Good morning,
I know that the issur have been treated many times in the forum, but I hope that I can get the answer of an expert for my case.
I'm trying to sim-unlock a HTC Desire smartphone (locked to the french operator bouygue telecom). I've tried to use the sim unlock utility, explaned in one of the forum's threads, the phone restarts but the sim still unlocked.
My question is: flashing a new stock radio would solve my issue? I'm ready to do some advanced manipulations to resolve this issue, but needs more help to find the way to do it.
Thanks folks.
Should have posted in the utility thread as opposed to here - not as many people will look at it

I've seen many members succeed using the utility thread, but that wasn't my case, so I wanted to know if flashing a new radio would resolve the problem.
Have you tried this? No further than yesterday I unlocked my Desire from Vodafone network. Just download the iso, burn it to a cd, boot your computer from it, restart your phone in hboot (power and volume down) then connect it to the pc - wait for a few seconds and voila! your phone is unlocked.

Hi every one, my phone model is HTC Hermes 8525 locked to Att. Now it is in original box with Windows Mobile 5. I want to unlock it first. I have read articles on this BBS and aware that if I want to do future Rom flashing things I might need both SIM and CID unlocked. At same time I found several unlock code provider on Ebay.com. Now the questions come up.
1) Is Unlock code got via Ebay only for SIM unlock, or it is for both?
2) Is there any risk for such kind of unlock code for my phone? What's the worst outcome for using unlocker software downloaded here?
3) If I don't unlock my CID, can I still upgrade my phone with WM6? What specific ROM of WM6 shall I use?
4) Any other suggestion is welcomed, Ad's also.
Thanks a head

Hi and welcome to xda-developers forum!
1) I think this "unlock code" will provide you an ability to disable/re-enable SIM Lock/Operator Lock, not CID Lock (as it's platform specific and required to flash unofficial ROMs)
2) The worst is device will become brick. But it could occur only if you download and flash wrong ROM.
3) No, if it's unofficial. If HTC provided a WM6 update to Hermes (I don't remember), it could be flashed.
Good luck

i just got that phone, i found a guy on youtube for the sim unlock, it worked for my phone , now it runs a tmobile sim card ya. not sure what cid a nd all that is, on youtube most people dont give details on how to get things done but there is the one guy for the sim. next i upgraded to wm6 using a google search and deciphering through all the bull****, then i used xda for wm6.1. it all worked and i dont know **** so u should be fine, if you know how to unzip and do things with files and alwas look for exe. extentsion, that ones usually money, im trying to upgrade to 6.5 but im getting errors, first time im having propblems, so let me know anybody, about that. good luck
What phone do you have?
Just had system update notifier, so I installed it (am now on build no: 1.21.405.2 CL174215) and am unable to start wi-fi or bluetooth?
Could it be anything to do with this being an orange handset that I have de-branded?
Same problem after update, but bluetooths works, but get messege unable to start WIFI
anyideas ?
I've got this issue too. Debranded T-Mobile device.
hi everyone !
same problem for me, french Desire Orange unbranded ...
only WiFi does not work. Bluetooth seems ok.
hi all, I think we all are in the same boat, it appeared that only debranded phones are affected. mine debranded T-Mobile as well. damn, I was so happy when I saw an OTA update at the first time. who could expect it will kill my wi-fi. however, I've seen guys on another forum that the problem is solved if you reload the full ROM from the beginning, even 1.21 works great. I've just downloaded one from this thread, going to install now and see. the problem is that you have to back up everything because it will kill all data on your phone. personally I'm not going to backup as there's not much to loose there for me and I wish to have a very clean install. cheers!
Same problem here with french Orange de-branded and not rooted ....
I'm going to try a radio upgrade, it could handle the problem, but it seems that newest radios sim lock Orange phones
Same problem with my debranded T-Mobile Desire. Can't flash the original RUU I found here in this forum. My desire starts and hangs at the black screen showing the HTC Logo but did not continue flashing the rom. By unplugging the USB Cable the bootloader appears and show 0.75. I thought it must show 0.80 ? Any ideas how to flash the rom that brings back my WLAN?
For anyone experiencing Wi-Fi problems, check out this thread:

