, cause that was not automatickly update...

@KasperBang did this problem stop for you when you did the update? i've always used the most recent version and still had errors from time to time

[Q] Random Reboots

I'm curious if others are seeing their EVO reboot with random use. It doesn't seem to be related to one specific application although it is hard to say if a background app is the cause. I will be using navigation or an Internet-based app, then the screen goes black and the phone reboots.
I originally thought it was due to rooting, but I'm seeing it on different ROMs. I've wiped the cache and data when flashing the new ROMs and I've tried running with limited apps loaded with my recent move to the OMJ ROM. Everything actually runs great with the exception of the reboots.
I'm posting the issue here since it doesn't seem to be ROM specific and I'm curious if it may be hardware related. Is there a tool that would allow me to easily catch a log of the potential error to seek further help? A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running stock 2.2 no root, and with gps on my phone reboots in the middle of 911 calls. (Thank God I wasn't calling about an immediate emergency) but it happened twice, once when I called and the other when they called me back. After turning off GPS, it worked fine. I thought this was a bug in 2.1 before update1, I didn't receive the problem until the 2.2 update.
adb logcat might see an error, but I'm not really sure.
Seeing it here. Not Rom or application specific.
try a factory reset.
That's scary news about the reboots during 911 calls. I can't say that I tested that as a trigger for the reboot and I hope I don't have to in the near future. However, it makes me curious if it is related to the phone's interaction with the Sprint network. In your case your 911 call may have been a direct trigger whereas my reboots are seem indirect while I'm using my data plan.
One reason for my reboot was due to me getting the Error Code 67 "Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect" when trying to tether (USB or hotspot). Rooting allowed me to tether using 3rd party apps, but there may be the underlying problem with my account.
I also should have mentioned that the reboots happen with GPS on as well as off. I typically have it off to save battery life. I've also done factory resets each time I've changed or updated my ROM.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions so far. I'll try logcat and continue to monitor the forum for advice. I'll also post back any answers I may find elsewhere.
Thanks again.
I had a reboot tonite, phone was just sitting on table off charger about 90% battery, and I heard the Sprint screen come on looked down and noticed phone was booting up....no idea why first time I've noticed this.
Stock froyo no root...unfortunately :'(

Correction... I meant to say that the reason I rooted (not rebooted) was to get tethering without running into the Error Code 67. I tried the various solutions posted for the Error Code 67, but nothing seemed to work. But I'm curious if this may be part of the underlying issue if my device reboots based on a faulty account configuration when using some aspect of the Sprint network.

The exact same thing happened to me last night. I sent a text, switched to my GMail and then boom. Error message about failure to send an SMS then reboot. Stock unrooted FroYo.
I had reboots only when using Undervolted kernels.
Seemed to be triggered by GPS + Phone call.
Yes, I was also having this problem. Definitely GPS related. Usually it would happen only if I was using the GPS for a long amount of time (navigating) - so I imagine it may be conflicting with cellular data if I received a txt while navigating or something. Who knows.
It was driving me crazy because A. I got lost and B. It started rebooting constantly and would randomly get caught in a boot-loop. I even had the problem after wiping EVERYTHING (even my SD) and reinstalling various ROMs (I tried 5 different ones).
The only solution I found in the end was to find the latest radio and wimax updates, wipe, re-install those - and then install the ROM again.
GPS may be a symptom, but not a cause for me since I typically have GPS off. I find that it typically happens when I'm using a networked based app, like the web browser. Following your post I turned on the GPS, started the navigation app and found that my EVO rebooted after the same amount of time I was experiencing with GPS off.
The more I think about it, it does feel like I just assume that it will reboot after a certain amount of time passes (regardless of app). GPS and Internet are two uses where I will have the screen on for more than just checking email and etc.
Your reply gave me hope and I wiped, reset and reinstalled today. All seemed well and then... auto-reboot. This is driving me nuts. I'm seriously considering reverting back to stock to see if that stops it.

Don't go back to stock. I did and it did not fix the rebooting problem. Now I have the rebooting problem and don't have root anymore. Out of the frying can and into the fire.
What's funny is that my phone went through a few days where it would randomly reboot, and this was before I rooted. When it rebooted for the second time in a meeting, I pulled the battery, and didn't put it back in until the meeting was over a few hours later. Don't know if that did anything, but it hasn't rebooted on its own since.

