Hi,
Just tried this for you and its working fine on mine
Jas
Are you on T-Mobile? Have you disabled HTTP proxy? I ran the youtube app on my Hermes a few months ago, and I seem to recall it would only work if you bypassed T-Mobiles proxy.
Thats a very good point, thats caused me problems in the past with exchange and Slingplayer etc.
YouTube not working
Hi Guys,
I can't get youtube to work either, I have already disabled the proxy as that screwed up my exchange connection but I'm not even getting a list of videos, it just says that there is no connection available at this time - I am connected via GPRS.
I'll try it again tonight when connected through HSDPA and also via WIFI to see if T-Mobile is blocking me or it's just crap.
Youtube
Has anyone tried m.youtube.com?
it connects through your streaming media program, it works perfectly that way.
no issues wid youtube here! i will say that over GPRS it will not load as connection will time out! over HSPDA it works and with WIFI also. just palyed a 10 min video over HSPDA and didn't even stop to buffer once!
Yes tried to disable proxy but they were already disabled. On at&t running edge and wifi no worky Besides this issue awesome phone

Mine now works a treat, I needed a fast connection (HSDPA) to bring it into life but it now works even in regular GPRS.... although slow and buffers a lot! lol
Mine dont work either, it was working on wifi when at home. disabled proxy as emai wasnt working.
No issues with YouTube (T-Mobile Germany)

I am having the same problem with a TP2 on the ATT network. What I have noticed is that Youtube will work using the wi-fi but as soon as I use it on the EDGE network it renders the wi-fi inoperable. I can still view videos over the EDGE network but I can no longer view through the wi-fi connection. I have tried a soft reset but the only way it will work again is through a hard reset. I have also experienced it not working on both wi-fi and EDGE using a different ROM. I am currently using the Energy ROM 20090917 Standard and it was working fine over the Wi-Fi until I tried to view a video through the EDGE network.
The ROM I found that would work on both Wi-Fi and EDGE is the UDK TiRv1.1_0409, however the MMS didn't work because of Manila 2.5 so I switched to the above ROM with Manila 2.1.
Is there a way to clear the Youtube cache or reset its settings?
no issues here, you tube works flawlessly
Has anyone noticed certain vidoes that are inaccessible via Mobile? For example, I can't access Lonely Island's "I'm on a boat" video via youtube mobile on my tp2 but I have no problem seeing other more non-popular clips.
my youtube wont work
i keep getting a microsoft error message
anyone have any idea how 2 fix that
is there an android app that makes the phone think you are on wifi when on 3g? with the new wifi calling coming i would like to be able to do it via 3g. is there a way to do this?
What in the world are you talking about? The wifi calling app will use your T-Mobile phone number and minutes, emulating your cell signal. Why would you want to emulate something that's emulating what you're trying to emulate with?
I hope you aren't asking about how to falsify your usage, but even if you are it isn't possible through T-Mobile's wifi calling app.
let me explain i want to know wether or not it is possible to make your phone think that its 3G/4G signal is wifi? there is an app that does for the iphone and i was wondering if we could get this also. i asked because if so would it be possible to do the wifi calling over the 3/4G network?
Again... why would you want to do this? If you have 3G/4G use your regular cell radio.
The WiFi calling isn't free... it uses your minutes on your plan. So essentially you would be hurting yourself twice... using minutes as well as eating away at your 5GB limit.
I can see that concept being useful in other situations, such as using skype or frostwire, or something to that effect over 3G, but the man has a point. You use your minutes and your data just to make a phone call? Plus you also get sub-par quality due to the large amount on extra latency introduced?
There are only two situations I can think of that WiFi calling over 3G may be useful. One, you have the [email protected] feature ($9.99/mo) on your plan, making WiFi calls free and unlimited, or two, you have a non-T-Mobile SIM in the phone, and you are, hypothetically, out of the country, and would like to use your cell phone as a cell phone, and not have to be near a WirelessAP.
Lol....wow

I was jsut using wifi calling as an example. it currently bugs me that we have frostwire working on the phone yet we need to have wifi active to use it. i was just wondering if doing something like that is possible? it would make my life a whole lot easier.

I saw a cracked Skype app that will call over 3G, but I'm not sure about frostwire.
Another benefit I could see, is that I think if you leave the wifi area you drop the call. But if it would treat the cell signal as still wifi you wouldn't drop the call.

Nope, cell handoff is the technology that UMA provides, and at a hardware level. The T-Mobile wifi calling app is a software solution and not true UMA, and is not capable of this.
Also if you want to use frostwire or skype or whatever over 3G, you will have to mod the app itself (if it is even possible, but it's more likely T-Mobile has a filter on this sort of traffic)

One example: NFL app. If you use 3G it won't let you play videos (probably because they can tell you're not on Verizon).
Apparently per the NFL app thread, it's only T-Mobile users that are getting no video over cell networks. I've seen multiple other carrier users say it works fine for them there. Which kinda sucks...

