Today I connected my phone which is running CM7 RC2 to my PC and mounted it as storage so I could remove pictures. I turned off USB storage and thought nothing of it.
But when I got a call later I realised my ringtone wasnt playing, it was silent.
I went into the sound settings, and under notiications or ringtones, I cant find any of my tones. Yet I can explore the SD fine and my apps transferred to SD work fine also. The system just cant find the mp3's anymore but they are there, I havent touched them in any way.
Any thoughts and theories?

the only thing i can think of is you didnt unmount your SD card properly i would recomend that you manualy extraxct the Micro SD card and place it back in and also from now on make sure you click unmount on the desktop client as well as the cell phones this could be a future way to prevent such problems from occuring.
I am unable to remove the SD without removing the batter. However, I tried it anyway and still the problem remains. The system just doesn't show my ringtones. Yet I can browse the SD card perfectly otherwise.
I'm at a loss what else to try since the phone has been perfect up until now.

well Sorry to say i had this problem with my g1 the only other option i can recomend is that you copy your most important files to your computer and then format the SD card and if that dosent work then sorry your going to have to buy a new one.
I just don't understand how mounting the SD card to get at my photos (which I have done many times in the past) has now rendered my SD card U/S.
Ok. I've used rom manager to format and partition the SD card and copied my stuff back. The problem remains. I've even tried to re-install CM7 RC2 (without wiping cache and data) and still it happens. I thought I would be clever and modify the cm7 rc2 zip file and add my ringtones as ogg manually that way. But they don't show up on the phone either. What should I do now?
try flashing another rom to see if it reads it could be a CM problem, Or go into setting/phone storge and click unmount then mount, if that fails then sorry man your going to have to buy a new sounds to me you currrupetd the SD crad from being able to be recognized.
I think there is more afoot here than previously thought.
Another problem I have is to do with images.
On my SD card there is 2 folders, Wallpapers and DCIM/Camera. In the camera folder there is 10 images which I previously took with the phone and 2 new ones. Yet when I open the gallery app, only the 2 ones I have recently taken appear. And my wallpaper folder is missing also.
furthermore, if I browse the SD card in Astro for example and try to open any of the images in the gallery, they just appear as blank images. But if I open them in the Astro image viewer, they appear perfectly.
Strange things are happening to this phone and Im not 100% sure its the SD card anymore.
How can I sort this out?
Using rom manager last night, I put on the CM7 RC2 again, this time I wiped data and cache and modified the CM7 zip beforehand to manually put my ringtones on. Now they appear. But finding songs/pictures/tones from the SD is not possible. Only if I manually browse for them.
Very frustrating.
Same thing happened here except I can't access any of my SD card.

have you tried flashing another rom to see if they read on it
I think I've made some progress.
Taking in previous advice given here, I copied my files off the SD card, formatted it and put SOME not all, of the files back. It seems to have fixed it. Because Im not the smartest person in the world, my slapdash approach to problem solving means I can't say for sure if formatting the SD card fixed it, or there was a dodgy file/folder which corrupted things. But now its working as it would.
However, its produced an odd side effect. Every time I connect my phone to my computer via usb, it will always pop up with the USB mass storage menu, where I can tap it to turn on usb storage. Even if the phone is locked and I connect it, it will unlock the phone with a serious of quick clicks and bring up the menu. While the menu is up, if I lock the screen, it will just unlock in front of my eyes. But if I hit home then lock it, its fine. Very odd.
Why has this started to happen all of a sudden?
Ever since I downloaded CM7 which was some months ago its only been using my sd card. It hasnt been a big deal until now since its damn near full. i cant for the life of me figure out how to get my apps and my pictures and downloads and just about everything to be on my phone storage and leave my sd card for specific things. is it because i downloaded cm7 to my sd card instead of internal storage?
please help, ive been stuck on nightly 145 since i cant download anymore(and ive deleted all of the old ones already) im very confused help me out.
thanks,
nick
By default, downloads and photos are stored on the SD card. Have you gone into the camera app's settings, for instance, and tried to change the save location? Also, in the CM settings menu (can't remember where exactly), you can change where apps get installed. I think "auto" is the default, and there are options for internal storage and SD card.
hey guys i have the custom rom paranoid android for my device but there seems to b a bug and i want to fix it but idk how some apps cant pick up my exsdcard for example the camera app saves pictures to internal and apollo and google play doesn't search my music and its bugging me there was an update in which i tought it will fix the problem but no its still there how can i fix this help me plzzzzzz. i have use media rescaner and all those apps one that worked for me was ics binder but my phone ran out of batery and when i rebooted the problem started happening again please help me.
I'm having the same problem as can't save camera photos to the external SD card. There is a setting in the camera app that says "store" not sure what it means but it doesn't seem to change anything.
One other thing I would like to confirm is under system settings is the "storage" setting in the prior ICS version you could format the external SD Card. Here format SD Card formats the internal SD Card. Can you format the external SD Card from settings? Not what I was expecting, guess that's why I backed everything up.
I'm running Paranoid 4.1.2 and it is fantastic and fast. I was on ICS previously and had these settings before.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but either way Paranoid is awesome!
Thanks for your advice.
Save camera pics to external Sd card
I guess tagging onto 2 week old thread with no responses was not the best idea
Looks like saving camera pics to external sd card is not an option. I even downloaded
Camera from ver. 4.2, same thing. Only solution I can make work is use a different camera app
than google's.
Still not sure why 4.1.2 does not have an option to format the external sd card just the internal.
Still like Paranoid, seems very stable.
Just rooted my Galaxy S3 and flashed Cm10 4.2.2
I'm going crazy trying to get my files to automatically store to my SD card. For example when I take a picture the files go straight to my external memory or when I save a attachment picture it goes straight to my external download folder. I dont mind my apps saving to the external memory. Before I rooted and flashed my phone, when it was still all stock, my videos pictures and my music would all save to my SD card automatically. The only things that used to save external was apps which I don't mind. I tried looking threw the cameras setting to see if maybe theirs a option that let's you choose between external or internal saving. But their nothing their. I tried going into storage under settings to maybe select my default storage and nothing their either. I know you can copy the files to the SD card with es file explorer but that's too much of a hassle to be doing it every time i download music or after taking pictures or videos. Im kind of stuck on this one. Any help would be apreciated. Other than that I love CM10

when your in the camera and hit settings in the top right, scroll to the bottom should say 'Storage' to save to memory card or phone? *I thought* ofcourse thats TW ur on CM so AOSP not sure if its the same
The last time is used AOSP based roms those dont support external storage of pics.
With Dropbox, you get 50gb for 2 years if you have a S3. If don't want to get your internal sd going full after the pics are uploaded, delete them.

Finally just updated to the latest CM11 snapshot from 10.2 and can't find the option to save photos to the external SD from the camera app. Please tell me there is someway I can do this.
Thanks.
Same problem
I am interested for this fonction.
Seems with each iteration of Cyanogenmod they have to add the function of save to SD card since stock google normally doesn't have phones that allow expandable memory. It'll take awhile but Cyanogenmod will definitely get the save to SD function within a few updates, happened with 10.2 as well and it took about 10 nightlies before it appeared in my phone.