Having same issue and my theory is that its sd card related in my case at least... I think it might have to do with froyo netarchy based kernals found in most of the newer froyo roms combined with a slow sd card. (on hardware rev 2)... try flashing a 2.1 rom like fresh 1 or one of the 2.2 roms with an htc based kernal like the am evolution or cyanogen with snap5 or 7.11 (onyl 7based kernal ive tried so far, was panicking because i thought my evo was wrecked). those have both worked for me and i had that issue with 1.3 baked snack, fresh 3, evio and damage control. got random reboots when phone is totally idle, in use, charging or not. evio runs super smooth but the restarts...)
edit for spelling and update roms that gave me the reboot issue.
+1 for random reboots here... it is CERTAINLY more prevalent during GPS use, but I've gotten it without.
Fresh 3 + King BFS#4 got me in a bootloop requiring wipe reflash, standard baked snack 1.5+whatever kernel it comes with has been doing it.
I dig the battery life I was getting... but if undervolting is causing this... ugh.
I'm also getting the boot loop problem. Stock 2.2, all updates.
I've even done the hard reset.. twice!
I tried to follow it with LogCat, but reboot disconnects adb. I was thinking it was the SprintZone app. The P.O.S. app is doing all sorts of non-sense while booting, but eventually it'll reboot around the 11th time and freeze at the "htc EVO 4G" screen.
I wish we could get some resolve here D;
Random Reboots
Thanks for all the input and I'm sorry to hear that I'm not alone, but it is a bit comforting to know I'm not the only one that is frustrated.
I took gleax's advice and I dropped down to the stock 2.1 release found in the thread number 715915. (Sorry, the forum won't let me paste the link.)
I did the required wipes prior to installing the new ROM and I'm still seeing reboots. I now see the OTA update for Android 2.2 and I'm tempted to accept, then send the phone back to Sprint in the even this is a hardware issue. I'd prefer not to, but there doesn't seem to be a way to identify the issue and work towards a resolution. I've tried logcat, but the log seems to start clean after each reboot. That being the case, I don't know how to capture the log leading up to the reboot that would help identify the issue. Any suggestions on a logging tool and where to post to help several of us that are seeing this issue?
Gleax suggested this is may be SD related, so I bought a class 4 card in addition to dropping down to 2.1. I'll give that a shot and try another clean 2.1 install. I'll post the results here in the event they may help others. I'll likely give it a week before unrooting and seeking help from Sprint. I really need a usable device more than I need root access (although both would be ideal).
I had this problem on a very regular basis when I was running OTA 1.32, 2.1 android.. but since I rooted and went to SteelH's stock 2.2, no issues at all. Updated radios when I did that as well.
Hrm, I may have to try flashing to a stock build for awhile... it'll KILL me, but even fully wiping, new radios, cyanogen, still get crazy reboots.

HTC removed 2.29.405.2 OTA Update

I just can't find the latest firmware neither in support site not via Firmware update section in Settings.
Just a thought, maybe HTC cooking something.

If you want the full ROM for an unbranded Desire then click the one in my signature. It's the latest one, 2.29.405.2
I also try to make an update through OTA and nothing appears.. any news why?
And 1 more @ EddyOS:
If I download this rom from your signature link how will then install it ? Thanks!

Is your device branded somehow? If it is, don't try to apply any update. You'll just have to wait...

No it's not branded.
Well maybe its for the better. Only thing that i got from this OTA are problems.. Battery temp is higher then before, and there is problem with installing apps from market( maybe its not related but it started to happen after upgrade)
No root
Hi, the same with my Desire... I got the update offered once, I canceled that and from that time never offered.
I assume I should wait if I don't want to root right?
It seems that HTC removed the update. It isn´t even listed on their website anymore.
It might have a reason that they did so, but i didn´t find any information about it yet.
(I too got the update available-message which i also cancelled. 2 days later (3 days ago) i tried a manual search and i found nothing, even with friends phone on stock rom)).
C'mon guys, the update was obviously pulled for a reason. Do you really think HTC is denying it to your for s**ts and giggles? There's obviously something wrong with it and you don't want it on your phone.
Whenever I tried to do an OTA update it would download and then tell me the update is corrupted and couldn't be installed. I was running a stock euro ROM at the time.
In the end I gave up and installed a generic WWE ROM which included the latest update. Everything works just fine for me. The battery life seems much improved although I don't notice this as much as others may as coincidentally I've started leaving Bluetooth on for use with my car kit.

