Dumb question/ Wii and Evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you can use a Wiimote on the Evo via the bluetooth, but why couldnt I use my Evo as a Wiimote on the Wii?

is your wii rooted?

Lol. It won't work dude.

I know it wont work, just wondering why.
seems like its just missing an IR port?

And buttons. And port for nunchuck. And all the other hardware that the wii controller has.

What do you want the EVO to do exactly? First you would need an app to create some kind of controller UI on the phone. Then you would need to make the EVO establish a connection with the Wii over bluetooth, essentially emulating the Wii protocol (may be some generic standard) so that the Wii will recognize the EVO as a controller.
Next, that's not just an "IR port" on the Wiimote. It is a motion sensing IR camera designed to pick up IR sources (the leds on the wii sensor bar) in order to determine relative position and location.
It probably wouldn't be hard to turn the EVO into a simple bluetooth gamepad that could be used with the Wii (or anything), but as far duplicating a Wiimote goes that will be pretty hard.
Besides, a Wiimote is much better to hold and game with than your phone. I can see you launching your phone into your TV already...

[Q] Onlive Universal Controller and CM9

I just updated my phone in the hopes of using my onlive controller with the onlive app. Unfortunately it pairs and connects fine, but none of the controls are what they are supposed to be, any time you hit a button it just freaks out. If anyone has any idea why this may be, let me know. Thanks all.

Turns out I just needed a reboot. Works fine now.
I'd like to add that you can fully navigate android with this awesome controller. This seriously rocks.
Just curious, why would you want to use a 2 handed gamepad to control your pocket sized phone?

WiiMotes and PS3 controllers working on stock Samsung ICS ROMS, midi devices too?

Not sure if everyone is aware of this yet? Reported at Droidgamers yesterday. I have a Note now and can confirm that WiiMotes work on a completely stock ICS ROM. I can also confirm that PS3 controllers also work via USB OTG now on the Note (previously they only worked via the Sixaxis app). I see another user has confirmed that midi devices also work with the Note via USB OTG. Details here.
Any S2 owners here able to confirm re: PS3 controller and/or midi devices?
Just tried the Logitech F310, no go (presume same reason as the Xbox 360 wired controller - high drain device without it's own power supply.
Just tried a PS3 pad, all genuine cables etc. Nothing on my phone. Just the prompt saying a USB connector being attached. The pad is looking for my PS3 when I turn it on.

Was the PS3 powered-off when it was connected? Mine was, plug it in and the LEDs on it start flashing (there is no notification in the phone to say it recognises the controller), press the PS3 button then and it was all go - it didn't turn on the PS3 when I did this.

The pads leds dont come on when its all wired up. With my PS3 on standby, hitting PS turns it on and connects to that. With the PS3 unplugged, push PS and all 4 leds flash until it gives up.

Interesting, I guess for whatever reason the S2 isn't working with them yet then. May come in a future update since the Note is working with them.
Keep forgetting Wiimotes dont work on the S II even with apps...about time they fixed that. Not that Im upgrading to ICS anyways

Stop relying on those bull**** official features for things like this. Go get USB/BT Joystick Center and plug in whatever you want.
Wiimote support is nice though

I'm not relying on official anything, been using PS3 controllers etc with mine for ages via Root, but it's still nice to see this stuff appearing officially too.
Is there any special configuracion dor a WiiMote, or i just simply turn my bluetooth on and search it??

Yeah I forgot which forum I was in, and that the Wiimote isn't supported on the S II even with third party software up until now. It's just been pissing me off how much attention game controllers have gotten on Android with ICS, when you can do it and 100 times better with any version

You'll need an app like Wiimote Controller from the Play Store.
yes you can connect a wiimote with that app but i know that this does not work with stock versions of ICS

S3 Stock Rom + Logitech F310 (Wired Controller) Works nice!

Hey, well since I didnt see a topic about wired controllers yet, I thought I would share my findings yesterday.
I just got in my USB OTG Adapter so when I got home, I tried my Logitech F310 controller on my Stock T-Mobile rom. Works great! (X-Input mode) I was actually navigating the entire screen with my controller, using Circle button to exit out etc. Was very plug and play! Best part, Emulators worked 100% for the key bindings to it! So wanted to pass this info on to anyone else who was wondering about "Wired" option. Since I know we can do Wii controllers, PS3 ones and so. Cept.. I dont WANT to resync or change batteries out all the time.
Now I had seen this on the market too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy&hl=en
Its about 5$ but not sure why I would use this if built in all works fine?
I did notice tho the USB port gets a lil warm after awhile of using it. (Since its powering yoru USB device it seems)
Now I did try the gamepad in minecraft. Some buttons work for opening menu, or "digging" however cant seem to make the movement work. So I may try to hit up Notch to allow keybinding options.
In my emulators tho, You set the D-Pad up for that, however a bonus.. analog stick works too for movement without setting anything up! Was playing Arcus Odyssey on Sega last night with the anlog stick heh.
Now I wonder.. if I use a mini usb "Y" adapter so I can have it plugged into the power source and my controller at the same time. That should work right? (This way I can keep it in my Dock, charging it while playing with the controller)
Sixaxis is better and cheaper.

