Can't seem to figure out my battery - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using evervolv gingerbread with the invisiblek. 37 kernel and no matter what I do my battery will die in 2-3 hours with moderate wifi web browsing. Even just sitting there or messing around swiping on the home screen it will lose % by the minute. I'm using the 1500mah touch pro 2 battery so it shouldn't die that fast. I've tried everything including underclocking using setcpu to no avail. What puzzles me is I can turn my phone off and charge it 40-50% in 20ish minutes. Seems like the battery has lost its ability to hold a charge but i have no idea. Anyone have any advice?

Are you in an area with poor signal? Signal search will munch battery. If so, and you have wifi signal available, use that.
Other stuff to check:
Turn off any live wallpapers.
Check the screen brightness, turn off BT and wifi if you don't use/need it frequently, turn off GPS until needed, and look at the number and frequency of things you are synching, like weather, gmail, social networks, etc. etc.
All these things contribute to battery drain. Also, if not using wifi, toggle the sleep policy so it won't be constantly searching for available signals.
Look in SetCPU at the scaling governor for the kernel you are using - if it has a setting for ondemand, use that. Even better, if it has smartass, use that - it will scale down automatically while screen is off.

Is this an OEM TP2 battery? How long have you had it? Where did you buy it from?

I am seeing a sharp drop in battery even when on wifi. Doing anything other than idling kills my battery. I do not have the screen turned up all of the way. I do not have anything set to sync more often than the default and certainly no different than I had back months ago with froyo. The only widget I have is Fancy widget thats set to check every 2 hours.
I turned off the live wallpaper but it still sits there sucking down battery. I am in an area with a bad signal but even with a good signal it still drains way to fast.
Is there any program I can use to monitor how much battery every application is using?
It is an OEM TP2 battery that came with it when I bought it when it came out. Oct 2009 abouts. I figured it would be nice for a free 11% extra capacity.

Serious battery drain :(

I got my Desire in april and ever since I've never managed to get the battery to last more than a day.
I've tried different ROMs (Defrost, OpenDesire with and without Sense, MoDaCo r4, DJDroid, Neophyte, Pays-rom 2.1) but it's always the same: almost no drain in sleep mode but as soon as I turn the screen on and start using it the battery goes down ~20% every hour. I don't believe that's normal since some people get 3-4 days out of their battery.
For example, today my phone has been on for 2½ hours and lost 43% battery with WiFi on, just surfing the net and using Tapatalk.
The screen brightness is fixed at 30%, auto-sync off, bluetooth off, network mode set to WCDMA only and I have good 3G reception where I live.
I have no clue what to do, maybe someone else does?
I have the same life spend for my battery. I think its quite normal for desire. Unless I'm abnormal too : x

You can use setCPU to underclock the processor or to create rules to make it powersaver.
I (as many other people) have one for setting the max/min processor to 245MHz when the screen is off, so it doesnt waste so much battery. I havent tested a lot, since I did it yesterday but the battery is lasting longer.
Also there are different ROMs that have better battery life...

I use JuiceDefender. Just by installing the free app from the market, I've increased my battery by 1.5x what it was originally.
With Ultimate Juice installed, I saw an increase of up to 2.5x.
Sods law, I can't purchase anything via the market due to having a Google Apps email account :|

I've tried it but it's not helping since I'm not syncing anything automatically anyway and the battery isn't drained with screen off.
It's when I start using the phone my battery percentage goes bananas.
And btw I know how you feel, I live in Sweden and we don't have paid apps here. Thank god for MarketAccess.

My Desire was acting like that during my first 2 days of usage. The battery was draining really fast even in standby mode. I installed advanced task killers and after that the battery improved. I do not know if it is because this app or there were some other configurations that I accidentally did...
But the battery life right now is way better than before (even lasts longer than my previous iphone 3gs). Hope this helps =D
I have pretty decent battery life and I use the stock unrooted unmodified rom. Some apps completely obliterate battery life. I used to keep eBuddy open, but I found that it kills my battery faster then anything else.

