I have never downloaded a rom to my HTC Evo 4G before and I'm trying for the first time. I have rooted my phone through Unrevoked and I have superuser permissions and Rom manager. I am trying to download the B.O.S Liquid v1.2 rom and I have placed it in my phone. Then when I use rom manager to install it I select it and restart my phone and it gets stuck on the white HTC Evo 4G restart screen and i have to wait for it to die.
Is there anything i am doing wrong? Please help! Thank you.
Why don't you use the recovery menu to install it. You have to wipe dalvik cache and cache partition first.
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
Sorry I don't know what most of these things mean yet. I selected wipe cache on rom manager before i installed it.
which version of clockwork recovery are you using?
at the top of rom manager it says "current version" or "installed version"
I have the old hboot and 3.0.0.5 gives me issues while 2.5.0.7 is flawless

Dude, no disrespect but you are going to get blasted from others unless you spend the time to research. By the way, you get previous clockwork mods from rom manager, scroll to the bottom. Next time, spend more researching, no disrespect.

I have the latest recovery mod installed (ClockworkMod 2.0.1.3) on the latest ROM and Radio released June 28th for the Evo and I get the error icon every time i try to load into recovery. I have already tried to re-flash from ROM manager but no luck. Any ideas or on whats going on?
The same thing has happened to me twice. It happened when the program told me there was a new version available, and had to flash the new one. Afterwards, I could not boot into recovery (i'd just stay stuck in the beginning screen).
The way I fixed it is inside of ROM Manager, I clicked "Fix Permissions", and after that was done, I clicked "Flash Amon RA". This at least allows me to use the Amon RA custom recovery.
I had issues with the latest clockwork 2.0.1.3 too. At the bottom of rom manager there is the option to flash previous recoveries, i just went back to 2.0.1.2 and it works fine.
I have tried multiple old versions of clockworkmod and the alt recovery and still no luck. All attempts to load into any type of recovery have failed. HELP!!!

not sure exactly what you mean by the bolded statement. like you installed the updates in a custom rom or you did the OTA to get the latest rom and radio?

I used the "[ROM] OTA 1.47.651.1 Rooted" method to update my phone then I ran Calkulin's radio update. After this I was able to go into recovery and perform the factory reset / wipe device. I then preceded to restore my phone's data using My Backup Pro. after seeing that everything was working fine i went to try and perform a nandroid backup and found my recovery to be broken. Have been unable to flash a working rom since. I have been using ROM manager to flash different recoveries. and I always have the same result of a picture of a phone with an exclamation mark inside a triangle.
cans ome one tell me how to do it, i remeber trying a while back and it never worked, i mnight have made a mistake, i cant even find the threads for it, partially because i have a splitting headache and partially because it is so damn hot in my room i need to leave. please and thank you.
p.s. i did search for about 7 minutes, between the tempature and the fact that so much has the words clockwork and amon in it its just to much right now.
The easiest way is probably to download ROM Manager onto your phone. It may ask you to install ClockworkMOD again, but that's fine. Once that's done, scroll to the bottom of ROM Manager and select 'Flash Alternate Recovery' or something like that and that will install Amon_RA 1.8.0 onto your phone. Afterwards, you can remove ROM Manager since that only works with ClockworkMOD.
is there any noticable difference, and how will i know its done correctly i thought i tried this once...
mine says no alt. recovery available
Did ROM Manager ask you to flash ClockworkMOD again or no? At the very top of RM, you can try to install ClockworkMOD again and that might allow to you flash alternate recovery. Otherwise, here's the thread for Amon_RA 1.8.0.

im using the rom cm6.1.1 it had it on there already so no. however im going to restore to 6.1 because this rom is constantly rebooting itself and getting stuck in bootloops....****.
but yes ill let u no in a few minutes
i flahsed over to an old sense virus rom, i installed rom manager however it didnt ask to redownload clockwork, and i scrolled down to look at the flash alternative recovery, its still grey but this time it has amon ra 1.8 under it but still grey
I have looked across this forum and two other forums and have not found an answer which will satisfy me.
I have successfully rooted and flashed different ROMs many times, so the whole process is not anything I don't understand.
I can successfully flash any of the Cyanogens, Incredibly Re-engineered, Redemption, and SkyRaider ROMs.
I CAN NOT flash but ONE ROM with 'Z' in the title and that is Incredibly Re-engineered Z. Every other ROM such as Super Z, Warm Z 2.2, IncDoes, Uber Z
My DInc will just sit at the HTC Incredible white screen when I reboot after a successful load via clockworkmod.
I have left it sitting for 30 minutes plus while sitting at work. Nothing. Only choice I have is to restore from backup to a working ROM.
Any suggestions?
The ROM's you quoted are mostly using ClockWorkMod Recovery version 3 for the install. If you are on CWM version 2 the result you are getting is kind of expected. The v3 scripts are not compatible with v2 but v2 does not know any better so tries to install it.
Go into ROM Manager and see what recovery you are on and use RM to install CWM v 3.0.0.7
I would then try installing the ROM with RM selecting the wipe option
SIDE NOTE: If you are on CWM v3 and you try to install a v2 based ROM CWM will tell you that it is outdated
That is what I saw on other sites, but I have the latest version of clockworkmod v3.0.0.8 and have flashed the ROMs successfully with it, but they just wont go past the HTC Incredible white screen. The ones that gave me script errors, I have flashed down to clockworkmod v2.5.1.7 or whichever i seen in the OP of that ROM
I just do not understand it. =( ... I dont wanna be limited
Sounds like it could be related to you not having a Samsung Fascinate. I'd try to get a Samsung Fascinate and then you might have better luck.
Get back to work.

