I have tried emulators for NES, SNES, GBA, Genisis, and ScummVM on my wife's Cliq. They all run at pretty decent speed, GBA has some slowdown with sound on. ScummVM works well in WinMo too though...
The only app you need to install is Alchemy. Very fun. You start off with 4 elements, and combine them to make hundreds of new elements.
Earth + Water = Swamp, Air + Fire = Energy. Energy + Swamp = Life. Like + Fire = Fire Elemental... etc.

Hey Everyone...I haven't been around these parts often, but I conceived a pretty good idea [I think]...
My friend recently got a Droid phone, and of course he was flaunting it to me...I love Android, honestly...but I love Windows Mobile too. SO! I thought "Why not merge the best of both worlds?"
Well obviously, I cannot make windows look 100% like Android...that would take tooooooo long. So instead, I thought "What about the Task Switcher!"
So I introduce to you, CTaskManager
Right now it is just a P.o.C (Proof Of Concept), but I have done my research and found pretty much all the API calls I will need [minus one or two, but I'll find those]. It will be fully in C++, and if I can get it working correctly, will be activated by the HOME button.
Attached is a proof of concept image [100% Photoshopped, not real at all].
In any case, this is how I forsee it working:
This will appear on top of any window
Activated by pressing [and holding?] HOME
1st Box will always be the Home Screen
2nd Box will always be the current Window (unless it is the HomeScreen)
You can switch between apps with 2 easy Clicks
First Select the Number of the Dialog
Second, Press CENTER or SPACE to switch to it, or press DEL to quit that app
The program's layout will vary depending on the number of Open Windows
Should be light, fast, and easy to use
Hopefully, since I forsee this to be a really easy project, I will have a release by later today! I am making it for my Excalibur users FIRST, because I owe it to this whole forum [And because I will be switching to an HD2 this upcoming monday, and I want to start a project up for a phone I use NOW]
-Until Later: CycloneZephyrxz7
sweet...thanks..will wait for your release and then will added to the sticky.
I am very pleased that the ONLY component I have yet to get working is getting the screen captures [and window titles]. I need to investigate this ... For some reason, I am getting the same window drawn OVER and OVER again. I think it is because the window handle I am getting from some of the methods is invalid...Its very odd ... I have to figure it out. I should be able to do this winthin the next hour or so
seems cool so its like a multitasker? or somthing

Exactly.
So this is the update:
I got the program to run on Home-Key Press ... Now I am going to just modify it and add a timer or something to get it to run on Home-Key Long Press [since just a press interferes with Smart ToolKit]
An odd bug I have encountered is that when I run this, and wait, the Smart Toolkit taskbar shows up (as it should), and the whole phone locks up...I think it is because both are competing for Keyboard privilages. [I have to use a Keyboard hook to get this working, and it is all undocumented APIs]
I have yet to get the actual Task part working Haha. I can't confirm whether or not it is working, because for some reason my Debugger is acting weird, and all the images are of the current screen. As it turns out, it is impossible to take a snapshot of a minimized / partially visible screen. It will take the screen coordinates, and take a picture of whatever is there right now. I will get that fixed [I am talking to another Dev to see if he will let me in on how he does it in his task manager].
I got the "back" key escape working. Relatively simple.
I have planned out Layouts. Such that when you have JUST the HomeScreen open, it will NOT run. When you have the HomeScreen and 1 OTHER window open, the two will be split on the screen [Maybe make each like 150x113]. When you have 3 to 4 total windows (Including HomeScreen), they will make a 4-quadrant layout. Where each will be around [120x90]. When you have 4 - 6 open, each will be [92x69] (as shown in the ScreenShot) and have a 6-block layout. When you have more than 6 (if that is possible on the Excalibur haha), it will make a second page, and the second page will adapt to however many excess processes there are.
I have to work on getting the Translucent Background working ... that shouldn't be too hard, I just have yet to look into it {I think I have to use AlphaBlend or TransparentBlt}.
In any case, there is actually very little that doesn't work yet haha, but of course it is the most essential parts that don't work.
I will keep you all updated
sweet
looking forward to this, my phone will live on!!!
Thanks to a bunch of help from another Dev, I confirmed that getting the image of a non-visible window is IMPOSSIBLE on windows mobile. [Although it gives me an idea to try to 'fix' that haha ... maybe after this]. In any case, I think I have figured out how to do it. Tomorrow I will write up the code, test it, and hopefully have an Initial release.
The way I see it the releases will be as follows:
1) Initial Release [Basic]
2) Fix-Up of any Bugs
3) Add some Effects
4) Add some customizations
5) Fix-Up of any Bugs
6) FINAL
Hopefully, I can do this in 6 or less releases [And in the meanwhile, adapt it to work on my new HD2 i will get on Monday ]
*PS: For those of you following my projects: Once I get my HD2, I am going to make a fixed up release of FFP_LS, and then open-source it. Thereafter, i won't work much on it anymore. This is so I can start working on my SUPER-HUGE project called "CMessage" ... Here are the contents of the 'sticky note' i have on the desktop reminding me of it:
Suite of Programs:
1. Transport DLL (Send/Receive SMS/MMS/EMail)
2. T-Mail.exe Client (Compose/View SMS/MMS/EMail)
3. Notifier (When new Message Arrives, Display Alert)
4. A new DLL for the HomeScreen [it probably won't be compatible with the old one]
5. API Docs (For future use and adaptation)
6. Sample Programs (I.E. HomeScreen Panel, SMS Games, etc.)
7. Filter Rules Program
8. Macro Program (Get Message ... Do Action)
9. Environment Set-Up DLL/Exe [Cache Contacts, create Message Stores, transfer over old stuff, etc. etc.]
It is going to be a VERY large project. Hopefully, it will also be a very successful one Say bye-bye to CE MAPI?