Hmm, when you say "just surfing the net", you're actually using WiFI + AMOLED + CPU, which are 3 of the biggest battery drains on the device.
IME, you can get days out of the phone, but if you actually have the screen turned on all of the time (i.e. you're actually using the phone), then 20% per hour probably isn't that insane. After all, that's 5 hours of continuous use, which isn't too awful from a modern smart phone.
Honestly, I think the answer might be "Yes, it does that" and "you'll probably need to charge it during the day". I've taken to charging mine on the way to work and back again (about 45 mins each way) and I'm still at 90% at bedtime.
Oh, and forget JuiceDefender. Yes, it makes a difference...but only when the screen is turned off. As soon as you start using it (and that's what you're obviously doing here), it shifts out of the way. Once I realised this, I uninstalled it...never looked back.

Oh, couple of other notes. Bluetooth doesn't make that much difference unless you're actually using it. 3G uses quite a bit more power compared to 2G. Consider switching to 2G when you're on WiFi. (sadly, no automated way to do this )
i am not using any of these tools.
i have wifi always on 3g on
no live wallpaper and push mail (k-9) with 2 accounts
my battery lasts 1,5-2 days. with phone turned off during the night. 0am till 7am.
i am surfing a lot and writing a lot emails.

Here comes a hint:
Turn off ALL unnecessary widgets like "Bluetooth", "GPS", "WiFi". Turn off also "Mobile"-internet widget, and turn it on only when u want to update some apps or check your mail.
I have noticet that "Mobile"-internet widget drains hell of a lot battery, but if u turn it off now and then u will have ure phone, like I had, for 6 days - with one charge!

Turning 3g off and data for longer battery

Is 3g signal the same signal if I turned it off and just had 2g? Why I'm asking is I usually have 0-1 bar at home and I know poor signal strength causes battery drain. If I go 2g will I have more bars or the as I would in 3g?
I'm asking this because I have been told when I bought my last phone.. tp2 that it had to have a data plan or nothing will work. So my question is and have asked before but never have gotten a response is.. if I turn data off.. will I still get incoming sms? Im I better off getting juice defender then? Will this help? That is.. is sms workable with data off.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
SMS is 1X. You don't need data for SMS texts. Texting is available on even the OLDEST non data phones.
Now, if you turn off data, you've pretty much eliminated most of what makes a "smart phone" smart.
Spare batteries are cheap, as are several different chargers. One for car, one for office, one for home, one for travel, etc.
Better you get into the habit of whenever you're near a power plug, to plug it in and let it charge. Once it becomes an ingrained habit, you'll not worry about battery life as much and you'll get much more enjoyment and use out of your phone. Besides, better get used to it. Processor speeds, power hungry hardware keeps advancing, battery tech doesn't.
I have 3 batteries and a tp2 I use to charge the others while not in use so always have a full battery. I don't sync anything but my email. I can always turn the data back on for internet or anything I'm using for internet. Why I mentioned juicedefender... also I underclock and undervolt. Just looking for a longer battery life. I don't get more than 4 with moderate use.
Edit: one doesn't have to get use to it if there are ways for longer battery life. I'm sure you have all the accounts sync and checked, screen brightness set all the way up, 4g on, gps on, and overclocked and saying get use to it its a smart phone.
I don't have 4g and I do use the internet a lot and check my email. I get my email to sync when I chose to look at my email and don't need to check every so often wasting my battery. Not everyone uses all the stuff you can use the phone for or as much as someone else.

