I have a couple questions in regards to the two different ROMS. I'm currently running Gingervillain v1.4. Didn't update to 1.5 because there was a bug or something that I read into that made me decide not to update.
Now, with the release of CM7, I would like to know if I should flash this.
The main problems I have with Gingervillain that's irritating are:
1) WiFi Calling does not work
2) Sometimes screen does not go on after hitting the unlock button (talks about this being an OC issue)
3) a bunch of random reboots
But I found it extremely convenient that Gingervillain included an OC kernal within their ROM so it saved me time and research. Does CM7 have an OC kernal built in too? And what are some MAIN issues that CM7 suffer from? I've read in a few but I wanna know of the main things that will cause a problem in daily usage (I heard GPS had issues).
Get CM7. Nothing against GV but all u seek is in CM7.

I have no issues with CM7, GPS gets a lock in less than five sec., been using it since Build 0 and yes it comes with an OC'd kernel.
CM7 RC1 all the way lol. No issue at all for me

Been using CM7 since nightly #30 (were on #40 now). WiFi calling works, GPS now seems to work for everyone (confirmed working just fine locks in <10 sec), and I've never had a reboot.
I'm running at 1017mhz OC and no screen on/off issues or wakelock, although I've heard that people overclocked are having some issues here and there. I've also replaced ADW with the stock GB launcher and its extreeeemely smooth.
get cm7 rc1
Wow... majority rules... CM7 here I come.. LOL
I dont know if my gps isn't working or if it's just taking a stupid long amount of time to lock on to satellites. How can I make sure my gps is working?

1) using wifi calling in GV1.5, no issues for me.
2) OC'd screenlock issue fix: use Interactive scaling instead of on-demand.
3) (I haven't had random reboots on any gingerbread roms so I can't help you there )
not saying don't go CM7 - pretty obvious that it's a solid rom, but I quite like GV1.5 on my G2. it's snappier for me, even at stock clocks.
I run GV1.5 the exact same way I was running CM7 - same settings, LauncherPro with 1 homescreen and 2 dock screens and 3D drawer, 1113/368 with interactive scaling and no profiles set up (haven't needed to yet).
the main reason I switched from CM7 is that LauncherPro would FC every time I started my phone. GV1.5 fixed that for me. other than that, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these roms at this point...
plus, GV2.0 is fast approaching
I have a gray GPS icon in the notification bar when I'm trying to use it. But I've waited over 15 minutes without a lock-on.
Is my GPS not functioning, or is it just taking ridiculously long to lock on??