Guys be glad if you didn't updated your phones yet. The update only gave me troubles. Reception is worse the before, the phone feels more sluggish, I encouter more bugs...wished I didn't update my Desire...
You're an unlucky one, I've had no issues whatsoever using it
Agree... this update was great... it solved at least 4 problems to me:
1. the drop to 90% when removed from the charger
2. bluetooth connection to my headset greatly improved
3. when opening the first SMS on top of the message list it sometimes was opening the last one, not really a big problem but annoying
4. when writing long sms it sometimes would start an endless of conversion of "sms-to-mms" and "mms-to-sms" over and over again...
and so far have not seen any drawback.

I am also getting a lot of process failures..
So updating
EDIT: Damn, having problems -> here.
On screen keyboards look different I *think* - slightly bigger keys - (I was just messing on an iPod so may be mistaken!)...not noticed anything else.
I managed to snag this update via OTA. I'm on 2.2, unbranded, un-rooted. All is as HTC/Google intended.
Since installing this update I've noticed slightly better battery consumption, but I'm having a few FC issues. Downloading from the Market, browsing pictures, sending an SMS, using Twitter for Android will all drop an FC on me every one in fifteen times I'd estimate. This is up from never prior to the update.
I can only guess this is an issue related to this update as I never had this problem before hand, and I have more free memory on the Desire now than ever before after having a spring clean to find the space to install the update.
May not be this update, but it's the only system aspect which has changed since it began.
I havent had any problems updating to this.

Hi. I received an OTA notification yesterday (14/12/10) that a software update was available to download. I have successfully updated my unbranded sim-free HTC desire to 2.29.405.2. So far I have not noticed any changes to my device nor any adverse problems since the update.
Kind regards

Looks like it was either a server crash their end of just a staggered release...only thing really of note is a few app updates and smaller bug fixes

[GUIDE/FIX] Potential fix for GPS issues with some ROMs

If your GPS isn't working with your new ROM, then try this method. It has worked for me for every ROM I've used with a problem connecting to GPS. I've seen the problem posted in several ROM threads, and instead of posting it in each one and having it get lost in the hundreds of pages of posts, I figured I'd start a new one which might be searched for a little more easily.
- Open 'Settings' and go to 'Applications'. Choose 'Manage Applications'.
- Choose 'Running Apps'
- Find the 'Maps' app and open it. Click 'Force Stop' and choose 'Clear Data'.
- Go back to your app drawer and open 'Maps'. It will have you check off the disclaimers. Close it after you have done this.
- Open your 'Navigation' app and check off the disclaimers there. It should connect after that.
Like I said, this has worked for every ROM I've tried with a problem connecting to GPS. I don't know why it works, but it does.
tags: gps not working, gps won't connect, gps issue, broken GPS
Didn't solve my GPS issue...which is that it doesn't toggle on what so ever.
Each new nightly I flash, I have to push an old gps.vision.so in order to get my gps to toggle on and off again.
Thanks anyway.
edit: No app on the market will make my GPS work...That is the type of GPS problem that I and some others are having.
try install the gpxfix or gps status from the market.. work well for me..
Same here...this didnt help.
Also installing GPS status did not help either.
As discussed in the nightlies thread, Cyanogen presumeably updated a crucial library responsible, among other, for GPS functionality which requires the/a new radio.
This also could explain why some users while having identical devices to other users do have GPS while others dont. They simply did upgrade the radio already earlier while the ones which are stuck with a bon-working GPS didnt and are still on the original radio, an "old" one in regards to the prerequisites of the "new" library added to the build.
Makes sense?

Yep...this is 100% correct.
And for what its worth, I went a head and flashed the new radio again just too see if in fact it does fix the GPS and yes it does.
Back to the T-Mobile US OTA radio and the gps.vision.so from Nightly #4 or earlier.
not 100% correct, i have the new radio and still have the gps problem... i've seen at least one other person with the same.
But i'm using a Bell Desire Z, maybe thats why

Did you happen to use the app 'GPS Status' to check your gps after you upgraded? If not, what was the first gps application that you opened after you upgraded to CM7, if you can remember?
Scratch that....just reflashed the radio and nightly 13. Gps works a charm now! Thanks

