Trying to decide on a case for an evo. Hopefully getting an evo with my upgrade January first and just trying to do my due diligence. Have an otterbox commuter for my hero and love it.
What case do you have?
Pros and cons?
Screen protector necessary? Never had one on my hero but I know the evo's screen is much bigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Seidio rugged
I have the seidio rugged case for my evo. Its only about 40 bucks off ebay. I like it better then both the otterbox and ther ballistic. It looks better...has more protection and if for any reason you ever have to take it off its alot easier to remove then the other cases.

I have 2 Seidio Rugged cases and they both fell apart with mild use. The tabs on the end snapped off and the covers are peeling. The thin rubber also tore off with time.
I have 2 Trident Cyclops cases now, they feel like they are built much better. It seems slightly sleeker but I think it offers at least as much protection.
For heavy duty use, go Ballistic.

i agree with this.
go with trident or ballistic.
personally i love my trident cyclops.
With the Trident do you not have the rainbow issue on screen from screen protector?
Also heard that pictures from the camera have a blue tint with the Cyclops on.
Aosp froyo, It's the poop!
the ballistic has more protection than any case out right now. the design of the ballistic is delightful. it is EXTREME protection. it has a built in screen protector and an additional screen protector thats optional. you can drop the phone from the ceiling to your floor and it will save the phone.. i have a mint grey ballistic case im selling for $30 bux shipped in the classifieds. smoke it over and look at the photos to check it out.
without the silicon jacket the ballistic case is close in size to the otterbox defender. you can use the included holster with or without the silicon jacket if you dont need the full protection. all ports are covered with the silicon jacket on (rubber flaps over the jack and bottom ports) the camera, LED lamps and speaker on back are all protected. the
IMO the Ballistic case is a much superior product. second to that would be the otterbox....
Thats weird. I work construction and trust me ive pushed this case to the limit and its held up everytime. Ive had it since june and it still fits just as snug as day1. As far as the ballistic my co-worker had a ballistic on his htc incredible and his cracked while in his pocket simply by stepping up a latter. The preesure of his jeans pushing down was enough to crack it. I dropped my seidio down a elevator shaft and simply scuffed my belt holdster

yeah, sometimes i get a rainbow effect in certain areas, even with the premium protector. i don't really notice it when the screen is on though.
the blue tint is from the piece of plastic they put inside to cover the camera and led's. i just popped it out.
I think it really depends on what you're going to be doing with your phone, where you're going to be most of the time, and how likely you are to drop it.
To say that any one case is the "best" case for the evo (and any phone/thing you put a case on lol) would be wrong, imo.
Say you're looking for looks -- you'd go for something like a barely there from casemate
Say you're looking for full on rugged protection -- you'd go for something like the ballistic
For reference, I've heard not great things about build quality of the Defender from Otterbox, and Seidio cases. *anecdotal, so take it as you will*
As I said in another thread, I have the Impact series case from Otterbox.
Fits my needs, so it's the "best" case for me.

Unless I'm missing something, they don't make any Ballistic cases for the Incredible...
Ballistic does not make cases for the Incredible. The only HTC phone they have a case available for is the HTC EVO. www.goballisticcase.com
I'm currently using an Otterbox Defender for mine and its holding well. I'm interested in a Ballistic HC because since they introduced it the case looks like a step up from the Defender. I've seen videos and read the personal reviews of people who have had both and the HC is "better" according to most. It all depends on where your phone will be and what you'll be doing with it. I don't really care much about the size. I want a case that is going to protect my $500 investment.
If you want the best protection for your EVO I'd say Ballistic HC or Otterbox Defender. Each is $50 or you can check out the Trident Cyclops which is only $34.95.
if you dont mind the size, the Ballistic blows away the otterbox and the Trident for protection.....
I prefer the Fishbone case...I paid $12 bucks for it and so far it is great for me.