Long time lurker first time poster... so don't beat me up too bad.
I'm looking at jumping into the CM7 world and am looking for some input.
I've used multiple versions of Skyraider up to 3.5 and loved them until they began getting a bit laggy (tried multiple kernels). I'm now using myn's warm 2.2 and ziggy's kernel with great success. Phone operates VERY smooth and all features work (not even sure why I want to try something new... guess I'm bored?).
Long story short, my phone is a daily driver and needs good battery life and all features to work (BT, camera, data, WiFi, etc...). I don;t mind flashing a few ROM's but it gets quite time consuing setting up the desktop screens, apps, calendars, etc...
I see that some builds break things, some fix things and it's hard to know which build does what. Many folks feel CM7 is the greatest thing since the Atari 2600; so here's my question:
What build are you using?
Does the phone scroll and transition smoothly?
All features working?
Getting FC's?
And yes... I have done quite a bit of reading on the CM7 nightly thread and others as well. People have a tendancy to post issues, not sucesses so it's difficult to find a good stable GB ROM.
Im on the latest release #37 I believe Using slayhers .37 kernal.
Love it. Altho, ever since I installed .37 kernal I've had my phone randomly reboot between 7:30 am - 9:00 am
I have yet to find out why... and it's only durring those hours too
I'm loving this ROM. Every time i go back to a sense, rom, i end up flashing cm6/7 back.
There are good things about cm6 and cm7... cm6 has a better camera app, probably more stable, but cm7 brings all the little things together, like multitouch keyboard + maps, it's snappy, the txting lag has been much improved. I think they are going to drop RC1 tonite..
I'm using build #33 with Chad's.37 kernel and everything's been running perfectly for the past few days. I don't think I've had a single FC or reboot. Battery life has also been very good, been using it pretty heavily all day and I'm down to 50%.
Just flashed 38, Have also used pretty much all the 20's 31 and 32. .37 Slayher Homebrewed #14
No reboots. I would say I could count the FCs on one hand easily and honestly don't blame the build I blame the app.
I used a number of roms before. Most of them from Rom manager. Now I am strictly a CM guy. Love these builds. I don't use Rom manager anymore either, just manually flash.
Personally, I'm someone who generally avoids experimental roms that still have incomplete functionality. Like you, my phone is a daily driver and I need to be able to rely on it. But CM7 was getting such rave reviews, I started to read up on it. It seemed that by the time I was hopping onto the bandwagon (nightly build 27 or so), everything was functional, there were just some things to be polished here and there.
It would be an understatement to say that I've been pleased.
To answer your questions specifically:
What build are you using? - Just flashed to #38, but have used a number of the builds
Does the phone scroll and transition smoothly? - Yes. For whatever its worth, I use LauncherPro Plus rather than ADW (which is what CM7 comes with)
All features working? - Yes. At least everything that I use.
Getting FC's? - Nothing that can't be traced back to another issue besides CM7
Don't get me wrong, I've had some tiny issues here and there, and some weird interactions, but nothing critical, and nothing that has stopped me from using this as my only rom.
I still keep old nandroids of the last two roms I used before CM7, but unless something drastic changes, they will just collect dust.
I've been using CM7 as a daily driver since like build 11, I haven't had any problems at all and its nice seeing new things added with each build
My dinc runs CM7 with the modified slayher .37 kernel. I runs super fast, but I haven't really noticed a significant increase in battery life. It used to crash, but since I set the wifi sleep policy to never, I have not had any problems.
build#38 ran awesome. no force closes and great battery life 20 hours or more. id say give it a try.
Just flashed RC1. Going great so far with only a few FC's that were solved with a simple reinstall.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Did RC1, shaky, but amazing. Running 39 and it is better, has a lot of fixes that RC1 was plagued with. Like the rotary lock in the call screen.
I've been following CM7 development since Crackflashers. The rom has come a long way. Many people had problems with the first RC1 release because a mistake was made and those who did a clean wipe were locked out of the system. -Guess that should serve as a lesson to always nandroid first-
My advice is to continue flashing nightlies. As previously mentioned, the code will continue to improve and you will receive the latest fixes and features. Save yourself the trouble and clear cache and Dalvik before every flash. No need to wipe data.
Does anybody happen to know if there is a .37 version of the invisiblek kernel that includes the wifi sleep policy fix?
Its been working fine for me. The only problem I am having is that trackball wake doesn't function. I've made sure its selected int he CM settings, but I can press the trackball until kingdom come and it won't do anything. Looking at the dev. thread, I'm either the only one experiencing it, or the only one who cares.
SD card not mounting
flashed CM7 yesterday, really like how it runs. problem is my SD card won't load on the phone! I tried two different cards but no luck. recovery won't mount them either so I can't restore a nandroid backup. help!
also when I reboot most of the time, it'll show the htc incredible screen then go black and vibrate 5 times.
I'm running CM7 nightly #2 with the 2.6.37 incredikernel and it's great. Everything is very smooth and I can't seem to find anything that refuses to work. I had fc's when I first flashed the rom but fixing permissions in rom manager did the trick, since then I've had no problems.
I flashed CM7 as soon as they posted RC1 to ROM manager. I was skeptical at first and had a bunch of FC issues until I ran fix permissions (AFTER you install all apps). Haven't had issues since and my battery is lasting longer than ever, even without Juice Defender. Performs great. Can't wait until they get to adding more features like 6.1 had.

Is it just me, or did Cyanogenmod lose some customization options from CM6.1 to CM7?
I dont see many editing options under CyanogenMod Settings and miss the ones from CM6.1
I'm on Build #41 and I can say a few things:
1) Battery life sucks on the Incredible no matter what. So just accept that. That being said, with Incredikernel .37 and CM7 Build 41, my battery life is "acceptable" compared to completely unacceptable with any other kernel or Sense Rom combination.
2) Random reboots. I don't know if it's just my phone, but even after trying three different .37 kernels, fixing permissions and re-flashing, my phone will go through "reboot anxiety attacks" where it reboots once every 10-12 minutes and then it will be fine for a whole day. It's not at specific times either.
3) Honeybread Theme - Get it. That's all.
4) Turn off wifi sleep completely. It seemed to curb some battery issues I was having.
Thanks All...
I went ahead and took the plunge and I don't regret it
I had some issues with RC1 and had to go to nightly #38. Everything has been solid with the exception of 2 random reboots (in the last 3 days). Not sure why but this isn't a show stopper.
I'll likley wait a while before flashing another nightly build.
So far so good. Batter life is ok... I know the Inc isn't the best for battery life but I got a bit better with Myn's ROM.
My quadrant numbers have improved (I know... relatively meaningless) and the UI is quite smooth.
Thanks to the development team... You've done a great job !!!
Anyone else get a random black screen of death with CM7? To clarify, when you open an app, the screen will just black out except for the notification bar. Sometimes you have to force stop the app and re-launch it. This happened once and I couldn't even get into Settings | Applications to force stop it, as that was "BSOD" also. I had to reboot. There's no specific app that it happens with, either.
Also happens regardless of the kernel I'm using. HW0003.
It drove me nuts for the last time today and I rolled back to completely stock Sense 2.2 ROM. I already miss CM7
Is this something fixable? I really don't want to use Sense UI until they release the official Sense/2.3 update (I have the 100% brightness problem with the leaks). I can't imagine the CM brains would overlook a problem like this.
I would just recommend a complete wipe...wipe again..and again..and oh yeah, wipe dalvik a few times too. Then try to reflash CM7 and see what that does for you. And try using the stock kern for a while, then switch and see if the issue replicates.
My 2 Cents,

