[Q] No stock backup image... suggestions please

I am new to the Android development scene (appro 6 months now) and when I first rooted, I neglected to backup my stock ROM. I'm much more comfortable now, but am still confused about a few things. I'd like to have a stock image to rely on if something goes wrong or I need to call for service. Should I unroot and use a RUU or an odex ROM? Do I really even need to unroot? Is it necessary to update my HBOOT image as well? I know this is a lot of questions, but I remember from my days of DSS testing that I wish I had a backup of my original CAM! Is it too late?
I was a little nervous to use the 'unrevoked-forever-s-on'. I can't re-root?
I don't recall which method I used to root. I think toasted. Does it matter?
Currently I have multiple ROMS. Primarily I use Cyanogen, Warm2.2, or Ava. I have 0.76 hboot, and ROM manager premium... I use whichever recovery is necessary.
Suggestions?
Also, how can I be sure which RUU or ROM to use as stock. I am worried that there were updates that blocked rooting with some methods. How do I know which RUU will be the best bet? I remember having to wait for updates to come down from the satellite stream. Does it matter if I use an older RUU then wait for updates, or just use a recent stock posting?
If you need to take your evo in for servicing, its recommended to unroot, for a few reasons. Also, if you unroot, you'd need to run an ruu appropriate to your hboot version. That will send you back to completely stock, so no need to flash a stock rom after that, then you can simply run an OTA update, then take it in.
And yes, if you run an old/incorrect ruu, you'll just get errors.
Thanks! and I clicked thanks too
my hboot is 0.76. what RUU is compatible with that? (I've checked the ROM sticky and there is none) should i just pick most recent RUU and flash the corresponding hboot, then flash that RUU? When I looked at the most recent RUU posting, it says DO NOT FLASH! YOU WILL LOSE ROOT! Do they mean permanently?
I gotta run! I got kids! Thanks again... be back tonight!

You lose root, it returns you back to stock, but you can re-root as well.
Thanks. I guess I am over-thinking this...

Is ur phone s-off? You should be able to flash roms from froyo to gb as long as your s-off and have CWM installed.
Sent from my Incredible 2

If you did the OTA Gingerbread from Verizon then you are pretty much stuck with it. You can still get s-off if you get the XTC clip. And you could have got s-off yesterday since AlphaRev released the windows download yesterday. You can be the guinea pig and try it now to see if AlphaRev does work with the Gingerbread update. Let us know if you do and it does.
And what is so wrong with the update that you actually want to go back to froyo? If it is the bloat and you were going to root, then why did you blow off the warning not to update?
Anyway way you choose, good luck!
I tried alpharev x and it didn't work but I saw that it didn't work for others on the post for windows users. Plus my hboot is still the .97 or what ever the prerequisite is. So shouldn't it still work? And I just want sense 3.0 sooo bad lol. I did it to get rid of the massive bugs like the back button not working and the keyboard u

What RUU do I use?

I've got a desire that i'm trying to get s-off, used alpharev but it fails, looking into it turns out i need to be using a stock RUU, however i have no idea which one or where to get it from can anyone help me out please? im on Orange Uk, hboot 0.93, and radio 5.17.05.23. the RUU updater wont update me because im on version 1.29 and its trying to update to 1.21.
Can someone please point me in the right direction please?
Thanks Dave

Help with RUUing my old inc

I'm not to sure what to do and I can't find a post in our forums unless I missed it.
Trying to ruu to 2.3.4
I'm running cm7.2 if that helps with the .92 hboot
Which type of ruu are you trying to do, an exe ruu with a program run on a pc with the phone connected, or a PB31IMG.zip flashed thru hboot?
right now I am set up to do the exe version using the stuff I got off pvillecomps site...
is the hboot version just downgrading the rom to like 2.3.x<7 the running updae in hboot?
Never done the exe method, trusting more in HBOOT one. If you crack it open, it should bring you back to stock for radio, splash, rom, recovery. If you choose that method, always safer to double check.
Okay I'll do it that way. DLing it now. Got my rezound setup today so I'm moving on and probably selling my Inc on swappa. Just wanna get it back to stock beforehand.

[Q] Big problem. UNLOCKED. HBOOT 1.03.0003. S-ON. cyanogenmod 4.0.4

Hi everyone, i've got a big trouble. A friend need to restore his HTC Desire to stock, just as factory, the details are these:
UNLOCKED
SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.03.0003
It got installed cyanogenmod 4.0.4, and it's not root.
The question is... (after trying lots and lots of things...) how can i do it?
This is very very difficult for me, i really don't know where to start.
Thanks a lot!
Cyanogenmod 4.0.4? I don't think such a thing exists.
Anyhow, you need to flash a RUU to go back to stock. Does the 2.3 RUU work? Try it.
Hi!, RUU does not work, but i will change ID with RIFF so i can use wuropean RUU, because this version have not RUU.