You're saying you only get 4 hours life?????
I keep wifi on, BT on, data on.
Between 8am and noon, I've browsed, made 2- 30 min phone calls, updated 3 apps from the market, played (shhh, don't tell my boss) 3 different games for at least 15 mins each, checked the local news. and I'm at 82% using the stock battery.
Also, have exchange push enabled, gmail pull at it's quickest interval, NOT overclocked, not running any task killers. No 4G here, so that's off and GPS and NETWORK location are also both off.
If you're down in 4 hours, you have a different issue. Better install a few monitoring programs to see what the heck is going on.
Granted the 1500mah battery is way too anemic for this phone, you should be able to do better than 4 hours.
I agree you defiantly have something going on causing a battery drain. I used to get 6-8 hours with moderate use and have worked a lot of different things to finally get up to 14016 which i am happy with (i still dont see how anyone gest 30-50 unless there "moderate use" is not touching the phone except to have 1-2 calls or something on the break.
i recommend the paid version of system monitor. it lets you see your battery drain cpu usage and device usage. it also has a history option that will let you see which apps use the most power. The only other thing i can think of is you have an app preventing the phone from sleeping so that your setCPU profile and juicedefender are not doing anything most of the time.
as far as turning data off. You can receive SMS, you receive phone calls obviously, you can not download MMS or anything else requiring internet data. there is nothing wrong with turning it off when nothing use. (i personally use ultimate juice so that unless i have my screen on and unlocked or my phone is on the charger data is off.

Mind sharing your exact setup? Rom/kernel etc. Seems like your getting pretty good mileage.
I leave my phone on Wifi all day at home (no signal either, 1-2 bars) and battery drain is minimal now and it's not constantly looking for a data signal. I go approximately 30+ hours on 1 charge
I have the system paid app already. My problem is I have the worst reception where I live. Usually –105 to -118 and -120 I heard is no reception at all. So its more tower pulling and increasing voltage to get a reception. So I'm trying to do what I can to save a little battery...

Rooted stock, deodexed. Netarchy kernel. Have old airave at home for voice, and at home, I use WIFI. GPS doesn't seem to have that big of a drain
I was slightly incorrect, I do have setcpu profiles. Thought I had them off, but they are on, but NOT overclocked. For battery >75, or on power, default max, 384 min, conservative. Screen off, 384/384. Brightness is NOT high as I work in a well lighted workspace. Sometimes I do turn off WIFI tho. It'll fight with bt on occasion. Same freq. But usually it stays on. I do use phoneweaver for profiles. And I also use TASKER to create specific app profiles. IE turn on gps, wait 15 secs, start gps capable app, turn off when app closes, etc.
I also did the battery calibration "trick" and every now and then I clear the battery data from recovery. Not sure if that helps/matters or not.
I don't use the camera app, nor do I use friendstream. GTALK (known battery killer) is set to NOT running/syncing.
Is it great battery life? no, I'd say average. About what I'd expect. I'm not expecting 24 hours with it while using it and not recharging. When I'm out and about, I'll plug it in any chance I get, and also have spare battery or 3 from my TP2. For a full charge, I have an external battery charger. I was using the TP2 as a charger but don't trust it's charging circuits either (yet another HTC product. lol)
I just checked and I'm at 49% assuming the "battery guage" is accurate. 8 hrs to 49%. Few texts, another call, some more news, using TIKL. Time to plug it in and let it charge. But it was a nice test to see how long my normal use would last.
If your signal is that low (to the OP), try to get an airave, esp one of the newer ones with 3G/EV capability! I am going to call and ask if they'll replace my older one with the newer one.
I already thought of that option. Don't have internet here... downfall..