Im on the stock ROM and have a problem. I think the GPS on these phones are messed up big time. Here is my problem.
stock rom with ota update and ota update radio= no GPS AT ALL it will just stick there blinking tryin to get a fixed signal but it wont! Happens in alll my GPS app not just maps.
So I downgraded my radio to the pre-ota one and GPS gets a fix but takes a minute or so.. after that I can leave the app and come back and itll refix itself within 5 seconds (what it should be normally).. So even downgraded I still have slight issues with gps.. plus for some reason if I loose signal for more than 5 mins on this radio it wont ever get a signal unless I reboot.
Im going to try your method but dont think itll work since my problem is not Maps specific.
EDIT: this seems to have worked, even on my the ota radio. I just dont understand why Maps would break GPS for all apps. Funny things is when something like this usually happens I clear app data but didnt do it here because it was all my GPS apps.
I'm glad it has worked for a couple people anyway. I don't know what the problem is that causes this, but it has worked on the ROMs I've flashed, so I figured it might be a good step to take before updating radios and things like that. Just in case the solution is as simple as just stopping Maps and clearing the data... If you have done more modification to your phone beyond just flashing ROMs, then this may not work for you since the problem may be bad radios or other issues. If you are just a ROM flasher without tweaking too much else, then this may solve your problemo.

[Q] CM7 RC2 GPS and Gmail questions

Hello all, Im brand new to the forums and just recently was shown the wonders of rooting and messing with my phone by a coworker. I am amazed to see all the stuff this thing can do that Tmobile didnt bother doing for me! I recently went from CM6 to CM7 then upgraded to RC2 and somewhere in there I lost GPS all together and Gmail stopped sending my emails. No matter what I do GPS will not work. It shows that it is on everywhere I look for not in the status bar. I can find my location using wireless but its not nearly accurate enough for me. I read somewhere on the forums that uploading to the newest radio will help the GPS but the link it gave me showed it being posted in mid January and I figured there had to be something newer than that . I am also uninstalling and reinstalling Gmail to see if that solves my problems with it now and I will edit this if that changes. Ive read a few places where people were talking about getting an FM radio on the MT3G and most of the time it was said that it is not possible, it isnt right? Any info or advice you pros can give me will be greatly appreciated by this noob! Thanks guys!
EDIT: Looks like I should have taken my own advice and reloaded Gmail before asking about it, I can now send emails!
As for your GPS, once you get the newest radio flashed, go out door to a place with clear sky (as in no buildings hovering over your head). I thought my GPS didn't work either, then I stepped out and turned it on. Bam. Works perfectly fine.

download TuneIn from market
I got the radio downloaded and I finally have GPS!! I had read about downloading the newest radio before but the only one I saw was from January and I was hoping to find a newer one or a different fix. The only issue I have with the GPS now is the blue arrow that shows your position keeps going sideways :-/, another issue to research. As far as the FM radio goes, Ive see apps like that before but the reason I asked about an FM radio was to pick up the broadcasts from the TV's at the gym. Thanks for the post though.
Yea,my gps takes long to lock on outside, then when I'm driving or stopped at a red light it always reroutes, when I'm moving the arrow goes sideways and moves along so I can't really know where I'm going might a bug or sumthang.

Anybody figure out the problem with the navigation? I've got the same problem with the blue arrow being all funky. Makes google maps unusable.
Anybody else also know why this CM7 RC4 is killing my battery life?
I just updated my radio to the newest one and it's still got the same problem.
I did the radio too but Im still having problems. Im on nightly 36 now, but Ive tried 33 and RC1-4 without any luck. I heard someone say 32 works but ive also heard people say all of them works for them so im not sure.
my google maps gps is pointing to the wrong direction too. And get a long time to pinpoint my location.
cm7 and newest radio installed.
The guy who introduced me to all of this rooting stuff suggested I do a backup through titanium and then a full wipe before reinstalling CM7. I' not comfortable enough with all this yet to do it on my own so I have to wait until I work with him again. Mybe someone with more experience (or atleast confidence haha) would want to give this a shot and let us all know? I feel like it could work because there are so few of us having this problem and those that aren't have nothing different (in hardware or software) from the rest of us, so a wipe and reinstall could work...right??

Every time i have an issue with a ROM, i always full wipe and reflash and then restore my necessary apps through Titanium. It usually does the trick.
Full wipe involves data/factory reset, cache partition, and dalvik cache, all in cwm recovery menu correct? Is there anything else that needs to be wiped before flashing a new rom?