can't wait!
This program is actually bugging me...haha [get the joke?].
In any case, it is becoming rather tough to get this actually working. Correction: To get it working efficiently. The dev making the 3D iManager app over in the Development/Hacking forum told me how he is doing it, but to me it just seems terribly inefficient (every 5 seconds, check for Foreground Window....LOTS OF BUGS). In any case, I am using a registry notification now, since Windows Mobile has a value that tells me the currently active program and the previously active program [and it updates!] ... this works out because then I can take a screenshot of the new-ly active program, AND check to see if the old one was minimized or closed. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working as I would have hoped.
I don't have much time today for developing [Hooray for a 50 Page AP Government Outline] ... so I will probably get back to this tomorrow [NEW PHONE], or maybe tonight if I get a really good idea/inspiration to finish this!

keep the good work man and again thanks for your effort in developing new stuff for the dash.
Cheers,
So I finished my work
But that isn't pertinent to this forum. What it does mean is that I can work on my developing for today!
Counter-to-my-prior-plan, I am going to release a pretty flawed version of the program ... errr ... rather an Alpha that will run much less efficiently than the final product.
I hate announcing a project, thinking it will be easy, then taking forever with it ... so this is what I am going to do:
I will use the same timer-based approach that iManager 3D uses, but I might make it update more often [3 second intervals maybe] ... it won't be AT ALL battery efficient, but it should be pretty memory efficient. It will serve as NO MORE THAN A PROOF OF CONCEPT OF WHAT THE FINAL PRODUCT WILL BE. The final product should not have a major impact on battery life, and should leave the end user unaware that it is actually running when it is!
I am re-installing Visual Studio because it has been acting up, but once that is done, I should be able to pump out an ALPHA VERSION.
EDIT: Computer Issues ... Expect a release in the coming days. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Great! This sounds awesome! And yeah, we finally get more interests and development in non-touch devices! Good luck with building the program and don't forget to contact the News-Writers when it's ready!
This is actually quite upsetting ... I tried re-installing Visual Studio, because it was no longer giving me the 'code suggestions' for C++ ... [like if I typed in a function, it didn't tell me what the parameters were] ... and now it isnt set up for Windows Mobile 6 Standard/Pro anymore. So i tried reinstalling those SDKs .... no joy....I am going to uninstall EVERYTHING OF IT and start all over [backing up my projects of course ].
Hopefully I will get my computer in working condition by tonight.
I got my new HD2 [TMOUS] today I am very happy with it already. BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP ON MAKING THINGS FOR THE DASH. Non-TouchScreen phones are highly under-appreciated, and I hate that so much [let alone the fact that WinMo is underappreciated] .... I NEED YOUR IDEAS TO MAKE THIS PHONE [Exca] BETTER! So toss me a PM with even the wildest Ideas, and I will try to figure something out