You probably did not catch my recommendation to use 3.0.0.7. 3.0.0.8 has known problems with not clearing everything.
In ROM Manager at the bottom install CWM 3.0.0.7 and try flashing the ROM from the SD Card with ROM Manager and select the wipe option.

I might have to try this too as I'm having troubles installing roms and sticking in boot loop ..
If I change to CWM 3.0.0.7 from my current 3.0.0.8, will my previous backups on 3.0.0.8 still be useable through 3.0.0.7?
Thanks!

Yes your backups will work
I will give that a try. I currently have only two flashable files for clockworkmod ... v3.0.0.8 and v2.5.1.2
I'll try and find the previous versions of clockworkmod, nandroid backup my working ROM, wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik and try this one more again.

Am currently using a Rooted, stock epic 4g (on froyo). Have a few bloatware apps frozen. Problem is I rooted with super1click when I had access to a computer at my old job. Now, I don't have access to a computer. Is a way to update to GB (have GB notice but it wnt update if I'm rooted, even if on stock rom, right?) And if I can update, once I'm updated, is there a method to root that doesn't involve anything too complex?
Thanks!
Epic is Epic.
Do you have clockwork 3.1.0.1? its the purple one, if so you should be able to download a rom straight to your phone.
What I recommend doing is using titanium backup to backup all of your apps. Just your apps no system data. Then booting into recovery, and clearing data, cache, and dalvik cache and flashing a gb rom straight from where you are.
If you are not on Clockwork 3.1.0.1 then you need to get updated to it, let me know and ill find the link.
No cwm at all.
Epic is Epic.
Would stock recov work?
Epic is Epic.
Not that I know of... I'll see if i can find anything
Thank you alias for noting CWM compatible kernal required.
Install SGS Kernal Flasher from market.
Download DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.02.zip and put on your sdcard
Original kernel post with sources: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1053252
Open SGS kernel flasher, Allow with superuser. Tap "choose kernel", locate DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.02.zip on your sdcard, and flash the kernel. It should reboot the phone when done. Then you can do the rest.
install RomManager via market.
Next, download Clockwork 3.1.0.1
open ROM Manager app, and Tap "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
Choose the Epic 4G.
The following message will appear: "Epic4G does not have an officially supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod recovery manually?"
choose yes, and select ClockworkMod 3.x
Next, tap "Install ROM from SD Card". Browse to, and choose the cwm3.1.0.1.zip on you downloaded.
Tap OK at "Reboot and Install", and be sure to give permission, when the superuser prompt appears.
From that point you should be on clockwork 3.1.0.1
last thing to do is flash a good rom, Starsky 1.4 is what I am using, and it appears to be very stable and quick, but you can go with any of the ei22 roms once your on 3.1.0.1 clockwork.
To flash the rom from clockwork you have to boot into recovery, and "Install Zip from SD card, choose zip from SD card, then select the rom. Make sure you clear data, cache, and dalvik (in advanced) before flashing
Just a thought... ROM Manager? I think it can install CWM.
Course you will have to make sure you have a CWM compatible kernel.

If cwm 5 flashes above will still work, nej?

Should work just fine.
Edit: Nvm, I fixed it -_-"
Thanks for all the help above!
Hey guys, Sprint ended up changing something on my account and screwing up my evo so I couldn't access 3g. Long story short, I RUU'd to get it back to stock and was able to then get 3g data back. Now it still shows S-Off, but I can't boot into recovery and the clockwork mod rom manager won't work, because it says my phone still needs to be rerooted. I was thinking since when I boot into recovery it says S-Off, i'm already rooted and I just need the zip for clockwork mod recovery and I can then go in and flash roms to my hearts content.
Does anyone know where I can find the .zip for clockwork mod recovery?
You need to flash clockworkmod through the bootloader I wouldnt recommend clockworkmod and most people don't recommend it you can find it on clockworkmod.com under recovery images and look for the EVO
Edit:also you might have to flash a superuser zip to get root back

I don't personally recommend clockworkmod to use as your recovery, but if you just need to have it, you should find it much easier to run the attached PC36IMG file from your SD card.
Also, you may need to flash (or install from SD card) through clockwork the attached superuser zip file to obtain your root permissions if you are going to continue to use stock ROM.
That works
Thank you Shorty Dogg - the pc36img.zip was exactly what i needed. I'm used to Amon Ra, but wanted to try out clockwork. Thanks again!
I would use amon RA or amon RA style supersonic recovery since u had cwm b4 I'd recommend RA style supersonic recovery 3.0.8 as it will allow you to use your cwm backups as well as RA backups and any backups you make in the future, plus it has capacitive buttons and touch screen working in recovery has a battery level option and etc check it out in development

Good luck cwm is garbage compared to RA on the evo it doesn't like to wipe properly alot of times, as well as it doesn't have the same wipe options as RA, atleast it didnt the last time I used it which has been a minute I ditched it for RA almost immediately

ok i've used the rev tool and installed superuser but says not rooted. I've installed busy box and this is what it is saying. " error. root access not detected. Your device must be rooted to install busy box. if you fell that youare recieving this message in error please go into superuser app and click on busybox installer and then click forget and restart this app." but it is not showing that in superuser. do i just flash the superuser in this section and try it again. i'm rooting a friends phone and followed the instructions to the t. thanks in advanced.