CM7 Battery life

Currently I have cm nightly 12 on my phone with incredikernel 2/27 and having a hard time finding this amaging battery life everyone is talking about.
I have screen brightness down and disable autosync using the power control widget. I have one widget, five icons and one screen. I have smartass governor on with 128/998 settings.
I also am using an extended life China battery. It had decent life with stock sense rom + incredikernel but still was not great.
Is it the battery? Is it my settings? Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

The batteries im using are 3500mah batteries i bought from ebay. I've been charging them occasionally in a wall charger.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My guess is that it is your battery. The OEM 1300mah battery that came with the INC is probably better than that crappy no-name brand. I have the stock, used incredikernel and i was able to get almost 2 full days out of it with CM7.
EDIT: saw you have the 3500mah, most likely that is only about 75% of what is advertised. So its probably about 2700mah. How much do you use the phone throughout the day?
Not much... Thru the week it stays in my pocket with screen off.
On the weekends I check dealnews and might get in a few minutes of angry birds... But its nowhere near the claims made of 20-40 hours of moderate use.
Feels like its jumping 3% with every web page.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I took it off the charger 5 minutes ago, down to 95% and battery usage states 72% is due to the display.
Went in there and turned off animations to see if that helps.
I also found out with clock work install awhile ago, I have an slcd screen. Im assuming they get worse battery life than amoled?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
No change .... now down to 90% and screen has been off.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It may just be that battery is really horrible. Do you still have your stock battery. Try using that and see the life you get out of it. I just have a feeling, no reason why, but that battery you got is a real dud.
And yes the SLCD screens do use up more power than the AMOLED screens. I don't know if it's that much, I doubt it, maybe try with the stock CM7 kernel and see what kind of life you get?
Bump charging, even if it's only for 20 minutes while you shower and shave and eat breakfast, will really help your battery life all day. I find that if I don't do it I see my battery losing its charge much faster even after it loses its initial 5-10%
Back on my stock battery... turned off or uninstalled everything I can.
I usually leave it on the charger all night while I sleep...
Thinking about returning to stock to see if that helps battery.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
What are your GPS settings? Is network location on? What about wifi is it on? If so what's your sleep policy set to. Both of these settings made my batterty drop like a brick on cm7. Another note have you used spare parts to see what is consuming your battery. Is it partial wake locks or a specific app.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
GPS off
Wifi on when I use it. I've got power control widget on my home screen. Network location is off. Wifi sleep policy is default choice (off when screen off), however I don't typically leave it on.
Haven't been in spare parts but have made it to a usage graph I didn't fully understand.
The usage I see says its all the screen. 72% display.
According to spare parts usage... over last 11m wifi has most battery usage.
Only one app with partial wake and that's craigslist Notifier. Lower than android system however.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Went back to stock cm7 kernel to see if ondemand governor is any better battery wise.
I'm still seeking this 20 hr's moderate use I keep hearing about.
Incredikernel seems to use more battery in wifi... stock is much lower.
Of course I don't know if this is fact with all the other variables.
I don't think I'm being greedy... just trying to find a setup which will afford me using my phone everyonce in awhile without living on a charger.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
!The display should be around that amount depending on how long its been running. I'm at 74% display and that with 2hr 42m of display on. It consumes the most amount of power of anything on the phone.
I've read a couple threads that cm7 has issues with the wifi sleep options and that it needs to be set to never for best battery life. At first thought it doesn't seem right be it helped me out.
In spare parts under usage stats anything jump out at you as being excessive. I doubt it but it'll let you know if an app is running to much.
Also look at the graph under setting battery if you a seeing a bunch of activity when the display is off then it could just be a lot of emails or something is syncing that we don't know about yet. If the display off and awake lines are close then you've done everything you can to Max out your battery.
At this point I suggest you try to bump charge the phone and then wipe the battery stats from cwm I was having an issue at first with cm7 n12 of my phone only charging to 94%. Maybe you are having a similar issue.
Just for comparison today was a mild day of usuage for me on the stock battery my phone has been on for 11h36m and as I said earlier a little under 3 hours of screen time. My display is around 35% brightness and I have 30% battery left. Also on a side note I'm using the incredikernel 128min and I'm under clocked to 800mhz.

