i have tried installing/reinstalling zune software on my windows 7 64-bit OS and every time it opens and then locks up my entire computer. i can't click on anything nor does ctrl+alt+del work at all. i have to physically restart the PC. this is obviously a big problem for someone with a windows phone. does anybody know what's going on? i wasn't having any problems for months until about a week ago.
They just did an update recently which is my guess, your problem. Did you reboot when you uninstalled, before you reinstalled?
How long do you wait for your pc to become responsive again? I have the same OS and same problem with Zune, I either wait for the pc to start responding again or ctrl-alt-del and eventually kill the process and start it again, which seems to fix it most times.

tried that. it is freezing everything immediately. i finally got to task manager and shut it down, but i cannot physically do anything in zune at all. any other suggestions?
it might sound weird but have you tried installing the 32 bit version of Zune?
there is no such thing as zune 32-bit. you download the installer and there is only one file that does the installation for any OS.

Run the installer in compatibility mode for XP... thats what my wife had to do on her laptop
Wow, I'm running Win7 64bit with no problems, have you tried doing a system restore back to when it WAS working? In case a system file got corrupt somewhere?
Clear out the Zune cache in your user profile. There's something in there that it's trying to load and locking up your computer. I'm not near my machine now, but it's somewhere in the AppData section.

i would give you a huge hug if you were around. i did a windows 7 search and found the appdata folder. clicked on microsoft and then right clicked on the zune folder and deleted all. i did not uninstall zune while i did this, but i did have it closed. after the appdata cache was deleted, i restarted zune and it works perfectly without any hiccups.
thanks so much!! i have never had problems with software so badly!!

true that, i actually went back to all 4 websites where i posted this question and made a point to paste in my resolution. one of the damnedest things about the internet is when people post problems on message boards, figure them out and then never post the answer.

I have seen many people asking about bitpim and the kin phones and many with no solutions or answers to their questions. It IS possible to use bitpim to view the file system with these devices. I haven't seen any tutorials on how to do it so I've decided to post a step by step guide.
The things you will need:
Kin Two or Kin TwoM(I have not been able to test this on a Kin One or OneM)
A micro usb data cable
Bitpim
Drivers for the Kin available below
http://rapidshare.com/files/439206164/KinPixiPreCentroTreo800w_etc_DiagDrivers.zip
Don't worry about fixing the error in the qcser.inf, since I have already done this for you.
I would like to thank jennydevil for reminding us that these drivers are for 32-bit not 64-bit operating systems.
Step 1
On your kin device go to the phone application. Once there dial ##77647266488 and call. It will ask you for your Service Programming Code. The default code is 000000. You will now be in a menu labeled "SETTINGS". Navigate to OTHER and then swipe to the left. Here you will see PPro, USB Pass-Through, and USB VID Stream. All of these options will be off. You will want to turn USB Pass-Through on.
Step 2
Now connect your phone to your Windows PC. Your pc will try to find a driver called "Pink CDMA diagnostics" and will fail. Fear not. Open the start menu and right click on Computer then Manage. On the menu to the far left click device manager. In other devices you will see the Pink CDMA diagnostics. Right click it and press "Update Driver Software". Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software". Browse for the location of the drivers downloaded earlier and click next. It will show a warning that the drivers are not signed. Continue anyways.
Step 3
Now you are ready to open up bitpim. Set it to the same COM as the phone and make sure in the View menu that View Filesystem is checked. Now feel free to browse through the file system of your kin.
If you run in to any problems feel free to ask questions. If you have any ideas or information to make this tutorial more useful feel free to speak your mind.
Fantastic!!
This is a great start to making our kin experience much better! Thank you, and keep up the solid work! Your friends at Microsoft Kin Forums thank you aswell! Check our sites for updates that could help, and together we can make KIN the phone it truely can be!
social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/pmxphone/threads
link to MS kin forums (gotta add http)
Thank you for putting the tutorial together (and posting the pre-fixed drivers)! In case anyone else runs into the same hiccup I did - the drivers are for 32-bit OS, not 64-bit OS. Once I used the right system, the drivers and BitPim worked like a champ.
Thanks again!
I can see filesystem
Hey thanks, I can see the filesystem, I think? It says nothing is detected when I manually set the phone. I cannot "get phone data" but can read the filesystem.
.efs_private
CGPS_ME
CGPS_PE
DMU
...etc
But what does this all mean? Can I access ringtones/sounds to edit the list? Please all I want is to add and delete ringtones! Ugh why is this so difficult. Anybody know how to do this?

No at the moment you can't do that with BitPim but you can email a ringtone to your phone.
Help in step two
Can not find driver location on Windows Vista. I can get to Windows32 file/ then to driver file but new downloaded drivers as in step two.
Thanks
Ah ok, dang. Problem is...Kin has no function to delete ringtones. So once its on, its on forever. I just can't commit to that.
Moved to KIN two forum and stickied.
Also, fix the rapidshare link, the file seems to be unavailable.

Download the drivers extract them somewhere like a folder on your desktop. Let's call the folder kindrivers. Then when you are browsing to the files you would go to C: (or the drive vista is located on)/Users/Yourusername/desktop/kindrivers
Hope that helps.

