I'm looking for a FM transmitter for my evo to transmit music in my car. Anyone have any suggestions?
I use a Satechi Soundfly Bluetooth to FM Transmitter - works great ($59.99 from Amazon). I tried several cheaper versions from Ebay that never worked - this one works perfectly.
I have the Motorola T505 and a lot of people recommend it...but I don't...there is a lot of static no matter what radio station I try to tune it to. You can't tune it to a specific station, you can only tune it to the stations the device thinks are good.
So I say stay away from the T505 .

The built-in charging port is a nice touch.
It can also connect to your stereo with an auxiliary cable but I suppose since you didn't mention that, your car doesn't have one.

Seems pretty spiffy. I do not have an aux port in my car so I am thinking about trying this thing out as well. If I end up doing it I will post back my findings.
fyi guys none of those fm modulators sound good they are all crap. ive used tons of em. You could do a few things though, one you could always buy a new deck they r cheap and most of em have bluetooth and/or aux. two, i dont know what kind of deck you have but they make aux input jacks that can be integrated into your stock deck for like 79 dollars i had one in my honda that worked like a champ and was really easy to wire up. lastly go for the gusto and not only get an aux input but make your stock deck sound like a nice aftermarket deck give your self both high(wires) and low(rca) outputs(so you can expand your system with amps when u want) the unit costs about 140 and if your decent at wiring its a lot of wires but not to daunting if you take your time and do it step by step. some stock stereo will require installation though.
Right now I am trying the Jabra Cruiser. So far seems to work pretty good for the price. Right now changing out the radio in my car isn't an option. Would like to stay with stock radio for now.

It looks awfully bulky.
The other downside with the tune link device is that you can't answer a phone call through the car speakers. The jabra cruiser and the Motorola t505 have built in mics and a pickup / drop call button so u can make or answer a phone call through the device.

Did you know the chip in the EVO that handles receiving FM is also capable of transmitting FM? They just didn't build the functionality in unfortunately.
So far the cruiser works great. I i drive 25 miles to work and cant tell a difference between it and FM. No static , excellent audio. Well worth the $30 i spent.
I don't know if you've got AUX in on your current deck, but you could use the Nokia BH-214 as a quasi-bluetooth/fm transmitter, but at that point, I don't see why you wouldn't just plug straight into your deck from the phone. I love my BH-214 outside though, it's loud too. See my review on it.
I use BT to my 7" touchscreen deck that works great too, much louder than my USB connection.

Best FM transmitter I've ever used and the bluetooth works great. Mics are strong and have excellent noise cancellation.

My car doesn't have a tape player or an aux plug, so the only way to play music in my car is through a transmitter. Currently I have one for my iPod but I'd like to switch over to using it for my phone instead. Does anyone use one of these that can recommend a good one?
If im not mistaken but the usb ports on the evo have no audio going to it.

i did a quick google search they are a ton of them that plug into the audio jack of the evo.

Option 1 gives you more freedom to be wireless and mobile. But you have to keep it charged.
Option 2 means setting your phone somewhere is going to be awkward unless you have a windshield mount, in which case you're going to have 2 wires dangling off your phone/windshield while you drive. Pick your lesser of two evils, until someone releases an App that lets you transmit music straight to an FM signal from your phone itself (no 3rd party hardware required).
Last I read earlier this week...there is still discussion about whether it really is a transmitter. Then if it is...it is all broadcom and not open source drivers.

I already had the fm transmitter from my iphone, so all i needed was a cheap little adapter. All it does is convert the ipod connecter to a 3.5 jack.

I bought that exact one from Target... and returned it the next day. Seems like EVERYTHING interferes, it doesn't let you go under FM88.1, the bass is horrifically BAD, and I get some really crappy signal distortion if my phone is charging while this is plugged in (WTF??)
What I ended up going with is a module that plugs into my XM receiver and gives me a 3.5mm TRS plug, which can either be plugged into my Zune or my phone (or anything...) without having to transmit that signal to a FM station... it's basically straight into the head unit. No more bass issues at all.
I know it isn't what the OP was looking for, but I was looking for something along the same path. I purchased a kit to add RCA inputs to my stock '03 cobra stereo and that worked wonderfully. I had a 3.5mm to rca cable plugged into it so I could listen to Pandora. I was reading about Bluetooth A2DP and was looking for a A2DP to RCA convertor. Found a nice little gem, the Motorola T605 hands free with A2DP. I'm going to order it next month and install it.

They are all pretty much the same. It's going over FM so sound quality won't be as good as it can be. Any ones that I used with past phones were the same quality (audio wise) whether it was a $10 ebay brand or a $50 Belkin.

Yes, I would like to know this as well, since I do not have an AUX plug in my deck.
Does anyone have any exprerience with a specific dock that has an FM transmitter and powers the phone, as well?
The sweet spot would be bluetooth streaming audio like Ford does with Sync, but such systems aren't nearly as available as they need to be for someone without that installed :/

I have a friend who is very good with cars and he told me he'd be able to install an aux input into my car for whatever the part costs me off ebay. I think I may just go with this option.

