[Q] Stuck in Clockworkmod backup - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to backup my stock rom before flashing another, but I can't seem to make it past the beginning of backup in clockworkmod. It goes to "Backing up system..." and then the file it's backing up and just stops.
The phone isn't frozen because it responds when I press the power button, but it seems to be just stuck on the early stages of backing up.
I have almost 5 gb left in my sd card and I'm running clockwork 3.0.0.5. Any ideas?

i've been getting some weird **** like that since going to 3.0.0.5 .. id freezes on some stuff like wiping data and dalvik.. and had the backup freeze too..

I'm trying to downgrade back to the previous version.. will report back if it's better

Went back to 2.5.1.2 (only one I could download online, rom manager wouldn't let me go to 2.5.1.4) and it worked. So my suggestion is to go back.

Trying to restore a backup with clockwork mod recovery

hello I just replaced a broken EVO and now that it is rooted I am trying to restore my old backup from my previous evo.. I am having a problem though
I go through all the normal process to restore a backup and everything works fine the super user permission pops up and the phone reboots but instead of rebooting directly into the reboot session it just boots me into the clockwork mod recovery recovery menu.. when i select the folder the recovery files are located in it shows up blank.. what am I doing wrong here? In the past when I selected to restore a backup from inside the os it just rebooted and started restoring automatically.. I feel like an extra step has now been added and I dont know what it is?
I should also not that while I do not know if it is related or not when I try to restore the backup from the nandroid section of the recovery menu it hangs on checking md5 sums and then says error while flashing boot image!
mind you this is on 2 separate backups I created in the past with clockwork mod recovery
It's probably not a good idea to use an old nandroid backup on a new phone. Think of how kernels run well on some EVO phones and not others. Your current phone might even be one of the EVOs with new hardware.

ok but can I still get all my apps and data back?
it would be terrible to lose all of that
and now to make matters even worse my phone is stuck on an endless loop on clockwork mod recovery I every time I select reboot system now instead of it booting into the stock rooted rom it just reloads the clockwork mod recovery menu.. what gives?
yeah, not good to load a backup from a different phone. This has been documented as happening. Just reflash whatever rom you want then radios then kernel. Sorry but if you didn't use a backup prog I thinkyou will have to manually restore apps. You may want to try titanium backup, solves the problem, use it and follow the backup instructions in Titanium backup wiki on their web site and you should be good to go next time.
Did you try a battery pull and reboot?

Nandroid backups are phone specific, you can't move them from phone to phone. You probably hosed your RSA keys which means your 4g may be broke. If I were you I would try to flash a stock rom and then reroot if needed. If that gets you out of the bootloop your in. You maybe visiting a Sprint store for a replacement phone again.
guys I could really use some help here please!
I went back to the stock rooted rom today.. all day I was adding apps making changes restarting the phone no problems.. I finally get my phone set up how I like it so I decided it was a great time to make a backup so I open clockwork mod recovery and select backup it gives me the superuser permissions prompt and restarts.. instead of starting the backup automatically it sends me directly to the clockwork mod recovery menu and now it will not load the phone's OS at all just reboot after reboot into clockwork mod recovery this is a 1 day old evo what is going on here!!??

Hey that exact thing happened to me. it happened the first time i ever loaded anything on my phone. I freaked out. Turned out the Clockword mod recovery I had must have had something wrong. I went back into the part where you load the CWM from the computer. My phone is different than yours so I cant be sure but you go into bootloader by pressing stuff, its where the logo stays there the whole time. then you flash the CWM again. and then reload the operating system and stuff. should work but just redo the CWM again. Hope it works out for you. Hope thats what it is for you too.

Issues restoring backup

So got my G2 today, rooted, installed Hboot, started up the phone, logged into all my accounts, got stuff how I wanted. Made a backup via Clockwork.
Then I tried out CM7 Nightlies, decided its pretty good but I wanted to go back to my backup. Loaded into Clockwork hit recover, picked my backup. The phone then just sits on the HTC screen. Never going to the G2 screen or getting back into the OS. I can't get a logcat from it either to see if it is crashing. I can get back into recovery, and flash another rom, but why isn't my backup of my original image working? There are no errors when restoring, I've tried a few times.

If you are using CM7, does this mean you upgraded to one of the CWM3 recoveries? Not sure if this has changed, but backups made with the older CWM2 recoveries are not compatible with CWM3. You will need to reflash back to the older recovery before restoring your backup (pretty sure there are lots of warnings about this in the CWM3/CM7 threads, so you should probably check those out to see if this is no longer the case).
I used CWM3 to make the backup, i assumed that would work to restore it.
EDIT: Okay. so CWM3 can't handle ANY Froyo, regardless of if the backup was made with it. Misunderstood that part. Flashed to CWM32 and it worked. Thanks.