4G Battery Drain

Hey, im on Telus so i dont have any other modes I can switch to to lower the drain. Ive noticed my battery drain is HORRENDOUS
Over the past 4 hours ive dropped 60%!
Now im wondering if im just running too many apps or if my stock battery may not be holding a proper charge anymore, and wanted to compare with others to see if others are running the same amount of apps and getting better battery or what
Ive got the following on:
Trillian (IM app)
K9-mail checking 2 aps
Regular Sync (Twitter, FB, Dropbox, Google(Calendar, Gmail, Contacts)
The battery usage summary seems to lie, 35% is the screen but only 13 minutes. Yet im at 40%
Android System at 20, Cell standby 13, Phone Idle 8
While heading to work, i ran DI Radio(music streaming), and lost 20% over around 35 minutes.
Im using the Tuesday rom with it's default kernel.
Is there anything I can do for better battery, because I dont have wifi in most places, and im running 3-4 bars constantly yet the phone just drains rentelessly. Even my Mugen battery was only lasting 16 hours...
It's quite possible that it's the ROM. I used to always get 8 hours on a single charge, regardless of location or ROM. I'm running Eugene's CM7 and I'm getting 13 hours on the same typical usage.
I'm running on Telus as well, with no wifi at all.
Although I am not running all of your apps, I would still consider myself a moderate to heavy user.

any syncing or usage of the network will take a drain. any usage.
you can always turn on airplane mode and let it sit a few hours and see the drain, that determines whether its network or a ROM/kernel drain.
But yes, using 4G has big battery cost
Battery Life
I will tell you what, I have wasted so many hours playing with different ROM's and what not to find the one with the best battery life. And I will tell you what, the DARKSIDE:IGITAL::WARFARE ROM's out do any other ROM out there. I dunno what it is that thederekjay is doing, but Samsung should get this guy on pay roll because his work is the best.
I'm at hour 8 today on Darkside Digital Warfare, and 70% free from 8am to 4:30pm. I have push corporate email, automatic brightness, friendcaster push, and a slew of accounts and it runs like a champ with amazing battery.
Make sure your phone is going into Deep Sleep as often as possible when screen is off. My phone seems to be extremely picky in regards to which charger it likes and more often than not (even had this happen on the stock charger) the phone refuses to sleep after being charged (even if only for a few seconds...).
Download CPUSpy from the market and after each charge, go to CPUSpy, press menu and Reset Totals (phone cannot enter Deep Sleep during charging so it's important you start fresh after a charge to get accurate sleep time). Turn the screen off for a minute or two and turn it back on. Press menu again and Refresh Totals. In my experience, if the phone is not sleeping at this point - Deep Sleep showing in Unused States - then it will not sleep all day and remain in 384Mhz for hours, killing the battery rather quickly. From then, if I plug the phone in a supported charger (even for a second) and disconnect, Deep Sleep resumes normally. Rebooting always fixes it too.
If, like me, a lot of people also have this problem with the stock charger as well, I bet many are dissatisfied with the battery performance... The phone is supposed to spend the majority of it's time in Deep Sleep. I get this issue with several different chargers and cables and on different ROMS / kernels (including stock... go figure).
Im pretty sure its the signal itself draining it. It uses sleep for at least 40% of the time its on. I use my phone a good amount, but its the fact that if it sits on 4g even with the screen of, its rapidly draining during this time. ive even reset timers and left it sitting for an hour and itll be in sleep but lose 8% over an hour just doing nothing. I still wanna be able to recieve notifications tho so turning off data isnt an option. I will test turning off data anyways to see if the drain stops.
The battery drain is all those persistent internet apps running. That is what you call heavy usage. Trillian and the FB app being the two biggest. Music streaming would be up there as well if you aren't in good signal area. Look at your battery stats and see what your signal strength is.

[Q] Whats your battery life like?