I had the tough case for my Samsung Vibrant and I loved it.
I like the platinum gun metal case I got when I got the phone.
It's lightweight and thin. There is felt on the back inside so it doesn't scuff up your phone. The corners of the front also help to keep my invisible shield in place in case it decided to wander around in the heat.
best case for me
I got a Seidio Innocase for X-mas to replace the one I got with the phone. That, plus an Invisishield is all the protection I need and it suits me. I wanted to try the Impact Series Otterbox, so I ordered one. They sent me a Defender Series and when I called them up they just sent me the right one, no questions asked. I have them both still, but don't use them. The Defender is, well, I just don't drive a tank or work in a war zone, so I don't really need it (and yes, the kick stand on that case is an absolute joke...). The Impact Series Otterbox just sticks in my pocket too much and I can't get it out as easily, but it looks adequate I suppose. The Innocase is great for me, doesn't stick in my pocket, has felt on the back so it doesn't scratch or scuff my device and isn't too bulky. That's why Santa got me another one.
P.S. I think the snap in the back slide-in broke b/c I was pulling it apart quite often to do battery pulls (cause not all ROMs are stable...) and didn't just leave it out of the case like I should have... Only time I've taken the new one off was tonight to put my new Seidio extended 1750 mAh Innocell battery Santa brought in before bedtime to charge over night (ok, maybe one other time...)
Not Swyped from anywhere cause my battery is being conditioned (duh!)
I have the Innocase active in blue.It came down to what I really wanted the case to do for me or rather my phone as well.
I wanted protection first and for most, then comfort in my hand and then looks.
It is a little bulky but that bulk is my protection from waste high drops. My 3 year old nephew has tested it out for me by throwing it on the hard wood floor standing on the kitchen chair...lol
It feels really good to the touch and unless your hands are on the smaller side, you will enjoy the fit.I wear a large glove so it fits me good.
It looks great. The fit and finish are very good.It will take getting use to.A little harder push to operate the power button but a fingernail tip makes it easier.
Now for the wearing it issue...It,while in the case on your side will be odd at first.I am a bigger guy,5`11 228 but my waste is 36.I notice it a lot more than say a smaller framed 150 pounder would but,it does stay put on my belt.I just rotate the top of the phone 90 degrees facing the front of my body and it rides that way with no issues at all.
Worth the money in my opinion.
I having a hard time picking a case I need help willing to spend up to 30 dollars on one
What are you looking for in the case? Drop/shock protection, or just cosmetic protection? There's a lot of cases, but it's really personal preference.

Also are you using an extended battery or stock battery. That will make a difference too because of the size.
I have tried all three cases from Otterbox for the EVO. They all come with rigid screen protectors (not the flimsy, static ones). The Impact is a silicone case that offers good protection, but like all silicone cases, makes it difficult to get in and out of a pocket or pouch. On the other end, the Defender case offers the best protection, but also doubles the size of the phone. The included snap-in holster/stand only adds to the bulk. Not very practical at all. The middle case, the Commuter, is Best all around case. It is a plastic outer shell and silicone inner providing great protection while making easy to get in and out of pouches and pockets. This case provides the best protection I have seen without adding too much bulk. This case does not fit in the HTC EVO pouch, but it fits nicely in a Droid X pouch.
I use the Innocase from Seidio with a holster. It slides on and protects the phone well. I had one for my Nexus One for a year (I just got my EVO) and never had any quality issues.
I use the Innocase from Seidio with a holster too, but it not worth buying mine already pealling and looks horible
Got my otterbox commuter on eBay for 20 bux the other day after trying out various other cases, couldn't be happier and haven't looked back

I have the 40 dollar innocase and holster. I rolled my ankle and landed right on my phone that was on my belt. case was pretty scratched up and phone flew out of my holster and landed several feet away. No damage to phone and I am a big guy 275# all on my phone on gravel.
It is time for me to get a new innocase because in places it is cracked, but again I did fall on it. I did notice that the small piece of plastic by the power button cracks. I will buy another case but use my same holster, still in good condition.
case-mate...tough ;D
Ballistic HC, $30 and Uber Tough

