Official Engadget App - Windows Phone 7 General

about an hour ago i was skimming through the new apps in the marketplace and came upon an engadget app (not engadget reader). I went ahead and downloaded it. Right off the bat i could tell this was the official engadget app. Great metro ui integration, very smooth interface and offered podcast and videos integrated into the app. I was a little suspicious of the app and whether or not it was the official one, but it had an about page with all the copyright info from engadget. Right before typing this I searched once more for this app and it seems that it has been pulled from the marketplace as well as the engadget reader.
Did anyone else download this app before it was pulled?

It's unfortunate that it got pulled down before I could get it. I have the Engadget reader and it's lacking. I want an official Engadget app ASAP!
Good to hear about it being smooth with metro UI integration though.

I managed to get it before it disappeared.
Wonder what got it yanked?

What is it like, screenshots?
Microsoft seems to be really strict about their guidelines. They have guidelines for everything from User Interface to how long u have for the app to load/resume to distributing it on the marketplace, lol.

I believe this link should do, but it's not there for download:
http://redirect.zune.net/External/L...oneAppID=e32911a0-472d-e011-854c-00237de2db9e
Link may not work in browsers other than IE. It didn't work in my version of Opera.

I got it. Settings button restarts it, might be why they pulled it so it's fixed. Give it a go and see if it's the same for you.

Ok it wasn't an offical Engadget app or they would have had an artical on it. much like all the BBC apps none are offical BBC apps. the apps that Engadget has for IOS and Android are offical. from what I was told they will be having one soon but it wasn't that app.

which phone do you have? Maybe it's restricted to HTC or some other device. Maybe limited to a country? Still no download for me.

Yeah, it is official, but it is buggy.
App restarts whenever you hit the Settings button.

I deleted to the unofficial Engadget app for the official Engadget app.
It seems the unofficial app was pulled down too

The screenshots make it look sort of ugly compared to the Android and iOS versions of the app. For anyone who has it, what do you guys think?

Go figure. Engadget is pro iPhone and Android. Not sure what are their motivation to create this app, and now I see why.

Definitely official, I can even read and post comments from it.

I have been trying to get this app since it was discovered on the 16th. My guess is that it was released, found to be buggy, and then pulled back. One thing about the WP7 marketplace is that Microsoft actually QA's the apps during the approval process. Android, never. Apple, yes. But it is to look for anti-apple or sexy stuff(j/k).
My buddy has been trying to get his WP7 GPS app approved for quite some time now. It keeps getting rejected for various QA and functionality requirements that keeps the WP7 ecosystem efficient and functional. So props to Microsoft for being sticklers about the quality of apps released(the purpose and types of apps release is another thing).
In case people want to keep checking for the app, here's the link to Zune d/l: http://ow.ly/3ZWl0

The ATRIX 4G lagged its way to a 9/10 (or was it 9.5?) on Engadget and I believe the Galaxy S[hit] got a pretty high score as well even though its lag and GPS issues were well-known at the point of review...

Twitter App in new WP7 Advert

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwKjEJOAWxg
Pause at around 12 seconds....
The twitter app featured seems to have a live tile which tells you if you have new tweets or not. Am I missing something here? My Twitter app is nothing like that and is just a static tile with the twitter bird on it
Is it a different Twitter app? Or have they just put out an advert which features software not available to the public yet?

I have wondered the same exact same thing
Oh the power of advertisement and digital media editing
Steve Ballmer said he is brining mobile Office with him on vacation, I assume being a CEO of the corporation he didn't mean he just reads them docs, he most probably meant he creates and edits them.
Did you try that on your device?

It must be the magic of television. If you look at most commercials for an Android phone or iPhone/iPad, it mentions that the screens are simulated.
It would be nice to have that app though...

Push notifications just hit the iPhone app in the last week or so, they announced at the same time that it was coming to Android and Windows Phone. So yeah, its either edited or they were using an early version of the software.

New Native Youtube app by HTC

If you guys haven't gotten it yet...get it! Awesome app! It allows watching Youtube vids in HQ even on 3G! =D HTC got it right!
So is this a HTC only app?
I honestly don't know. It's definitely an HTC made app, but it doesn't appear under HTC Apps in the the Marketplace, it appears in the general apps section.
not finding this in marketplace, still can only find the basic youtube app and the one by lazyworm.

The decision to let hardware makers customise only by individual apps is starting to pay off. The fact that HTC are the only ones to have a native YouTube app (which imo is a stupid thing to leave out of the OS, but only cause I use YouTube a lot) is making me strongly lean towards one of their devices over samsung

if you read his web site you will see that it is only for homebrew , and that is the best that can happen for a file explorer

I really hope that schaps either releases the source code, or doesn't obfuscate it so other developers can make use of this.
yea likewise. though based on readings, i believe he's just calling HTC's interop service to pull the file listings that way.

Got my 2 apps published and can see the same under my AppList, it says certified and it is under the Publised tab, but it is still not showing up in the MP.
Any idea?
Publishing can take 24-48 hours.
It does take time. 24-48 hours is pretty accurate. I have been able to see my published apps in the website http://windowsphone.com/marketplace but could not find it by searching the marketplace. It'll get there, the system just takes a while to sync up. Patience!

This is very true. Your app will then show a status of "Submission Started" or something to that effect. I don't think it actually hurts a published app but I had this and it generally confused me. You can always go back in and click "Cancel Submission" to leave your app as is though.

I wasn't able to cancel the submission. I made them cancel the certification and turns out I still had to make a metadata update in order to escape it lol. Oh well, I'll know next time.
Marketplace publishing process (comparing with year ago) now become very slow and annoying. And MS still want to expand developers community! I'm afraid if developers should wait two or more weeks to be published (actually, I'm talking more about quick bugfixes etc., not the initial submission), developer's interest to WP7 platform will reduced.

Definitely. To reply to sensbostons post. What you say is correct. My app got published and a bug occurred immediately that I needed to post an update to. Needless to say I was JUST able to upload my updated xap yesterday and the bug happened two weeks ago. The support is horrible as I was instructed to do things that ultimately led to pushbacks. Do they want their developers to have faith in this Marketplace? I've been wondering that. That dashboard... The buggiest thing of all. Sometimes I refresh and it tells me it doesn't have my tax information at all.