I haven't seen a battery life thread for the AT&T S3, so I'll start one.
Mine is around 13 hours with moderate use. I listen to podcasts for an hour in the morning (commute to work), read Pulse News and Facebook for about an hour at lunch, and listen to another hour of podcasts for the commute back home. By the time I get home, I'm around 13% life. I usually get the battery warning while listening to my podcast. In comparison, my GNex GSM gets 17 hours with the same use pattern. When I get home, I'm usually around 37%. Besides Samsung's and AT&T's bloatware, same apps, no widgets.
All told, I am very disappointed with battery life. I don't believe in underclocking my CPU in or disabling haptic feedback. I use the "Power Saver" mode, but only use the reduced screen power consumption feature (reduces framerates and brightness). WFI is always off (I don't have WIFI at work). I also disabled all of the Motion features. I disabled S-Voice (it monitors for the Hi Galaxy, and disabling also allows for a very responsive Home button).
I calculated my idle battery drain (unplugged when fully charged and not touch it) at around 4.4% per hour. That only gives 22.7 hours of standby! My Galaxy Nexus GSM can go at least 2 days (sometimes I forget to charge it at night on the weekends - also not used the phone).
Is it AT&T's LTE? Is it the Gsiff_daemon process? Is it TouchWiz? Or is it just my phone?
What's your battery life like?
You pretty much hit it right on the head. I had the extended battery from Samsung on my Gnex and could easily get 20 hours with moderate usage.
This phone despite using CM10 or AOKP with the JB kernel I never see battery life that good. I'm in the 14-15 hour range with about 3 hours of screen on time. That's with wifi off, and we don't have LTE yet. All in all, it isn't very good.

I average 32-38 hours with sleep and all. Usually around 8+ screen on time.

Stock? What features do you have turned off? Do you use WIFI exclusively? Do you turn off your data network (LTE/HSPA)? Did you turn off Sync?
I don't use WIFI, and I leave my data on (as it should be - just like I had it on my GNex). I also leave sync on. I understand that using these decrease battery life, but come on... not like this. The GNex faired very well, and it had a smaller battery. Besides LTE and an S4 (and the S4 should be more power efficient), there isn't much different between the GNex and the S3.
If I turn on the screen for 8 hours, there won't be enough for sleep time! It'll just die... if it even makes it to 8 hours...
20+ hrs with multiple accounts syncing at 1 to 2hr intervals, screen on time of average 4hrs. Heavy use. Wifi on all the time.
stock, rooted, debloated, super-aggressive power management I was getting maybe 12 hours with 2 hours screen time.
I saw you didn't believe in underclocking, but I started using Cpu Editor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798765 and am loving it, can do 16 hours and 4 hours of screen time with no problems, will do the trick for me.

That's nearly impossible. What's your setup? Fricken hate it when people post battery life without explaining what their setup is.

My battery life with stock battery sucked too. Att signal sucks where I leave and waste 30% battery in that alone everyday. I got the Hyperion extended battery and loving it. Currently at 70% when usually I would be at 45-50%.

I hate to be "that guy" but I have a hard time believing anything close to this is even possible. Can you show us a pic of your battery stats?
Just use cpu tuner, It has profiles for each level of battery life so it gradually slows down your cpu's. You can get performance and bat' life.
Check it out
my battery drains a lot when i'm on wifi even when my screen isn't on. I get on average 14 hours running 1.4 GHz
You have a faulty radio.
I consistently get 40+ hours off charger with 4-5 hours screen on time with a couple hours of browsing, 3-4 hours of music, texts, an hour of calls or so, playing casual games for another hour.
Stock. No hacks. No root. Disabled all unnecessary carrier and samsung apps and disabled GPS unless i need it. Auto brightness, 2 hours sync for weathereye, flipboard and gmail syncing all the time. I do mostly use Wifi at home because my signal at home is bad and that quickly drains my battery. At work my phone idles for eight hours at a 2-3 % loss with 3G on (i use my old SIM, i do not have an LTE plan, I am on Rogers Wireless).