I used the Seidio Innocase Rugged for a couple months. Never any issues and good protection, but didn't care for the looks and always removed it as soon as I got home from work.
About 3 weeks ago I bought the Ballistic HC in red/black and absolutely love it! Looks and feels MUCH better than the Seidio. I found my self just removing the outer silicone after work and keeping the case on I like it so much. A co-worker also has the Seidio and is now going to buy the Ballistic after seeing and holding mine. I was originally skeptical of the way the built in screen protector would feel, and/or affect the use of the screen. I was happily surprised at how I don't even know its there, it looks and feels like your touching the actual screen. Plus, what other case can you run over with a car and not damage your phone?!
There is an ebay vendor who has them for under $30 shipped, I received it in 2 days....awesome!!
I just recently not only got an Evo, but I also picked up the Ballistc HC in black and red from Amazon.com. I love this case. It does come with an additional rubber cover that goes over all of it but it's just too big for my pocket at that point.
It comes with an awesome holster if you use phone holsters at all. There is a "oil slick" effect if put the Ballistic on your phone. To get rid of it there is the ballistic baby powder fix (youtube it) or you can do what I did and just install the included screen protector that sticks to the screen.
This thing has some serious heft, you can tell it will withstand a lot of damage.
I paid $26.99 with 2 day shipping because I signed up for Amazon prime for a free month. I ordered it Sunday morning and got it Tuesday morning.
I highly recommend the Ballistic HC.
I currently own the Ballistic, Seido Rugged, Otterbox Defender, Otterbox Commuter, and Trident Cyclops. My two favorites out of all of these cases (yes i know i have alot of cases, hard to decide on which to use), are the Trident Cyclops, and the Otterbox Commuter.

I have the commuter as well and the protection is great but the silicone near the bottom of the case becomes loose and it bothers the hell out of me. They will send a new case with the warranty though.
Edit: Just got my Incipio case and I love it, the Otterbox has been retired.
I'm using the seido innocase active. Works well now but I do want to try the commuter. Reason I didn't buy the commuter is cuz the reviews I read about the the bottom geting loose. But tried it on from the store it looks really good.

The kraken series for the TB is shipping now in red and pink!
http://www.tridenteer.com/categories/HTC-ThunderBolt/
I've never seen one of those cases, they look pretty sweet!!!!
Says in the description that it comes with a belt-clip/holster, guess I'll order the green when it comes in stock, if they don't add much bulk over the Seidio Active I'm using now..
I just received the Trident Aegis case, in black, for my TB and can tell you this is one very high quality case. I had an Otterbox Commuter for my DINC and it was kinda cheesy for the price. The Aegis is what I'd consider the equivalent of the OB Commuter, but much higher quality. If anyone is sitting on the fence deciding between the Otterbox Defender and this newly released Kraken, I'd lean towards the Kraken.
I'd like to get the Aegis case - anyone know of any coupon codes?
What an awesome looking case! Great find I like that it has the dust covers over the mic and cam. And here I was all set to buy an Otterbox Defender case tomorrow lol.
The Seidio Defense case they sell at Best Buy under the name PT is pretty solid as well, it has a rubber covering over the cam that you just flip around when you need to use it, but I had to pass on it since it has no built in screen protector. I enjoy having a completely wrapped phone.
After perusing the Aegis cases, I gotta say I love the color/pattern scheme of it, but I would prefer the protection the Kraken offers, though I'm not as big on the Kraken look. Such a tough choice!

I have an Aegis on my Nook Color, and it does attract lint on the rubber bits. Wouldn't be a huge deal for me as I don't put mine in my pocket normally (I use the belt clip on my phone pretty much all the time).
Anybody who ordered the Aegis for the TB, did it have a clip included, or is it just the case only?
Aegis series is just the case... I use it with the Seidio Active Holster I bought...
How do the Kraken series cases compare with the Otterbox Defender? Was holding out for the Otter, but now these have intrigued me.

