Is there an Android APP that can play the embedded subtitles of an MKV file? my phone can play the video flawlessly but it doesn't show the subtitles..
I hope there's a way without any need of converting..
Thanks..

Guys, I posted a workaround in another thread... > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6902833&postcount=9
hey buddy, does it play MKV downloaded straight from the net?
Like a 720p vid without needing to encode?

yes it does.. but no SUBS..
I've tried Naruto Shippuuden and Bleach both 720p by [Horrible Subs], Audio and Video works, but no Subs...
yeah I wanna know if there was an android video player out there, which can display embedded sub while watching hd content.
Check out this h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6902833&postcount=9 Right now it's the easiest solution.
Isn't that the OP's 'solution' ? haha
yes
he figured it out after
LOL
It still looks like there isn't a standalone player out there.
Using a few players it would either do one of the following:
1. Play the video in really good sharp resolution without dropping any frames, but here's no sound, and no subtitles. Ack!
2. Play the video in really awful quality with artifacts the size of Mount Tiwaluho but you got sound and subtitles, yet it's stuttering.
Can't win eh? Still, it seems that it is possible. The hardware is there. I think it's only a matter of time. Until then, we're better of using this workaround:

Try this
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/media_and_video/mkv-subextractor_ltlg_download.html
works fine for me
works with embedded srt and ass subs
I use mVideoPlayer, plays 720p mkvs with softsubs perfectly for me
Ah, i see The.Opethian and Volcacius beat me to it. And now I find out they just linked to one of the OPs other posts...

Cant play a movie file?

Damage Control 3.2.3
Brought an .avi movie over from my hard drive and when I click on it, I get options to play it via MixZing or Movies. Select Movies and a black screen loads but the phone locks up.
Is this the right formats to play with an Evo?
Nevermind.
Just found my answer.
just so that when people search they have the answer. By default .avi isnt supported with the movies player, You can use Rockplayer (from market) and play .avi or if you want to play a video on your EVO movie player you need it to be MP4
Pr0nz .

But with this I have see Season 3 all!
Also with Supernatural and Big Bang!
This week in promotion
TV Shows Stream and Movie Stream are in promotion ( 50% Off ) until the end of the week. Remember that you can try the free lite version called "TV Shows Stream lite"
TIP: Now is also possible to download the tv episodes and movies if you have installed "real player beta" and you select this player as "External player" method inside the tv shows and movie apps.
Hi,
Can you tell us what miui rom are you using? ^^
And i see the in the youtube video that you use the native android player with the "external players" option, it can be choppy ocasionnally with some video formats. I whould recomment using "Rock Player". It has given us very good result for playing streams.

Hi,
Im using MIUI 1.7.4
But im now back on the origininal 2.3 gingerbread.
And Rockplayer is also the best!:_)

Galaxy Nexus horrible media type support!

I am in disbelief that this super google phone can't play half the stuff my galaxy tab can play ...
-.mp3 yes
-.wma no
-.rmvb no
-.mkv no
-.avi (xvid) yes but choppy
-.avi (mp4) yes ok
I wish people reviewing the phone would have mentions this. Anyway, Feel free to add to the list like ogg, etc.
Its only software
I don't think it is worth mentioning it is only software. Maybe try using Rock Player or Doubletwist to play your files.
And anyway, who would want to use WMA anyway? Use Handbrake to convert to a mobile friendly format (h264) which takes less space and has higher quality.
Have u tried media players from the market? Heard those work great.

I tried MX video player for the video, and it could play all videos--though xvid on HW is jerky (~20fps) and I had to switch it to SW mode. And it still choke at 1080p mkv (~10fps).
I tried winamp for audio but neither seems to want to play wma...I could convert them but that's an extra step...
Besides, I know the galaxy series could play them fine, that's why I feel this is a step backward.
I can watch 1080p mkv's super smooth with Dice Player, and it has played everything i threw at it without any problemas whatsoever. Overreact much?
Diceplayer fixed choppy avi playback in the latest update, unfortunately you can't buy the full version at the moment.
V player works fine, I covert videos to mp4. They play great natively

MKV is just a container so you're wrong, it does play MKV, you just need to make sure its encoded properly.

You obviously don't understand what a "Nexus" phone is. Plenty of choice out there that support these kind of files OOTB. Otherwise as others have stated go grab some goodies from the Market.
MFW people cant read :\
http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
dude, there are lots of 3rd party apps to cover the missing formats
MoboPlayer is free in Android Market, one of the best open source players for every format
many of which there's build in hardware support

Do 720p mkv files work flawlessly without re-encoding?

Hi everyone,
I first got to say that I have not yet purchased GalaxyNexus. However I have a big concern in regards to 720p HD video files from the net. I realized this on my Galaxy Tab10.1 after I bought it that most HD files need to be re-encoded in order to run without lag or being choppy. I was very disappointed with that.
Would someone tell me how is the performance of mkv files on GalaxyNexus.
Thanks.

Yes, use MX Player from the market, it can run just about anything smoothly
Or try dice player, only problem is its not allowing me to buy full version after 3 days trial has ran out, anyone know a way around that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
heck it plays 1080p mkvs flawlessly. I have a 11gb mkv of Drive that sits on my phone just to show off. Now to get that MHL adapter.

I tried a sample of 1080p mkv on mxplayer and it was choking on SW only (no HW available). What player did you use?

Whether it plays depends on a lot of things. The video format, (MKV is just a container), the audio format and most importantly the bitrate. A lot of desktop PCs will chunder along if the bitrate is too high for it's hardware to handle, so a phone will struggle even more.
The bottleneck seems to be the speed of the internal storage, for me. It plays stuff flawlessly, but if I play a 1080p file with a super high bitrate, it's all choppy.

I watched a 3 gig mkv file of a 1 hour season finale of flashpoint (anybody watch it BTW?) and it was flawless. Jules was as amazing as ever, and Ed was as bald as ever.

The first rule of Usenet is, you don't talk about Usenet.
Is there a trick to getting these super large files on your phone? Everytime I've tried to drag an 8GB file over it complains it only takes files under 4GB. Are you splitting them?

I used diceplayer trial. That app is great. hopefully they get it working soon so I can get the full version.
not sure what your guys issue with dice player is. I have it on mine and it plays mkvs, wmvs, avis flawlessly
Dice Player plays high bitrate 1080p flawless for me. The only problem is the trial is only available so you have to uninstall and reinstall every 3 days.

The problem is the dev's actually. The account he was using to receive payment for the full version got suspended (for whatever reason), and due to that he isn't able to continue selling the full version anymore. If you were an early adopter (like I was, due to having a Asus Transformer), it's a non-issue because you already bought it. I'm not sure why the dev is taking forever to fix the issue.
EDIT:And on that note, I also must say that all MKV files I have downloaded work perfectly fine on my nexus using diceplayer. Both 720P and 1080P (only tried 1, just to see if it worked, since it is rather pointless unless you're outputting to a TV) work just fine and without any issues for me. I haven't tried any strangely encoded files yet, but so far all normal HDTV encoded files worked just fine.

It's smooth once it get's hardware decoded.
No smartphone processor can decode 1080p without lag, which is exactly why OMAP put an IVA-HD chip inside to do all the work.
Much like the rest of the members I use dice player and it plays everything i throw at it. I use to have an issue with 12mbps MP4 files but they seem to have corrected that and now it is smooth for everything i throw at it.
is there a place to buy the full version or obtain one by other cough cough means?
