Problem flashing .zip files- - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running clockwork, and I assume it's the cause behind my problem.
Anytime I try to flash any zip file, the install is aborted during the install process.
I'm trying to flash a new ROM, and this is killing me!
Any ideas?

Possibly amon ra. Try it, you can always go back.

Ok.
Two dumb questions-
1. Where do I get it (can't find it)
2. How to I remove clockwork and replace it with amon ra?

Rom manager app, it was easy but I just figured it out today. You may already have the app.

This wasn't as evil as some of the lmgtfy burns I've seen before on this forum. It just encourages me to search google more often rather than making a question. XDA search is horrible unless it's a rom or kernal.

[Q] RA Recovery

Can Someone Customize it to be able to go through folders to flash zips instead of having to drop everything on the root of my sd card it's looks really unorganized and I always forget to put the zip on the root of my sd after wiping everything then trying to flash something. I wouldn't mind donating for that and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person that wouldn't mind donating for that being put in there.
The first recovery agent i had, clockwork or whatever, it let me go through folders. I'm not sure why the more recent version doesn't let you.

Yeah and also can anyone enable loop devices in it because I think it is one of the reasons why the dualboot doesnt work.

You would have to go to Amon_RA and talk to him. i believe i heard he was busy for a while. Maybe check with him on updating RA from 1.8.0 to something like 1.8.1. We defiantly need it!

Clockworkmod is for the noobies once first after rooting and using rom manager....unless you have RA, you wont wipe data nor dalvik or even battery stats correctly with clockwork. Clockwork needs a major overhaul. Clockwork and RA are two totally different recoveris. RA's feature is for there to not be so much clutter. so its scans /sdcard just for roms.

right clockwork has a ton of issues. i agree that it needs to be updated....or that someone needs to come along and try to combine both RA recovery style and clockworks style into one recovery....except do it right! (not halfassing it) but still......clockwork is always good for searching those folders. RA is good for wiping and stability and outrageously good for the nand backups!
First, amon recovery has its own thread and this request has been asked many times before.
Second, amon has the ability to mount the sdcard to your pc while in recovery. Honestly if you are doing any kind of flashing on your phone (besides nands) you really should be near a pc the whole time.
Last, if you read the amon thread, amon himself said that writing recoveries is a hobby and not his profession. Make your request be known in his thread and be patient although this request has been made many times like I said even by me. But when you realize how valuable the usb ms toggle option is (along with apps like astro, root explorer, etc) you will eventually get into the habit of triple checking your steps prior to flashing anything.
I agree with bmx añd lovëtheevo

For the folder issues, I just use ASTRO file manager to move the file I want to flash to the root of my SD. It's not hard, and can be done in a few seconds.
I see that a lot of the "experienced" android users prefer Amon_Ra recovery over Clockwork. I have to say that I personally have used Clockwork with no problems what so ever. Even a chicken**** noob like myself can use ROM manager w/o a problem. I never had a problems backing up my current ROM, restoring it or downloading and installing a totally new ROM.

Make sure you have at least one amonra nand backup squirelled away though. Clockwork doesn't back up the wimax image or rsa keys. Amonra does.

[Q] Can't upgrade clockwork mod from 2.5

Okay, so I was trying to upgrade to the latest nightly for my mother, since she loves gingerbread now. So here is my issue, I know that I need clockwork mod 3.0 or higher to get the nightlies to work, I have gotten #14 to install with the old recovery she has on there now. But when I try to update the recovery it will either not upgrade or revert back to 2.5 upon reboot. For example:
If I try using fastboot to install, I get an error. I don't remember exact error, but its a long the lines of it can't install.
If I try using the PB31IMG.zip method, but it just detects the zip and wont install or anything.
If I install the recovery via the recovery, it will work for the one time it loads, then upon reboot it reverts to old one.
I tried installing the newest nightly with the old recovery, but it will just load and then soft boot and repeat forever till I pull battery.
I rooted the phone with the unrevokr root and recovery method, so I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

Before you flash a new recovery with ROM Manager go into ROM manager settings and check the box to erase the old recovery before flashing the new one.
Then scroll to the bottom of the main ROM Manager menu and select all clockworkmod recoveries. Flash 3.0.0.8 since it has fixes for 3.0.0.5 issues.

Still not working, just does checking the zip and then goes back to hboot. I am going to try formating the internal memory, and put a copy on there and see if that does anything. Would having S-ON have anything to do with my problem?
Well I fixed it, was that I had S-On still enabled. I guess I'm so used to my nexus that I forgot that I needed that off to do that.

sorry im new to htc evo

well I just traded my epic for evo and im woundering how to root this phone, im confused because I have hardware version 0004 and the video I saw he had 0003, and then there two different recoveries, so idk witch is more popular with roms, Any help is apperciated
Go to unrevoked.com and use unrevoked to root your device. It is simple to do and arguably, the most trusted method. If you do use the unrevoked method, it will put the Clockworkmod recovery on your device. Although clockworkmod is darn good, I suggest that you flash amon RA v2.3 as your recovery. Instructions are very easy and installation takes less than 10 seconds to complete. Just post your questions and someone will assist you as quickly as possible.

Lots of good information in the thread below, the hardware version shouldn't be an issue anymore and it seems to be split as far which recovery to use. AmonRA has been more reliable in the past and has more options while clockwork will allow you to flash ROMs through ROM Manager.

We told you it was easy...LOL....Anyway, for a sense based rom, I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 and for an AOSP ron, I recommend Salvage-Mod 1.2.1. Be sure to make a nandroid backup of your current setup first to fall back on in case you don't like the roms you decide to try. After making your nandroid backup, wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself and then flash whatever rom you decide to try.

When I used to use the ClockworkMod recovery, I made it a habit of wiping at least twice before flashing, but with the latest amon RA recovery, I simply wipe once. Remember these unofficial rules:
Changing roms: Wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself.
Updating a rom with a nightly build: wipe cache & dalvik.
Changing kernels: wipe cache, dalvik & battery stats.
Anything else: wipe cache & dalvik

If you're using a sense based rom, I recommend a Netarchy kernel. I do not overclock, but many people do.You can achieve overclocking with setCPU. An. AOSP rom like Salvage-Mod has a built in setting for it.

[Q] cant flash alt recovery via rommanager

Sorry in advance if this is a duplicate. I could not find the an answer on my own. ( go ahead call me a noob)
I have tried cm7 savaged zen and deck roms and at this moment it seems that I cannot flash my alternate recovery thru rommanager. Rommanager will show clockwork 3.0.0.5 but when i reboot to recovery it will still be Amon ra. rommanager is still working fine on sense roms. has anyone else experienced this issue. PLEASE Help.
Also I have noticed That the Rom pickings are becoming slimmer on Rom Manager, anyone have any insight into what is going on there. and is there something i should have known before paying for Premium. (just curious)

Newb question

I have a feeling it will be fine but I just want to ask and be sure amon ra is compatible with Rom manager right?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
No, rom manager will not work with amon_ra recovery. You have to have cwm recovery for it to work.
You don't need ROM Manager anyhow, except to fix permissions and even that you can do with Amon Ra and with terminal.
I just wanna be able to flash easier is their an equivalent for ra?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
OK, well ROM Manager may make flashing easier, but there is no end to the posts on here from people who had problems using it.
It's really not that hard to go to Recovery and do proper wipes so your flashes give you less problems