I just recieved my Aegis case. It's a good case. I'm coming from an HTC Eris with Otterbox dual layer case. This case isn't dual layer, but it's dual sided, and seems tougher around the corners where contact is most likely to be made. It looks good, feels good in the hand. It does add bulk and will set you back $20-30. The heft of this device with the case is closing on half a pound!

It does perfect! I use the Aegis case and Seidio Active Holster.
I have had the Otterbox defender on since day one. And it protects great. Today i took it off to swap my battery and remembered how great this phone looks without it. But I'm not one to go unprotected.
I'm looking for suggestions on other cases. Something that protects but necessarily the bulk of the Otterbox. I work a office job so rugged case isn't too necessary.
Must be compatible with the extended battery.
I was looking at the SGP Neo hybrid cases but they say coming soon on the website.
Please share your suggestions. Thanks guys.

Hey, i have the commuter case on for a few days now and i love it. It adds just enough bulk and size to the phone to make is sit and feel perfect in my hand. But everyones hands are different so not all will think its great. I did however order the Neo Hybrid case in Reventon yellow and should have it tomorrow or saturday and ill let you know how it is and feels along with some pics, and possibly a small review.
But so far i LOVE the commuter case. should take a look at it. i wrote up a review but i have to do a few more posts before xda lets me post it lol
I have the Otterbox Defender as well and am surprised at how much I like it... Typically like nothing on my phones but gotta have protection on this beauty...
Just got an Incipio Silicrylic in the mail to try... Definitely less bulk than the Otterbox... You can actually see some of the sexy lines of the Nexus with this case.... The Incipio provides some protection, as it does have at least some hard plastic to it, but not anything close to the Otterbox.. Not sure that my GNex would survive a fall on a hard surface in the Incipio....
Problem with the Incipio is that it will not fit in the Otterbox holster or the Verizon holster that I already have, so probably will go back to the OB Defender...
Anybody interested in making me an offer on a brand new Incipio or Verizon Case & Holder I will listen....
One reason for my Otterbox purchase was the holster. But i have never used it. It's too big to have clipped on my side.
I know no case will protect like the defender but im good with my phones to get a scaled down case. I thought about the commuter but not sure how much size difference there is.
What price you looking at for your incipio?

I watched a review and it said with the extended battery the plastic outer shell just fit tightly against the silicone as it does at the top. Did you notice this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Fit tight w/extended battery in, but not a problem in my opinion... I would bet it might even loosen up a bit over time...
I like the Incipio's look and feel... Much smaller size than OB, but have to have a holster to carry my GNex..
It doesn't have quite the amount of protection (ie not waterproof) like the defender but soon Ballistic will release their case for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and will be giving my Nexus S to my wife. My wife is like a phone's worst nightmare. She seems to always be dropping them and my two kids are both under 3 and the oldest loves to snatch our phones. I got the Ballistic case for the Nexus S for her and after putting it on yesterday I'm a believer. I already have it covered completely by Ghost Armor skin, and with the Ballistic case it's just very well protected. The bumpers on the corners are amazing and so is the fit and finish. Makes the phone pretty bulky (not as much as the defender) but it makes the phone much nicer to hold and type on. I would recommend it for the Galaxy Nexus. I have a TPU case on order but will pick up the Galaxy Nexus version Ballistic case too once it is released.