vNESLight 1.0 is now live, bringing a redesigned GUI, new controls, improved save states and much more. It has also been split up into a fully functional ad-supported free version and a paid version (vNESLight Pro) without ads. Unfortunately that means the xap file will no longer be available for sideloading. Both versions should be up in all of the marketplace regions by the end of the week.
vNESLight (free): http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=3d8e51b8-1884-4aa7-bb2c-2eda47745a27
vNESLight Pro (paid): http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=11ff7758-04ea-42d9-b012-55f90de82b10
Version 1.0 features - 1-April-2012
- Completely new and improved controls + portrait support
- SkyDrive integration
- Fully featured jump list for all your games
- Fast and fluent multiple save states system (swipe to change slot)
- Backup and restore your save states via SkyDrive
- Pin any game to the start screen
- Auto detects the best settings for your device
- Experimental Hardware Keyboard support
- The demo ROMs of Battle Kid 2 and Super Bat Puncher are included
Method 1 for adding games: (SkyDrive)
1) Get ROMs, don't ask me where. (use GoodNES branded ROMs if u have issues with invalid files)
(Optional) zip, or rar all your ROM files to more easily add a batch of games at once.
2) Login to https://skydrive.live.com/, you can use any Live account u like xbox, hotmail etc.
3) Upload said zip/rar file or nes games to SkyDrive.
4) Hit the + icon inside vNESLight, hit sign in to SkyDrive and navigate to your zip/rar or nes file then just tap on it to add the game(s).
Method 2: (via webserver, or direct link from dropbox)
1) Upload the files to your webserver (or dropbox)
2) Hit the + icon inside vNESLight and enter the full link into the Url box and hit add. Support for zip, rar and nes files.
As always thanks for all the feedback and testing done.

Aye still waiting for the invite e-mail for the Mango rom update, but I've already installed the new tools.
Currently pushing about 20-25 fps without sound atm, it's abit lower with sound.
Will be great to actually do some profiling on real hardware.

Yeah, actually more or less done with the beta version for Mango already, you can seamlessly switch back and forth between the game thanks to the new multitasking.
I'm just trying to figure out how I'm gonna do the UI for the Nodo version.
As for the age old question on how to add roms to the app;
What I've come up with so far is, first you add all your rom files to a zip file called "nesgames.zip" then you open the xap file of the emulator in winzip (or another zip manager).
Finally you can just drag the "nesgames.zip" file into winzip to replace the standard "nesgames.zip" file and voila all your roms are added easily.

Sadly it didn't really, but it's helped a great deal by beeing able to performance test on a actual device.
I'll get the Mango beta version up in a couple of hours, just need clean up a couple of things.
Ok, just wanted to bump the thread to let u guys know that the beta version for Mango is out:
http://nudua.net/files/vneslightbeta1.xap
Check out the first post for more details (Update #2).
Awesome. Going to download and try it out.
Very nice for the first beta. I'm getting about 26-30 FPS on the games I've tried so far on my Focus running Mango beta 2.
Pros:
I like the way you add games to the XAP.
Multi-tasks
Pretty fast
Cons:
Controls
If you reopen the app (via icon) while its running, it relaunches it from the start. I remember seeing a command that you can add that will make it open like it does from the multitask window.
One thing to note. I saw a post about mango got rid of the 30 FPS limit by adding a new line in the program. But I can't remember if it was just for XNA games or if it included silverlight. Not sure if this would help your or not.
Very good work so far!
Yeah the controls are extremly basic, will definitely make them work a lot better.
Gonna check into resuming the app while it's still running, sounds like a much better way.
Tried getting rid of the 30fps limit, but the problem lies with the cpu, can't run the logic fast enough.
Cheers for the feedback
I submitted this to WMPU and they have an article about it. Hopefully this will get ya some more feedback.
I've been messing with the emulator more and it runs much better than the other NES emulator.

Cool cool, yeah I originally checked out that sharpnes based emulator myself, but getting something like that up to par would be a lot of work, considering the original project is so incomplete.
I'm currently checking out various ways to speed up the code even more.
I got my trophy unlocked pretty much just for this... Do you have a list of games tha run fine or is there issues with some games ?

Since this is a port of mature emulator called VirtualNES, most of the mappers (MMC's) needed to play are already done, so most games should work just fine.
The only problem game I've seen so far has been with Kid Dracula, but it's pretty easy to modifiy any single mapper.
But keep in mind, this is still a very early beta.

