[Q]Can you change app permissions? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to change the permissions of an app on a rooted device?
As I have noticed 1 or 2 game apps requesting access to "Phone calls - read phone state and identity"

no you cant, the reason apps request that is so the dialer shows up when playing a game, otherwise you would just get a missed call

Google Music Beta on tp2

Hello everyone, I'm a total noob here, and I have been searching my butt off trying to figure out how to try and get the music beta app working on the TP2. I am running froyo7. It seems that in my build. android market thinks that my phone is a Mid-Tex Cellular, when I am actually a sprint customer. Now before anyone say "search" I have I have been reading up how to edit my build.prop, watching youtube videos on how to as well, with a lot of google searching on the side. I am getting most of my info for different phones and don't know if these codes will work.
In my search the closest that I found was this quote from this thread...
"When using this ROM my device shows up as "Mid-Tex Cellular" on the Android Market.
Is there any way to change this?
..............................................
change the line in build.prop that is closest to this to this:
ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-google-us
it should have come as this out of the box
ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-sprint-us"
When I look in my build.prop I can't find anything close to this?
A little help for a worthless noob would be awesome.
Well first I would simply try adding that line to your build.prop. Just because it isn't there doesn't mean you can't add it .
As for Google Music, I am a member of the service but haven't messed with the app on my phone. Only listened to it on the webUI. I guess I need to try on my phone .
Edit - did you just try installing the apk directly? Seems like a much easier solution...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072655
Edit 2 - just installed that apk myself, works fine. For some odd reason I can only get it to show local music tho, I don't see any of my music that's "in the cloud"... hum.

hey,
check whether your google account sync in settings is syncing to google music. also for me, I had to restart my phone to get the app to realize that my google account had music beta.

I checked the sync settings, that was my first thought.
I'm leaning towards your second suggestion, since I haven't rebooted since installing it. Thanks for the suggestions.

i went into the application manager too in setting and cleared the data for the application too.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I searched like crazy for music beta, and never came up with that thread... I am going to try it as soon as my lazy phone decides it wants to work. LOL
This is what I am talking about with the Mid-Tex Cellular, I have gone to the web site, the market etc... and it wont allow it to install. So this is why I was thinking about changing the build.prop, but I don't exactly know how to... I have searched, but I don't know if I can just add some random code from my first post and have it work?

[Q] Call Log APP

Hi.
I have an issue and i am wondering if somebody else is concerned.
Here we go:
I own a Galaxy S 4G and usually i use Call Log instead of the Greeen "Phone" button at the menu at the bottom. Whats the use of opening that and then pressing "Log" to find whoever i called or who called me recently.
But now that i own galaxy s 2 i do not have an app / shortcut for call logs...
Help?
I tried to find it in my previous phone and copy it over... no use...
HELP!!
I dont believe there is one. It is only one extra step anyways. This is just something you will have to get use to.

you're just lazy, not programmers/devs. why not just hit the "Phone" apparently icon and then hit the phone symbol again. Like a double tap. It rakes u directly to the log.
wrong section. this is development only.
Sorry for posting in the wrong section.
And writing over 2000 projects for the past 15years does make me a hell of a programmer.
Nice apps but I don't think its really effective.

a alternative to "Frequently Called Remover"

I need a alternative to "Frequently Called Remover"
I'd love to get my mistress' number off there !
"Frequently Called Remover" from Android Market don't work on Epic Touch
I checked out the app Tiger. It monitors the Frequently Called list and prevents contacts from ever appearing on it without having to manually clear the list.
but I can't find the APK for this...

Is it permanent and auto... I need something like that, I rather not have frequent calls at all (TMI)
Idk if u can completely disable it but long pressing the contact u can remove em in 1 click i will check if they can be disabled and edit the post
Edit: i dont see any option to disable them entirely but deleteing is easy and it deletes the entire frequent call log for that contact and not just one call at a time so if u have (contact name) 15 calls to that contact it deletes all 15 calls and not just 1 call at a time

If you're going to be a douche and cheat on your woman and not have the balls to, you know - be a man and tell her what's up. Then at least put in some effort to cover your tracks instead of being lazy. Delete the frequently called list yourself, manually.
I'll take my infraction if that's what happens. This thread is stupid. Reported.

I think this is a valid topic, regardless of the OP's reasons for wanting to know. I like to show off my phone quite often to demonstrate some of the advantages of Android, and it would be nice not to have sensitive information like that so easily accessible to someone who's just playing around with my phone.

Do most people not know about the apps on the market that hide info like that? If you want to hide certain numbers when they call/text - get a black list app/privacy app or something like that. I like showing off what my phone can do also so I know what you mean. However, I don't allow complete strangers to handle my phone. I don't mind people seeing the name of someone I call often - I'm more concerned about the pictures they might see.
Guys, I use shady sms. It's got a built in call guard and a hidden contact list. Dev is cool too, he responds with help usually same day.
It blocks calls, sms, and hides them in the app. There's no app icon either. To open it, you go to phone, type your secret code, and hit send.