Going that way will get you much better audio quality than an FM transmitter will.
If you're stuck with using an FM transmitter, then the best one you can get is the Scoshe (I think that's how you spell it) *WIRED* FM transmitter from Wal-Mart. It runs off a 12v line (pull out your car stereo and cram or splice the wires into the 12v input and the ground), then it actually plugs into the back of your stereo, and your antenna plugs into the unit. When you flip the switch, it basically kills your antenna, so you can't get any interference at all. It is the absolute best FM transmitter you can get (as far as I'm concerned).
just get those mp3 player to tape-deck things, if you still have a tape deck in your car. it will be way better quality than FM transmitters.

I've seen these on crutchfield but I think if you're going to go through all the trouble why not just jut a new head unit in that has AUX? If you MUST go FM I'd do it this way but honestly it's as much work as a new head unit which would give you better sound quality than your stock stereo anyway.
Actually, I found the cheaper "ebay brands" to be better than the expensive brands. I had a run where I was buying new ones about every two months to use in my work cars, and the best ones were the ebay 7 dollar ones from Hong Kong. I have no verifiable proof of such, but this is my opinion which it seemed the OP asked for. Make sure you get one that has selectable bands though the entire fm range.

After about a week with this transmitter, I can say that I'd recommend it, for the $ it's fantastic. I've tried $75-100 ones from Best Buy & returned them within a day. This transmitter works much better than any of those.

Honestly I just use the jabra cruiser. It has great battery life and has a built in fm transmitter. It work perfectly for me and I have very little interference with it. I use it to stream music on a 4 hour drive I make once a month and with the HTC car dock my setup couldnt be any better, full gps navigation via car speakers and live streaming radio thanks to tunein radio pro.

So here's my problem.. I've got an aux port in my personal car which works great for my commute to and from work but once I'm in my work car I lose that ability..
I've purchased a cheap FM transmitter from ebay but there's a lot of static.. anyone have a suggestion for a good transmitter that's not ridiculously priced?

Best bang for your buck is a device that uses bluetooth to grab the music and then has an FM transmitter in it... like the blackberry VM-605 .. that way you can use it in your house too.

yep, which is almost pointless (for this topic) because aux ports are in a lot more head units than bluetooth
i was able to get away with a cheap one from walmart ~$20 and it worked great for me even used it on a trip that i was in the back and phone was 10-15 feet away from the antenna and i still had very little static.
Get a blackberry Bluetooth gateway. It plugs in to your aux port and connects to your device via Bluetooth. I use one with my stereo and used to use one in the car until I upgraded the car to a Bluetooth ready system. It will connect to any Bluetooth device that supports a2dp.

I went to Wal-Mart and in the Ipod/headphones section found a good FM transmitter by Griffin. It plugs into the cig port for power and then plugs into your phones Headphone jack. a little time playing with different stations and you can find one that works real good and is nice and clear.

this should be exactly what your looking for, its still a fm transmitter but besides bluetooth or aux you have no choice but to use fm transmitter, the reviews on that looks great (saw on amazon)
The best ones to get are the ones from crap storeslike big lots and etc. The cheaper the better for some reason. You have to remember that truck bridges and heavy metal objects will obstruct it. I personal have an M gear. For it from big lots for $4.99. But in the end they all suck.
I picked up a motorola roadster for a steal at a verizon store, was about 50 bucks there (they kind of screwed up a lot and tried to charge me about 300 dollars more on one bill, raised hell got credits for accesories) and the thing actually works pretty well. There are a few minor issues with it, but those are easily solved and the sound quality is actually surprisingly good over FM.
Now there is the problem with degradation of sound when broadcasted over bluetooth, then over FM, but unless you are an audiophile and have high end speakers in your car (and i'm assuming you aren't because you were asking for an fm transmitter) then I doubt you could really tell the difference.
Another handy dandy feature of this device is that it searches for OPEN fm channels so you aren't manually tuning one frequency by one and instead looking for a frequency you can actually break through.

The only problems I have with this unit is sometimes the BT disconnects for a second or so then it reconnects, but that only happens like once a week. Also sometimes coming out of sleep mode it won't kick on the FM transmitter. This is fixed by unplugging, turning off, waiting a few seconds then turning the device back on again. Other than that, this would seem to be the perfect solution to your problem.
I have also heard great things about the GOGroove Flexsmart X2, but have not tried it out so I cannot give an honest review of it.

I tried the flexgroove it worked great with Bluetooth for the exception of no bass output. Speaking on it was not great but that's just my cars power outlet location making it to far for people to hear me. My brother got a jensen kit from amazon with steering wheel controls and separate lcd to see songs,calls and phone book that one worked great the Mic was external.

I don't remember which one I bought, but I got it at Wal-Mart a few years ago and it works perfect. You don't have to worry about traveling through areas where the FM stations change, and you don't lose any quality by transmitting over the FM signal.