There is a cracked version of skype that works over 3G/4G. I used it on a 30 min. phone call with a friend in China and the call quality was as good or better than most cell calls I've had within the US

About my3g
Hi everyone, so the issue is why I need to simulate a wifi conection, well there several good reason, but the important one maybe it's the possibility of download app from the PlayStore that requare a wifi signal (my need for speed Shift for example), and everyone knows the 3g network it's faster the wifi, the app my3g it's famous for the iOS users so we where wating for solution.
Thanks
oh man, i wish there was a My 3G for android..... i cant believe guys cant figure out why it would be good to have as well? some apps, like iCam only work over wifi, but with my3g, i could view my webcams at home, from my iPhone, without a wifi connection. awesome.... and nettalk, a voip app that works on wifi, worked great on my 3g!
Anyone found a way yet ?
An app that could simulate a wifi connection would be really usefull ... My3g on iphone is great . Im also thinking about going back with apple . The limitless possibility of android are limited by what I think is way too much dev on ios and not enough on android . So ios have everything and we dont . I dont have internet at home but I have unlimited data on my cell . So with no wifi I cant backup my cell on the cloud because its wifi only . Many games like modern combat 4 doesnt allow to play on cellular data . And someday someone gonna work to crack the game instead of making a my3g equivalent and resolve the problem once and for all . I would pay for that and so would a lot of ppl .

It would be very useful. It doesn't matter what someone wants to use it for but what matters is they want to know if there is an app for this. The iPhone has 2 jailbroken apps for this so why doesn't android have it? Or do they have one?
i was wondering if its possible to upload videos to youtube or facebook on 3g or 4g hate being tied to wifi that is slower than my cellular signal

You could always upload with 3G and 4G from my knowledge. I never had an issue. How are you uploading it?
I go into my Gallery and hit the Share button. Then I click Youtube. Type in my title and hit Upload. Works without a problem.
Same way you do but says large files must be uploaded through WiFi then says will upload when WiFi is connected from the notifications bar

Hello,
I have the epic 4g touch rooted with starburst rom. I installed android wifi tether app and I am able to connect to the wifi from laptop, but i cant actually browse to any websites. I can ping from cmd prompt to sites. When I use sprint hotspot everything works fine. Also is there an app that will let me tether at 4g speed?

3rd party tethering apps (ie, wifi tether, usb EasyTether, bluetooth tether) are not subjected to the 5GB Hot Spot Sprint limitation. The data used by these apps are seen as "phone data" which is unlimited, whereas Hot Spot data is limited to 5GB with overage charges/fees.
Am I right?
Plus... it's bad enough having the phone run on 4G now you want it to act like a wireless router transmitting over wifi to tether a laptop. HOT HOT HOT
I think 4G tethering is most efficient and "coolest" in temperature over USB Tethering. If you must tether wirelessly, then Bluetooth is probably better than wifi. Not as big of a battery drain.

hey so i dont have bluetooth on my laptop.. i just use it at work on my laptop to stream music, netflix etc. so which thrid party app would be recommended for 4g. I get great 4g signal at my office. Also i get really really crappy speed with usb tethering like 069 dwn and .65 up
what version of wifi tether are you using?
I'm using v3-beta-6. I can connect using 4g, browsing websites and such. But for some reason, the down steam speeds are capped at ~0.7Mbs when I run a speed test. On my phone, I get 10Mbs down. I know its using 4g because the ping time is much lower and my upload stream is 1.5Mbs.
On 3g, i'm only getting .85 Mbs down and 0.5Mbs up

Easytether app is what I use to tether over uab. works amazingly well with no slow down. I also use wifi tether beta 6 but not very often because it gets hot. Speeds are super fast for me over 4G USB tethering, like 8-10mbps.

I am a little confused because I see the link posted for the 4g hotspot fix which has been out for quite some time now. Also as far as it causing issues with Sprint you can rest assure if that was the case it would be posted all over this community. I am not sure why your phone is not working properly with the wifi tethers but I can assure you that Sprint Hotspot on our phone works quite lovely. Also the data usage restrictions do not apply for phones but for actual Hotspot devices. Please go to the link listed above flash the hotspot mod and enjoy life..... It works I am on it right now....

I'm not sure what hot spot thread you were in but the hot spot hack works on 3g and 4g. And it reads now with 4g not help with 4g... I've used it on both ek02 and el29 with no issues. I hardly ever use sprints crappy 3g and I'm tethering fine. Also take into consideration the hot spot is infrastructure and can be access by more than just computers unlike the tether apps on the market which all are ad hoc...

Meant to edit my 1st post and I quoted myself.. Wow I must be smoking some good ish!!!
I have Calk 2.8.1 which supports sprint 4g hotspot. But in reality, I can never get download speed past the 3g speed. Upload is fast but download seems to be capped to 3g speed a confirmed by other users. EasyTether blows them all away with 4g speed of 8-10 Mbps. But of course it is not wireless and does not support infra structure mode.
Here's what I did to get full 4g speed while tethering via wifi..
Go to market and install filter proxy..
Open application, enable it and remember port number (Default is 8000)
Start wifi tethering..
Setup proxy in your browser, point it to your phone's ip address and port 8000 (if you use default)
Do this for http, https and ftp..
And you are all set.. Test your speed.

I can't seem to find the exact app. Will this work with Sprint Hotspot WIFI tethering or just the 4G Android Wifi Tether.
I just tested Android WifiTether 3.1beta 6 and it seems to pass the full 4g speed to connected device. I am losing 10% or less in 5 tests.
when i am stream google play music on my phone using 3g 4g or wifi it over heats after a little bit. when its not charging or charging it does it. thats the only app that does it and only when im streaming not when im playing music on my phone. it seems to be constantly using data too so i was thinking it could be because of that and drains my battery like something serious too. pandora doesnt do any of the thing im mentioning at all.thanks for the help
Well I could very well see why it would on 3g. It's searching for signal and 3g speeds are slow for streaming via data. The app usually defaults to stream only on wifi, you must go into settings to enable streaming via data just because of that reason. I only stream on lte or wifi. Now you said it gets hot also on wifi or lte that I have no clue why it would do it.