Most of the games I've tried run fine. Maniac Mansion doesn't display properly in some parts, but I've seen the issue in many emulators.
I see the controls on the first page, I don't have a QWERTY keyboard on mine, is there on-screen controls for this ?
Also for adding/removing games, why don't you look into the USBdriver option ( HERE ). There is addon (works with Nodo and mango) where you can use your WP7 device as a USB drive (same folders as music and pictures), you can create a NESROMS folder in there and anyone could manually add or remove games with out re-deplying the app, just by connecting with USB and closing Zune.
Please hit thanks if this helped !

The controls in the emulator are touch only, as for the controls mentioned in the post at the top are for the Silverlight 4 version, I'll clean up the original post so there's no confusion.
USBdriver looks pretty interesting, but I really don't want to complicate things.
And there's no reason why you can't add your ~50 most favorite NES games from the get go.
I am trying to see if anybody in this thread would like to start developing a beginning to a Windows Phone "Jailbreak App store" meaning that the whole cummunity of homebrew apps could all be in one place. As I am aware to jailbreak ios and install "Cydia" you must hold the power and home button in a certain order. Since all Windows phones have the power button, unlock, and volume I think that this could work if a similar process like what is done in ios will be done with windows phone since they are both closed source operating systems. I am not a developer I truely dont know all the details of how something like this could work. I am asking if the whole Windows phone cummunity could work together and get this going.
Thanks
Maybe XDA-DEV could manage the server so it would grow fastly if every dev who post his app in the thread automaticly to the appstore but only final realeases or only apps who cant brick the device. Cool idea but to let a server work cost money and who pays it ?

The whole Windows Phone cummunity could pay for the servers together. Maybe there could be some awesome paid homebrew apps in there that could supply money for the server.
Xda doesn't support piracy.

I don't support the "crack paid apps" either.
My ideas for these "alternative marketplace" is for those developers/hobbies to make their apps and allow others to use it.
I don't mind the "homebrew" apps is chargable, coz if you look at some apps in Cydia, it also have some apps which chargable due to that app is rejected by Apple.
Same thing goes here. M$ need developer to pay USD99 to get an account, with each FREE apps posted charge for USD25! This will highly PUSH away the developers.
Further more, NOT all regions/countries are supported by M$ marketplace (like my country are not).
So this is a good alternative for developers to post their app.

Thanks this is to be a WP7 cydia no piracy involved at all. I am trying to get this started and hoping that we start somewhere.

actuly we have one in develpment alredy!
actuly we have one in develpment alredy!
we are curently making it only for cab updates but i dont see why we couldent impement this
as me and winco are alredy working on wcabsender and he has alredy made beta version of W.I.N.C.O.'s XapAssistant v.0.5.0
we have to make web server for cab files and such anyway i dont see why xaps would be any diffrent why pay more than one server when we could just have one and let it self make money!??
i gess pm me with detales if you like i will look them over!
seams like a nice alternitive

This is great news I would like for some of the developers to take over this.
anyone want to just start and alternative marketplace for homebrew and everything else?
Sounds like an amazing idea. Microsoft don't allow apps that promote voice plans, would be nice to have an alternative store to list a full version of my app (it allows you to buy and remove value packs for 2° of which some are voice packs)
I am / was working on a homebrew Marketplace aswell. The listing and downloading of XAPs is not the problem. You just Need a small search algorithm and a database to search and find the apps but the big Problem is installing them. Unless you have the DFT (I guess it was them) ROM that allows XAPs installed directly from the web, you wont be able to install any XAP on the device.
Cool thats my 111th post