Oops... something went wrong!

Oops... something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!
Here is what happened...
1. Made nandroid backup of my Calkulin ROM using AMON_RA recovery
2. Flashed MIUI which I used for couple days
3. Decide to restore my phone... got error from the top (Oops something went wrong)
4. Decide to flash same Calkulin ROM version that I had before
5. Tried restore backup (thinking - I am on same rom should not be a problem)
6. Got error msg from top
7. Wipe everything
8. Flash Amon_RA again
9. Tried restore.. error
10. Flash Calkulin again
11. Tried restore.. have same error
Now... how do I restore my backup?
Check your memory available on your sdcard...may not be enough space for the backup. Or, the restore file might be corrupted.
4.36 GB free space... I used this backup for restore before and it worked. Now it doesn't.
Let me try other restore file (i have 3 backup's) Will post results.
-Stands by-
2nd backup worked but I still want last one... Might have idea what went wrong...
Testing something
Backup that worked was untouched and never used. Other one that was used at least 3 times now it doesn't working and it was renamed. I tried to use original name but even that did not fix anything. Will keep trying
RA sometimes glitches out, try flashing clockwork then back to RA.

Tried.. same thing again. I guess 1 backup is not to be trusted and I should be happy that I have any. Will try all of them now.
what does the recovery log show? You can find it at /cache/recovery/recovery.log or by using the move to sd option from the recoveries other menu.
ive had this error when my battery was low

Strange, /cache/recovery is empty, nothing inside.
What have you figured out? I'm still having the same problem every time I try to do a nandroid back up it tells me Oops...something went wrong, to check recovery log!
What could it be and how do I fix it so I can do a back up??
Nothing, I had another (older) backup and used that one. Only I can suggest that:
1. you make sure that Amon RA is same version
2. don't trust to one backup in future

you can also check you recovery log as someone else mentioned. in amon ra/other/move recovery.log to sd. use any file manager to open it. it should tell you what maybe happening.

[Q] ROM Manager Backups Failing

Everytime I back up with ROM Manager it completes and when I do a restore it goes to my lock screen then goes back to the CM7 splash screen.
Is there a way I can verify my back ups? Any idea what is going wrong here or how to fix it? Using CWM 3.0.0.8

I'm using CM7 as well, and CWM3.0.0.7. You can use root explorer, or equivelant, and check in /sd card/clockworks/backups. If the backup worked properly it should be listed in there. Also, I have found it more reliable to go into recovery and do the backup manually from there.
Also, when you restore/flash, it's a very good habit to do a full wipe first. That is possibly the problem you are having when you restore.

I am doing full wipes. The backups are there. Like I said it restores up until my lock screen then just goes back to the CM7 boot loader. I can't figure it out for the life of me.

Had this problem. Had to do Advanced Restore one-by-one.

So I think I solved the problem. My SD card needed to be reformatted. Did a backup/restore and it worked fine this time. I guess they just have to be reformatted every once in a while?

Can´t restore nandroid backup

Hi there,
I encountered a weird issue.
I was using robocik´s Expresso HD ROM for CM7 hboot.
Yesterday I wanted to try the latest ReflexS ROM. So, I did a nandroid backup using AmonRa and installed it.
After some playing around I did a nandroid backup of that one, too and wanted to go back to my old Expresso ROM.
But after like one minute of restoring I got a failure message.
Don´t remember the exact text but it was something like "...perform [..] via adb".
I guess the backup was corrupt and wanted to restore the Reflex ROM which went fine until I had to reboot. The phone got stuck in the bootscreen (the why so serious one) and nothing happened.
So, I thought there was a problem with AmonRa (I wasn´t too convinced by this recovery anyway) and decided to go back to CWM and reinstall everything from the root.
Long story short: I can flash zips from sd card including ROMs and I am able to back them up. But I just can´t restore them.
Well, I can restore them but got stuck at the Why-so-serious screen.
Any hints on what I could do? (Besides staying with one ROM and not using nandroid again of course.)
Here is a how to for restoring(performing) nandroid backup via adb:

Thanks for this...but I already know how to do that.
I am looking for a solution on how to make my recovery-restore work again.
(Should have made that clearer.)
It really looks like AmonRa was a bit buggy. At least for me.
But I made a mistake. I changed to the latest CWM recovery instead of sticking to the older one that always worked for me.
Now that I am back to this one everything is working again.
