Hi guys, first off grate site. I think I brick my Evo, there’s no power even with the power adapter.
This is what I did
1. rooted my phone (ok)
2. made backups (ok)
3. install mikfoyo 4.4 – everything works grate
4. updated to mikfoyo 4.5 – everything ok but 4g was acting funny
5. update radios but still nothing
6. then decide to update with Savaged-Zen-V0.0.5-CFS-HAVS-SBC-WiMAX-GB-signed.zip ( yea i know stupid )
7. reboot then got android with arrow
8. turn off phone tried to reboot into recovery with power button pressed with vol up, got three pulse, phone shut off and that was it. Never came on after that.
Thanks for your time and help
try the volume down button, not volume up.
Did you reboot your phone after flashing the radio or did you flash something else first?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i did the same thing with volume up to see what it would do. i just took battery out and put it back in. held the volume down and hit power. i was good to go again. but im having issues flashing themes now lol
wipe man. wipe all partitions (system, boot, cache, dalvik, data) w/ newest amon_ra recovery. then flash rom, reboot, and dont flash aosp kernels on sense roms ever again.
Thanks guys for the quick response but i tried all the above but there's no power on the phone, not even when pluged into charger. xHausx I did do the reboot after updating the radio.

So you have no power at all, even when plugged into the wall, with the phone turned off? No charging led? Are you sure you battery isn't totally dead. I've seen more than once where the battery dies, to the point where it won't take a charge. Or you could be stuck in diagnostic mode. Try letting the phone sit, with the battery out, for about an hour. Put the battery back in, then plug the phone in, and let it sit for a while, and see if the led light comes back on. If so, try power and voldown to see if you can get to the bootloader.
I tried that also but nothing it's dead

sounds like you should be taking it to a sprint store for a replacement if you get absolutely nothing with it plugged in.
If the phone is off and you plug in a power source, the charging LED will come on. If yours doesn't do that, the phone at a HW level is borked.

Yup. If you're positive your battery is good, then you gotta go to Sprint. I would clear anything from your SD card that relates to rooting, flashing, roms, etc. I've heard of Sprint techs checking the card for evidence of rooting.

wait, so you pulled the battery while the phone was installing radios? (green arrow going down or android coming out of box, depends on recovery). if you did, that means brick. no way around it.

green arrows means updating radios, wimax, pri, or nv. pulling battery during this most likely will brick your phone, like it sadly did to yours :'(

hey guys, my girlfriend just bought a new evo that has the gingerbread ota already installed. i want to root it and install a gingerbread rom (synergy to be specific). i understand that i need to revert back to froyo first, and then i plan on using the auto root from here--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448. my question is whats the best way to revert to an older ruu? i did it on my thunderbolt by just flashing in cwm but i was already rooted. ive read something about using fastboot but ive never done anything with that on my thunderbolt, so could someone point me in the right direction?
edit: did some more research, turns out the new hboot wont allow you to downgrade an ruu, and there's currently no way to install an older hboot. looks like im stuck waiting( well actually she is, i can still enjoy my root )
turn off phone completely (pull battery) press power button and volume down at same time. Thats brings you to Hboot. if there is S-on at the top of the screen somewhere just reboot and wait until someone comes up with a definate method of rooting the 2.3.3 otherwise you might look like a fool by breaking ur gf new phone.

haha yeah i just got my phone today and its so stupid how they force their OS on you. You cant even shut the phone off without pulling the battery (the power off in the menu just puts it to sleep so it boots up quickly when u power on). Hopefully someone can save us from this non rooted nightmare soon.

It sounds like you still have fast boot on. Just go into settings and applications the unchecked fastboot. Then it'll turn all the way off.

I tried searching, but I couldn't find anyone with the same problem as me and I don't know what to do.. I'm kind of freaking out. The last update I installed was darkside beta02, and I was really liking it minus a few connection and call issues. Anyways, I was in my car earlier today and picked out a song on play music. The phone instantly turned off, and it appeared that it was about to reboot so I didn't think much about it. Nope. When it starts to turn on it rarely makes it past the samsung screens that pops up right when you start the phone, but it has made it as far as the swirling samsung s splash screen thing. It just acts like it is rebooting from that part and it's like a never ending cycle until I remove the battery. I can get the phone into download mode by plugging it into the computer, but it only stays on for a few seconds and then goes back to it's never ending reboot. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I really can't afford to have bricked this phone
UPDATE: I managed to restore the phone to stock, and I proceeded to root and put darkside beta 7.1 on it. Everything was running fine... For a few hours. It began to do the same rebooting described above, but now instead of looking like it's going to boot normally it goes straight to a screen that says "Firmware encountered an issue. Please sleect recovery mode in Kies and try again." with the phone model, "Custom Binary Download: No" and "Current Binary: Samsung Official" up top. It only stays at this screen for a few seconds before it starts back into it endless half-reboot. Any suggestions? This is frustrating me A LOT.
uh, have you tried charging it? Honestly at first blush it sounds like a dead battery.

