One thing I would like to find out is if the scandinavian DZ has the same ROM as rest of Europe? Since the keyboard layout is different.

I made a thread on unrooting in Q&A using gfree's -s on function. Only works if s-off-ed using gfree though.

rooting my G2 and downgrading

okay so i've been trying to read as much as i can it is a lil confusing at first but here is the specs on my G2:
Android Version:
2.2
Baseband version
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel version:
2.6.32.17-g9ab3677
[email protected]#1
Build Number
1.22.531.8 CL277427
(what do all these numbers mean lol i see them in all the roms)
now i want to permaroot using the gfree method that i found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
but according to this page my phone needs to be downgraded, am I correct
"gfree is known not to work for radio firmwares with higher versions then 26.03.02.xx
The reason for this is that HTC patched the hole that allowed scotty2 to power cycle the emmc chip to drop its write protection.
So if you installed a radio version with a higher version number the downgrade the radio firmware before using gfree.
gfree is also known not to work on the HTC 1.72 ROM version. If you have radio S-OFF then you can downgrade to an earlier version where it works. If you do not have radio S-OFF then you cannot downgrade.
gfree uses a dynamic in-memory patch of the kernel to remove the kernel's write protection of the radio settings partition"

so if i have to downgrade before i can permaroot which is the best ROM for me to downgrade to. I don't quite understand the CY roms etc and what all the characters mean. and then which rom do i upgrade to i would like better reception so i believe i should change the radio?
any help would be appreciated be nice im very new
thanks
No, you don't need to downgrade. But you've posted in the wrong forum though, this should be in the Q&A section

thanks!! if a mod could move this to the appropriate forum it would be appreciated. So i can go ahead with using gFree? and how do i decide which rom to flash lol CM or Virtuous etc?
i appreciate all the help
Totally up to you what rom you like the most:
Cm: stock android with maaaany enhancements
Enomtether: pretty much stock
Virtuous: if you want sense this is the rom to run.
So just try them all out. With clockwork it is easy to switch and test them out gl!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
After you have root and S-OFF, make sure you do a (nandroid) backup through ROM Manager/Clockwork *before* you flash any other ROMs. Then you can easily go back to where you were.
P.S. Feel free to start a new thread in Q&A asking about what all the version numbers mean etc.
thanks guys i am gonna use gfree to permroot and i have already downloaded rom manager i will back up first and foremost

[Q] New to Android - Question about ROM's - Help a newbie!

Hi All,
I have finally after a couple of years decided to move away from the Apple iPhone and buy an Android handset. As such I bought the Desire HD which I absolutely love however I wanted to debrand it using the latest software.
What I did was use the Goldcard technique to Downgrade my phone. I did this succesfully and debranded my phone, however what I realised was that I am now running a older (debranded) software.
Can anyone please assist me by providing with me some steps so that I can flash my phone again with the latest stock HTC Desire HD rom (debranded - is there a link?) or a very stable new ROM? I wouldnt mind version 2.3 if its available... I'm with Vodafone Australia and this is a Vodafone handset.
I have been told that the Goldcard method isn't the best way to do it? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Please excuse my questions as I am very new and not very good with Linux. I am very technically minded so I can pick things up quickly but I need some guidance as I have no idea about half the stuff people talk about here....
If you want stock Desire HD rom, you can flash back the RUU (2.2 Froyo). If you like 2.3 Gingerbread, you can try Cyanogen Mod 7 custom rom.
But for the most stable & battery efficient , you can try android revolution hd rom, leedroid, core droid rom.
You can view the list of rom (and also step-by-step to flash it) at the development thread located here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=765

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I used this guide to downgrade my Desire HD. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 - This debranded my phone which is what I wanted however I also realise it is not the latest build. Is this what you are you referring too when you say RUU 2.2 Froyo Rom?
If not, do you have a link to the one you are referring too?
That page you just linked to was for people who had the 1.72blahblah firmware, but wanted to downgrade to 1.32blahblah in order to root their phones.
The official firmware can be found on this page:
http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
...and the latest available firmware is this:
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
thanks for that, now how do I flash this? I assume the same way I did it before?
With the stock RUU exes, you don't put them on your phone and flash via Clockwork (or whatever) like you do with custom ROMs. You run the exe from your PC with the phone connected via USB and HTC Sync.
There is a comprehensive guide somewhere on this site.