You are right! This the biggest issue!
I guess I could start working on the Store again. I guess it will be done in a few days.
Will allow downloading XAPs, updating them, browsing them. The installing part would have to be made by one of the WP7 hackers - as soon as this is sorted out (as said, it partly is) the store can go online

not realy an issue because the wcabsender program we are working on
will have an esaly updateable data base of servers listed for cab files the list will be a file called CabData.xml wich we are curently wrighing
it curently contains links to all of xbmods cab files so the program will download and up date your phone and make the hole process very simple
insted of downloading them one buy one and usein wp7 cab sender, bat file
anyway teh cabs can contain up to 60 .xap files and or other content not just apps but content for custom updates to actuly modify the os it self!
users are alredy able to make custom updates much like a carrer would adding addisional features such as new wallpapers ring tones accent colors and even more!
so say we had a new custom game.cab that would incluude not only the new game .xap but also new ringtones & walpapers and assents from teh game or even custom icons for your default icons so your hole phone could look like the new game you just got sorta like premeum themes for on the xbox360 dashbord!
the store is made up of servers from he list and auto updated and loged with in the program you could tecnicly upload your xap to anyware and simple send me the url to add to the server list right now and the store would be opened at teh time of beta relese of our program! our program is close to beta relese but we still have much work to be done on it if you want to get involved please pm me i have more art to do and winco has more code to wright we do not curently even have all of the online avalible cab urls listed in the CabData.xml thare are curently about 10 just for testing!
we ar the only to people working on this project with the okay from xbmod as he is aware of what weare up to but im in the us and winco is in slovika and dose not speak good english infact has to translate everyhang i send him and he dosent get most of my notes teh hole consept was thought up of teh back to the future rom v2 and winco has never even seen teh move he dosent quite grasp teh consept but has managed to make the program a reality not theamed exactly how i had in mind but never the less my idia is now a reality soon to be relesed we could realy use some help with a couple more members on bord we could surely use the help! to get thangs done and out quicker we both have other projects as well and we are both in difrent time zones wich makes thangs even more diffucult winco dosent have time to browse teh forms or post updates like i do!
hes just to bizzy and to be honist so am i!
the offical wcabsender development thread is in the hd2 section please post thare! or pm me! if you have any talent services or advice to offer!

But that Thing is on the Desktop side, right?
Most (atlease for me) would like to see the xap file direct install thru air to the phone, instead of go thru the desktop.
ofc, but if I got their idea right its a Desktop app that allows sending CABs to the phone
EDIT: Found a faster and cleaner way!
You guys who run tablets that have uber tiny amounts of storage (e.g. 32gb dell venue 8 pro) might want to do this as it will free up space used by apps that you probably don't even touch. You can always just install any you want to keep from the Windows store, but personally I think 8 apps are all crap (except Netflix.)
Click start > type 'powershell' (no quotes) > press ctrl+shift+enter > (say yes if it asks)
Type the following:
Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online
Get-AppXPackage | Remove-AppxPackage
Tada! No more useless built in Windows apps taking up disk space, and new user accounts don't start with a cluttered start menu.
If you're like me and you keep an autoconfigure batch script for new installations, you can accomplish the above with the following lines:
powershell -Command "Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online"
powershell -Command "Get-AppXPackage | Remove-AppxPackage"
Guessing this works with RT as well, but it's a sad OS that I wouldn't ever buy, so I can't test.
(Old post sticking around for archival purposes)
I never use these things. I don't like apps that force full screen when it is really unnecessary. I guess it makes sense for a touch screen, but for a desktop this is downright stupid, especially when you have a big monitor and like working with multiple things at once. Anyways, I noticed that these take up a gig of space, and I am on an SSD, so space is precious. Sadly, uninstalling them from the start menu doesn't actually delete them, in fact it's really no different at all from using the unpin from start option.
Simply navigating to that folder to delete them doesn't work. First you'll claim ownership via the UI, and then it will at least let you browse the folder. I tried taking it a step further and using the universal "take all" method from an admin prompt:
d:\windows\program files\> icacls windowsapps\* /T /C /Grant UsersOI)(CI)(MA)
It failed. So I figured, let's try rebooting to the command console and do the same thing. Success! Well, not really.
If you type del windowsapps, it pretends to delete them, but it doesn't actually do so. Microsoft is clever, they really went out of their way to make sure you keep them and like them! So I took it a step further, I tried the same thing from WinPE by booting from the install disk, hitting the repair button, and navigating to the command shell. Same result as above. Microsoft REALLY wants to make sure they remain intact.
Fortunately though, I have an ace up my sleeve. I booted a linux ISO, mounted the partition, and did an rm -rf WindowsApps, and lo and behold, its gone! You see, linux doesn't really care if you keep metro apps, it just does whatever you tell it to.
By the way, I did this inside of a VM just to make sure that it doesn't break anything, and so far, it doesn't appear to do so. The apps still remain in the start menu (if you didn't unpin them) but launching them just returns right back to the start menu. No worries, just unpin them and it will stay out of sight and out of mind.
Something confuses me though...the live tiles for these apps still actually work. At least, the live tiles for news, finance, and travel still work, but launching the app just drops you back to the start menu. My guess is that the live tile portion of the app runs in another process. Somebody who is more familiar with WinRT could chime in here. Also, the useless windows store and some important things like the desktop app and the "pc settings" app (aka metro control panel) remains intact, so no issues there.
Anyways, I'd like to figure out a way to delete these while windows is still running, that way I can automate doing so when I install windows. Any ideas? My current thought is to remove them from the install.wim, but it's kind of a PITA and often something goes wrong when I try to muck with that.
Thanks for the info. I won't be able to do the research until the weekend, but in searching for windows 8 (non-Microsoft) themes, I found info on a program (I hate that all of a sudden all programs are being called 'apps') which lets you take (for real) ownership if system files. The info where I ran into it's usage was because Windows 7 and 8 need either hacked system files (guess having a hacked 7 with legit license was a great idea) or a special program to load a custom theme.