But youd have to resync to PS3 or Tablet each time. Which is what I find annoying. Then till I get the 50$ Universal BT Onlive Controller (Which seems sweet and can dedicate it to android use) The wired option is nice. =)

what is every one using to control there favorite games

So im curious, since the controller dosent really work smoothly with most side loaded games from the plays store. what is everyone using to play them (ex minecraft)? Are you using a app to smooth out the bumps or have you used a ps3 or wii controller and one of the many apps for that? i havent really found a good way yet what about you all?:fingers-crossed:

I am mostly removing apps which are not working good with controller but would like to know how to get them going.
but there are quite a few application which are working too good with the controller.
Well considering Ouya goes retail at the end of this month they really need to start working on the controller issues. And clean out a lot of those games, half of them don't work and the ones that do really really need work on their controller. Also a really nice feature would be if I could hold down the Ouya button to have the option to turn off the console like Xbox and Ps3, I hate getting up to turn it off.

you can connect the ps3 via blue tooth and use a ps3 controller app like (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...kaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb21wYXRpYmlsaXR5Y2hlY2tlciJd)
and that should work havn't tried it yet though
You would only need that app if the game doesn't natively support it.
If the developer has done a good job, then the PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers should work just fine.
For example, Bomb Squad natively "just works" with the standard Ouya controller, wireless and wired Xbox 360 controllers, and PS3 as well.
This weekend we played 6 player Bomb Squad (you can have up to EIGHT players on one TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!) with 2 Ouya controllers via BlueTooth, 2 off-brand USB wired Xbox 360 controllers, and 2 official MS wireless Xbox 360 controllers (connected via the Xbox 360 USB wireless adapter).
BTW, the adapter I am using for Xbox 360 wireless controllers is http://www.ebay.com/itm/370777929957?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
was like $11 and works great, also works on my PC.

Nope, you just plug in the ps3 controller via usb and push the reset button on the back and/or the ps3 button. Bluetooth will get messed up and refuse to turn on. Shut down the Ouya by holding down the power button, unplug the controller, start it back up and all your Ouya and PS3 controllers will connect just fine (if it doesn't work right away, go into the menu to pair controllers and just hold down the ps3 button instead of the ouya button and it will connect). I use 2 Ouya controllers and 2 PS3 controllers.

Yes and no. Ds4 works perfectly outside of shark space (the gaming mode) with zero issues.
With sharkspace enabled the ds4 looses connection and fails to reconnect untill sharkspace has been disabled/quit.
We can load sixaxis controller app from inside sharkspace, so in the future with root access (we currently don't have root) it should be usable in its gaming mode. But at present your going to have to play without one of the black sharks main selling points if you want to use your dual shock for.
This is also the case for all my 3rd party controllers, one user has claimed success with an ipega controller, but I've not got one to test, note planning on getting one.
The official controllers for the blackshark 2 are probably going to be the best option for full compatability unfortunately
Thanks bro!! I appreciate the time and dedication in the response, greetings. Maxx.-
Which controller have you guys tried? I tried my wireless controller using otg but seems like it doesn't recognize otg connection ?

I've tried a DS3, ds4, c.t.r.l and a nvidia shield bt controller, none worked inside sharkspace all worked outside.
I also manually changed the master addresses of the controllers aswell via a pc to match the blackshark2 with no success, tried various gamepad mappers also with no success.
As above there's a post on here somewhere someone recogned the i.p.e.g.a controllers work but personally I am not willing to buy one to test, maybe if someone with a legitimate blackshark2 controller would mind sharing the master bt address the controllers use we could use a pc to change our controllers (ds4 etc) to match, and maybe the blackshark would recognise our Bluetooth controllers as the official ones in sharkspace and stay connected.
That's my only other suggestion/idea untill we have Root access, and even then if they connect and they still probably won't, I dunno if there would be input issues caused as a result of the hardware not matching the software
As far as your otg controller is concerned does it connect and function as intended outside of sharkspace?
It doesn't work at all using otg. It says charging device ?
Just tried again, so my controller has two config dinput mode and xinput mode. Turns out one of them works and the other is not recognised. I think the xinput mode is what works and when I switch to it the controller works outside and inside shark space as well. Although, the button are a bit wrong but i remap them in game and i can play fortnite without any issues. I will still buy the black shark gamepad 2.0 though.
Your absolutely correct buddy thank you.
Dinput controllers such as the ds4 are not working inside sharkspace.
The nintendo switch joycons use xinput and work with the blackshark inside sharkspace. I did notice some input lag on the joycons but to be honest I wasnt playing the best game to test a controller. The switch pro controller also uses xinput so will assume that works aswell, but again not got one to test.
I have the Black Shark Gamepad 2.0, which is unfortunately a bit of a disappointment. It has some very strange aspects to it: Y button cannot be mapped in Shark Space mode, it acts as some toggle between touch screen emulation and mouse cursor mode, which I don't understand why someone would use that. It's useless to me as someone who wants it solely for emulators.
When used outside of Shark Space mode, the DPad and the lettered face buttons both register as the same thing A/B/X/Y buttons. Also, the right touchpad does not act like a stick, instead it acts like a mouse.
On top if this, there are no start, select or L3/R3 buttons. This amounts to playing in Shark Space mode leaving you 5 buttons short of a full controller and outside Shark Space to playing 8 buttons short.
I could get the master BT address for you but I am not exactly sure how to do it. Do I just need to pair it to a PC and do... what?
Has anyone tried using the Xbox 360 controllers