The problem is that I can't do anything but watch the phone start up for about 10 seconds, or be in download mode for about 10 seconds. Not much time to do anything.
That is why you reset flash counts before you go in... Google is your friend and try to unroot somehow--

I had this exact thing happen to me today!! For the last week or so, I would get a random reboot up to four times a day. This started happening after I flashed Whitehawkx UVLDE zip. What I did was left the battery in the phone let the constant reboot run until the battery died. Then I would try to get into download mode, but then it would reboot before Odin recognized it. I left the usb plug in the phone and took the battery out, the phone would still do the rebooting vibration. I just stayed with trying to get the phone to stay on long enough to get recognized by Odin. Leave the drained battery out of the phone for a while (your choice of how long, I left it for about forty minutes) and replace it, hopefully it stays on long enough to get recognized. Finally it stayed on long enough and I re-flashed ULKL1. Now I'm back to running TDJ's DARKSIDE. EVOLUTION.2 [BETA 3] and I haven't had any reboots where as before it would reboot within fifteen minutes.

Thank you! And when you say replace the battery, do you mean get a whole new one or put in the dead one?
Just put the dead one in.
My advice is similar to his, but without killing the battery. Open odin on your computer, and input what your going to input into pda and have everything ready to go, so all you have to do is press start and its off. Now, start with the phone turned off, hold both volume buttons and plug in the usb cable from the computer quickly! Have your hand ready on the mouse and ready to click start. Soon as odin recognizes click that start button! Hopefully everything happened so quick, that the phone will take the flash. However, if it doesn't, then I'm afraid the only answer you would have left is to use a jig to reset the counter and take it in to be replaced.

The thing is, it starts to start up, and you can clearly see that it's rooted. I feel like they won't honor my warranty.
I recently Rooted my sealed samsung galaxy s3 without having a clue what i'm doing i downloaded this program called snapdragon to root it along with ODIN. Ummm seems like u can fix it.... go bak to stock using odin as well and go back to stock and i believe cwm is going to be gone so as your root access so re-do it but this time guide yourself through a turorial(a.k.a google) and since you have to clue i think the best choice for you is to find a video tutorial in case your doubting or getting confused with the steps or sometimes to see what you did wrong that caused the phone to misbehave...

This is why I hate one-click-root kits, you get people doing things to their phones they don't understand, wreck it and come here saying "help, I don't know what do do!" Something like this you really should at least understand the basics. I hope this gets you more involved in researching what's actually happening. It's important to know what's happening to your device as well as why, that way if something goes badly you'll have an idea of how to get out of it.
Sorry, enough lecturing, let's see if we can get something going here. Give a bit more detail about what happens. You're phone is shut down, right? You hit the power button and no response, like the battery is actually out of the phone, or does it turn on and give you a blank screen? If it was a brick, I'd think you'd at least see the boot screen before everything goes wrong.
Ok, I'm going to go ahead and assume you've removed the battery. If you haven't, do so now.
If it still won't turn on, try actually holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds. I had a scary moment with my phone yesterday, rebooted it running Wicked v5 on Trinity and the screen just died. I've been running that rom for a week with just a couple of issues here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled the battery and tried again, nothing. After holding the power button down for a bit I felt a quick vibrate, then the boot logo came up. No idea why, I'm going to have to look into it.
Beyond that, I'm brand new to this phone and Sammy's Android devices so I'm still learning myself. HTC phones I could help out more with, but I'm still a bit clueless with this thing.

Yes I have taken out the battery replaced it several times. I hit the volume home and power button several times. When I do that I get a zero response nothing shows up I hear no sound its as if the phone is just completely dead. One thing I did realise is when I plug it into the computer and press the power button what would happen is it would connect and automatically disconnect

Don't forget to let go of the power button when going into recovery.
Have you done what the other post said?
Hold power for about 10-30 seconds. Does it do anything? Do you feel a verrrry slight vibration?
When you plug it in without doing anything else does the computer see it in device manager? How about if you press power once? Or holding power down?
Does it register that its charging?
This may sound dumb but did you try powering up without the phone plugged into anything?