Do you have any quick impressions/pics of the Neo Hybrid? It'll be interesting to see how well it fits the LTE GNex since it was designed for the GSM non-extended battery GNex.
I have the Incipio Silicrylic (aka Double Cover, VZW repackaged). It's a nice case and it fits well on the phone. It doesn't add too much bulk. I like that the hard cover goes around the corners, unlike the Otterbox Commuter. Cutouts for the phone are nice. No need to mess around with clumsy flaps. And the buttons work well under the silicone cover. Great case for less. I got mine at the Verizon store for $20 +tax after a discount. I don't use a holster, but I am looking into getting an XO Skin.
Another alternative that I was initially looking at was the Seidio Surface Combo. It's a hard soft-touch case with a holster, if you need the holster. They also sell it without.
i need help deciding on a rugged case. i've read mixed reviews on all. my main concern is drop protection.
the lifeproof seems nice and slim, but i'm worried it wont provide enough drop protection
i currently have a otterbox defender on my razr maxx, and it is my favorite case. however, i've never dropped it, so i can't comment on the drop protection. i thought for sure it would be my go-to case for the s3, but i've read many people say that otterbox dropped the ball on the defender for the s3. stating that drops cause the screen to break and the screen protector is lifted too far from the screen. i'm aware that the silicone stretches out over time, and i'm ok with that. since otterbox has terrific customer service. is the defender really that bad of a case for the s3?
i also have a trident kraken for my maxx. it is a nice stylish case, but i never use it because it is very slippery and hard to hold. the s3 seems to have a different design that might not be so slippery. but i also haven't read as many reviews for it as some of the others.
i've always seen the griffin survivor cases in stores, but only for iphones. they look very nice and rugged, but i dont have any experience with one. it would seem to offer the same protection as the defender. one concern i have is the port covers seem loose. like they would come open every time you pulled the phone out of your pocket.
the ballistic hardcore seems to be the same design as the defender and survivor.
the otterbox armor seems like it would be a great case. but many drop tests on youtube show the case constantly coming open upon impact. and many reviews complain about sound quality.
i will probably also get a UAG case for weekends, but for now, i'm more concerned on more rugged cases.

Otterbox Armor gets my vote, it's a beast of a case. I've had the Griffin survivor and trident Kraken. Both great cases, but the trident case the plastic eventually broke on a drop, and the kickstand rattled like crazy. The Griffin survivor was a great case, but i got tired of opening a flap to take pictures.
As far as the Defender case it never impressed me and it's not dust proof.
In the end no case can protect your phone from every single drop. It comes down to luck.
Sent from Under water
Do you have problems with the sound quality with the armor? And how does the survivor compare to the defender? Since they use the same technology. The silicone looks a little beefier on the survivor.
Sent from my Motorola RAZR MAXX using Tapatalk 2
Sound quality for me is good enough for me, you can tell a difference but i either got use to it or it went away.
The survivor and defender are no where near the same imo. The survivor's exterior has a lot more grip to it. And as i said before the defender is not dust/dirt proof, the survivor is.
The survivor is also water resistant, meaning it could take a light rain, but not a submerging.
My armor case saved my phone from a 1 story drop onto rocks, I've taken it swimming multiple times. Also it has to be the easiest case to take on and off when needed.
But every drop is different, the only thing a case will do is provide a extra barrier. If dropped just at the right angle anything can break.
People put a lot of false hope in cases and then try to blame the manufacturer when the phone breaks.

none of the above. If i needed serious drop protection again, i would go with bodyglove toughsuit case. even the slimmer version has great protection, called the shocksuit. Ive had them both
Armor case for me as well.

any experience with the other cases mentioned? or is the armor the only one you've tried? comparisons would be nice.
I have had the defender, commuter, ballistic SG MAXX, and Lifeproof as of now. Ballistic and defender did their job well but did not care for the silicone stretching. Commuter works well considering. Lifeproof has been great this far. No major tumbles so I cannot vouch for how well it stands up to concrete or asphalt in major drops but it is waterproof and sound quality is good.

To throw in one more choice for ya ... Pure gear PX260 or PX360 ,. I have a 360 and it is a BEAST. Not waterproof but built like a tank and has a place for a snap hook and is held on with screws ..