I am at a lost, I did all the steps, plus the driver download. Everything went fine. I can see what port the phone is using, and have it set on bitpim. When I go to detect the phone on bitpim, it can not find the phone. Have tried on two different computers and can not get it to work. Bitpim can not find the phone, any thoughts?

Bitpim won't find the phone you have to manually set it to the correct COMM port.
I found the com port in device manager. It has been set, but it says it can not still detect phone. When I do go to settings in bitpim, I go to Verzion Wireless, Motorola, and then Kim? Is that correct, there is no Kin just Kim,so is that the same thing?

It won't detect it. Just show the file system. Just set it to other cdma.
Hey, I'm about to be forced to get the Kin TwoM (its the best phone on Verizon without a data plan). Has there been any progress on the ROM dumping front? It seems like you would know. Thanks...
Just wanted to post in here saying that I just got myself a Kin TwoM this weekend without knowing anything about it's limitations or potential. I got it working with BitPim using this tutorial, but... yeah, I have no idea what to do now. I'll certainly be watching this board for anything cool that comes of this, though!
Well I have had my Kin Twom for more then a week. I am probably going to return it, its a shame because it is not a bad little phone. Microsoft and Verizon will be the death of this thing. Know what to do about my cell phone?
Ron
This is discussed elsewhere, but deep within other threads, so I wanted to give it it's own thread to help people in finding out how to prevent Zune from relocking WP7 devices. It only works on HTC devices for now because TouchXplorer only works for HTC devices.
1. Install TouchXplorer
2. Install HTC Connection Setup
3. Download and extract this zip file to your PC.
4. Deploy the extracted XAP to your device
5. If XBMOD.Files.Deployer does not automatically run, run it from your App list on your device.
6. Using TouchXplorer on your device, copy \My Documents\My Ringtones\CustClear.provxml to \Windows\
7. Run HTC Connection Setup on your device, hit the ok button (with the check mark) to let it provision.
8. You're done.
If you unlock with ChevronWP7, apply this hack, and then for some reason your phone relocks, refer to DanielNTX's post to get it unlocked again. You need to install a new certificate, provided on his post.
All credit goes to xboxmod and his HTC Registry Editing thread and HTC WP7 Apps thread.
Hope it works for me... "thanks"
I tried this before and it didn't work. It revoked every application I had downloaded.
Yeah I had this done for a while but my question is can I uninstall the program once I've done everything else? It looks ugly in my app list =/
This Didn't work for me, had finally got it unlocked, came back 3 hours later, connected with this installed and also with flight mode on and now my phone's relocked. Make sure to block Windows Mobile Zune Communication Service from your firewall, while that was blocked it didn't relock

Thanks. This works well. Finally, I don't need to unlock everytime after zune syncing.
Do you think this patch will be removed by MS at the next update as well as chevron unlock?
I think that chevron (the phone unlocker) doesn't work after OSupdate.
Yes, the method that ChevronWP7 uses will be disabled in the update... but that doesn't mean it won't be cracked open again.
After applying this patch there are 2 files in the My Ringtones dir - one of them is restoreCustClear.provxml file, which means it will revert the registry changes done by the first provxml file (custClear.provxml).
Do you think that if I activate my phone the Marketplace will start working as usual - downloading any apps without the error "can't get info right now... come back after a little while" , AFTER I've installed the above patch for not relocking the phone? I.e. in other words can I side-load apps and simultaneously continue to use the legacy Marketplace without any problems?
@thesecondsfade, applied the patch on my HD2.
Thanks

Yes its easy but for some updating doesn't work, for example
copy paste function isn't working. So be sure to check this instructions

We said few days ago that updating your phone will be easier than ever on Windows Phone 7 plaftorm and it actually is. Update that you will be downloading is called NoDo, ti includes copy/paste functionality and faster perfomance, in resuming apps mainly. Little reminder, this is the way that Windows Phone 7 update before Nodo was done, it will be the same for this one also.

Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting MTP to function on a Windows XP (32-bit) machine? I keep getting an error message saying that it didn't install successfully, and I can't access anything on my sdcard (internal or external).
The error message is as follows:
Cannot Install this Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
LGE Android Net MTP Device
An error occurred during the installation of the device
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
Click Finis to close the wizard.
I've been searching high and low and have found and executed what seemed to be pretty good leads on getting it working, but all to no avail.
Things I've tried:
- Installed the LGUnitedMobileDriver_S50MAN311AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.11.3.exe package.
- Ensured that Windows Media Player 10 or greater is installed.
- Ensured that USB Debugging is NOT checked in phone.
- Installed the Microsoft MTP Porting Kit.
- Opened and edited the wpdmtp.inf file located within the C:\WINDOWS\inf\ folder to include and point specifically to the Device and Vendor ID for the LG G3 D851 (for those wondering what that looks like, here it is: %GenericMTP.DeviceDesc%=MTP, USB\VID_1004&PID_633E&MI_00 )
- Opened Device Manager and manually updated the driver by pointing it to the LG Electronics folder created when installing the driver package above.
- Rebooted computer multiple times.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled device and drivers multiple times.
- Tried editing/deleting a registry key (don't worry, I backed it up and restored it when it didn't work)
I swear there were other things I tried, but if there were, I'm not remembering them right now.
Anybody have any suggestions? Anyone had success with Windows XP and MTP mode on this device?
Thanks for your time.