Out of curiosity, what built-in apps did you find to be un-deleteable? Removing the built-in apps that I didn't use (Finance, News, etc.) was easy; just right-click or flick downward (to select the tile) then select Uninstall. Leftover files in the WindowsApps dir could be removed.

The built in apps that it places on the start menu when you first log in to Windows 8. It prevents you from deleting them, because then new accounts won't see the apps, and it forces them on to the start menu by default.
You can delete them from Start easily enough, if for some reason you find their presence there offensive. You can also delete the updated versions from the device. The basline (1.2) versions are, I assume, what you are complaining about... meh. If you want to bang your head against this, go ahead. I get what you're asking for now, though I really don't understand why. Besides, full-screen or not, some of the "Metro" apps are pretty good, especially a few of the games (which are frequently FS anyhow). It's worth keeping the store around for free game downloads IMO... but I think we've already established that our opinions differ on how to use Win8.

You're thinking of using the "uninstall" option from the start menu. That does NOT delete them, it just removes all references to them. They still reside on the hard disk and consume disk space. On my 120GB SSD on my laptop, every gig counts. Why leave them there when they are doing nothing at all? No banging your head involved, just boot up linux, rm -rf WinApps, problem solved.
Anyways, last I checked there were approximately zero AAA titles in the windows store. In fact, I've yet to see any windows app do anything that can't already be done better in a web browser. I'm not particularly impressed with solitaire collection, pinball, toy soldiers...and ooh mahjong, the game to end all games. The only one even remotely interesting is hydro thunder, in which case they ought to call it Retro instead of Metro.

I tried that, even used some command line stuff that break all file locks and ensure that the current user has full control over the files. It would let you delete them, even go through and say it deleted them, but when you look in the directory again, they are still there.

No. My current favorites are both indie titles, and are not AAA. Those being Natural-Selection 2, and League of Legends.
For Google Chrome, there are MORE and BETTER games than in the Windows store, and to a lesser extent, Firefox as well. Yep, web browsers have better games than the Windows store.
Every single game in the windows store is either old or just plain crap. I played Angry Birds on a CELL PHONE over a YEAR ago. These are all casual games, not games that you sit down for a marathon session to play. If the windows store is your idea of a good place to get games, then I dare you to go to your friends and say "Hey guys, let's all go to my house and play some reversi and then some tick tack toe!" and see what kind of reaction you get. Or how about one better, ask them to bring their PC's over for a windows 8 lan party, I'm sure they'll get right on that one.
The two games I listed above are legit desktop titles. Windows 8 games are not. In fact, as I've said numerous times, there isn't a single windows store app that does anything that isn't already done better in a browser.
So I'm doing the ol' nuclear option of a reformat for the windows 8.1 update, and I just updated OP to include some new info I found (Maybe common knowledge at this point after 18 months of futzing around with 8? Who knows, just something I discovered on my own a few minutes ago while tinkering with powershell.)
Really neat and really clean compared to the other way.

That's effectively what you get when you run the two commands I listed. For whatever reason, skydrive and photo viewer aren't possible to remove. In fact they don't even appear to reside in the WindowsApps folder...I'm not even sure where they reside.
ok but true reason why I use embedded edition is that I got free product key from MS DreamSpark