If you googled it and you don't see any then probably not. Maybe the manufactures don't think android is worth investing in, the same reason there are way more variety of cases for iPhone than android. Or maybe because there are so many different android phone manufacturers with their own android framework like TW for example. Just guessing though...

Search on ebay, there are a lot of fm transmiters. But none works with the Micro USB because very few phones have audio out in the micro usb (its only 5 pins).
i have tried 2 bluetooth and fm transmiter for iphone and 3 for android and dont have good sound while transmit for blueetooh, have lost of quality. Its better for wire.

I don't know you situation, but cassette adapter is not an option to you? Personally I'm using one to connect my phone and my car stereo. It works pretty well, although the 4th adapter worked with my head unit.

It´s a BT handsfree wich also have an FM transmitter. I´ve buyed one on amazon a few months ago, for less than half the price served on the official website.
You can pair the phone through BT and then (optionally) send the audio to your FM radio car. Also you can choose in your phone wich audio route (calls, media or both).
Good design and audio quality is good in my opinion. Just one complaint: depending on the city/zone you live, FM frequencies may be oversaturated and this can make noise or static interferences.

It has gotten much better. I use it in my car regularly with an aftermarket head unit that supports the latest Bluetooth technology. I run speakers and an amp with a sub. I also have an aux cable going to my glove box. For me the difference isn't great enough because I use the Bluetooth and never use the aux cable.

I actually use a bluetooth dongle which I connect to my cassette adapter in the car. Very cheap way of getting bluetooth music. The audio is decent as well.
throw Viper4Android on there and it's perfect. If you don't root, it'll still be just fine.
Bluetooth is the pits I've speakers that are BT or hard wire and there is a world of difference. The speakers are Bose so it's not quality

I have a stereo which sends audio and video over HDMI via a slimport adapter. The later version can also do A2DP audio over bluetooth to be connection free.
It also uses the phone's navigation software, so its never out of date. If you have a rooted N5 then you can basically display your phone and all its functionality through the HU. Have a look at the Pioneer AppRadio's and ARUnchained app on here.
I have a Bluetooth FM transmitter and it works quite well. Plugs into the cigarette outlet and has a USB port for charging. The sound quality is good. Beats listening to FM radio that's for sure. I got it on amazon for around $30 if I remember correctly.

I put a clarion double din unit with Bluetooth, in my wife's car. What it lacks in audio quality(it doesn't lack much) it makes up for with the fact that I don't have an extra cable running to the phone/head unit. It really nice to get in and have the two devices automatically link up.
I am obsessive compulsive over tangled cables, or just cables in general so I also enjoy not having to remove plastics from the dash to run a aux cable in a clean manner.
Ford Sync user. I love SOKP ROM for sound. I back down the volume two steps from full on my phone and sound is just as good as any other source.

i have an alpine ute 42bt bluetooth head unit going to 2 6.5 inch alpine sps 610 mids and an 800 watt amp going to two old alpine type e subs. its not the best setup ever, but i cannot hear any difference between using bluetooth and the aux on mine when i have everything dialed in on the head unit and in viperfx
I use a converter in my room. It worked great , and was cheap. It now doesn't work unless you're really close to it. I just bought a more expensive one. I'm hoping that works good. Either way I like using it.

G1 has it right. If you tried in the last couple generations of bluetooth stereos it was pretty mediocre with lots of drop outs. But, personally the stuff from the last couple years is great. And the convenience on new phones that have good enough battery that you can go zero cables for short/medium drives is awesome.

I'm thinking about to upgrade my old car Stereo with an ONLY Bluetooth receiver, I mean that I want to throw away the entire old head unit and add a Bluetooth receiver that I could plug direct to the ISO 10487 connector. Did someone know a product like this one I'm searching for?

I have a JVC head unit, and I listen to music, podcasts, and navigation through Bluetooth. It's not the best unit either. I've tried it with 4.4, 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 stock, and locked, and as well with unlocked and rooted. With and without ViPER4Android it still sounds good! No distortion, no dropped signal.
Bluetooth streaming is the way to go IMO.

I don't have a bluetooth enables stereo in my car but I have an aux input. I bought one of these, plugged it into the aux port and connected it to my phone via bluetooth. The sound is actually really nice.

Thanks, but both solutions (car head unit and bluetooth receiver with aux connection) are not what I'm looking for, what I'm looking for is a bluetooth receiver that could be connected directly to the ISO cables of the car, so I could throw away my old car head unit.

I get what you are wanting now. Just today, the same thought popped into my mind because my car stereo is having issues. I thought of bypassing my stereo all together and hooking up that bluetooth adapter directly into the system. But I'm not a stereo guy and havent looked at the connections in my car yet.

Yep, what I would do i bypassing the stereo completely. I have all what I need on my Nexus 5, without the Car Head Unit I should no more fear thief and the internal look of the auto will be more cleaner.

You can probably get it much cheaper from amazon. I have it powered from the USB port on my stereo and I hide it behind the stereo.