Damn, I was just joking.. Did I touch a spot, did your significant other cheat on you or etc... WOW!
I just want to app that monitors the Frequently Called list and prevents contacts from ever appearing on it without having to manually clear the list.
I know there other members looking for a similar solution to this problem....
Didn't mean to touch a nerve, hope you get your partner back, root their phone or something nice like that! Good luck!
Maybe edit the phone.apk or dialer.apk to get rid of the frequent list all together.
Or it may just be editing a value check for a call to save to the list. That way its always empty.
If you're going to be a jerk to your wife, then at least just get a separate phone. Or maybe you DO want to get caught. If you really cared you would not cheat, and if she's not what you want any more do the right thing and divorce her so she can do what she wants and maybe find someone who respects her without having to be concerned about someone who seems to not care about her(you).
That being said, I would check out Shady SMS, seems to help some ways. I figure the cost is worth it if you don't want to get caught.

I was really just joking .. But I found Tiger - No Frequently Called, looking for the APK so I can try it out on Epic (But I can't find anywhere)... If anybody find it, share please
Any new info on the subject
I think the app Super Private Conversation hides all communication from certain contacts and it is free on the market.
They changed the name to Private SMS & Call but it works wonders and is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superdroid.spc&hl=en
Alternatively, just use google voice for that purpose. All outgoing calls and text will be hidden within the google voice app.
Got to admit this was some good reading... If that man is capable of having more than one woman don't be mad at him... Kudos to you for at least not wanting to flaunt it and taking the time to try and do your pimping right.......hahahaha

My Spen Reset App

Hello. I wrote an app to deal with a problem with the SPen on my N7000 Samsung Note. Not sure if it will work on other Note models but would appreciate someone trying it out and telling me if it works on their device as well. Please see my original posting here. Thanks
Reset Spen Pro Now Available
A low priced version of this app is now available on the Play Market. It offers additional convenience and other features including scheduled background operation and suppression of success messages. If the free version works on your device, I hope you will consider the Pro version. Thanks!

I have found that the changes I make to my Google Play settings often take several hours to actually take effect. Please check back in a while. I'd appreciate hearing if/when the changes take effect as I have no visibility here except in the US. Sorry for the delay. And thanks again for your help.

I presume that you are speaking to the free version off the Play Store... The only reason I can think of is that SU is configured to globally grant permission under its default access setting and its show notifications is off by default in its settings (or maybe these are just on the Reset Spen app - but I doubt that).
I didnt inatall it from PS it came with my root, but however I am clever enought to ensure I like the settings, just after root...

Sorry, I meant did you get my app (Reset Spen) from the Play Store or from this site?
In my experience, SU does come with the rooting process.
So if you look at the SU settings, what is set for the following:
(a) Enable Super User
(b) Re-Authentication
(c) Default Access
(d) Show Notifications
On My Note N7000 with SuperSu v0.99, I have:
(a) checked/enabled
(b) checked/ask for permission again if app re-installed or upgraded
(c) prompt
(d) checked/show a toast
Then in the list of apps shown in superSU:
1. Do you see Reset Spen in the list?
2. If so, is the right side # green (mine is green) or another color
3. If so, click the its list item and tell me:
(a) the setting for access (mine is now grant)
(b) the setting for notifications (mine is global default - the answer to (d) above)
Thanks.
yes you app is the free from PS
well @the settings I know that should be perfect and of course they are set (the note is my 2nd device, 1st had superuser, so it may be my 1st time with sSU, but I have xPerience)

Thanks. I am sure you are actually more experienced than I am. I just wanted the details so I could help see what is going on.
So Reset Spen has been granted su access (green).
Are you getting a success popup after tapping the Reset Spen icon? You should always get one (success or a failure error message). If you get the message and it is success, then the app should have done its thing. There is no other user interface than the popup message. If you get success, the question remains - did it help your SPen situation? Has has for many others (but not all).
Thanks for your patience in trying to help me figure out the issue(s).
the thing is that it works fine, but somehow it got root before sSU even asked, and thats what confuses me...
and I get your success msg but nothing from sSU

Ah, ein Licht aufgeht! I am sorry but I have no idea why that would be if the global grant of access is not enabled in superSU. I am glad though that my app at least produces its success message. Does it help at all with your SPen's situation? Thanks

Funny, that is how I recall the phrase from my high school German classes some 40 years ago. But doubting myself, I used Google Translate and this is what it gave me. Sorry. I meant to show off, not insult. But it back-fired

That is odd/interesting. I actually had to write some Javascript code to execute in Firefox to manually exclude all of their listed devices from the compatibility list and then manually put the Note devices back. Can you give me 1-5 examples of devices they show as compatible that are NOT Note devices? Thanks.

[Q] Sprint Epic 4g

I was finally able to find something that would root my Epic 4g (not touch) . Its called vroot. Im looking for a couple of apps and have been searching for awhile, maybe there arent any but..... 1 is for screenshots. I was never able to do that. The 2nd is a texting app that will tell me when my text was read, but something the other person doesnt to download. I know its sounds weird to want to know if your text was read......but when you have a teenager who always uses the line.... I didnt see your text.....
anyway.....does anyone know of any apps that would help me?
also.....im new to this rooting. Is there anything else I need to do? I used a one click method.
Thank you for any help.
P.S. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. Again I'm new at this and I find it very confusing...lol

In Cyanogenmod v10.1 in the stock Messaging app there is a setting "Request a read report for each message you send". I've never used it and have no idea how it works but I thought I would mention it.

Oops.. I just noticed that this "request read report for each message you send" applies only to MMS messages. Not SMS.
So if you're still looking for this feature then you'll want to find an SMS/MMS app that will do this for MMS messages because it probably can't be done for SMS.
In order to ensure the text is sent as MMS you would have to send an attachment. MMS also require a solid data connection.