I helped another member to get his Wi-Fi connection working after he had upgraded to the latest modified Kernel version by Richard Trip.
Note: Your phone will need to be rooted to apply the kernel flash zip file in recovery mode.
Best Regards,
Mas.
well I'm back up and running but only after buying an unlock code from htccode (Thanks Sudarshan)
Couldn't see a way round it as I'm not rooted but I suppose, although the handset is branded, it's now unlocked and running htc software instead of that sodding orange messed up stuff!
OK I solved the problem with the broken WiFi Connection.
I replaced the ROM with one posted here in this forum.
I just flashed it and after the reboot, i have had the new ROM with a working WiFi Connection.
There is a strange thing that I revognized during the procedure. The ROM with the broken WiFi Link showed me a bootloader version of 0.75, after the flash I got 0.80.
I would be interested if some users have the 0.75 bootloader too even after the update.
Hope I could help some of you guys still having the problem.
Greetz Blackbird
Flash one of the kernels (boot.img) and bcm439.ko. Richard Trip is the only one that has them packaged, so download his and flash via recovery. make sure your wifi is off first.

Have now updated using the GoldCard methed, now the WiFi working Fine, but now have another problem, the Phone is now saying please enter "Sim Network Unlock PIN"
HELP !!!!
You've to unlock your phone. Go to "htcsimunlock.com", enter your phone modell and your IMEI No. You'll get the requested unlock code but you've to pay for.
Made the same procedure yesterday and it worked fine without unlocking the device. Maybe it's because it won't be nessessary in germany, I don't know.

Hi
Did you need to pay Orange to get the unlock code? I'm in the same position you were in. Unbranded HTC Desire from Orange.
Thanks
HI all, first of all thanks to everyone because the posts on this website have been helpful to a new HTC Desire owner!
Unfortunately I have come across a problem that most people experience when replacing the ROM on their Orange Desires.
I created a gold card fine.
I downloaded and installed this file: RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe which I felt was almost too easy as my Desire rebooted and worked straight away with a non Orange-branded ROM which I loved.
Then a prompt to download an over-the-air upgrade came up which I accepted.
After the install and reboot my phone was locked which I expected.
I went to HTCSimUnlock as I wanted the phone unlocked anyway and entered my IMEI etc and they refunded and replied to say code not found.
I sent the same code to an eBay company - exactly the same thing, I sent it to another eBay company - code not found.
I thought maybe I'd stupidly typed the IMEI wrong but I triple checked it and it was 100% correct.
I am now a bit worried about what to do to fix this and would be extremely greatful if someone could give me a hand sorting it out.
Thanks in advance,
RandomOtter
Have you spoke to orange and asked them to unlock the phone (i think it costs £20)? They should be able to unlock it, if they cant i suggest you complain to them as any other network will say speak to your phone provider.
Hi there, thanks for your suggestion. I just called Orange who said it will take 15 days for it to come through as they need to send the request to the phone manufacturer! I can't really wait 15 days as my other contract is set to cancel in just under a week so I will not be able to make or receive calls on either number.
Are there any other suggestions?
Is there any reason those unlock companies would not have been able to find my code?
You need to root it and downgrade your radio...
Edit: I'll explain in a bit more detail. Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11 is the baseband (radio) you will see in the about phone menu on your phone. On Orange handsets if you upgrade away from this baseband, it sim locks the phone.
So instead of paying for an unlock code, all you need to do is follow the guide to root the handset then download and install the radio listed in the development section.

Thanks for the reply.
In the root guide it says "for bootloader version..." how do I find out my bootloader version?
Aplogies, I started up with the back button pressed and found out it is version 0.80.
How can I make a gold card if the device isn't actually booting up fully? I just get:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found

Did they ask you for a fee to provide the unlock code??
As far as I know, when trying to sim-unlock a device with a network provided sim-unlock code it shoudn't matter that I have a custom rom (Oxygen RC4). However, this is what happens:
I insert my non-orange sim card and boot up, when android boots up it firstly asks for my pin, I enter it, then it asks for a sim-unlock code and I enter that as well and then get a 'Successful' message. However, in the status bar I get a sim card icon with an exclamation mark inside it and have no signal. Also when I reboot the phone it once again asks for a sim-unlock code.
I've already contacted orange and they've said they'll contact me (which they havent) and i'm sure the conversation will end when I tell them that i've rooted the phone and have a custom rom installed, as my warranty is probably void now. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm hoping to avoid installing an official ruu to get around this as this will mean ill have to s-off and change partition tables again and I can't be arsed!
from what i know the lock signature in phone is written in eeprom. i don't know if this phones have an eeprom. so i am thinking that you will need an RUU cause when you play with permanent memory by s-offing and changing partitions it can't be permanently recorded.
again this can be totally BS cause i only know this from proprietary phones.