CM7 Final (7.0). Kernel that it comes with. Happened when I was using Savaged-Zen kernels also.
EDIT: Used to happen with the nightly's and RC's, too.
Been running CM7 since before RC1 release and currently on CM7.0.2.1 with Timat kernel and never had a bsod
Try flashing a different aosp rom.. There are several that are actually off cyn7. I like kings gb myself couple of different builds there.. Did you try fixing permissions? download the rom from web again. And then reflash.. I had a similar problem on destroyer rom think I got a bad link or computer corrupted the download.
Kings GB Destroyed EVO
It could be a lot simpler; make sure your programs are compatible with Gingerbread
Despite having compatibility mode, I still get issues with certain apps.
Yes, this is happening to me, mostly with Messages and Maps. I am using Tiamat, CM7 final
Try this rom, it is based off CM7 but is WAY more stable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000676
for my phone anyway, cm7 is buggy and gives me bsod and random reboots. sucks because i am a die-hard CM fan
I used to get this issue alot when using an older build and savage zen. I know exactly what you're talking about. Flashing the #57 and switching to tiamat 3.3.8 fixed the blackscreens for me.

Rather bump my old thread than start a new one. These problems still happen using the latest "stable" build and the kernel that it comes with. I thought it was the launcher at first, but it happens with LP or ADW.
This is massively frustrating.
I've wiped and reflashed so many times I'm going to puke. I've even used Caulkin's wipe .zip script.
EDIT: Add these to the list of issues:
1. Sometimes when you are typing a URL or something into the browser address bar, the letters don't show up as you type
2. Sometimes when you hit the numbers button on the default keyboard, nothing happens, so you're "typing blind"
The Black Screen of Death happens to lots and lots of various programs, not just ones that "aren't compatible" -- like Gmail, messaging, Market, it's also prevented me from going to Settings | Applications to kill apps off, too...
Use this script and Godmode kernel. Its ridiculous how amazing this is

When it was happening to me last night, I had to yank the battery to get into recovery from boot because **** wasn't working. I did a full wipe and restored my stock backup.
I'd say that I'll miss CM7, but I won't miss the massively frustrating problems. I'll patiently await tomorrow's update.
I'm suffering a lag issue, however, I can't remember if it was like this after I shoved Gingerbread onto the phone and also the latest radio. I get a 1 second delay when pressing the power button to bring up the lock screen. I know the phone, stock 2.2, it didn't suffer such lag.
Anyone else have this issue or know of a lagfix I can put onto it? I won't be putting any ROMs onto the phone, haven't found any Gingerbread ROMs that I like (and are stable).
I don't have it on random rom egret
Try the supercharger mod
If that doesn't work buy tegrak ultimate from the market and overvolt your phone

I'm using EH17 Hurricane 1.5, and didn't suffer any kind of that lag.. maybe you can find other ROM, and trying to find which one suits you best?
and yes, maybe another solution is to check on your clockspeed/voltage..
I'm experiencing the same thing as op and I'm on froyo. Desperately waiting for Ginger to kick in to wipe everything and start fresh.

it's more than likely an app running in the background than the rom, but anything is possible with custom roms and the hardware inconsistencies of our phones. Some of the older GB leaks I had a similar issue with the wake lock lag, but any of the newer EC05, and the GB leaked roms I haven't had this issue unless there was a rogue app causing it.
That's a bit interesting, cause I have hardly anything running in the background. My memory usage is like 170MB, versus 225 when running a dev's ROM. What I'm running is the simple GB update; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLMlYuwTj6w and along with the EG22 modem.
Every time I've flashed some dev's ROM, the memory usage would be in the 220+.
I have noticed a 1 second lag when preforming a few tasks. Screen rotation and waking, for example. I only have the problem every once and a while so I don't mind waiting the 1 second.
been using cyanogen mod for a bit with the alpha and beta 1. Just switched to the beta 2 and everything is very laggy. Anyone else having this problem with the new beta2

Thought maybe did something wrong. Switched to Andromadus Audacity Beta 2 for now and its running okay. Thanks for the reply
As suggested by a user @ cm9betathread,
I flashed the tiamat 314 kernel.
To be more specific: I did a full wipe, flashed the cm9beta2, flashed the kernel, flashed the gapps and then set up my phone via titanium.
The battery drain is a tad high, altough that may very well be because my battery's 1.5 yrs old by now. Coming from cm7 (tested andromadus (laggy) and jibwich (okay)), I'd say its about 30% more battery drain using similar settings in everyday circumstances (than cm7).
The performance is very good with the kernel, in drawer or home screen close to zero lags and a snappy performance. I do experience some lags when the system seems to be under heavy load (3g @ ics browser, eg.), which sometimes leads to a complete freeze, forcing me to take out the battery. I don't know if that is because of the kernel or cm9, but I haven't had the time nor the patience to test that.
I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

I use a app called play on for YouTube Netflix and a lot of other video sites.. yea the camera fix seems to break playback on YouTube.. but I'm optimistic that those issues will be worked out since cm9 is still in development. What I love is that every feature u find in other Asop roms u can get apps that do that... so u can customize it better for your own personal taste and still have better stability!!!!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

CM7.2 couldn't figure out how to add my Google account. Also couldnt disable the camera shutter sound.
Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0