Ummm. Sorry but maybe im missing something? Your first sentence in your op says you didnt have a clue what you were doing....
And where is it supposed to infer that you've done everything already?
Imo you have been getting 'real' advice but from what I see you haven't 'really' answered anyones suggestions.
No one can help you if you dont tell us what exactly you have tried and what what happened when you did.
For example in your only response you mentioned hitting the volume and home keys a bunch of times....what exactly do you mean by this? Did you hold them while trying to power up? Volume up or down? Did you release any of them during that process, and if so which and when?
Its kinda hard to help someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing and only responds that hes done everything common sense dictates.
I seriously mean no offence but to me common sense would dictate that you not try rooting or anything if you know you dont know what you're doing.
It would also dictate that if you want further help with this you should go back and respond to what everyone suggested.
Like I said, im not trying to offend, just help.

I am having the same issue
I just tried flashing Android Revolution to my phone. I went through the whole set up process. Went to reboot then it went blank. Nothing. I get nothing when I plug it in. The computer doesn't recognize any device attached to it. I've tried all the ideas listed here and I get nothing. It's as if the phone is completely dead. When I flashed the rom my battery was at 90%. I've used various roms on different phones and this was the first time I did it to my Galaxy s3 and this is the first time it's ever happened. Talk about frustrating.

Now it's dead and flashing the red led and white softbuttons one after another if it's plugged in a power source. If not plugged in I can't get it to respond at all. I tried LGNPST and it works in download mode but even after that I get to 85% and the same thing happens with the lights.
Not sure what I should / can do I need to rescue my picture folder from the phone

looks like you flashed an LG kernel on top of an AOSP ROM. You might have to do a battery pull.
Ugh Didn't know I couldn't do that. Sucks... I am exchanging this phone anyways but did not backup onto my computer before trying to flash a clean copy to return back

Do a battery disconnect. It's pretty easy and has fixed the problem several times for individuals that I know personally. Good Luck!

Yup, I had to do a battery pull to recover from the same issue. You will need a Torx T4 for the bottom screws, and a 00 Philips for the battery connector. Just be very delicate, especially when disconnecting the terminal. Good Luck!
I get this everytime my phone's battery runs out. Im stock rooted and for some reason my phone stops working. It happenes to me two days ago,and just got it working this morning. When the lights start flashing i hold power and volumedown and it gets rid of it. But then my phone overheats if i dont go into the bootloader. I guess the last part is my problem though.
Battery pull worked! The problem now is how do I get back to stock? I tried to LGNPST the ZV9 bin to it but it's freezing at the 4G screen.

How do i reboot the phone if the phone hangs suddenly? I have no idea about removing the battery and stuff. Is there any physical button combo to reboot?

i think, it's vol up and power. (try vol down if up doesn't work)
I didn't have luck finding an answer to this on the forums so I figured I'd make a new post. I have been running a version (not sure which) of Liquid Smooth for a few months. Yesterday, I noticed my phone was on a boot loop. It would vibrate, show the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen and then turn off. I pulled the battery and memory card and tried again. It still wouldn't come on. I pulled the battery and then rebooted to recovery mode. I went there to wipe and reboot. When I tried to do that it said something like, "what you are looking for can't be found". I pulled the battery again but this time when I tried to turn it back on it did nothing. I have no vibrations, I have nothing on my screen. I'm not sure what could have happened because I haven't made a change to my phone for quite some time. Any ideas?

Battery is going bad or the hardware is going bad.
What recovery and version?
Have you tried booting into recovery or download mode?
Take battery out and put back in:
Recovery: volume up, home button, power
Download mode: volume down, home button and power

I'm not able to get the phone to come on so I don't know the versions of anything I've used. All I know is my phone is the T-999. Sorry, I know that's probably no help at all.
You don't have a spare battery do you? If not, you should see if you can find someone you know that has one. It could be that you battery just went bad.

I tried all of this but did not have any luck. The phone doesn't do anything. It doesn't make any sense how it can just stop working out of nowhere like this. Wouldn't it mess up immediately after I rooted/added a custom ROM if I did something wrong rather than a few months later? I'm afraid that the phone may be done for. : (

I hate to say it, but usually when something like this happens it's most likely to be hardware related. If you don't have access to a spare, go to a T-Mobile store and ask to borrow a battery to see if it'll power up with a known good one. Batteries usually don't just die like that, but it can happen.
So you don't get a short vibe or anything out of it? What about when you hold the power button for about 10seconds? If you remove the battery and plug it in, do you get an led lit up? How about with the battery in?
If the battery turns out to be good, you could attempt the debrick method by KAsp3rd stickies in development. I don't see why it would be a brick, but at this point I'd try anything available just to be positive.
If you have insurance on it, it may be time to consider using it.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you man. These S3's are starting to get a little old though, and no matter how careful we are, they do suffer more abuse than any other electronics we may use. I'm seeing more and more posts like yours recently, I'm sorry to say.
Keep us updated on it, and good luck with it!