[Q] What is the best way to root htc desire z?

Hi
I know that this was discussed many times.
but could you tell me what is the easiest/safer way to root/S-off htc desire z?
All posts I can find are quite old.
Thanks
Wiki method is considered by most here to be the safest.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
thank you.
wiki probly safest....i dont got a cpu so i did gfree...took me bout hour (i know im slow but im brickless)

I'm not rooted. If I have upgraded to 2.3.3 can I still use the gfree v0.5 method?

If you want to be rooted, I'd stay away from any official updates. No official updates have been rootable for some time. And I think people that have updated to the official Gingerbread T-Mobile G2 ROM are having trouble even downgrading in order to root. There is a pre-rooted (but otherwise "official") G2 T-Mobile Gingerbread ROM posted in the Development section. If you want the Sense GB ROM, you should wait until a pre-rooted version is posted here. You would still need to root and gfree in order to flash either of those.
Thanks RedPoint. Going to hold off for now. I love the official gingerbread. I just want screenshot and over-clocking capability.

[Q] rooting the desireHD running 2.3.3, any chance?

i recently purchased a DHD running 2.3.3 ( stock ROM ) ,
i need a root on my device? have tried ginger-break but no results,, digging through all relevant threads, it seems the only way forward is the way backwards, ie first downgrade to froyo , THEN root ? AFAIK , there is some soft check in Gingerbread that prevents a root?
which brings me back to my initial question.,, is there a way to ROOT WITHOUT going back to froyo ?
thanks n regards
-------------
sense> 2.1
kernel > 2.6.35.10
running >2.3.3
ROM > stock , 2.50.405.2
No you have to downgrade
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
Works perfect for ROM 2.50.405.2
^^
thanks , ill check and report
did the hack yesterday,,,
works like a charm !
thanks a lot...
-------------------
this is by far the easiest and fastest way to S-OFF, install CLOCKWORKMD, ROOT without downgrading to FROYO .. flashing custom ROMs etc is a piece of cake afterwards...
highly recommended,,,
ill donate soon..
to the dev team,,, thanks again,,,!
I want to do it but i don't have the bottle. If all goes wrong can i flash back to PD98IMG with bootloader. I don't want a brick.
Please, help me...

[Q] How to remove the ICS 3 button menu on RUU 1.29.980.11 (Australia Optus)

Hi all,
I have the latest stock version of Australia Optus (i.e. RUU 1.29.980.11) and I am looking to find how to remove that crappy ICS 3 button menu.
I have tried to search the forum, but it does not have the one that is suitable to my phone.
If anyone can do it or point me to the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
P.S - I can't post/reply to threads in development section since I only have less than 10 posts. I tried to ask endursa in the thread, but can't.
Search harder. There is a mod for odexed (i.e. stock) but you need to be rooted and hence bootloader unlocked.
So if you're going to do all that you might as well flash a custom ROM e.g. one with this option baked, or say ARHD then add the mod.
there is stickies on how to root and custom ROM in the dev section. please read carefully lol.
If you're a total noob at this you MIGHT want to wait until the official 1.29.980.11 RUU exe is made available by someone. If you brick the RUU is your get out of jail card (basically lets you flash back to stock factory). Unfortunately due to HTC's stupid S-ON and locking in general, we cannot flash even an older RUU say 1.28, as when we updated to 1.29 stock it updated a bunch of stuff like HBOOT etc. that right now custom roms cannot touch.
I'm also looking for a solution to this.
I've seen the odexed solution but that only seems to work on 1.29.401.11 stock