Thats what im afraid of too. I'm still waiting for a call from orange so we'll see what happens filaraki
Ok aderfe, just let us know how it rolled.
Sent from my LeeDroided Desire HD
I'll be interested to see what happens as im in the exact same situation. Orange never got back to me either. I got the unlock code as I'd read it was required for flashing a new radio however its never been a prob. It would be nice to unlock the phone though especially after I paid £20 for the code!

To tell you the truth im not expecting much from the orange team. From past experience technical call-backs of this nature usually involve a technically-incompetent employee following tree-diagrams to answer your query and in most cases not being able to. If I dont get a solution from them ill try flashing an original RUU and unlocking and let you guys know what happens
Orange never phoned me so I phoned them. Their technical team (which apparently does not deal with customers directly) left a note on my account asking me to provide my orange rom version so I told them that I have flashed a custom rom and request a link to an official orange ruu, will be interesting to see what they have to say! will keep you posted on what happens
Hello,
I bought a second hand HOX last week. It was sold to me as unlocked from operator SFR (Vodaphone France, or CID VODAP203).
I bought an unlocking code from an internet shop, tried it, didn't work... I went into a shop specialized in unlocking phones they could not make it provider free...
So I went on to this forum. Plenty of nice things, and as I already rooted an Android tablet from TOSHIBA (FOLIO100), I tried a few things.
It appears that my phone is rooted. When I boot in bootloader it says "UNLOCKED", and it is also S-OFF!!! I am able to change the CID as much as I want, and I have set it to "11111111". As such I was told on a french forum that any SIM Card from any provider should work, but it doesn't...
I have been able to install Jelly Bean from one of the ROM developpers, thinking (and this is where I am a noob) that I will clear the part of the system that tells it is locked to one provider... Of course it didn't do anything more, or different than telling me it doesn't work on any provider.
I went back to stock from Vodaphone France, and came to you in order to get some instructions or link to have on working on another network than the vodaphone one...
Thanks in advance for your help,
Alain
First off, it's great you have an S-OFF handset. You are lucky about that.:good:
On the other hand, unlocking bootloader doesn't have anything to do with SIM locks. So, whatever you did (as you experienced it yourself) doesn't work.
I suggest you search over here, because I know for sure there is a way to unlock SIM lock on HOX. I didn't have to do it, as mine was already unlocked (or SIM free, I can't tell now).
Don't worry, you'll find the way, just be patient.
A bientot!
Yeah everyone told me it was great to have it S-OFF, although I don't know what it can do for me... I guess this would be great for developpers ?
I hope I won't have to go through several unlock code providers...
S-OFF is giving you advantage in being able to flash any ROM, any RUU, any HBOOT, any radio... Good not only for developers.
Back to topic - I suggest you visit some mobile phone service, and pay ONLY after they finish the work. I guess there are whole lot of frauds online,, that would take you money for the "unlock code", and not care if it doesn't work.
I repeat, be patient, and keep searching. Here's what I found (you can do the same search yourself):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654075
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25341694&postcount=71
it cost me a whole £2.79 to get mine unlocked.
I bought the code from ebay inserted an un supported sim and entered the code when asked. That's the main reason actually why I've stuck with HTC they are so easy to un lock

Mate, nowadays most phones are unlocked through pw.... code. Usually, you get it for specific handset (IMEI and operator), and just type it in as you did.
BTW, Samsung Galaxy SIII is even easier to unlock - by an apk from Google Play Store.
Hello,
I went through one of Unlock Code providers that [email protected]|-|oR provided me through his links...
I had the exact same unlock code as the one I got in France... that doesn't work. But the guys were really professional, in reimbursing my money as they could not unlock my phone.
The strangest thing is that they asked me if the phone is rooted, and said that this is why I cannot SIM Unlock, because it is rooted... I reverted by to stock, and re-locked the phone but the result is still the same, it stays stuck to SFR...
I hope a solution will come out in the form of an application such as the one for Galaxy III, it looks so easy to do.
Have a good evening,
Alain
Hi my phone was branded by orange and obviously had a simlock what did with my hox and many others before is:root the phone ,get recovery, then flash custom rom and all that branded garbage with simlock is gone.I've done it before with galaxy S,S2,now with my hox. Don't never ever buy any codes online.

Hello,
I already did that, (root, flash customer ROM), but simlock is still here... only thing I didn't change is recovery, but it is 5.8.xxx (aka I think it is the latest).
Can you guide me rapidly in return ?
Al1
SIM unlock is totally separate from rooting.