No dice. Uninstalled LG United Mobile Driver package through "Control Panel" "Add/Remove Programs", reset computer, installed freshly downloaded copy of the LG United Mobile Drivers, reset computer, then plugged the phone in.

Same thing for me, but...
I traveled the EXACT path with my S3. I also had XP Pro 32 bit on my comp. I tried all the same would-be solutions listed in this thread with 0% working to fix the error. I however, could not use ADB. My phone literally did not show up anywhere when plugged into my laptop. I downloaded the Samsung toolkit offered her on XDA and it was useless as well. Over the past 1.5 years I would periodically start a new internet search hoping to find some new advice but never made any progress. I had the paid version of Solid Explorer installed on my phone as my file explorer and realized it had a FTP file transfer option and used that instead of USB made. This solution ended up being an easier way to access my device and SD card files so I gave up.
Fast forward to today and same problem exists with my S4 except the first time I plugged into my comp I saw a pop up window on my device that said something like...must have Service Pack 3 installed...WMP v.10 or higher...yada yada. Now I do have WMP 10 but I show Service Pack 1 and 2 only when I look at installed programs. I used to have Service Pack 3 and don't know how that changed. I'm gunna look into finding a download for SP 3 but not holding my breath anything will come of it.
I'll check back if my situation improves, but in the mean time I guess an install of Solid Explorer is due for my new phone.

Kind of surprised you're still running Windows 8.1. Windows 10 is free for you and better in just about every way, regardless of the UI changes. Just a recommendation, though I doubt it'd fix your issue.
There's an easy way to tackle this but it depends on how the driver is being installed. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows is insisting on downloading and installing this "TP-Link" driver from Windows Update, there is a way to disable this in a few easy steps. If you're connecting your phone to your computer and Windows just assumes that it's a "TP-Link Android Phone" and applies the wrong pre-loaded driver (usually gives you a notification near the clock) then we're gonna have to get a bit crafty.
EDIT: Silly question. You don't have USB tethering or any wacky app that would be causing this issue, right?

Would you mind doing something for me before performing the steps I'm going to list below? Go into Device Manager with the phone plugged in and installed as the stupid "TP-Link" BS and find it in the list of devices. Should probably be under Portable Devices or something. Right click it and click Properties, go to the Driver tab and click "Driver Details". All of the drivers should be located in the 'system32/DRIVERS' folder. Mind giving me the names of those drivers listed? Naming convention is typically driverName.sys.
Additionally, we're going to try a Group Policy change. Hit Windows Key + R and type 'gpedit.msc' and hit enter. A window labeled "Local Group Policy Editor" should come up. Then do the following:
Expand Computer Configuration (Left hand side, the navigation panel)
Expand Administrative Templates
Expand System
Expand Device Installation
Click Device Installation Restrictions
On the right hand side, now, there should be a list of restrictions. Somewhere in that list there should be an item "Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings". Double-click that and another window named the same thing should pop up. In the top left, set it to enabled and click Apply, then OK.
Unplug your phone and get rid of that ****ty driver if you haven't already and then restart and try connecting the phone again to see if the same incorrect driver install occurs.
@MKD73 You ever get this sorted out?
Sorry been away on holiday for the weekend , I'll be taking a look in the morning :victory:
Please give update
Have you resolved this issue? My laptop is acting the same. Device manager sees my phone as "TP-Link Android Phone" with sub category of "Android Bootloader Interface." I can't use ADB with it, not recognized.
I tried doing what Alcolawl said but nothing happens. When I right click the "TP Link--- it just says general properties, no 'drivers' etc. I saw the 'driver' option in the "Andoid bootloader Interface" . It says the driver is: winusb.sys, wdfCoInstaller01009.dll and WinUSBInstaller2.dll. When I tried to edit the group, it says "Windows can not find gpedit.msc
Hope you can help me. My phone is stuck in fastboost mode- LG D838

Have you resolved this issue? My laptop is acting the same. Device manager sees my phone as "TP-Link Android Phone" with sub category of "Android Bootloader Interface." I can't use ADB with it, not recognized.

Hi Kalikotpepot,
Got the same issue here., Nexus 5x keeps on rebooting, no way to get to recovery and shows as TP Link on my computer. Did you manage to sort it out somehow?

I did it. Execute :
Code:
rundll32.exe newdev.dll,DeviceInternetSettingUi 2
and prevent driver from being installed.
Help me please!
Did you guys manage to fix it? I tried everything you people said but it didn't work. I have a Blu Vivo Xi+ and my PC only recognizes it as TP-LINK Android Phone. I dumbly deleted it's OS and all it's data when trying to update it. I only have access to TWRP and fastboot, is there a way to fix it? I would love if someone could assist me ?.