Telus - Limited internet connection

Ok, I'm not sure what's going on or how to fix this. Yesterday, I couldn't connect to the market, it kept telling me it was a network error. I could still browse the internet no problem. Then I notice that Facebook wasn't updating, so it is a connection issue. It's weird that I could still browse the internet and Google+ would load my streams as well as upload photos that were taken. I decided to do a full wipe (data/cache/dalvik) and re-install Oxygen2.1.6.
The re-install went fine, but now I still cannot connect to the Market so my apps aren't re-installing. Any ideas what might fix this since a full wipe didn't help?
Nothing had changed between the connection working and it not working. The phone wasn't rebooted, nothing changed in my APN settings either. Connection bars are all green.
Everything works fine when I'm connected to wifi.
*Restoring a previous backup doesn't work either and whenever I try to re-flash 2.1.6 I get a bootloop. So confused.
Nobody knows?
Really don't want to flash the RUU and re-root/s-off again if I don't have to. Just seems weird to me that this was working one evening then suddenly not working the next day with no re-boot or anything different installed in between.
I'm not using a desire but rather a nexus s.. but I'm having the exact same issue. I've tried just about everything except unrooting to fix it.

I'm going to try flashing a different radio when I get home but I can't really see that fixing it as it's been working with no issues since I first rooted it a while back.

First off I am going to assume that you two are on the TELUS network, you never said but that is what I am on and I have heard no information about it occuring on other networks
I noticed it yesterday and initiated several re-flashes and radio updates, none of which helped. Today I went into TELUS and they told me that they have been having alot of people with the telus bravo encountering similar issues. So instead of frowning and walking out I decided to ask if I could speak to the technician.
According to him the issue is not a connection to the network, rather that either the phones radio or the network is dropping the connection partway through data transfer. Therefore you can get through the connection, DNS and handshake processes, but it will fail during the transfer of data, but at no specified time. So I could use Grasscities Tapatalk app because it was just transferring text and other light data, but downloading large amounts of data winds up failing, which is why you can’t get market to work. TELUS does not know if the issue is only affecting desires (looks like it’s wider than just that) or if it is happening on any other network. They are in the information gathering phase and still waiting on a reply from HTC’s technical team to see if it is a problem affecting the radios.
I’ve spent most of the last 48 hours trying to solve this problem with no luck. TELUS has assigned me top level case advisement so I will update this thread as I know more about the problem. In the meantime, and I know how much it sucks, you will have to stick with wifi (as will I T_T)
Yeah, I'm on Telus. That would explain why a friend with a Nexus S on Rogers had no problems at all. I sure hope Telus figures this out soon. For now, I'm subscribing to this thread and hoping you hear something back. I'll update if I notice my data connection has returned to normal. Thanks for the info!
Also on Telus. Thanks so much for the update. I was thinking it was something on their part and have been meaning to call them but I'm at work. Just kinda assumed it wasn't their fault since some data did work, but it's good to have an answer.
Now I just need to figure out why my phone keeps bootlooping on a fresh 2.1.6 Oxygen install.
No problem guys, I know how frazzled you feel; I’ve been the exact same way for the last 48 hours.
Though I must say I am surprised that the forums are not all aflutter with discussion about this. The way the technician at TELUS was talking it sounded like they were getting a lot of calls about this. But dear freaking god I hope they get this solved soon… and if not then they had better let me out of my contract.
glad to hear it's not just me.. this has been happening since I went and saw U2 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto Monday night.. Every time I tried to upload pics I was taking at the concert it would just pause on the upload, or fail out completely.. my signal was dropping to nothing there as well.. I thought, being at the "Rogers" centre, that perhaps they'd set up a Telus signal blocking station
But then the problems have continued through to today. Some stuff kinda works.. I can get FB and Twitter updates from my Colorize Widgets, but can't actually use the FB app. twitter.com works, but facebook.com doesn't. google works sometimes.. but most pages time out in the manner mentioned above.
Quite annoying.
That's weird. This has been happening since yesterday for me, but last night it had no problems Instant Uploading pictures to Google+.
Some functionality has returned for me. Market still won't load.. but Facebook half-loads and the twitter widget in launcherpro is loading again. They must be working on it. I hope they fix it all soon.