You consistently (or have ever got) get 40+ hours off charger with 4 to 5 hours of screen time? Do you have your phone hooked up to a car battery?
I just factory reset (wiped data and cache) the phone and installed the apps I need (maybe something was badly configured or something) - did that yesterday night. Charged it up for this morning, and now I got 18 hours and still have 17% left. Screen on time says 1:38 hours.
This is on the same stock rooted and deodexed ROM. No hotboots either, so gsiff_daemon didn't rear it's ugly head.
Also no CPU Sleeper or any of these underclocking apps. I'm happy now, but wondering wtf was causing the problem... and will it happen again (after all, this is only day one).
I'm getting about 13 hours with 5 and a half hours of screen time. Underclocked to 1.2ghz and I have my own screen off profile. Great battery in my opinion

Phone finally died. Just over 19 hours. Heavy use towards the end because I was downloading and installing the rest of my apps from Google Play & Amazon App Store. Was also setting the apps up ( accounts, settings, and notifications...). Final screen on time was about 2 hours.
It's only been two days since I've had the phone, I've gotten about 14 hrs with roughly 3.5 hrs screen on time. I hate when I see people with 2 days off the charger and ridiculous screen on time. If you put the phone in airplane mode and ran just the screen you probably wouldn't last 10 hrs unless it was on low brightness. I had the Razor Maxx and I could get around 30 hrs usage with 4-5 hrs talk and 6 hrs screen on and that's the best battery life I've ever gotten on any phone with real usage.
I would like to get better stand by and more screen time out of this phone without getting an extended battery.

Nope. Stock battery. May be some of you have faulty batteries/radios/firmwares or run too much stuff at the same time.

No airplane mode. Cellular connection is always on even during the night. Only difference is at home i have wifi on instead of data.
Flipboard, weathereye and an appsales app syncing every 4 hours. Auto sync for google account and facebook. Automatic brightness. Almost all samsung and Rogers apps disabled (except for myaccount and a couple samsung apps) and motion disabled since i have no use for the gestures apart from being a novelty the first week.
No root. No hacks. I am actually amazed. This is the first android phone that has battery life on par with my iPhone 4 and the unparalleled smoothness. My HTC One X lagged, this never does even with a few apps installed now including games. I look at my iPhone and think "why do i still keep it? It is no longer relevant".
Ive got my UV tweaked just right on my ktoonez kernel and keeping my screen level as low as can be and I'm now practically making it to TWO days battery life! Plug in every second afternoon or evening after moderate use. Occasionally it doesn't last as long. Quite happy now. Oh and that's with this baby cranked to 1.809Ghz! But obviously tweaked to use that under strain otherwise using lower clocks and deep sleeping with 384mhz.
Got a 4200mah extended battery on way and can't wait to see how much I can squeeze out of it too.

My GS3 i747m lasts around 50-55 hours per charge cycle..
It is running stock Rogers GS3 ICS, not rooted, all stock. Battery is stock as well.
Not using LTE, using HSPA+ ("4G") with data turned ON with Sync turned OFF
(**NOTE: sometimes, the battery is drained due to poor reception, and the phone will use more power for the cellular signal.. In my case, my 3G connection in my area seems alright for the most part, about 1 bar less from full)
Power saving is turned ON. WiFi powersave is turned ON.
Moderated WiFi usage in 2.4ghz 802.11g-mode only.
Every night when I go to sleep, my flight mode is turned ON. (I sleep around 9-10 hours everyday, so the phone stays on flight mode for 9-10 hours a day)
In the morning, I turn the flight mode OFF.
Bluetooth, GPS both are turned OFF
Screen brightness turned 1/4 brightness
LED notification turned OFF
Also, I have a task killer killing ALL BACKGROUND SERVICES every half hour.
Without killing all the background apps, my RAM usage is around 600-700 MB out of 1.6 GB of RAM
Killing all the background apps brings the RAM usage to around 360 MB of 1.6 GB
Without killing background apps, my battery life is shortened even when the phone is on standby.
Do this, and your battery life is pretty good..
